The ARCTIKO ULUF P90MV is an ultra-low temperature unit designed for the storage of biomedical products at a constant temperature in clinical, pharmaceutical, research, and laboratory fields. It is not intended for use by young children or infirm persons unless adequately supervised.

The unit is designed to operate within a temperature range of -86°C to -25°C, at an ambient temperature of +16°C to 32°C and a humidity between 55-80% (65% recommended). For safe and optimal performance, it should be placed indoors in a well-ventilated room at elevations below 2000m. The unit should only be operated by instructed personnel.

Voltage variation should not be more than +/- 10 percent of the nominated voltage supply. The unit is designed for use with a voltage between 110V-230V, with a current between 3-6 Ampere depending on the voltage.

When operating the ARCTIKO ULUF P90MV, you are exposed to several potential dangers. Follow these safety precautions:

Read and understand the operating manual.

Use freezer gloves at all times when loading or unloading the unit. The low temperature can burn unprotected skin on direct contact.

Keep the unit and adjacent areas clean, dry, and uncluttered.

If any malfunctions occur or are suspected, immediately call a qualified service engineer.

Do not insert screwdrivers or other pointed objects between guards or moving parts of the unit.

Be aware of the crushing hazard for hands while operating the door and door lock mechanism.

To prevent frostbite in the cooling chamber, always use Arctiko Cryo gloves due to the low temperature freezing conditions.

Do not insert metal objects such as pins or wires into any vent, gap, or outlet on the unit, as this may cause electric shock or injury.

Only qualified engineers or service personnel should install the unit.

When removing the power plug from the outlet, pull on the plug, not the cord, to prevent electric shock or fire.

Moving the Unit:

Always use suitable lifting equipment to load, unload, and move the unit to prevent personal injury or material damage.

Disconnect the unit from the power outlet before moving it. Ensure the power cord is not damaged.

Be careful not to tip the unit over during transport. Follow the tipping instructions located on the unit itself.

Packaging:

Do not expose the package to rain.

Always keep the package upright; do not place it in a horizontal position.

Do not expose the package to bumps and shocks, as the contents are fragile.

Unpacking:

1. Inspect the packaging carefully for any shipping damage. If damage is observed, report it to the shipping company and your local Arctiko distributor.

2. Remove all packaging material, plastic, and straps. All packing materials are recyclable. Keep plastic bags away from children as they pose a suffocation risk.

If the unit needs to be switched off and stored away for a long time, take the following precautions:

Clean the unit both inside and outside.

Ventilate the unit and make sure it is completely dry.

Disconnect from the power outlet.

Leave the door slightly open to prevent rot and mold.

If the unit is stored in an unsupervised area, ensure that children do not have access and that the doors cannot be closed completely.

Unpack the unit: Remove all packaging materials, plastic bags, and straps.

Storing the key: The key for the door is packed with the user manual inside the unit. Keep the key in a safe place.

Read the Quick Start Guide: The Quick Start Guide is provided with the unit.

Ventilate the unit: Open the door for at least 20 minutes to ventilate the unit before first use to clear any odors from manufacturing.

Clean the unit: Clean the inside and outside with a soft cloth/sponge using a solution of water and light detergent. After cleaning, wipe the inside with a dry rag.

Remote alarm contact: The terminals for the remote alarm contact are on the backside of the unit. The contact design has a maximum load of 2A and works with the buzzer alarm. When an alarm is accepted on the display, the remote alarm relay returns to normal. The remote alarm can be set as normally open (NO) or normally closed (NC).

Warning Flammable material: Do not damage the refrigerant circuit. To reduce flammability hazards, the installation of this unit must be carried out by a suitably qualified person.

To achieve optimal operating results, place the unit in a location that meets the following conditions:

Firm and leveled floor: Reduces the risk of excessive noise and vibration.

Away from any heat sources: Avoid placing the unit near heat-dissipating devices like burners, stoves, radiators, or ovens.

Away from direct sunlight: Placing the unit in direct sunlight may cause reduced performance and shorten its life expectancy.

Dry area: Avoid placing the unit near damp areas such as water faucets and sinks.

Clean area: Placing the unit in a clean environment reduces the risk of function failure. Avoid installing it near chemicals that might have outgassing properties to prevent corrosion.

Well ventilated: There must be sufficient space around the unit for air ventilation. Place the unit with at least 10 cm of free space on each side and 15 cm behind the unit.

Main Power plug: The main power plug must be easily accessible while the unit is turned on.

Do not place any objects on top of the unit.

Do not use the unit outdoors, as exposure to rain can result in current leakage or electric shock.

Never install the unit in a flammable or volatile location, as this may cause an explosion or fire.

To ensure a safe and reliable installation, follow these electrical connection guidelines:

Data regarding voltage and absorbed power/current is given on the rating plate.

The unit must be grounded to protect the user from electrical shock in the event of an insulation damage. An electrical power plug with a ground connection must be used.

The installation must be secured with a minimum 10A fuse.

If you have more than one unit, each must be connected to an individual fuse group.

Only use OEM detachable main supply cords.

Voltage variation cannot differ more than ±10% of the nominal voltage supply.

Always follow local regulations. Contact local authorities if in doubt.

Only qualified/authorized engineers or service personnel should install the unit.

Do not use the power cord if it is damaged.

Never use a telephone line, lightning rod, water pipes (especially non-conductors like PVC), or gas lines as ground protection.

During the initial startup and for continuous usage, follow these procedures:

1. Plug the power socket into a dedicated outlet. Check the rating plate for the correct voltage requirement. When started, let the unit cool for 24 hours before placing any products inside.

2. Turn the battery ON from the backside of the unit.

3. When the unit initially starts up, the buzzer alarm may sound. This is normal. You can accept the alarm on the display.

4. The unit has been set from the factory to operate at -80°C.

5. Once the unit is thoroughly inspected and has reached its set temperature, products can be loaded. Products should be pre-frozen when inserted into the unit; otherwise, the cooling performance can be affected.

The unit comes with two standard temperature probes. One monitors air temperature and controls compressor operation, while the other monitors the temperature of stored elements. To install additional external probes to monitor temperature in different places, use the pre-made access ports on the back of the unit.

1. Remove the black cover and take out the insulation within the porthole.

2. Make a small hole in the black cover, just big enough for the probe to fit.

3. Insert the probe into the cabinet.

4. Seal the access port with the back cover.

5. Always seal the holes with putty on both sides of the hole.

Important: Never install probes through the door, as this will deteriorate the door gasket’s functionality, increase ice build-up, and affect the temperature inside the unit.

Door Warning: If the door is not closed correctly or is held open for a period (factory setting is 40 seconds), the visual and audible “Door open alarm” will activate. It stops when the door is closed correctly.

Temperature Alarms:

High Temperature Alarm: Activates if the temperature rises above the “High temp” setpoint for longer than the “Alarm delay” setting. Placing warm products near the temperature probe can also trigger it.

Low Temperature Alarm: Activates if the temperature falls below the “Low temp. alarm” limit for longer than the “Alarm delay”. Placing products colder than the setpoint near the probe can also trigger it.

Power Failure: In case of power loss, the controller goes into power failure mode, and the screen goes black. The backup battery maintains the controller’s logging, visual, audible, and remote alarm features for a minimum of 72 hours. The cooling system will not be operational during a power failure.

Failure Events: If a failure occurs, an icon appears on the screen. To accept a failure, press the center of the screen. You can then jump to the EVENT LIST to check the details of the failure. If a failure is unresolved, the icon FAIL UNRESOLVED will be shown on the screen.

How to Turn On the Device:

1. Press and hold on the screen to turn on the device.

2. If password protection is enabled, the password insert screen will appear. Type the password and press ENTER.

3. The main screen will then appear, showing the unit is operational.

How to Turn Off the Device (Standby Mode):

1. From the main screen, press the MENU key (☰) to access the USER MENU.

2. Press and hold the STANDBY icon to turn off the device and put it in standby mode.

3. If password protection is enabled, type the password and press ENTER.

1. From the main screen, press the SETPOINT area on the display to enter the setpoint adjustment screen.

2. Press the UP key (+) to increase the temperature or the DOWN key (-) to decrease the temperature.

3. Once the desired temperature is set, press the ENTER key to save the new value and exit.

You can also press keys on the screen to recall values:

STANDARD: Recall standard value.

MIN: Recall minimum value.

MAX: Recall maximum value.

ACTUAL: Recall running value.

1. Press the MENU key (☰) to access the user menu.

2. Press the LIMITS icon to open the limits adjustment screen.

3. Use the UP/DW keys (+/-) to increase or decrease the value selected with the SELECT key. You can adjust LOW TEMP, HIGH TEMP, DELAY (alarm delay), and DOOR (door open alarm time).

CAUTION: When changing the high-temperature setting, if the “high temp” is set lower than the unit setpoint, the alarm will activate. When changing the low-temperature setting, if the “low temp” is set higher than the unit setpoint, the alarm will activate.

STANDARD: This key sets the default value.

ABSOLUTE: Sets in rotation the type of limit setting.

SELECT: Enables rotation of the value to be set.

ACTUAL: Retrieves the value in progress/preset.

Press ENTER to save the changes or ESCAPE to return without saving.

1. From the USER MENU, select SETTINGS, then press the BACKUP icon to transfer thermoregulation data to a USB pen.

2. The screen will show a USB pen insertion request frame with a 20-second time-out. Insert the USB drive.

3. Once the USB drive is recognized, a setting page will appear. Use the UP/DW keys (+/-) to select the number of months of data to transfer.

4. Press ENTER to start the data download.

5. A progress bar will appear. Wait for the download to complete. You can press ESCAPE to cancel.

ATTENTION: Do not remove the USB drive while transferring data. This may take 10+ hours. While data is transferring, no new data is logged. Wait for the checkmark icon to appear before removing the drive.

6. Once the download is complete, a confirmation sign (checkmark) will appear, and the screen will return to the settings menu.

Perform the following maintenance tasks at least twice a year:

Lubricate hinges and gaskets. Wipe off all excess lubricant.

Make sure the unit is level. If necessary, adjust the castors/feet.

Inspect all seals and gaskets to ensure they are still soft and flexible.

WARNING: Before any inspection or maintenance, disconnect the power cord from the power outlet to prevent electrical shock or injury. Do not breathe dust and aerosols near the unit during maintenance, as they might be harmful.

Never disassemble, repair, or modify the unit yourself. Do not touch electrical parts with wet hands. Do not use a flame to check for gas leaks.

Perform the following cleaning instructions at least once a month:

Always keep the unit free of ice. Use a soft cloth or brush to remove loose ice. Never use sharp tools. Keeping the unit free of ice will extend its lifespan.

Clean the outside and inside of the unit with a dry, soft cloth or brush, or a soft cloth with a solution of water and mild detergent. For thorough cleaning or disinfection, ethanol is recommended.

Clean all gaskets using a damp cloth and mild detergent if necessary. Wipe dry afterwards. Do not pour water directly into the unit.

Dust off the inside of the compressor compartment using only a dry brush or a vacuum cleaner. The refrigeration system parts are sealed and do not require lubrication.

Do not use abrasive or chlorine-containing products. Never splash water directly onto the unit.

It is recommended to defrost the unit twice a year. This unit does not have an automatic defrost function. Follow these instructions:

1. If the unit is loaded with products, move them to another unit to maintain their temperature.

2. Turn off the unit on the display by pressing the STANDBY button.

3. Unplug the power cord from the power outlet.

4. Open the door of the unit.

5. Place cloths or towels in the bottom of the unit to collect defrost water.

6. Leave the unit open for a minimum of 24 hours to allow the ice to melt.

7. When defrosting is complete, thoroughly clean the inside of the unit. Wipe off all remaining water and leave the door open until the cabinet is completely dry.

8. Connect the power cord to the power outlet and switch the unit on from the display.

9. Reload the unit after it has reached the set temperature (pull down).
