How do I interpret the model number for the AOTORO EK51-D2M4 series?

The model number provides details about the product’s configuration. Using EK51-D50M4-R as an example:

EK Photoelectric switch
51 Serial number (side length)
D Detecting method: D=Diffuse reflective, R=Retro reflective, T=Through-beam
50 Detecting distance: 50=50cm, 2=2m, 6=6m, 20=20m
M Control output: M=Free power relay output, C=DC NPN output, B=DC PNP output
4 Light ON/Dark ON switch selectable
R Light source: R=Red LED (customization only), Blank=Infrared LED

What are the Light ON and Dark ON operation modes for the AOTORO EK51-D2M4?

The operation mode determines when the output is active.

Light ON Mode:

In this mode, the output (TR output) turns ON when the receiver receives light. The operation indicator (LED) will also turn ON.

– Received light: Operation indicator ON, TR output ON.

– Interrupted light: Operation indicator OFF, TR output OFF.

Dark ON Mode:

In this mode, the output (TR output) turns ON when the receiver’s light is interrupted or blocked. The operation indicator (LED) will also turn ON.

– Received light: Operation indicator OFF, TR output OFF.

– Interrupted light: Operation indicator ON, TR output ON.

How do I wire the AOTORO EK51-D2M4 photoelectric switch?

The AOTORO EK51-D2M4 uses a “Free power” circuit with relay contact output. The wiring is as follows:

Relay Contact Output (1c):

– Gray wire: N.C. (Normally Closed)

– Black wire: N.O. (Normally Open)

– White wire: COMO (Common)

Power Supply (24-240V AC/DC):

– Blue wire: Power

– Brown wire: Power

For Through-beam models, the Emitter circuit is wired separately:

Emitter Circuit Power Supply (24-240V AC/DC):

– Blue wire: Power

– Brown wire: Power

How do I install and adjust the sensitivity for the AOTORO EK51-D2M4 (Diffuse reflective type)?

Please supply power to the sensor before beginning adjustment.

1. The sensitivity of the sensor must be adjusted in accordance with the existence of the reflective material in the background, even if set to maximum sensitivity.

2. Set the target in the detecting area. Turn the sensitivity adjuster from the minimum (MIN) position until the point where the indicator just turns on. Note this position.

3. Take the target out of the sensing area. Turn the adjuster until the point where the indicator turns on. If the indicator does not turn on, the maximum (MAX) position is the second point.

4. Set the adjuster to the center position between the two points noted in steps 2 and 3 for optimal performance.

Note: If the reflectance of the target is higher than non-glossy white paper, it might cause a malfunction when the target is near the sensor. To prevent this, ensure there is enough space between the target and the sensor, or install the target surface at an angle of 30 to 45 degrees relative to the optical axis.

If you use more than 2 photoelectric sensors in parallel, the space between them should be more than 30cm.

What are the installation and adjustment procedures for the Retroreflective type AOTORO EK51 series sensor?

1. Supply power to the photoelectric sensor after setting the sensor and the mirror (e.g., TD-08) to face each other.

2. Adjust the mirror or the sensor right and left, and up and down, until you find the position where the operation indicator turns on. Set the sensor in this position.

3. Fix both units tightly after checking that the unit reliably detects the target.

For sensitivity adjustment, please see the procedure for the diffuse reflective type.

What are the installation and adjustment procedures for the Through-Beam type AOTORO EK51 series sensor?

1. After installing the emitter and the receiver facing each other, supply power to the photoelectric sensor.

2. Adjust the receiver and the emitter right and left, and up and down. Set the receiver in the center of the position range where the indicator turns on.

3. Fix both units tightly after checking that they reliably detect the target.

What are the primary safety precautions when using the AOTORO EK51-D2M4?

To ensure safety, please follow these precautions:

1. Do not use the sensor in an explosive or flammable gas environment.

2. Never disassemble, repair, or tamper with the product.

3. Keep the supply voltage within the specified area.

4. Use the load under the specified area.

Under which environmental conditions should the AOTORO EK51-D2M4 not be used?

Do not use the product under the following conditions:

(1) In a place with direct sunlight.

(2) In a place where humidity is high and condensation may occur.

(3) In a place where corrosive gas exists.

(4) In a place where vibration or shock is directly transmitted to the product.

What are the guidelines for connecting and mounting the AOTORO EK51-D2M4?

(1) Before applying power, be sure that the supply voltage is less than the maximum rated supply voltage.

(2) If the sensor cable must be laid in a tube or duct with a high-tension or power line, it can cause induction, possibly resulting in malfunction or damage. In principle, the cable should be laid separately or shielded.

(3) For extending wires, use a wire with a cross section greater than 0.3mm² and keep the length less than 100m.

(4) Do not pull the wire strongly.

(5) Do not apply excessive force (e.g., hitting with a hammer) to the sensors, as it may damage their water resistance.

What are the power supply considerations for the AOTORO EK51-D2M4?

Power Supply Type: When using a commercially available switching regulator, be sure to ground the FG (Frame Ground) terminals.

Power Supply Reset Time: The photoelectric switch will begin sensing no later than 100ms after the power is turned on. If the load and the photoelectric switch are connected to different power supplies, the photoelectric switch must always be turned on first.

Turning Off the Power Supply: When turning off the power, an output pulse may be generated. It is recommended to turn off the power supply of the load or load line first.
