Before using your ALPINE CDE-111R, please read the Owner’s Manual thoroughly.

Please observe the following safety warnings:

• Do not operate any function that takes your attention away from safely driving your vehicle. Always stop in a safe location before performing functions that require prolonged attention.

• Keep the volume at a level where you can still hear outside noises while driving. Excessive volume can obscure emergency vehicle sirens or road warning signals.

• Do not disassemble or alter the unit, as this may result in an accident, fire, or electric shock.

• Use the unit only in cars with a 12-volt negative ground.

• Keep small objects such as batteries out of the reach of children. Swallowing them can cause serious injury.

• Use the correct ampere rating when replacing fuses.

• Do not block vents or radiator panels, as this can cause heat to build up and may result in fire.

• Do not place hands, fingers, or foreign objects in insertion slots or gaps.

• If a problem appears, halt use immediately and return it to an authorized Alpine dealer for repair.

For product cleaning, use a soft, dry cloth. For more severe stains, dampen the cloth with water only. Other substances may dissolve the paint or damage the plastic.

Ensure the temperature inside the vehicle is between +60°C (+140°F) and -10°C (+14°F) before turning the unit on.

If you have problems, do not attempt to repair the unit yourself. Return it to your Alpine dealer for servicing.

Follow these precautions for disc insertion:

• The player accepts only one disc at a time. Do not attempt to load more than one.

• Insert the disc with the label side facing up. If inserted incorrectly, “ERROR” will be displayed.

• Do not use cracked, warped, or damaged discs, as this could damage the playback mechanism.

• Do not grip or pull out a disc while it is being reloaded by the automatic mechanism.

• Do not attempt to insert a disc when the unit’s power is off.

• For new discs, feel around the center hole and outside edge. If you feel small bumps or irregularities, rub the edges with a ballpoint pen to remove them, as they could inhibit proper loading.

• Be sure to use round-shaped discs only. Never use any special shape discs, as this may cause damage to the mechanism.

For correct handling of CDs:

• Hold the disc by its edges to avoid leaving fingerprints on the surface.

• Do not affix tape, paper, or gummed labels to the disc. Do not write on the disc.

To clean a CD:

• Wipe the playing surface with a clean, soft cloth from the center of the disc to the outer edge.

• If the surface is heavily soiled, dampen a clean, soft cloth in a solution of mild neutral detergent before cleaning.

General precautions for Compact Discs:

• Do not touch the surface.

• Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight.

• Do not affix stickers or labels.

• Clean the disc when it is dusty.

• Do not use commercially available disc accessories like stabilizers or transparent sheets, as they can cause operational problems.

• Do not leave the disc in the car or the unit for a long time. Heat and humidity may damage the CD.

The ALPINE CDE-111R supports the following media and file types:

• Use only compact discs with the official CD, CD-TEXT, or Compact Disc Digital Audio logos.

• You can play CD-Rs (CD-Recordables) and CD-RWs (CD-ReWritables).

• You can play CD-Rs/CD-RWs containing MP3 formatted audio files.

• Supported file extensions are “.mp3”.

The unit supports discs formatted with ISO9660 Level 1 or Level 2. It does not support copy-protected CDs that do not conform to the audio CD industry standard.

To turn the power on:

Press the SOURCE/ dial. The unit can also be turned on by pressing any other button except for the eject and release buttons.

To turn the power off:

Press and hold the SOURCE/ dial for at least 2 seconds.

Detaching the Front Panel:

1. Turn off the unit’s power.

2. Press the release button at the lower left side until the front panel pops out.

3. Grasp the left side of the front panel and pull it out. Place it in the supplied carrying case for protection.

Attaching the Front Panel:

1. Insert the right side of the front panel into the main unit, aligning the groove with the projections.

2. Push the left side of the front panel until it locks firmly into the main unit.

Press the SOURCE/ dial to change the source. The sequence is as follows:

TUNER → DISC → USB AUDIO → iPod/AUX+ → BT AUDIO → TUNER

Note: Some sources are only available when the corresponding device is connected or feature is enabled in the SETUP menu.

To adjust the volume, turn the Rotary encoder dial until the desired sound level is obtained. The volume level ranges from 0 to 35.

Listening to the Radio:

1. Press SOURCE/ to select TUNER mode.

2. Press BAND/TA repeatedly to select the desired radio band (FM1, FM2, FM3, MW, LW).

3. Press TUNE/A.ME to select the tuning mode:

• DX SEEK (Distance mode): Automatically tunes both strong and weak stations.

• SEEK (Local mode): Automatically tunes only strong stations.

• OFF (Manual mode): Allows you to tune the frequency manually in steps.

4. Press the left or right arrow buttons to tune to the desired station. Holding the button down will change the frequency continuously.

Presetting Stations Manually:

1. While receiving the station you want to store, press and hold one of the preset buttons (1 through 6) for at least 2 seconds.

2. The display will show the band, preset number, and station frequency to confirm it has been memorized.

You can store a total of 30 stations (6 for each band: FM1, FM2, FM3, MW, and LW).

Presetting Stations Automatically:

1. Press BAND/TA to select the desired radio band.

2. Press and hold TUNE/A.ME for at least 2 seconds. The tuner will automatically seek and store the 6 strongest stations in the selected band into preset buttons 1 to 6.

Tuning to Preset Stations:

Select the desired band, then press the preset button (1 through 6) for the station you wish to hear.

The RDS allows you to receive information like traffic updates and station names, and to automatically re-tune to a stronger signal for the same program.

Setting RDS Reception Mode:

1. Press FUNC./SETUP so that the F indicator lights up.

2. Press 1◄/AF to activate the RDS mode.

3. Use the arrow buttons to tune to a desired RDS station.

4. Press 1◄/AF again to deactivate the RDS mode.

Receiving Traffic Information:

1. Press and hold BAND/TA for at least 2 seconds so the “TA” indicator lights up.

2. When a traffic information broadcast begins, the unit will automatically receive it. During CD playback, the CD will be muted.

3. To deactivate the Traffic Information mode, press and hold BAND/TA for at least 2 seconds.

Displaying Radio Text:

While receiving an FM station in radio mode, press VIEW to select the Radio Text display. The display will cycle through Programme Service Name (PS) and RADIO TEXT.

1. Insert a disc with the label side facing up. The disc will be pulled into the unit automatically and playback will begin.

2. If a disc is already inserted, press SOURCE/ to switch to DISC mode.

3. To pause playback, press the ►/II/ENT button. Press it again to resume.

4. Press the left or right arrow buttons to select the desired track (file).

5. For MP3 discs, press 1◄/AF or 2► to select the desired folder.

6. To eject the disc, press the eject button.

Repeat Play:

Press the 4 button to cycle through repeat modes. The sequence is:

• Repeat Track: The current song is played back repeatedly.

• Repeat Folder (MP3 mode only): All files in the current folder are played back repeatedly.

• Repeat Off: Normal playback resumes.

M.I.X. (Random Play):

Press the 5 button to cycle through random play modes. The sequence is:

• M.I.X. Folder (MP3 mode only): Files in the current folder are played back in random order.

• M.I.X. Disc: All tracks/files on the disc are played back in random order.

• M.I.X. Off: Normal playback resumes.

Searching for CD Text:

1. During playback of a disc with CD Text, press Q/ESC. The search mode will activate.

2. Turn the Rotary encoder to select the desired track by its title, then press ►/II/ENT to play it.

Folder/File Name Search (MP3):

1. During MP3 playback, press Q/ESC to activate the search mode.

2. Turn the Rotary encoder to select either “Folder Name Search” or “File Name Search” mode, and press ►/II/ENT.

3. Turn the Rotary encoder to select the desired folder or file.

4. To play the first file in a selected folder, press and hold ►/II/ENT for at least 2 seconds. To play a selected file, press ►/II/ENT.

Quick Search:

1. During CD/MP3 playback, press and hold Q/ESC for at least 2 seconds to activate Quick Search mode.

2. Turn the Rotary encoder to select a desired track (file). The selected track will play back immediately.

You can adjust various sound settings for a customized audio experience.

Main Audio Adjustments:

1. Press the Rotary encoder (AUDIO) repeatedly to choose the desired mode (SUBWOOFER, BASS LEVEL, TRE LEVEL, BALANCE, FADER, DEFEAT).

2. Turn the Rotary encoder to adjust the setting for the selected mode.

Advanced Bass/Treble/HPF Settings:

1. Press /SOUND to select the desired mode (BASS → TREBLE → HPF).

2. Turn the Rotary encoder or press other buttons to change the settings:

• BASS: Press BAND/TA to change the Center Frequency (60/80/100/200 Hz). Press SOURCE/ to change the Bandwidth (1-4). Turn the Rotary encoder to change the Bass Level (-7 to +7).

• TREBLE: Press BAND/TA to change the Center Frequency (10.0/12.5/15.0/17.5 kHz). Turn the Rotary encoder to change the Treble Level (-7 to +7).

• HPF (High Pass Filter): Turn the Rotary encoder to select OFF/60/80/100 Hz.

Loudness:

Press and hold the Rotary encoder (LOUD) for at least 2 seconds to activate or deactivate the loudness mode, which boosts low and high frequencies at low volumes.

Follow these steps to customize the unit’s settings:

1. Press and hold FUNC./SETUP for at least 2 seconds to activate the SETUP mode.

2. Turn the Rotary encoder to select the desired SETUP menu item (e.g., BT IN, PLAY MODE, SUBWOOFER, etc.).

3. Press ►/II/ENT to enter the selected menu item.

4. Turn the Rotary encoder to change the setting.

5. Press and hold FUNC./SETUP for at least 2 seconds to return to normal mode.

Some available settings include:

• BT IN: Set to BT ADAPTER if an optional KCE-400BT Bluetooth interface is connected.

• SUBWOOFER: Turn the subwoofer output ON or OFF.

• SUBW SYS: Select subwoofer system type 1 or 2 for different level responses.

• TEXT SCR: Set text scrolling to AUTO or MANU (manual).

• DEMO: Turn the demonstration mode ON or OFF.

• POWER IC: Set to POW OFF when using external amplifiers to improve sound quality by stopping the internal amplifier’s power supply.

• AUX+ SETUP: Set to ON if connecting an external device via the Full Speed connector with a KCE-237B cable.

If there is no function or display, check the following:

• The vehicle’s ignition may be off. The unit will not operate if connected correctly and the ignition is off.

• Check for improper power lead (Red) and battery lead (Yellow) connections.

• Check if the fuse is blown and replace it with one of the proper value if necessary.

• An internal micro-computer malfunction may have occurred. Press the RESET switch with a ballpoint pen or other pointed object. The RESET button is located behind the detachable front panel.

If you are unable to receive stations, check these possible causes:

• There may be no antenna or an open connection in the cable. Ensure the antenna is properly connected and replace it if necessary.

If you are unable to tune stations in seek mode:

• You may be in a weak signal area. Ensure the tuner is in DX mode.

• The antenna may not be properly grounded. Check antenna connections and ensure it is properly grounded at its mounting location.

• The antenna may not be the proper length or may be broken. Ensure the antenna is fully extended; replace it if it’s broken.

Here are some common error indications and their solutions:

• ERROR (CD Player): Indicates a mechanism error. Press the eject button to eject the CD. If the CD does not eject or the error remains, consult your dealer. If the disc cannot be ejected, press the RESET switch and try again.

• PROTECT (MP3): A copy-protected WMA file was played. You can only play back non-copy-protected files.

• UNSUPORTED (MP3): A sampling rate or bit rate not supported by the unit was used. Use a supported sampling rate/bit rate.

• NO DISC: No CD is inserted, or the unit cannot read the inserted disc. Insert a CD. If a disc is inserted but the error persists, try ejecting and re-inserting. If that fails, consult your dealer.

• DC ERROR: Indicates a malfunction, possibly due to a speaker cable shorting on the car chassis. Route the cable correctly and set “POWER IC” to “POW ON”. If the problem persists, consult your dealer.
