What tools are needed to install the ALFRED DB2S?
For standard lock installation of the ALFRED DB2S, you will need a #2 Philips screwdriver.
For door prep on a new door without existing lock preparation, the following optional tools are required:
1. 2-1/8″ (54mm) hole saw
2. 1″ (26mm) boring bit
3. 7/64″ (2.5mm) drill bit
4. 3/8″ (10mm) drill bit
5. Chisel and Hammer
How should I prepare the ALFRED DB2S lock for installation?
First, unpack the ALFRED DB2S lock. Then, perform the following steps:
A. Inside escutcheon: Confirm your door handing direction. The handing switch needs to be set in the direction the latch bolt slides when looking from the inside of your door. For example, if your latch bolt extends out on the left side of your door when you are standing inside, the Handing switch should be set to the “L” position.
B. Latch Bolt: Confirm the backset measurement. The bolt is shipped with a 2-3/8″ backset. If required, turn the bolt case and pull to extend it to the 2-3/4″ backset position. Note: The bolt must be in the retracted (Unlocked) position when you are changing the backset.
How do I start the installation of the ALFRED DB2S?
Begin by measuring your door’s prep. If you have a standard 2-1/8″ (54mm) hole, proceed to Step 1 of the installation guide. If you have a 1-1/2″ (38mm) hole, refer to the separate guide included, “Instructions for doors with 1-1/2″ (38mm) holes”. If you have a new door with no hole, use the provided template to prep your door with a 2-1/8″ hole saw.
How do I install the latch bolt and strike plate for the ALFRED DB2S?
Step 1: Install Latch Bolt in door
Make sure the arrow at the tail end of the latch bolt is pointing upwards. The bolt must be in the retracted (Unlocked) position when installing the lockset. You may need to use the Drive-In Collar depending on your door prep.
Step 2: Install strike on the door frame
Install the strike plate and reinforcement plate on the door frame using the provided KA4*40 and KA4*20 screws. Make sure to allow for the bolt to be centered in the strike.
How do I check the bolt operation and prepare for the optional Door Position Sensor on the ALFRED DB2S?
Step 3: Check bolt operation
Check to make sure the bolt operates smoothly before moving forward. Use a screwdriver to extend and retract the bolt. Make sure the bolt fully extends. Return the latch bolt to the unlocked position before moving forward.
Step 4 (OPTIONAL): Prepare for Door Position Sensor
If you are not installing the Door Position Sensor, skip to step #7. To install it, use the provided template to align with your existing door prep holes. Note the designated area for the sensor and make a mark on your door for placement in the next step. The sensor should be closely aligned with the edge of your door, but not so far over that it will hit the door frame.
How do I install the optional Door Position Sensor and magnet for the ALFRED DB2S?
Step 5a/5b (OPTIONAL): Install the sensor
Once the location is decided from step 4, peel off the red sticker on the back of the sensor and attach it directly to the door. To secure it with screws, push the tab on the side to open the cover and mount the sensor onto the door with two ST3*8 screws.
Step 6 (OPTIONAL): Install the magnet
Attach the magnet onto the door frame for the sensor, using either the sticker or the two screw holes with ST3*16 screws. The sensor and magnet must not be more than 10mm (3/8″) apart.
How do I install the outside panel of the ALFRED DB2S?
Step 7: Install the outside panel
Hold the outside panel with the keypad flush to your door. Align the tailpiece and cable with the door hole prep. Pass the cable through the door UNDER the latch bolt.
Important Notes:
• The bolt must be in the retracted (unlocked) position.
• Note the horizontal orientation of the key tailpiece.
• The cable must go through the door hole under the bolt.
• The extra 3rd post is optional for additional security. It can be screwed into the back of the front panel assembly. An additional hole must be drilled in your door if you choose to use it.
How do I install the mounting plate and connect the cables for the ALFRED DB2S?
Step 8: Position the inside mounting plate
Position the inside mounting plate and gasket by first routing the cables and connectors through the mounting plate’s cable holes. Ensure the front panel cable is routed below the latch bolt. If the optional Door Position cable is used, route it between the door and mounting plate, exiting through the top cable hole.
Step 9: Secure both assemblies
Secure the outside and inside assemblies using two BM4 Bolts (and one #8-32 screw if using the optional 3rd Post). Ensure the outside panel is vertically aligned. Tighten securely with a #2 Philips screwdriver. Do not over-tighten. Use the appropriate length bolt for your door’s thickness. If using the door position sensor, its wire should sit in the cut-out slot on the side of the gasket.
Step 10: Prepare the inside panel
Take the inside panel and make sure the tailpiece is in the horizontal position.
Step 11: Attach cable assembly
Attach the cable assembly to the inside panel PCB. Line up the notches on top of the cable connector to the slots on the PCB connector. Press the connector in firmly with your thumbs until it is completely seated.
How do I install and secure the inside panel of the ALFRED DB2S?
Step 12: Install inside panel
Install the inside panel onto the inside mounting plate. The tailpiece must be in a horizontal position when you insert the inside panel, which means the thumb turn should be vertical. Be careful not to pinch cables between the inside panel and mounting plate.
Step 13: Secure inside panel
Secure the panel using four KM4*6 screws through the inside panel onto the mounting plate with a #2 Philips screwdriver. Before installing batteries, test the operation using the thumb turn to make sure the latch bolt extends smoothly. If it does not extend, check that the tailpiece was inserted correctly.
How do I complete the final steps of the ALFRED DB2S installation?
Step 14: Set the handing switch
The handing switch needs to be put in the direction the latch bolt is sliding when looking at the inside of your door. For example, if your latch bolt extends out on the left side of your door when standing inside looking at the door, the Handing switch should be set to the “L” position.
Step 15: Insert battery
Insert the Lithium-Ion Battery. The Front Keypad will light up to confirm proper installation. It is recommended that you fully charge your battery before installing it in your lock using the provided USB-C cable.
Step 16 (OPTIONAL): Install Wireless Module
Install an Alfred Wireless Module (e.g., Z-wave, sold separately) to connect the lock to 3rd Party Smart Hubs. Follow the syncing instructions from your smart hub guide.
Step 17: Install battery cover
Finally, install the battery cover plate. Secure it with the pre-installed BM4*8 screw.

After installing the Alfred DB2S Touch Screen Smart Deadbolt, you should download the Alfred Home App from either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Use the app to set up your Master PIN Code for the lock, or refer to the Programming Instructions booklet provided.
