Studies show that using a mobile phone while driving is a real risk. Therefore, drivers are requested to refrain from using their ALCATEL 2053X when the vehicle is not parked, even when using a hands-free kit.

• Do not let children use the phone and its accessories without supervision.

• Handle your phone with care and keep it in a clean, dust-free place.

• The recommended operating temperature range is 0°C to +40°C.

• Do not open, dismantle, or attempt to repair your phone yourself.

• Do not drop, throw, or bend the phone.

• Do not use the phone if the screen is damaged, cracked, or broken.

• Do not paint it.

• Use only recommended batteries, chargers, and accessories.

• Remember to make back-up copies of important information.

Some people may suffer epileptic seizures or blackouts when exposed to flashing lights or playing video games. If you have a history of seizures or blackouts, consult a doctor before using these features. Parents should monitor their children’s use of such features.

Discontinue use and consult a doctor if you experience convulsion, eye or muscle twitching, loss of awareness, involuntary movements, or disorientation.

To limit these symptoms, take the following precautions:

• Do not play or use a flashing-lights feature if you are tired or need sleep.

• Take a minimum 15-minute break hourly.

• Play in a room with all lights on.

• Play at the farthest distance possible from the screen.

• If your hands, wrists, or arms become tired or sore, stop and rest for several hours before playing again.

To prevent possible hearing damage, do not listen at high volume levels for long periods. Exercise caution when holding your device near your ear while the loudspeaker is in use.

Following air regulation, the battery of your product is not charged. Please charge it first.

For a device with a removable battery, observe the following precautions:

• Do not attempt to open the battery (due to the risk of toxic fumes and burns).

• Do not puncture, disassemble, or cause a short circuit in the battery.

• Do not burn or dispose of a used battery in household rubbish or store it at temperatures above 60°C (140°F).

Batteries must be disposed of in accordance with locally applicable environmental regulations. Only use the battery for its intended purpose. Never use damaged batteries or those not recommended.

Mains powered chargers for the ALCATEL 2053X will operate within the temperature range of 0°C to +40°C. The chargers are designed to meet the standard for safety of information technology and office equipment use. Due to different electrical specifications, a charger purchased in one jurisdiction may not work in another. They should be used for this purpose only.

Your ALCATEL 2053X is identified by an IMEI (phone serial number) shown on the packaging label and in the product’s memory. It is recommended that you note the number the first time you use your telephone by entering *#06# and keep it in a safe place. It may be requested by the police or your operator if your telephone is stolen. This number allows your mobile telephone to be blocked, preventing a third person from using it, even with a different SIM card.

• **Left soft key:** Access main menu. Unlock keypad.

• **Right soft key:** Access contacts.

• **Call/Send key:** Access call log (from idle screen). Send a call.

• **End call/Power key:** Power on/off the handset (long press). End call. Return to idle screen.

• **Headset connected:** A headset is plugged in.

• **Alarm clock programmed:** An alarm is set.

• **Missed calls:** You have one or more missed calls.

• **Meeting mode:** Your phone vibrates, but neither rings nor beeps.

• **Roaming:** Connected to a network outside your home network.

• **Unread SMS:** You have new text messages.

• **Message full:** Your message inbox is full.

• **Call divert:** Calls are being forwarded.

• **Music activated:** Music is playing.

• **GPRS connection status:** Shows GPRS connectivity (model 2053D).

1. **Remove the back cover:** Locate the slot on the bottom corner of the phone and lift the cover off.

2. **Install the battery:** Align the battery contacts with the terminals in the phone and push it into place.

3. **Insert the SIM card:** Your ALCATEL 2053X supports a mini SIM card. Place the SIM card with the chip facing downwards and slide it into its housing. To remove it, press and slide it out.

4. **Insert the SD card (optional):** Slide the microSD card into its slot.

5. **Replace the back cover:** Align the cover and press it down until it clicks into place.

• **Making an emergency call:** If your phone is covered by the network, dial the emergency number and press the Call/Send key. This works even without a SIM card or PIN code.

• **Receiving a call:** When you receive a call, press the Call/Send key to answer. To hang up, press the End call key.

• **Calling Voicemail:** To access your voicemail, hold down the ‘1’ key.

The camera function enables you to take pictures. Access the Camera from the main menu. Press the OK key to take a picture. You can then set the pictures as wallpaper or as an incoming call image for a contact.

The Call Filter allows you to set up a blacklist (to block callers) and a whitelist (to only allow specific callers).

**Blacklist:**

You can add numbers to the blacklist from:

1. **Blacklist Menu:** Go to Blacklist > Options > New. Enter a name and number, or select a contact.

2. **Call Logs:** Select a contact from All calls, then Options > Add to blacklist.

3. **Messages:** Select a message from the Inbox, then Options > Add to blacklist.

**Whitelist:**

You can add numbers to the whitelist from:

1. **Whitelist Menu:** Go to Whitelist > Options > New. Enter a name and number, or select a contact.

2. **Call Logs:** Select a contact from All calls, then Options > Add to whitelist.

3. **Messages:** Select a message from the Inbox, then Options > Add to whitelist.

**Settings:**

• **Enable blacklist:** Automatically blocks all callers on the blacklist.

• **Enable whitelist:** Only allows calls from numbers on the whitelist. If the whitelist is empty, the phone will not allow any callers.

• **Disable call filter:** Allows all callers.

• **Sound Recorder:** Records audio files in WAV and AMR format. Recordings are stored in “My music”.

• **Convert:** Supports weight and length conversions.

• **Alarm:** A built-in alarm clock with snooze feature. You can set up to five alarms.

• **Calendar:** A monthly-view calendar to check dates.

• **Calculator:** Use the navigation keys to select operations (+, -, ×, ÷, =).

• **Bluetooth:** Exchange data like videos, images, and audio with other Bluetooth devices.

• **Torch:** Turn the torch on and off as needed.

• **Voice alarm:** Create a voice file and set it as an alarm.

• **World clock:** Displays the time based on your location and allows you to add other cities.

• **Fake call:** Allows you to simulate an incoming call to escape social situations.

• **STK (SIM Tool Kit):** Provides services from your SIM card. The menu is added automatically if supported by your network and SIM.

From the main menu, select “Message” to create a text message. You can type a message and send it to a recipient from your SIM card directory. While writing, you can select “Options” to access messaging options, such as inserting a pre-defined message from “Templates”. For dual SIM models, you can choose to send from either SIM1 or SIM2.

Note that an SMS message over a certain number of characters will be charged as several SMS. Special characters (like accents) can also increase the size of the SMS.

• **Gallery:** View images stored on the phone or SD card. You can multi-mark, set as wallpaper, set as power on/off display, assign to a contact, or send via Bluetooth.

• **Audio:** Play audio files. Press the OK key to play/pause. Use the left/right navigation keys for the previous/next track and up/down keys to adjust the volume.

• **Video:** Play video files. Press the OK key to play/pause. Use the left/right navigation keys for the previous/next video and up/down keys to adjust the volume.

• **DV:** Make video files. Press the OK key to start/pause recording.

• **FM Radio:** Use the phone as a radio. You must plug in a headset, which acts as the antenna. Press the OK key to play/pause and the up/down keys to tune the volume. You can listen to the radio while using other applications.

• **Consulting Contacts:** Access your contacts by pressing the right soft key from the idle screen or by selecting the Contacts icon from the menu.

• **Adding a Contact:** From the Contacts menu, select “New contact” and choose to save it to the “Phone” or “SIM” memory.

From the main menu, select the Settings icon. Here you can customize your phone’s Profiles, Phone settings, Call settings, Network, Regulatory & safety, and Security. You can also Restore factory settings. To restore factory settings, you will need to enter the default password “1234” to confirm; note that this will erase end-user data.

The input mode on your ALCATEL 2053X allows you to type text by choosing a letter or a sequence of characters associated with a key. Press the key several times until the desired letter is highlighted. When you release the key, the highlighted character is inserted into the text.

• Make sure you have not barred outgoing calls.

• Make sure that your phone is not in flight mode.

• Make sure your phone is switched on and connected to a network.

• Try again later if the network is busy.

This icon indicates that you have saved too many short messages on your SIM card. You need to delete some messages to clear the notification.

You will need to contact your network operator to obtain the PUK (Personal Unblocking Key) code.

• Make sure there is sufficient phone memory for your download.

• Select the microSD card as the location to store downloaded files if you have one inserted.

• Check your subscription status with your operator.

• Ensure you follow the complete charge time (minimum 3 hours).

• After a partial charge, the battery level indicator may not be exact. Wait for at least 20 minutes after removing the charger to get an accurate reading.

• Adjust the screen brightness as appropriate.
