What are the key safety instructions for using the ADAM AUDIO T7V?
Please adhere to the following safety instructions when using your ADAM AUDIO T7V:
• To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not open the loudspeaker. There are no user-serviceable parts inside.
• This product and any extension cords must be terminated with an earth ground three-conductor AC mains power cord. All three components must always be used to prevent shock hazard.
• Never replace any fuse with a value or type other than those specified. Never bypass any fuse.
• Ensure the specified voltage matches your power supply voltage. If not, do not connect the loudspeakers to a power source.
• Always switch off your entire system before connecting or disconnecting any cables, or when cleaning components.
• To completely disconnect from AC mains, unplug the power supply from the power socket. The monitor should be installed near the mains connection for easy access.
• Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched.
• Unplug the apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods.
• Do not expose this product to rain or moisture, and do not place objects filled with liquids on the speaker.
• Use only with stands, tripods, or brackets specified by the manufacturer. Be cautious when moving the loudspeakers on a trolley to avoid injuries.
• The speakers must be positioned on a solid surface or a stand.
• Always use fully checked cables, as defective cables can be a source of noise, hum, or crackling.
• Never use flammable or combustible chemicals for cleaning.
• Do not expose this product to extremely high or low temperatures or operate it in an explosive atmosphere.
• High SPLs may damage your hearing. Do not get close to the loudspeakers when using them at high volumes.
• Keep magnetically sensitive items at least 0.5 m away from the speaker, as the diaphragms emit a magnetic field.
• Ensure free airflow behind the speakers for sufficient cooling by keeping a distance of at least 100 mm [4″] to the wall.
• Do not place naked flame sources, such as lit candles, on the speaker.
• Do not use this apparatus near water.
• Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, hot air vents, stoves, or other equipment that produces heat.
• Do not disconnect the earth wire in an earthed plug.
What is the optimal placement for my ADAM AUDIO T7V monitors?
The ADAM AUDIO T7V monitors are a nearfield design and should be placed on speaker stands, a console bridge, or a desktop in relatively close proximity to your mix position, ideally about three feet away. This ensures the direct sound from the monitors is louder than sound reflecting off your room’s walls, floor, and ceiling.
For the best sound, follow these guidelines:
• **Symmetry:** If your control room is not symmetrical, set up your monitors at the symmetrical end of the room for the most balanced frequency response.
• **Room Length:** Point your monitors down the length of the room so the rear wall is as far away from your mix position as possible. This minimizes comb filtering and preserves imaging.
• **Boundaries:** To avoid unwanted boosts and dips in bass response, do not place a monitor an equal distance from two or more boundaries (e.g., front and side walls). For the flattest bass response, each monitor should be at least 16 inches from the nearest wall.
• **Tweeter Height:** The monitors’ tweeters should be at ear level when you are in your mix position. If this is not possible, angle the monitors up or down so the tweeters are aimed at your ears.
• **Toe-In:** Toe-in the monitors so they form an equilateral triangle with your ears. This setup provides a rock-solid phantom center image, pinpoint localization of panned tracks, excellent high-frequency detail, clear midrange, and an even bass response.
What are the functions of the rear-panel features on the ADAM AUDIO T7V?
[1] **BASS-REFLEX PORT:** Works with the woofer to produce flat and extended bass response.
[2] **HF SWITCH:** A 3-way switch to boost or cut the monitor’s high-frequency response by 2 dB. The “0” setting provides a flat response.
[3] **LF SWITCH:** A 3-way switch to boost or cut the monitor’s low-frequency response by 2 dB. The “0” setting provides a flat response.
[4] **LEVEL KNOB:** Turn clockwise to increase volume or counterclockwise to decrease it. The “0 dB” setting is optimal for most situations.
[5] **BAL. IN CONNECTOR:** An XLR connector for inputting balanced audio with a nominal +4 dBu level.
[6] **UNBAL. IN CONNECTOR:** An RCA connector for inputting unbalanced audio with a nominal -10 dBV level.
[7] **+4 dBu/-10 dBV SWITCH:** Set to “+4 dBu” when using the XLR connector. Set to “-10 dBV” when using the RCA connector.
[8] **POWER SWITCH:** Turns the monitor on or off. A green LED indicates when power is on.
[9] **POWER CONNECTOR:** A standard three-prong IEC AC power receptacle for the detachable power cord.
How do I connect and set the levels on my ADAM AUDIO T7V monitors?
Follow these steps to begin using your ADAM AUDIO T7V monitors:
1. Before making any connections, ensure the power switch on each monitor is off and the Level control knob is set to its “0 dB” setting. Also, turn off any equipment you will connect to the monitors and turn its output levels all the way down.
2. For balanced +4 dBu audio, use the monitors’ respective XLR connectors and set their +4 dBu/-10 dBV switches to the +4 dBu setting.
3. For unbalanced -10 dBV audio, use the monitors’ respective RCA connectors and set their +4 dBu/-10 dBV switches to the -10 dBV setting.
4. After all connections are made, turn on the equipment feeding the monitors.
5. Flip the power switch for each ADAM AUDIO T7V monitor to the ON position.
6. Set the output level controls on the equipment feeding your monitors to their nominal level or your usual setting.
7. While playing audio, fine-tune the Level control knob on each monitor to achieve your desired listening volume. In a symmetrical room, the settings for both knobs should be the same for balanced imaging.
8. At the end of each session, turn off your T Series monitors before powering down any connected equipment.
Does my ADAM AUDIO T7V monitor require a “burn-in” period?
Yes, all pro audio monitors require some burn-in time to reach their optimal performance. Please play complex program material through your ADAM AUDIO T7V monitors for at least eight hours before using them on a critical project.
How and when should I use the HF and LF switches on my ADAM AUDIO T7V?
The “LF” (Low Frequency) and “HF” (High Frequency) switches on the rear panel of your ADAM AUDIO T7V each allow you to boost or cut their respective frequencies by 2 dB, or select a flat response (“0”). These switches help you adapt the monitor’s sound to your room’s acoustics.
**Using the LF Switch:**
• If your room’s layout requires you to place the monitors closer than 16 inches from a wall, the bass frequencies will be naturally boosted. To compensate, try setting the LF switch to the “-2 dB” position to restore a flat spectral balance.
• If you wish to listen with an exaggerated bass response, set the LF switch to the “+2 dB” position.
**Using the HF Switch:**
• If your room is heavily treated with absorptive materials (like foam or fiberglass panels), high frequencies may be attenuated, resulting in a dull sound. In this case, try setting the HF switch to its “+2 dB” position to restore high-frequency detail.
• In an especially live, bright-sounding room, you may prefer setting the HF switch to its “-2 dB” setting to compensate for the room’s acoustics.
What should I do if my ADAM AUDIO T7V speakers are producing no signal or only a distorted signal?
a] Consider where the problem is. If all of your speakers are exhibiting the same issue, the problem is more likely with the audio source. If only a single loudspeaker is affected, the problem is more likely with that specific speaker.
b] Check your wiring and cables. If possible, swap them for others that you know are working. If you only have one pair of cables, see if the fault changes speakers when you swap the cables over. If so, the problem is likely in the cable.
c] Check your signal source by connecting the speakers as directly as possible to it. The fault could lie with another component, like a mixer or processor, that is usually connected in the signal path before the speakers.
What should I do if my ADAM AUDIO T7V speakers are producing unwanted noise like buzzing, humming, or crackling?
a] Check the cables by swapping them or replacing them where possible to see if the fault is affected.
b] Check for sources of electromagnetic interference close to the speakers that could be causing problems. This includes mobile phones, wireless routers, power supplies, electrical motors, or heaters.
How should I clean and maintain my ADAM AUDIO T7V monitors?
• Please switch off your monitors before cleaning them.
• Be aware that the speaker drivers generate a significant electromagnetic field. Keep magnetically sensitive items at least half a meter (20 inches) away.
• Ensure that no liquids enter the cabinet. Wet cloths and cleaning fluids should not be sprayed near the loudspeakers.
• Do not use flammable or acidic chemicals for cleaning.
• If at all possible, do not touch the loudspeaker cones. They may be dusted lightly using a very soft brush.
• We recommend a lint-free, damp (not wet) cloth for general cleaning.
What should I consider if I need to ship my ADAM AUDIO T7V monitors?
We recommend that you keep your loudspeaker packaging if at all possible. In case your monitors ever need to be sent for repair, it is extremely difficult to protect them from shipping damage if the original packaging is not available.
