Always turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or when cooking flambeing foods.
How often should ventilating fans be cleaned?
Ventilating fans should be cleaned frequently.
What should you always use when cooking?
Always use cookware appropriate for the size of the surface element.
What should you do to smother flames in the event of a range top grease fire?
Smother flames with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the burner. Be careful to prevent burns. If the flames do not go out immediately, evacuate and call the fire department.
What should you never do with a flaming pan?
Never pick up a flaming pan, as you may be burned.
What should you not use to put out a grease fire?
Do not use water, including wet dishcloths or towels, as this could cause a violent steam explosion.
When should you use a fire extinguisher?
Use an extinguisher only if:
- You own a Class ABC extinguisher and you know how to operate it.
- The fire is small and contained in the area where it started.
- The fire department has been called.
- You can fight the fire with your back to an exit.
What should you not use the hood for?
Do not use the hood to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and vapors. This unit is for general ventilating use only.
What should you keep off the power unit?
Keep drywall spray, construction dust, etc. off the power unit to avoid motor bearing damage and noisy and/or unbalanced impeller.
What happens if the hood motor overheats?
The hood motor has a thermal overload which will automatically shut off the motor if it becomes overheated. The motor will restart when it cools down. If the motor continues to shut off and restart, have the hood serviced.
What is the minimum hood distance above a cooktop?
The minimum hood distance above cooktop must not be less than 20” for an electric range, and 24” for a gas range. A maximum of 30” above cooktop is highly recommended for best capture of cooking impurities.
Where should you not exhaust air?
To reduce the risk of fire and to properly exhaust air, be sure to duct air outside – do not exhaust air into spaces within walls or ceilings or into attics, crawl spaces, or garages.
What should you do due to the high exhausting capacity of the hood?
Because of the high exhausting capacity of this hood, you should make sure enough air is entering the house to replace exhausted air by opening a window close to or in the kitchen.
What should you use with this hood?
Use with approved cord-connection kit only.
What is the first step of installation?
Plan where and how the ductwork will be installed.
What type of ductwork should be installed?
Install proper-sized ductwork, elbow(s) and roof or wall cap for the type of blower you are installing. If using 6’’ (150 mm) round ducts, use a transition. Use 2’’ (50 mm) duct tape to seal duct joints.
What is the recommended minimum distance for the hood from an electric range?
We recommend installing the hood at a minimum of 20” (508 mm) from an electric range and at 24” (610 mm) from a gas range.
What is the recommended maximum distance for the hood from a cooktop?
For optimal performance, the hood should not be installed more than 30” (762 mm) from cooktop.
What should you do if the bottom of the cupboard is recessed?
If the bottom of the cupboard is recessed, attach wood strips (not included), as shown beside, in order to properly install the range hood under the cabinet. The wood strips must be as thick as the recess.
What should you do before installing, servicing, or cleaning the unit?
When performing installation, servicing or cleaning the unit, it is recommended to wear safety glasses and gloves.
What should you do before removing the filters from the hood?
Remove both filters from the hood and disassemble the adaptor/damper from the hood before performing any other step.
What should you do after removing the bottom panel?
Punch out the electrical and discharge knock-outs for the chosen opening (vertical on top or horizontal at the back of the hood).
How do you install the adapter/damper for a horizontal discharge?
For a horizontal discharge installation, fold down the foldable flange © of the adapter/damper. This flange must be at 90° from the remaining flanges. Use the lower screw holes on each side of the adapter/damper to assemble it to the back of the hood. For a horizontal discharge when the hood is a replacement, leave the foldable flange © of the adapter/damper as is. Use the upper screw holes on each side of the adapter/damper to assemble it to the back of the hood.
How do you install the adapter/damper for a vertical discharge?
For a vertical discharge installation only, leave the foldable flange © of the adapter/damper as is. This flange must be located towards the front of the hood.
How should you run the power cable?
Run power cable to installation location.
How do you position the hood before securing it?
Place the hood at its location. Using a pen, mark the position of the screws (smaller part of the embossed keyholes).
How do you secure the hood to the cabinet?
Remove the hood and install four 1/2” double thread screws at sides locations (A), leaving a 1/8” gap. Place the wire clamp, insert the cable in the hood and tighten the wire clamp to secure the cable. Place the hood under the cabinet and slide it in position. Make sure the adapter/damper assembly enters the ducting and the damper opens freely. Secure the hood by tightening the screws completely. Install the last 1/2 double thread screw (B) in the remaining embossed hole.
What should you do if a round duct must be used?
For the best ventilation performance, if a round duct must be used, the duct diameter must be 6” or more. Use a 3¼” x 10” to 6” round transition.
How do you secure the adapter/damper to the hood?
Using two 1/2” screws, secure the adapter/damper to the top or back of the hood. Tape the adapter/damper to the hood using duct tape to seal it.
What should you do before connecting wires?
Before connecting wires, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally.
How should you connect the wiring?
Connect the cable to the range hood wiring using the included wire connectors. Connect BLACK to BLACK, WHITE to WHITE, and GREEN or BARE WIRE to GREEN ground screw.
What type of lamps does the range hood use?
This range hood must use compact fluorescent lamps (120 V, 13 W, PLC13, 2700 K with G24q-1 base).
How do you access the fluorescent lamps?
To access fluorescent lamps, remove the light diffuser by pushing on both tabs and pulling it down.
How do you install the fluorescent lamps?
To install the fluorescent lamps, slide their 4 prongs into their corresponding holes in their socket until secured. Reinstall the light diffuser.
How do you remove the fluorescent lamps?
To remove fluorescent lamps, remove the light diffuser and pull fluorescent lamps out of their socket.
What should you do before removing the fluorescent tubes?
In order to prevent the risk of personal injury, the fluorescent tubes must be cooled down before removing them.
What should you do with the fluorescent lamps that contain mercury?
Dispose of fluorescent lamps appropriately, according to local laws and requirements.
What parts should be cleaned frequently?
The grease filters, bottom panel, intake ring (A) and blower wheel (B) should be cleaned frequently.
How should you clean the grease filters, bottom panel, intake ring, and blower wheel?
Use a warm detergent solution. The grease filters, intake ring, and blower wheel are dishwasher safe.
What should you do before removing the blower wheel?
To remove the blower wheel, first take off its intake ring.
How do you remove the blower wheel?
Remove the blower wheel by pulling it down smoothly.
What should you make sure of when reinstalling the blower wheel?
When reinstalling the blower wheel, make sure the small tab (D) will fit into one hole of the motor.
What should you regularly wash the surfaces with?
Regularly wash surfaces with a clean cloth or rag soaked with warm water and mild soap or liquid dish detergent.
How should you clean in relation to the polish lines?
Always clean in the direction of the original polish lines.
What should you always do after cleaning?
Always rinse well with clear water (2 or 3 times) after cleaning. Wipe completely dry.
What should you not use to remove stubborn dirt?
Do not use any steel or stainless steel wool or any other scrapers to remove stubborn dirt.
What type of cleansers should you not use?
Do not use any harsh or abrasive cleansers.
What should you not allow to accumulate?
Do not allow dirt to accumulate.
What should you do during construction or renovation?
During construction or renovation, cover the hood to make sure no dust adheres to the stainless steel surface.
What should you not try to remove from the bottom panel?
Do not try to remove the black part © attached to the bottom panel.
What should you avoid when choosing a detergent?
Avoid cleaners that contain bleach, products containing chloride, fluoride, iodide, or bromide, and any combustible products used for cleaning such as acetone, alcohol, ether, or benzol.
How should you clean the enamel finish?
Clean the enamel finish with warm water and mild detergent only. If discoloration occurs, use a good enamel polish such as automotive polish. Do not use rough abrasive cleaners or porcelain cleaners.
When should you turn on the hood?
Always turn on the hood before beginning cooking in order to establish an air flow in the kitchen.
How long should you let the blower run after turning off the range?
Let the blower run for a few minutes to clear the air after turning off the range.
How do you turn off the blower?
Press the OFF BLOWER SWITCH to stop the blower operation.
How do you operate the blower speed?
Press the left switch (1) to turn on the blower on low speed, the middle switch (2) to turn on the blower on medium speed, and the right switch (3) to turn on the blower on high speed.
How do you operate the lights?
Press the ON/OFF LIGHTING SWITCH to turn on the fluorescent lights, and press again to turn them off.
What is included in the one year service repair warranty?
For one year from the date of the original purchase, we will provide free of charge, service labor to repair any failed parts or components due to manufacturing defects.
What is included in the one year parts warranty?
For one year from the date of original purchase, we will provide free of charge, nonconsumable replacement parts or components that failed due to manufacturing defects.
What consumable parts are not covered by the warranty?
Consumable parts not covered by this warranty include: Light Bulbs, Metal and Charcoal Filters.
Who is covered by the warranty?
This warranty is extended to the original purchaser for products purchased for ordinary home use in the 48 mainland states, Hawaii and Washington D.C. In Canada and Alaska, this warranty is Limited.
When will the warranty be voided?
This warranty will be voided when:
- Product damaged through negligence, misuse, abuse, accident.
- Improper installation and failure to follow installation instructions.
- When the product is used commercially or other than its intended purpose.
- Damaged because of improper connection with equipment of other manufacturers.
- Repaired or modified by anyone other than Zephyr’s Authorized Agents.
What is not covered by the warranty?
- Consumable parts such as light bulbs, filters, and fuses.
- Services outside of the service area and the labor cost incurred in connection with the removal, shipping and reinstallation cost, nor does it cover any other contingent expenses.
- The natural wear of finish, and wear due to improper maintenance, use of corrosive and abrasive cleaning products, pads, and oven cleaner products.
- Chips, dents, or cracks due to abuse, misuse, freight damage, or improper installation.
- Service trips to your home to teach you how to use the product.
- Damage of product caused by accident, fire, floods, or act of God.
Is the warranty transferable?
This warranty is not transferable and applies only to the original purchaser and does not extend to subsequent owners of this product.

Have your product proof of purchase with date ready for warranty issues.
How can you obtain service under warranty?
You must present proof of the original purchase date. Please keep a copy of your dated proof of purchase (sales slip) in order to obtain service under warranty.
