Note: One of the listed antennas is supplied depending on the region of purchase.

To insert the batteries into the remote control for your YAMAHA RX-V4A, open the battery compartment on the back of the remote and insert the two supplied AAA batteries, ensuring they are oriented the right way round according to the polarity markings.

To operate your YAMAHA RX-V4A with the remote control, point it at the remote control sensor on the front of the unit. The operating range is within 6 meters (20 feet) and within a 30-degree angle to the left or right of the sensor.

The YPAO (Yamaha Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer) function on your YAMAHA RX-V4A automatically optimizes the speaker settings to suit your room. It uses the supplied YPAO microphone to detect speaker connections, measure the distances from the speakers to your listening position, and then automatically adjusts settings like volume balance and acoustic parameters for the best possible sound.

The front panel of the YAMAHA RX-V4A has the following parts and functions:

• z (power): Turns the unit on or off (standby).

• Remote control sensor: Receives signals from the remote control.

• Indicators (ZONE, PURE DIRECT): Lights up when the zone is on or when PURE DIRECT is working.

• VOLUME: Adjusts the volume.

• Front display: Displays information and menus.

• SELECT/ENTER: Selects the input source and operates the front display menu.

• Standby indicator: Lights up in standby mode if HDMI Control, Standby Through, Network Standby, or Bluetooth Standby is enabled.

• USB jack: For connecting a USB flash drive.

• YPAO jack: For connecting the supplied YPAO microphone.

• PHONES jack: For connecting headphones.

• Touch panel (SCENE, RETURN, MENU (CONNECT)): Touch-sensitive controls for various functions. SCENE recalls preset settings, RETURN operates the menu, and MENU (CONNECT) operates the menu and initiates MusicCast/wireless LAN setup when held down.

The front display of the YAMAHA RX-V4A shows the following information:

• Operation mode icon: Indicates if the display is in input select mode or info select mode.

• Input default name: Shows the original name of a renamed input source.

• Main information: Displays the current input name or other input-related information.

• Play status icon: Shows icons for Shuffle, Repeat, and Playback/Pause/Stop status.

• Status icon: Indicates Wireless LAN connection, Bluetooth connection, Sleep timer activation, or a pending Firmware update.

• Volume: Shows the current volume level.

• SELECT/ENTER indicator: Shows the available action (push or rotate) for the SELECT/ENTER knob.

• Additional information: Displays extra details like DSP Program or Reception status.

To view additional information related to the current input source on your YAMAHA RX-V4A, follow these steps:

1. Push the SELECT/ENTER knob on the front panel. This switches the front display to the info select mode.

2. Rotate the SELECT/ENTER knob to cycle through the various information items available for the selected source.

The available information varies depending on the input source (e.g., HDMI, TUNER, SERVER) and can include details like DSP Program, Audio Decoder, HDMI Status, Zone Status, and System Status.

• PRE OUT jacks: For connecting a subwoofer with a built-in amplifier.

The basic flow for setting up your YAMAHA RX-V4A is as follows:

If using wired surround speakers:

1. Place speakers.

2. Connect speakers.

3. Connect a TV.

4. Connect playback devices.

5. Connect the radio antennas.

6. Prepare for connecting to a network.

7. Set up the MusicCast network.

8. Assign speaker configuration.

9. Configure the speaker settings (YPAO).

If using wireless surround speakers:

1. Place speakers.

2. Connect speakers (Front, Center).

To connect a speaker to your YAMAHA RX-V4A, follow these steps. Ensure the receiver’s power cable is unplugged before you begin.

1. Remove approximately 10 mm (3/8”) of insulation from the end of the speaker cable.

2. Twist the bare wires of the cable firmly together.

3. Loosen the speaker terminal on the rear panel of the receiver.

4. Insert the bare wires into the gap on the side of the terminal. Make sure the positive (+) wire goes to the red terminal and the negative (-) wire goes to the black terminal.

5. Tighten the terminal to secure the wire.

Repeat this process for all speakers, connecting them to the corresponding terminals on the receiver and the speakers themselves.

If your TV supports eARC/ARC (enhanced Audio Return Channel / Audio Return Channel), you can play back TV audio through your YAMAHA RX-V4A with a single HDMI cable.

1. Connect an HDMI cable from the HDMI OUT (eARC/ARC) jack on the rear of the YAMAHA RX-V4A.

2. Connect the other end of the HDMI cable to the HDMI input jack on your TV that is labeled (eARC/ARC).

3. On the YAMAHA RX-V4A, you will need to enable the HDMI Control function in the setup menu for ARC to work. You may also need to enable this function on your TV.

To automatically optimize your speaker settings using YPAO on the YAMAHA RX-V4A, follow this procedure:

1. Select impedance: If necessary, select the unit’s speaker impedance setting in the Setup menu.

2. Configure speakers: Configure the corresponding speaker settings (e.g., Bi-Amp, ZoneB).

3. Set subwoofer: Set the volume of your subwoofer to half. If it has a crossover frequency adjustment, set it to maximum.

4. Place microphone: Place the supplied YPAO microphone at your main listening position, at the same height as your ears. Using a tripod is recommended.

5. Connect microphone: Connect the YPAO microphone to the YPAO jack on the front panel of the receiver.

6. Start measurement: The “Auto Setup” screen will appear on your TV. Follow the on-screen guidance to start the measurement. The unit will output test tones from each speaker.

7. Save results: After the measurement finishes, the results are displayed. Select “Save” and press ENTER to apply the optimized settings.

8. Disconnect microphone: Disconnect the YPAO microphone from the unit.

If you receive a warning message after the YPAO measurement, you can still apply the results. However, it is recommended to resolve the issue and perform the measurement again for optimal performance. Here are the common warnings:

You can select your favorite sound mode on the YAMAHA RX-V4A by using the sound mode keys on the remote control. These keys include STRAIGHT, PURE DIRECT, ENHANCER, SUR.DECODE, and PROGRAM. Pressing these keys will cycle through or directly select different sound processing modes, allowing you to enjoy sound field effects or unprocessed stereo/multichannel sound.

To play music from a Bluetooth device like a smartphone on your YAMAHA RX-V4A, follow these steps:

1. Select “Bluetooth” as the input source on the YAMAHA RX-V4A.

2. On your Bluetooth device’s settings, find and select the YAMAHA RX-V4A in the list of available devices. The network name of the unit will be displayed.

3. If a passkey is required, enter “0000”.

4. Once connected, start playback on your Bluetooth device. The music will play through the receiver, and the playback screen will be displayed on your TV.

Yes, you can transmit audio played on the YAMAHA RX-V4A to Bluetooth speakers or headphones. Follow these steps:

1. Select any input source on the receiver other than “Bluetooth”.

2. Press SETUP on the remote control.

3. In the “Setup” menu, navigate to “Bluetooth” and set “Transmitter” to “On”.

4. Select “Device Search” in the same menu to find and select your Bluetooth speakers/headphones.

Once the connection is complete, audio from the receiver will be reproduced from your Bluetooth speakers/headphones. Note that sound will also be output from the speakers physically connected to the receiver.

The SCENE function on your YAMAHA RX-V4A allows you to select an input source and recall multiple favorite settings with a single button press. Simply press one of the numbered SCENE keys (1-4) on the remote control or the front panel. To register your own custom scene, set up the unit with the settings you want to save (input, sound mode, volume, etc.), then press and hold the desired SCENE key for a few seconds until “Setting Complete” appears on the front display.

To set up and use a second audio zone (Zone B) with your YAMAHA RX-V4A, follow these steps:

Setup:

1. Connect a pair of speakers for Zone B to the SURROUND/ZONE B/BI-AMP terminals on the rear of the unit.

2. Press SETUP on the remote, navigate to “Speaker” > “Configuration” > “Power Amp Assign” and set it to “ZoneB”.

Operation:

1. On the remote control, slide the zone switch to “ZONE B”.

2. Press the power key (z) to turn on Zone B. The “ZONE” indicator will light up on the front panel.

• Volume Level: The volume for that specific speaker may be set too low. Adjust the speaker’s “Level” in the Setup menu.

• Speaker Cable: The speaker cable may be loose, disconnected, or broken. Check the connections at both the receiver and the speaker.

• Speaker Malfunction: The speaker itself may be malfunctioning. Try connecting a different, working speaker to the same terminal to test.

If your subwoofer is not producing any sound, try these troubleshooting steps:

• LFE/Low-Frequency Signals: The audio source might not contain LFE (Low Frequency Effect) signals. To test, enable “Extra Bass” in the Setup menu, which will send low-frequency signals from the front channels to the subwoofer.

• Subwoofer Output Setting: Ensure the subwoofer is enabled in the settings. Go to the “Setup” menu, select “Speaker” > “Configuration” > “Subwoofer”, and set it to “Use”.

• Subwoofer Volume: The volume on the subwoofer itself might be turned down too low. Adjust the volume directly on the subwoofer.

• Subwoofer Auto-Standby: The subwoofer’s own auto-standby function may have turned it off. Disable this function on the subwoofer or adjust its sensitivity level.

If you are not getting a picture on your TV screen, check the following:

• Input Source (Receiver): An incorrect input source may be selected on the YAMAHA RX-V4A. Use the input selection keys to choose the correct one.

• Input Source (TV): An incorrect input source may be selected on the TV. Switch your TV’s input to the one the receiver is connected to.

• Unsupported Signal: The video signal from your playback device may not be supported by your TV. Check the output settings of your playback device and the supported resolutions of your TV.

• Cable Connection: The HDMI cable connecting the unit and the TV (or playback device) may be loose or broken. Check the connections or try a different cable.

• HDMI Signal Format: The HDMI 4K/8K signal format setting may be incorrect for your content or device. In the Setup menu, go to “HDMI” > “HDMI Video Format” and try a different setting (“4K Mode 1”, “4K Mode 2”, or “8K Mode”).

You can update the firmware on your YAMAHA RX-V4A either via the network or using a USB flash drive.

Via Network:

1. Ensure the unit is connected to the Internet.

2. When a new firmware is available, an update indicator will light up on the front display, and an update message will appear on your TV when you press SETUP.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to start the update. The process takes about 20 minutes or more. Do not turn off the unit or disconnect it from power or the network during the update.

4. When “UPDATE SUCCESS PLEASE POWER OFF!” appears on the front display, turn the unit off and on again to complete the update.

Via USB:

1. Download the latest firmware file from the Yamaha website to your computer.

2. Copy the file to the root directory of a USB flash drive.

3. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port on the front of the YAMAHA RX-V4A.

4. Go to the “Setup” menu, then select “Function” > “Firmware Update” > “USB Update” and follow the instructions.

To care for the front panel of your YAMAHA RX-V4A:

• Wipe the front panel gently with a soft, dry cloth. Do not wipe the surface hard, as this may cause damage.

• Before cleaning, make sure to turn off (standby) the power to the unit.

• To prevent the unit from turning on accidentally while cleaning the touch panel, you can disable it while in standby mode by pressing and holding SELECT/ENTER.
