The majority of fatalities from motorcycle accidents are the result of head injuries. The use of a safety helmet is the single most critical factor in the prevention or reduction of head injuries.

• **Helmet:** Always wear an approved helmet.

• **Eye Protection:** Wear a face shield or goggles. Wind in unprotected eyes can impair vision.

• **Clothing:** The use of a jacket, substantial shoes, trousers, and gloves is effective in preventing or reducing abrasions or lacerations. Never wear loose-fitting clothes. Always wear protective clothing that covers your legs, ankles, and feet, as the engine and exhaust system become very hot and can cause burns.

• A passenger should also observe these precautions.

All engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide, a deadly gas. Breathing carbon monoxide can cause headaches, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, confusion, and eventually death. To prevent poisoning:

• Do not run the engine indoors. Even with ventilation, carbon monoxide can rapidly reach dangerous levels.

• Do not run the engine in poorly ventilated or partially enclosed areas such as barns, garages, or carports.

• Do not run the engine outdoors where engine exhaust can be drawn into a building through openings like windows and doors.

If you experience any symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, leave the area immediately, get fresh air, and SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT.

Adding accessories or cargo can affect the stability and handling of your YAMAHA NVX GDR155-A. The total weight of the operator, passenger, accessories, and cargo must not exceed the maximum load limit of 153 kg (337 lb). Operation of an overloaded vehicle could cause an accident.

When loading within this weight limit, keep the following in mind:

• Keep cargo and accessory weight as low and close to the motorcycle as possible. Pack heaviest items close to the center and distribute weight evenly on both sides.

• Securely attach all accessories and cargo before riding and check them frequently.

• Properly adjust the suspension for your load (if applicable) and check tire condition and pressure.

• This vehicle is not designed to pull a trailer or be attached to a sidecar.

The smart key system allows you to operate the vehicle without a mechanical key. The approximate operating range is a radius around the vehicle.

To turn the smart key on or off:

Push the smart key button for approximately 1 second. When the key is off, the vehicle cannot be operated.

To check if the smart key is on or off:

Push the smart key button. A short flash (0.1 seconds) of the indicator light means it is on. A long flash (0.5 seconds) means it is off.

Remote Answer-Back Function:

Push the smart key button to activate the answer-back function. The beeper will sound twice and turn signals will flash twice to help you locate your vehicle. The operating range is approximately 20 meters.

To turn the answer-back beeper on or off:

1. Turn the smart key on and bring it within operating range.

2. Turn the main switch to “OFF”, then push the main switch knob once.

3. Within 9 seconds, push and hold the knob again for 5 seconds.

4. The beeper will sound to confirm the setting: once for ON, twice for OFF.

Replace the battery when the smart key system indicator light on the meter flashes for 20 seconds after turning the vehicle on, or if the answer-back function does not operate.

1. Open the smart key case as shown in the manual, using a cloth with a screwdriver to prevent scratching.

2. Remove the old battery.

3. Install a new CR2032 battery, ensuring the positive/”+” side is correctly oriented.

4. Gently snap the smart key case closed.

Dispose of the removed battery according to local regulations.

With the smart key in range, pushing the main switch knob allows you to turn the switch. Never turn the main switch to “OFF”, “lock”, or “OPEN” while the vehicle is moving.

To turn the vehicle power on:

1. Turn the smart key on and bring it within range.

2. Push the main switch knob. The smart key indicator light will come on for about 4 seconds.

3. While the indicator light is on, turn the main switch to “ON”. The turn signal lights flash twice.

OFF (off):

Turn the switch to “OFF”. All electrical systems are off.

OPEN (open):

This position allows the fuel tank cap lid and the seat to be opened.

1. With the smart key on and in range, push the main switch knob.

2. While the smart key indicator is on, turn the main switch to “OPEN”.

3. Push the “FUEL” button to open the fuel tank cap lid, or push the “SEAT” button to open the seat.

Lock:

This position locks the steering and turns off all electrical systems.

To lock the steering:

1. Turn the handlebar all the way to the left.

2. With the smart key on and within operating range, push the main switch knob.

3. While the smart key system indicator light is on, push and turn the main switch to the “lock” position. The steering is now locked.

To unlock the steering:

1. With the smart key turned on and within operating range, push the main switch knob.

2. While the smart key system indicator light is on, push and turn the main switch to the desired position (e.g., “ON” or “OFF”).

The Stop and Start System automatically stops the engine when the vehicle is stopped to reduce noise, emissions, and fuel consumption. The engine restarts automatically when the throttle is turned.

Activating the System:

1. Turn the main switch on.

2. Set the Stop and Start System switch to the “A” position.

3. The system activates and the indicator light comes on after these conditions are met:

• The engine has warmed up.

• The engine was left idling for a certain period.

• The vehicle has traveled at a speed of 10 km/h or higher.

Stopping the Engine:

Once the system is active (indicator light is on), the engine will stop automatically when the vehicle is stopped and the throttle grip is fully closed. The indicator light will start flashing.

Restarting the Engine:

Simply turn the throttle grip. The engine will restart automatically, and the indicator light will stop flashing.

Deactivating the System:

Set the Stop and Start System switch to the “A with a slash” position.

To prevent accidents due to improper operation, observe the following precautions:

• When parking or leaving the vehicle unattended, always turn the main switch off. If the system is left on, the battery could discharge.

• Do not turn the throttle grip quickly when the system is active and the engine is stopped, as the vehicle could start moving unexpectedly.

• When walking while pushing the vehicle, turn the main switch off to prevent accidental engine start.

• When placing the vehicle on the centerstand, turn the main switch off.

• Before performing any maintenance, be sure to turn the main switch off.

• Note that lowering the sidestand deactivates the Stop and Start System.

The Communication Control Unit (CCU) allows you to connect your vehicle and smartphone using Bluetooth and the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect app.

1. Download the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect smartphone app.

2. Open the seat.

3. Remove the battery cover.

4. Pull out the CCU and scan its QR code with your smartphone using the app to begin the pairing process.

5. Once pairing is complete, the Yamaha Motorcycle Connect icon and smartphone battery level meter will appear on the multi-function display.

Once paired, the connection will be automatic the next time the vehicle is turned on and the app is active. Only one smartphone can be connected at a time.

• **Turn Signal Indicators:** Flash when the corresponding turn signals are active.

• **High Beam Indicator:** Comes on when the headlight high beam is switched on.

• **Coolant Temperature Warning Light:** Comes on if the engine is overheating. Stop the engine immediately and let it cool.

• **Engine Trouble Warning Light:** Comes on if a problem is detected in the engine or vehicle control system. Have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.

• **ABS Warning Light (ABS models):** Comes on when the ignition is turned on and goes off after riding starts. If it comes on while riding, the ABS may not work correctly. Use extra caution and have the vehicle checked.

• **Smart Key System Indicator Light (GDR155-A):** Communicates the status of the smart key system. Flashes when there is an error or during certain operations.

The display includes:

• Tachometer

• Fuel Meter

• VVA (variable valve actuation) indicator

• Smartphone-related icons (if connected)

The multi-function display area can be cycled through different modes by pushing the “MENU” switch. The modes include:

• Odometer (ODO)

• Tripmeters (TRIP 1, TRIP 2)

• Fuel reserve tripmeter (TRIP F)

• Instantaneous/Average fuel consumption (F/ECO, AVE F/ECO)

• Battery voltage (BATT)

• Oil change tripmeter (OIL TRIP)

• V-belt replacement tripmeter (V-BELT TRIP)

• Backlight dimmer (bL)

To set the 12-hour clock on your multi-function meter:

1. Push the “MENU” switch until the hour digits start flashing.

2. Use the “MENU” switch to set the correct hour.

3. Push the “MENU” switch again until the minute digits start flashing.

4. Use the “MENU” switch to set the correct minutes.

5. Push the “MENU” switch one more time until the digits stop flashing to confirm the setting.

The period between 0 and 1600 km (1000 mi) is the most important in the life of your engine. During this time, do not put an excessive load on the new engine to allow parts to wear and polish themselves to the correct operating clearances.

• **0–1000 km (0–600 mi):** Avoid prolonged operation above 1/3 throttle. After 1000 km (600 mi), be sure to replace the engine oil and final transmission oil.

• **1000–1600 km (600–1000 mi):** Avoid prolonged operation above 1/2 throttle.

• **1600 km (1000 mi) and beyond:** The vehicle can now be operated normally.

If any engine trouble occurs during the break-in period, immediately have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.

The ignition circuit cut-off system enables starting only when the sidestand is up.

1. Turn the main switch on.

2. Confirm the indicator and warning lights come on for a few seconds, and then go off.

3. Close the throttle completely.

4. While applying the front or rear brake, push the start switch.

5. Release the start switch when the engine starts. If it doesn’t start within 5 seconds, wait 10 seconds before trying again to allow battery voltage to restore.

For maximum engine life, never accelerate hard when the engine is cold.

1. Close the throttle completely.

2. Apply both front and rear brakes simultaneously while gradually increasing the pressure.

Warning:

• Avoid braking hard or suddenly, especially when leaning over, as the vehicle may skid or overturn.

• Railroad crossings, iron plates, and manhole covers become extremely slippery when wet. Slow down and cross these areas with caution.

• Braking on a wet road is much more difficult.

• Ride slowly down a hill, as braking downhill can be very difficult.

Before using your vehicle, check the following points to ensure it is in safe operating condition. Failure to inspect or maintain the vehicle properly increases the possibility of an accident or equipment damage.

To check the engine oil level:

1. Place the vehicle on its center stand on a level surface.

2. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, then turn it off.

3. Wait a few minutes for the oil to settle. Remove the engine oil filler cap/dipstick, wipe it clean, insert it back into the filler hole without screwing it in, then remove it again to check the level. The oil level should be between the tip of the dipstick and the maximum level mark.

4. If the oil is low, add enough recommended oil to raise it to the correct level.

To change the engine oil:

1. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off.

2. Place an oil pan under the engine.

3. Remove the engine oil filler cap and engine oil drain bolts A and B to drain the oil. Be careful not to lose the O-ring, compression spring, and oil strainer that come out with drain bolt B.

4. Clean the engine oil strainer with solvent and check for damage.

5. Install the strainer, spring, new O-ring and drain bolt B.

6. Install drain bolt A with a new gasket. Tighten both drain bolts to 20 N·m (2.0 kgf·m, 15 lb·ft).

7. Refill with the specified amount (0.90 L) of recommended engine oil.

8. Install the oil filler cap.

9. Start the engine and check for leaks. Then, turn the engine off and recheck the oil level.

10. Reset the oil change indicator on the meter.

If the smart key system does not work, please check the following items:

• Is the smart key turned on?

• Is the smart key battery discharged?

• Is the smart key battery installed correctly?

• Is the smart key being used in a location with strong radio waves or other electromagnetic noise?

• Are you using the smart key that is registered to the vehicle?

• Is the vehicle battery discharged?

If the system still does not work after checking these items, have a Yamaha dealer inspect it. You can operate the vehicle in emergency mode using the identification number.

If the indicator light does not come on:

1. Is the main switch turned on?

2. Is the Stop and Start System switch set to “A”?

3. Was the engine warmed up sufficiently?

4. Was the engine left idling for a certain period after warm-up?

5. Did the vehicle travel at a speed of 10 km/h or higher?

If these conditions are met and the light is still off, have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle. The system may not activate to preserve battery power.

If the light comes on, but the engine does not stop automatically:

1. Was the vehicle stopped completely? The engine may require a certain period of time at a complete stop.

2. Is the throttle grip fully closed? The engine will not stop if the throttle is open.

If the engine does not restart after being stopped by the system:

1. Is the system switch still set to “A”? If it was turned off, the system will not restart the engine.

2. Was the sidestand operated? Lowering the sidestand deactivates the system.

3. Was the engine stopped for a long time? The battery may have discharged.

If you check these conditions and the engine still does not restart, have a Yamaha dealer check the vehicle.

You will need your smart key system identification number to operate the vehicle in emergency mode.

1. Stop in a safe place and turn the main switch to “OFF”.

2. Push the main switch knob for 5 seconds until the smart key indicator light flashes once, then release it. Repeat this two more times. After the third time, the indicator light will come on for three seconds, indicating the start of emergency mode.

3. After the light goes off, you will input the identification number by pushing and holding the main switch knob, counting the flashes of the indicator light for each digit.

4. For each digit of your ID number (e.g., if the first digit is “2”), push and hold the knob. The indicator light will start to flash. Release the knob after it has flashed the correct number of times (e.g., twice for “2”). Repeat this process for all digits of the identification number.

5. If the correct number was entered, the smart key indicator light will flash for 10 seconds. Then, push the knob once more to complete access. The indicator light will come on for approximately 4 seconds.

6. While the indicator light is on, turn the main switch to “ON”. The vehicle can now be operated normally.

If an incorrect number is entered, the indicator light will flash quickly for 3 seconds. You must start the process over from step 2.

Frequent, thorough cleaning will enhance your vehicle’s appearance, improve performance, and extend its life.

Before Washing:

1. Park the vehicle out of direct sunlight and allow it to cool.

2. Ensure all caps, covers, and electrical connectors are tightly installed.

3. Cover the muffler end with a plastic bag.

4. Pre-soak stubborn stains with a wet towel.

5. Remove grime and oil with a quality degreasing agent, avoiding areas like seals, gaskets, and wheel axles.

Washing:

1. Rinse off any degreaser with a garden hose using gentle pressure.

2. Wash with an automotive-type detergent mixed with cool water and a soft towel or sponge. Use cold water if the vehicle has been exposed to salt.

3. Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove all detergent residue.

After Washing:

1. Dry the vehicle with a chamois or absorbent towel.

2. Use a chrome polish to shine chrome, aluminum, and stainless steel parts.

3. Apply a corrosion protection spray on all metal parts.

4. Treat rubber, vinyl, and unpainted plastic with a suitable care product.

5. Start the engine and let it idle for several minutes to help dry any remaining moisture.

Before storing your vehicle for 60 days or more, follow these steps:

1. Follow all instructions in the “Care” section.

2. Fill the fuel tank and add a fuel stabilizer according to product instructions. Run the engine for 5 minutes to distribute the treated fuel.

3. To protect the engine cylinder from corrosion, pour a teaspoon of engine oil into the spark plug bore, then turn the engine over several times with the starter (with the spark plug grounded on the cylinder head). Reinstall the spark plug and cap.

4. Lubricate all control cables and pivoting points.

5. Check and correct the tire air pressure, then lift the vehicle so both wheels are off the ground. If this is not possible, turn the wheels a little once a month.

6. Cover the muffler outlet with a plastic bag.

7. Remove the battery and fully charge it. Store it in a cool, dry place and recharge it once a month.

Record the vehicle identification number (VIN) and engine serial number for reference in case the vehicle is stolen or when ordering parts.
