The shipping package for the YAMAHA HHS9D Hi-Hat Stand should contain the following parts:

To assemble and secure the legs of your YAMAHA HHS9D, follow these steps:

Step 1. Open the footboard of the base unit.

Step 2. Loosen bolt A, and then open the two legs to their most stable position to prevent the stand from overturning while playing.

Step 3. Tighten bolt A to secure the legs in place.

Step 4. To mark the opening position of the legs for easy setup, loosen the screw of memory clamp B with a tuning key. Move the memory clamp B to the boundary line of the leg holder and the base pipe, and then retighten the screw.

The YAMAHA HHS9D comes with two hi-hat shafts (long and short) for your preference in height adjustment. To install one, follow these steps:

Step 1. Select either the long or short hi-hat shaft according to your desired height. The short hi-hat shaft is installed to the top pipe from the factory.

Step 2. Put the chosen hi-hat shaft into the hi-hat shaft rod fixing nut in the base assembly pipe holder to secure it.

Step 1. Insert the top pipe into the pipe holder of the base assembly.

Step 2. Once the desired height is determined, tighten bolt D to secure the top pipe.

Please be careful not to continuously fasten bolt D for a long time without the top pipe inserted, as this may prevent you from being able to insert the top pipe later.

To set the bottom hi-hat cymbal, place it onto the cymbal support plate on the stand. You can adjust the tilt angle of the bottom hi-hat cymbal by rotating the adjustment nut located under the cymbal support plate.

To attach the top hi-hat cymbal to the hi-hat clutch (LC9), follow these steps:

Step 1. To remove the clutch nut from the hi-hat clutch, hold the upper part of the clutch bolt with one hand so it doesn’t move. With your other hand, rotate the metal part of the clutch nut to the left.

Step 2. Remove the lower felt and install the cymbal. Thread the downward-facing cymbal, then the bottom felt, and then the clutch nut through the axis of the clutch bolt. Insert the cymbal between the upper and lower felts. Ensure the hole is oriented correctly and install the clutch nut all the way in.

Step 3. Turn the metal part of the clutch nut to the right until it clicks to secure the cymbal. Check that the clutch nut does not fall out.

The hi-hat clutch is designed to fix and hold the top hi-hat cymbal in place between the two felts.

Use the dual-structure lock nut to adjust how tightly the top hi-hat cymbal is gripped.

Step 1. Use lock nut A to adjust how tight the top hi-hat cymbal is held. Rotating it to the right increases tension, while turning to the left decreases tension.

Step 2. Once the desired tightness is set with lock nut A, tighten lock nut B to firmly fix lock nut A in place and prevent slack.

If the lock nut is fastened too tightly, it may not be possible to attach the clutch nut. If this happens, loosen the lock nut to a position where the clutch nut can be attached.

Once the top cymbal is secured in the hi-hat clutch, slide the entire clutch assembly onto the hi-hat shaft. Step on the footboard to create the desired amount of space between the top and bottom cymbals, and then tighten the wing bolt on the clutch to secure it to the shaft.

The memory clamp allows you to mark the height of the hi-hat cymbal for consistent setup. To set it:

Step 1. If necessary, adjust the height of the top pipe and position of the hi-hat cymbal to your desired setting.

Step 2. Using a tuning key, loosen the screw of memory clamp A. Move the clamp to the boundary line where the top pipe and the base pipe meet.

Step 3. Ensure memory clamp A fits firmly into the hollow on the back of the base assembly pipe holder.

Step 4. Tighten the screw of memory clamp A with the tuning key. Use the tuning key to firmly tighten the clamp to prevent the pipe from slipping when you play.

Use the adjustment dial to change the tension of the footboard spring on your YAMAHA HHS9D. Turning the dial in the “+” direction increases tension, while turning it in the “–” direction decreases tension. The indicator provides a convenient visual display of the current tension amount.

You can adjust the footboard angle by raising or lowering the angle adjuster.

Step 1. Use the tuning key to loosen bolt C.

Step 2. Slide the angle adjuster higher or lower as needed to achieve the desired footboard angle.

Step 3. After the angle has been determined, firmly tighten bolt C with the tuning key.

The position of the two legs on the YAMAHA HHS9D can be adjusted for stability and placement.

Step 1. Loosen bolt A, and then use the tuning key to loosen bolt B.

Step 2. Adjust the legs to the desired position. It is recommended that you open the two legs to their most stable state, which is the position where the reference lines on the leg holders align in a single row.

Step 3. After the position has been determined, firmly tighten bolts A and B.

Your YAMAHA HHS9D is equipped with stoppers and spikes to prevent it from sliding. To prevent damage to the floor, it is recommended to place the stand on a carpet.

Using the Stoppers:

Push the button on the top of the rubber foot to extend the enclosed stopper spike. By pressing the button on the top of the leg rubber, the stopper spike can be inserted or retracted with a single touch.

Using the Spikes:

Turn the four spike heads located at the lower part of the footboard clockwise. This extends the spikes out toward the floor.

To remove the top hi-hat cymbal from your YAMAHA HHS9D, follow the assembly steps for attaching it in reverse order.
