- Use the Headlight only with the Welch Allyn HI*Lux Light Source and Welch Allyn Fiber Optic Bundle.
- Service must be performed only by Welch Allyn authorized repair personnel.
- Overtightening the adjustment knobs will damage the gear teeth.
- Turn off the light source before disconnecting the fiber optic bundle from the headlight or light source.
How to assemble the headlight?
- Carefully remove the fiber optic bundle from the plastic bag.
- Carefully remove the headlight assembly from the plastic bag.
- Insert the fiber optic bundle distal end into the luminaire.
- Drape the fiber optic bundle over the top of the headband. Align marks on the fiber optic bundle with clips attached to the top and back of the headband. Press the bundle into clips.
- Turn the light source intensity down to the minimum. Insert the fiber optic bundle proximal end into the light source port.
- Turn the light source on. Adjust the light intensity as desired.
How to operate the headlight?
- Adjust the size of the illumination spot by turning the grooved dial on the luminaire. The spot size ranges from .75in to 3in (20mm to 75mm) in diameter with a 16in (40cm) working distance.
- Use knobs at the top and rear of the headlight assembly to adjust the headbands for fit and comfort. The bottom of the headband should be even with the tops of the ears.
- For greatest comfort, use a gown clip to secure the fiber optic bundle to the user’s surgical gown.
- The headlight assembly can assume a wide variety of positions. Use the joystick to adjust. For easiest adjustment, place it in an indirect position before putting on the headlight. While wearing the headlight, adjust the luminaire downward as desired.
How to clean and maintain the luminaire, headband, and fiber optic bundle?
The exterior surfaces of the luminaire, headband, and fiber optic bundle can be wiped clean with any of these solutions:
- Banicide
- 10% bleach
- Cidex, CidexPlus, Cidex 7
- Metracide
- 70% isopropyl alcohol
- Wavecide-01
- 10% Wescodyne
- mild soap
Keep ends of the fiber optic bundle clean by wiping with a damp cloth. Allow to dry before use.
Avoid scratching or striking ends of the fiber optic bundle, as light transmission losses can result.
How to inspect the fiber optic bundle for light transmission losses?
Remove it from the light source and headlight assembly. Hold one end of the fiber optic bundle up to room lighting and examine the other end. Replace the fiber optic bundle if 25% or more of the end area is dark.
How to sterilize the joystick?
The joystick can be sterilized by steam autoclave. Unscrew it from the luminaire and process it in a standard steam autoclave.
What does the headlight warranty cover?
The Welch Allyn Fiber Optic Headlight is guaranteed against all defects in materials and workmanship. Welch Allyn will repair or replace, free of charge, any component found to be defective for reasons other than misuse, neglect, damage in shipment, or normal wear. This headlight assembly warranty is in effect for three years from the date of purchase.
What does the fiber optic bundle warranty cover?
The Welch Allyn Fiber Optic Bundle is guaranteed against all defects in materials and workmanship. Welch Allyn will repair or replace, free of charge, any parts that prove defective for reasons other than misuse, neglect, damage in shipment, or normal wear. This fiber optic bundle warranty is in effect for 18 months from the date of purchase.
