What are the current draw and fusing requirements?

The current draw of the TriColor/Anchor light is ≤ 0.33 Amps at 12V DC.

A circuit breaker or fuse of 2 Amps is recommended.

Improper fuse protection could result in severe damage to the light, boat, or persons in the event of a catastrophic failure.

What are the specifications of the TriColor/Anchor LED Navigation Light?

Visibility: 2+ nautical miles

Waterproof: Yes, completely submersible

Power Consumption: 6 Watts

Voltage Range: 9V to 30V DC

Current Draw: ≤ 0.33 Amps at 12V DC

Wiring: 3-conductor waterproof plug with supplied mating connector and 6-foot cable

Horizontal Viewing Angle: 225°

Vertical Viewing Angle: +/- 36°

What models of the TriColor/Anchor LED Navigation Light are available?

Model # Description
LXTA-S LX TriColor/Anchor LED Nav Light with Strobe
LXTA-SP LX TriColor/Anchor LED Nav Light with Photodiode & Strobe

For what type of vessel is this light intended?

Weems & Plath’s OGM LX TriColor/Anchor LED Navigation Light is designed for use on sailboats that are under 65.5-feet (20-meters) in length and will provide full brightness at any operating voltage from 9V to 30V DC. This ensures the light will meet or exceed the visibility requirements as the battery voltage drops from use. To ensure compliance with the ’72 COLREGS and U.S. Inland Rules, the installation instructions provided must be followed.

How should the TriColor/Anchor Light be mounted?

1. The TriColor/Anchor Light should be mounted at the top of the mast, be level, and with the center divider (located between the red and green lights) facing directly forward.

2. The three 6-32 threaded holes in the bottom of the light’s housing should be used to secure the light to an accessory bracket or mounting plate. *Mounting brackets can be purchased from Weems & Plath or your local marine retailer.

3. We recommend using an anti-seize lubricant (such as Tef-Gel) when installing the stainless steel fasteners in aluminum housing.

4. The light is completely waterproof, so no extra precautions are necessary to protect the components within the light. The light is not designed to be opened; doing so will void the warranty.

What are the wiring instructions for three-wire operation?

The TriColor/Anchor Light is equipped with a 3-conductor waterproof plug. The mating connector and 6-foot, 24 AWG cable are included. The wires can be spliced into existing two or three-conductor mast wiring. Mast wiring of 20-gauge is sufficient to supply power to the TriColor/Anchor Light, although 16-gauge is recommended.

There are three wires in the supplied mating pigtail cable. The proper connection for these wires is shown in the table below:

Wire Color from Yellow Cable Connection / Function
Black Electrical ground / negative battery terminal
Brown Power for Anchor light
Blue Power for TriColor light

If power is applied to both the brown and blue wires at the same time, the strobe will activate.

How does the light function in the various three-wire modes?

*If your TriColor/Anchor Light has a photodiode option, the light will blink twice and then go off in ambient light. This is normal operation.

The table below will aid in the understanding of the light operation and operation of the photodiode and strobe options:

Black Wire Brown Wire Blue Wire Day/Night Function w/ Photodiode Function w/ Strobe Function w/ Photodiode & Strobe
Ground (-) OFF OFF Night OFF OFF OFF
Ground (-) OFF OFF Day OFF OFF OFF
Ground (-) OFF On Night TriColor On TriColor On TriColor On
Ground (-) OFF On Day TriColor On TriColor On TriColor On
Ground (-) On OFF Night Anchor On Anchor On Anchor On
Ground (-) On OFF Day OFF Anchor On OFF
Ground (-) On On Night OFF Strobe Strobe
Ground (-) On On Day OFF Strobe Strobe

The Selector Switch (#SWITCH SEL), which is available from Weems & Plath or your local marine retailer, provides a convenient control panel switch for operating the light in both two and three-wire modes.

How do I set up and operate the light in two-wire mode?

Two-wire operation is possible and convenient for users who wish to replace their Anchor light with a combination TriColor/Anchor Light without rewiring the mast. This is only possible if the ground wire for the existing cable is not connected to any other devices or to the mast itself, and the strobe option is not used. TriColor or Anchor modes are selected by reversing the polarity of the brown and blue wires from the pigtail. A simple Reversing Switch (#SWITCH REV), which is also available from Weems & Plath or your local marine retailer, can be used to reverse the polarity. The black wire should not be used from the pigtail cable and should be protected from touching anything metallic, including the mast.

The table below will aid in the understanding of the two-wire light, including use of the photodiode option:

Black Wire Brown Wire Blue Wire Day/Night Function w/ Photodiode
Unconnected OFF OFF Night OFF
Unconnected OFF OFF Day OFF
Unconnected Ground Power Night TriColor On
Unconnected Ground Power Day TriColor On
Unconnected Power Ground Night Anchor On
Unconnected Power Ground Day Anchor OFF
