What are the important safeguards for using the VITAPUR VWD1006BLP water dispenser?
Your VITAPUR VWD1006BLP water dispenser is designed for indoor applications only; do not use it outdoors.
Important Note: The dispenser has a special “safety” feature (float switch mechanism) that controls the Kettle Feature hot water tank heating system. If no water is present or if low water levels are detected in the internal reservoir, the Kettle Feature hot water heating system cannot be activated. Similarly, if the hot water system is operating and water is drawn, causing the internal water level to drop below the minimum, the hot water tank operation will be automatically suspended. To reactivate it, you must replenish the water supply.
Please follow these safeguards:
• Never turn the dispenser upside down or tilt it more than 45 degrees. If the unit has been resting on its side, place it in the upright position for approximately 12 hours before turning it on.
• Use with 3 or 5 gallon (12 or 19 liter) water bottles.
• Never use this dispenser with water that is unsafe to drink or from an unknown source.
• Never use any other liquid in the dispenser other than known and microbiologically safe bottled water.
• Never allow children to dispense hot water without proper and direct supervision.
• This dispenser is equipped with a grounded power cord plug for your safety.
• Keep your water dispenser in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
• Never put anything flammable close to the dispenser.
• Leave a minimum of 2 inches (5 cm) around the back and sides of the dispenser for proper ventilation.
• Always install your water dispenser on a level floor. Wait 3 minutes before restarting the machine after shutting it down.
• Always unplug the water dispenser before servicing.
• Regular cleaning of your water dispenser is required for your warranty. Please follow the cleaning instructions and clean the dispenser every 4 months.
What are the grounding instructions for the VITAPUR VWD1006BLP?
Improper use of the grounding plug can result in a risk of electric shock causing serious injury, even death. This appliance must be grounded.
• This appliance is equipped with a power cord having a grounding wire with a grounding plug and must be connected into a properly grounded polarized outlet. Consult a qualified electrician if the grounding instructions are not completely understood, or if doubt exists as to whether the appliance is properly grounded. If the wall outlet is a standard 2-prong outlet, it is your personal responsibility and obligation to have it replaced with a properly grounded 3-prong wall outlet.
• Do not under any circumstances cut or remove the third (ground) prong from the power cord plug.
• Do not use an adapter plug with this appliance.
• Do not use an extension cord with this appliance. If the power cord is too short, have a qualified electrician install an electrical outlet near the appliance.
What do the indicator lights on my VITAPUR VWD1006BLP mean?
The ready-to-dispense indicator lights on your VITAPUR VWD1006BLP have the following meanings:
Red Light: “Flashing” = The heater (hot water tank) is operational.
Red Light: “Steady On” = The hot water has reached optimum temperature and is ready for dispensing.
Red Light: “Off” = The hot water tank heating system is off. However, water within the tank may still be very hot, so always exercise caution when dispensing.
Blue Light: “Steady On” = The cold water has reached optimum temperature and is ready for dispensing.
Blue Light: “Off” = The cooling cycle is in progress. It is possible to dispense water during the cooling cycle, but the optimum cooling temperature may not yet be achieved.
Yellow Light: “Flashing” = There is a low water level inside the internal reservoir, or the water bottle is empty.
Yellow Light: “Off” = The status of all water levels is normal.
How do I perform the initial cleaning of my VITAPUR VWD1006BLP?
To maintain a hygienic environment and prevent bacterial growth, your VITAPUR VWD1006BLP must be cleaned on a regular basis (every 4 months). Follow these steps for the initial cleaning:
1. Make sure the lower compartment storage door is “open” to prevent activation of the water pump.
2. Make sure the power cord is plugged into an electrical outlet.
3. In a clean jug or container, pre-mix 50ml / 1.7oz of water dispenser cleaner with 2L / 0.5 gal of hot water. Place the jug on the floor of the bottle storage compartment. Insert the stainless steel straw into the cleaning solution (ensure the jug does not tip over) and close the storage door. The water pump will start automatically, drawing the solution into the reservoirs. When all the solution is drawn, the pump will run for about 20 more seconds and then stop, followed by a flashing yellow “add water” light, which is normal. Open the storage door to cancel the flashing light. Allow the cleaning solution to sit inside the dispenser for 20 minutes.
4. Place a jug under the dispensing spigots and press both the hot and cold dispensing buttons until the cleaning solution stops flowing. Discard this solution.
5. Using a jug, drain the remaining cleaning solution from the internal reservoirs by unscrewing the drain cap and removing the drain plug from the drain valve at the back of the unit. Discard this solution.
6. Re-install the drain plug and drain cap. Flush the system using 2L of clean water only (no cleaning solution) by repeating step 3. Then, place a jug under the drain valve, remove the cap and plug, and let the rinse water drain out. Once the water stops flowing, re-install the drain plug and cap and tighten. The cleaning is complete.
How do I install a water bottle on the VITAPUR VWD1006BLP?
Important: Always wash your hands before handling a water bottle. Clean the top of the bottle with a clean cloth.
1. Ensure the lower door (bottle storage compartment) is open. The pump cannot operate while the door is open.
2. Remove the protective label from the top of the bottle.
3. To puncture the membrane in the bottle cap, insert the straw into the cap and push down. Insert the straw all the way until it touches the bottom of the bottle. Note: The straw has a telescopic design for use with 18.9L (5gal) and 11.4L (3gal) bottles. To adjust its length, hold the upper portion and pull/push the lower portion to the desired length.
4. To attach the straw to the bottle neck, ensure the handle is in the “horizontal” position and press firmly onto the top of the bottle neck. When the handle is in the “vertical” (locked) position, you can lift/carry the bottle. However, for installation inside the storage compartment, the handle must be in the “horizontal” position.
Important: Do not break or remove the seal from around the neck of the water bottle, otherwise you will not be able to lift/carry the bottle with the carry handle.
5. Position the bottle in front of the storage compartment ramp and slide it inside until it stops.
6. Close the lower compartment door. The water pump will automatically start delivering water to the dispenser. The pump will stop when the internal reservoirs are full.
How do I dispense hot, cold, and room temperature water from the VITAPUR VWD1006BLP?
Dispensing Cold and Room Temperature Water:
Place a glass under the dispensing spigot on the right side of the water outlet panel. For cold water, press and hold dispensing button (#7) until the desired amount is dispensed. For room temperature water, press and hold dispensing button (#6).
Dispensing Hot Water:
The Kettle Feature is an on-demand system. It activates the hot water system “only” when the red Kettle Feature button is pressed, delivering steaming hot water in less than 3 minutes. To stop or cancel a cycle, press the Kettle Feature button a second time, and the red LED will stop flashing.
Danger: Hot water is heated to approximately 194° F / 90° C. Temperatures above 125° F / 52° C can cause severe burns. Do not allow children to use the hot water dispensing button without proper and direct supervision.
To dispense hot water, you must use the child resistant safety switch. Push the safety switch sideways (from right to left), then depress the hot water button until the desired amount of water is dispensed. The safety lock will automatically return to the locked position upon release.
How do I adjust the cold water temperature on the VITAPUR VWD1006BLP?
You can adjust the cold water temperature by turning the thermostat dial at the back of the unit. Turn the dial clockwise between the high (cool) and low (colder) levels to reach the desired temperature. The hot water temperature is factory set and cannot be adjusted.
If the dispenser is not dispensing water, there could be ice build-up from the thermostat being set too cold. If this occurs, unplug the dispenser overnight and then reset it. Set the thermostat to high, then slowly increase it based on your use and need for cold water.
How do I clean and maintain my VITAPUR VWD1006BLP?
Regular cleaning every 4 months is required for maximum efficiency, performance, and hygiene. Follow the “Initial Product Cleaning Procedure” for a full internal cleaning.
Cleaning the Outside:
Wipe the outside of the dispenser with a mild soap and water mixture. Never use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and then dry.
Cleaning the Drip Tray:
The drip tray should be emptied and cleaned regularly. To remove it, pull the tray forward to dislodge it from the guides. Clean it with a mild soap and water mixture. For tough deposits, add vinegar and let it soak. Wash, rinse, and dry thoroughly. To replace, put the grill back on the tray and slide it onto the guides. The drip tray is not dishwasher safe.
Cleaning the Condenser:
Vacuum or sweep away dust from the condenser coils at the back of the dispenser. This will improve cooling and efficiency.
How do I drain the reservoirs of my VITAPUR VWD1006BLP and what should I do when going on vacation?
Drain the reservoirs before and after cleaning, when going on long vacations, or if not using the dispenser for long periods.
Important: Unplug the dispenser before performing this procedure. Dispense hot water until the temperature drops to a safe level to avoid the risk of scalding.
1. Remove the water bottle.
2. Press both dispensing taps until water no longer comes out.
3. Place a bucket beneath the drain valve on the back of the dispenser.
4. Remove the cap and plug from the drain valve and let the water flow into the bucket. Replace the cap and plug when finished. Collect the water in a container, not the drip tray.
5. Replace the water bottle by following the installation instructions.
Going Away on Vacation:
When not using the dispenser for long periods, conserve energy by unplugging it and draining the reservoirs. Follow the “Initial Product Cleaning Procedures” upon your return to restart the dispenser.
Why is my VITAPUR VWD1006BLP leaking?
If your VITAPUR VWD1006BLP is leaking, the drain cap and silicone seal may not be secure. To fix this, ensure the seal is secure in the drain plug and tighten the drain cap.
Why is the water from my VITAPUR VWD1006BLP not hot or cold enough?
If the water is not at the desired temperature, check the following:
• All the water in the tank has been used: Replace with a full bottle and wait 60 minutes for water to cool or 3 minutes for water to heat (after activating the “Kettle” feature button).
• The unit is unplugged: Plug it into the outlet.
• “Kettle” Feature was not activated: Activate the “Kettle” Feature by pressing the button.
• The circuit breaker is tripped or fuse has blown: Reset the breaker or replace the fuse.
• Temperature limit tripped: Allow the hot water tank to cool for approximately 15-30 minutes. The temperature limit thermostat will reset automatically. To operate the hot water system, press the Insta-Hot button.
• Thermostat needs to be adjusted colder: Adjust the thermostat between high (cool) and low (colder) levels to achieve the desired temperature.
What should I do if my VITAPUR VWD1006BLP is not dispensing water?
If your dispenser is not dispensing water, consider these possible causes and solutions:
• Empty water bottle: Replace with a full bottle.
• Mineral deposits clogging tanks: Follow the instructions for cleaning the reservoirs.
• Possible air pocket: Push down on the dispenser buttons to prime the unit.
