1. Carefully remove the unit from the carton and remove all packing material from the unit.

2. Unwind the AC power cord and extend it to its full length.

3. Unwind the FM Antenna wire and extend it to its full length.

4. Place the unit on a stable, level surface, convenient to an AC outlet, out of direct sunlight, and away from sources of excess heat, dust, moisture, or strong magnetic fields.

5. Remove the opaque white plastic stylus cover from the phonograph stylus by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. During this operation, pay attention to the stylus, so you do not damage it.

6. Remove the twist-tie that was used to secure the tone arm during shipment.

7. Release the tone arm lock lever.

8. Plug the AC power cord into an AC outlet.

This unit is designed to operate on 120V 60Hz AC house current only. Operating this system on any other power source may cause damage to the unit, and such damage is not covered by your warranty.

This unit is equipped with a polarized AC plug which has one blade wider than the other. This is a safety feature to reduce the likelihood of electric shock. This plug will only fit into a polarized AC outlet one way. If you find that you cannot insert this plug into your outlet, you may have an outdated non-polarized outlet. You should have the outdated outlet changed by a qualified, licensed electrician. Do not try to defeat this safety feature by filing the wide blade of the plug to make it fit into your outlet.

1. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.

2. Press the AM/FM button to select the AM or FM band.

3. Turn the TUNING control to select the desired station.

4. Adjust the VOLUME control to the desired listening level.

Note: The unit is equipped with a built-in AM ferrite bar antenna. This antenna is located inside the cabinet. If AM reception is weak, rotate the unit slightly to improve AM reception.

The unit is also equipped with an FM wire antenna hanging from the rear cabinet. For best FM reception, this wire should be fully unwound and extended.

1. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.

2. Press the PHONO button.

3. Set the speed selector to the appropriate speed for the record you are playing (33, 45, or 78 RPM).

4. Place your record on the turntable. If you are playing a 45 RPM single, place the 45 RPM adapter on the center spindle.

5. Release the tone arm lock and lift the tone arm using the cue lever.

6. Move the tone arm to the beginning of the record. The turntable will start turning automatically.

7. Lower the tone arm gently onto the record surface by using the cue lever. At the end of the record, the tone arm will return to the rest post and the turntable will shut off.

Note: The stylus on your phonograph is designed to last for approximately 50 hours of playing time with 33 RPM albums, or 45 RPM ‘singles’. If you are playing older 78 RPM records, the useful life of the stylus will be reduced.

To replace the stylus:

1. Raise the tone arm off the turntable and move it to the right, beyond the rest post.

2. Grasp the stylus and pull it down and forward to remove it from the cartridge.

3. Hold the new stylus with your fingertips and insert it by pressing it into the cartridge. Do not press too hard or touch the needle.

4. Clip the stylus onto the cartridge until it clicks into place.

1. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.

2. Press the CD/USB button.

3. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD tray.

4. Place a CD on the tray with the printed side facing up.

5. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to close the tray. The CD player will read the disc information. The display will show the total number of tracks on the CD.

6. Press the PLAY/PAUSE button to start playing the CD. The display will show the current track number being played.

7. Adjust the VOLUME control to the desired listening level.

Note: This unit can also play CD-R and CD-RW discs. However, depending on the recording conditions (disc quality, recording equipment), some CD-R/RW discs may not play. Do not attach any seal or label to either side of the CD disc, as it may cause malfunction.

1. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.

2. Press the TAPE button.

3. Insert a pre-recorded tape into the cassette door. The tape will automatically start playing.

4. To fast forward the tape, press the EJECT/FF button halfway in. To stop fast forwarding and resume play, release the button.

5. To stop the tape and eject it, press the EJECT/FF button all the way in.

You can record from Phono, CD, or Radio to a cassette tape. Ensure you use a good quality blank tape. Do not use Type II (CrO2) or Type IV (Metal) tapes.

1. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.

2. Insert a blank cassette tape into the cassette door.

3. Press the TAPE button on the front panel. The function indicator will glow red.

4. Select the source you want to record from by pressing the PHONO, CD/USB, or AM/FM button.

5. Start playing from the selected source (Phono, CD, or Radio).

6. The recording will start automatically once the source begins to play.

7. To stop recording, press the EJECT/FF button to eject the tape.

You can connect an external audio source like an MP3 player to the AUX IN jack.

1. Plug one end of an audio cable (not included) into the AUX IN jack on the front of the unit.

2. Plug the other end of the cable into the headphone jack of your external audio source.

3. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on, and then press the AUX button.

4. Start to play the device that you plugged into the AUX IN jack. You will hear the audio from your external device through the speakers of the VICTORIA TUNEWRITER III GDI-TW3USB. Adjust the volume accordingly.

For PC Users:

PC running Windows XP, Vista, or 7. The software is not supported by Windows 95/98/ME/2000/NT.

For MAC Users:

MAC OS X 10.4 or later.

1. Insert the included CD into your computer’s CD-ROM drive.

2. The setup screen should appear. If not, go to “My Computer” and double-click the CD-ROM drive (usually D: or E:).

3. The installation wizard will begin. Click “Next” to continue.

4. Read the License Agreement, select “I accept the agreement,” and click “Next.” Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

1. Insert the included software CD into your Mac’s CD drive.

2. Double-click the “Audacity” icon on your desktop.

3. Drag the Audacity folder to your desktop. It is recommended to copy the folder to your desktop for faster performance.

1. Connect the VICTORIA TUNEWRITER III GDI-TW3USB to your computer using the supplied USB cable.

2. Double-click the Audacity icon on your desktop to run the program.

3. Click on “Edit” from the menu and then select “Preferences.”

4. In the Preferences window, under the “Audio I/O” tab, select “USB Audio CODEC” from the Recording Device drop-down menu. Ensure the Channels are set to “2 (Stereo).” Check the box for “Software Playthrough (Play new track while recording it).” Click OK.

1. Connect the VICTORIA TUNEWRITER III GDI-TW3USB to your Mac using the supplied USB cable.

2. Double-click the Audacity icon to run the program.

3. Click on “Audacity” from the menu and then select “Preferences.”

4. In the Preferences window, select “USB Audio CODEC” from both the Playback Device and Recording Device drop-down menus. Ensure the Channels are set to “2 (Stereo).” Check the box for “Software Playthrough (Play new track while recording it).” Click OK.

A. Setting up the device for recording:

1. In the Audacity software, go to the transport menu and select “Sound Activated Recording.” The “Sound Activated Recording” option should now be checked.

2. Slide the input level to a lower setting, about 0.1-0.2. This will ensure that the recording is not started by ambient room noise.

B. Recording:

1. To begin recording, click the red “Record” button in the upper left corner of the Audacity screen.

2. Start playing the record on your VICTORIA TUNEWRITER III GDI-TW3USB. You will see the sound waves appearing on the screen, indicating that it is recording.

3. If the waveform is too small, adjust the input volume slider next to the microphone icon. If the waveform is distorted, adjust the input volume slider down.

4. When your album is finished playing, click the yellow “Stop” button.

5. To listen to your recording, click the green “Play” button.

C. Exporting the files to WAV format:

1. Once you have finished recording and editing, you need to save your files to the computer. Click on “File” in the menu bar and select “Export As WAV.”

2. You will be prompted to name your file and choose a save location. The default location is the Desktop.

The Audacity software does not create MP3 files directly, but uses a freely available library called LAME. You must download and install LAME.

1. Open the included CD and double-click the folder “For PC”. Then double-click the “LAME_for_Audacity_on_Windows” folder.

2. Double-click the file “Lame_v3.98.2_for_windows.exe”.

3. Follow the installation wizard by clicking “Next”.

4. The default installation folder is “C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity”. Click “Install”.

5. After installation, click “Finish”.

1. Open the included CD and double-click the folder “For MAC”.

2. Double-click the file “Lame Library v3.98.2 for Audacity on OSX.dmg”.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the LAME library.

After installing the LAME MP3 encoder, you can export your recordings to MP3 format.

1. Click on “File” in the menu bar and choose “Export As MP3.” If Audacity cannot find the LAME file, it will ask for its location.

2. Locate the “lame_enc.dll” file. On Windows, it is typically in “C:\Program Files\Lame for Audacity”. Click “Open” and then “OK”.

3. You will then be prompted to name your file and select a save location. You can also enter album information in this window. Click “OK” to save the file.

Step 1: Setting a label for each song

1. After recording your album, go to “Project” in the menu bar and select “Add Label at Playback Position.” You can also use the shortcut Command + B (for Mac) or Ctrl + B (for Windows).

2. A label track will appear below your audio track. Click the “Play” button to listen to your recording.

3. When you reach the beginning of a song, press Command + B or Ctrl + B. A new label will be added.

4. Type the name of the song in the text box. Repeat this process for each song on your recording.

5. When you are finished labeling, click the “Stop” button.

Step 2: Exporting the tracks

1. Go to the “File” menu and select “Export Multiple.”

2. In the “Export Multiple” window, choose the export format (WAV or MP3) and the destination folder. Make sure “Split files based on: Labels” is selected. Click “Export.” The tracks will now be exported as individual files to your chosen folder.

If there is no power, please check the following:

1. The Power Cord is not connected to the wall outlet. Make sure to securely plug the power cord into a known live AC wall outlet.

2. The unit is not turned on. Press the POWER button to turn the unit on.

If there is no sound, check these possible causes:

1. The Volume is set to minimum. Rotate the VOLUME knob clockwise to increase the volume.

2. Headphones are connected. Disconnect the headphones from the Headphones jack.

If the turntable is not spinning, it could be due to one of the following:

1. The unit is not in PHONO function. Press the PHONO button to select the phonograph function.

2. The Tone arm is still in the armrest. Lift the tone arm from its rest and move it towards the record.

If the sound from the turntable is distorted, the stylus may be dirty or worn out.

Clean the stylus with a stylus brush. If the stylus is worn out, you will need to replace it.

If the CD will not play, please check the following:

1. The unit is not in CD function mode. Press the CD/USB button to select the CD function.

2. The CD is inserted upside down. Make sure the CD is inserted with the label side facing up.

3. The CD is dirty. Clean the CD with a soft cloth.

4. The CD is scratched. Try playing a different CD.

5. The laser lens is dirty. Use a CD lens cleaner to clean the lens.
