To install the SIM and an optional microSD card on your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8, follow these steps:

1. Insert the removal tool into the hole on the SIM card/Memory card tray, and then push until the tray pops out. Exercise care when using the removal tool.

2. Place the SIM card on the tray. Make sure the card’s gold contacts face down into the device and that the card is positioned as shown in the diagram.

3. Place the memory card on the tray with the gold contacts facing down.

4. Slide the SIM card/Memory card tray back into the slot.

Note: To maintain the water- and dust-resistant features of your device, ensure the tray is securely inserted prior to any exposure to liquids.

Your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 is powered by a rechargeable Li-Ion battery. A USB charger is included. For the fastest charging times, use the Adaptive Fast Charger that came with your device.

1. Insert the USB cable into the USB charger/Accessory port on the bottom of the device.

2. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the charging head.

3. Plug the charging head into a standard outlet.

4. When charging is complete, unplug the charging head from the outlet and remove the USB cable from the device.

Caution: Use only charging devices and batteries approved by Samsung. Using other accessories may invalidate your warranty and cause damage. You should also dry the inside of the charging port before inserting a power connector.

If your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 heats up while charging, follow these steps:

1. Disconnect the charger from the device and close any running apps.

2. Wait for the device to cool down, and then begin charging it again.

If the lower part of the device overheats, check for damage to the connected USB cable. Replace a damaged USB cable with a new Samsung-approved one. If using a wireless charger, do not place foreign materials between the device and the charger.

To turn the device on:

Press and hold the Power key until the device turns on.

To turn the device off:

1. Press and hold the Power key until the Device options menu is displayed.

2. Tap Power off, and confirm if prompted.

If your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 stops responding to taps or finger gestures and you cannot turn it off, you can restart it by pressing and holding the Power key and the Volume down key at the same time for more than seven seconds.

By default, the device locks automatically when the screen times out.

To lock the device:

Press the Power key.

To unlock the device:

Press the Power key or double-tap the Home area, and then drag your finger across the screen. The default screen lock is Swipe. You can choose a more secure screen lock in the device settings.

When you sign in to a Google Account on your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8, Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is activated. FRP is a security feature that prevents other people from using your device if it is reset to factory settings without your permission. For example, if your device is lost or stolen and a factory data reset is performed, only someone with your Google Account username and password can use the device.

To enable FRP: Adding a Google Account to your device automatically activates the feature.

To disable FRP: You must remove all Google Accounts from the device. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps, then tap Settings > Accounts > Google. Select the account you want to remove, tap More options, and then Remove account.

You can use Smart Switch™ to transfer contacts, photos, and other content from your old device to your new VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8. You can also use the included USB connector to copy content quickly without installing the Smart Switch app.

1. Select Smart Switch during the initial device setup. Alternatively, from a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps > Settings > Backup and reset > Smart Switch.

2. Follow the prompts and select the content you wish to transfer.

Note: The USB option requires the other device to be set to Media device (MTP). Ensure your battery is fully charged as this process can increase battery consumption.

You can access and set up your voicemail from a Home screen on your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Phone, and then touch and hold the 1 key.

3. Follow the tutorial to create a password, record a greeting, and record your name.

You can access the Notification panel from any Home screen to manage your notifications.

1. Drag the Status bar down to display the Notification panel.

2. Swipe down the list to see notification details.

– To open an item, tap it.

– To clear a single notification, drag the notification left or right.

– To clear all notifications, tap Clear all.

3. Drag upward from the bottom of the screen or tap the Back key to close the Notification panel.

You can also open or close the Notification panel by swiping up or down on the fingerprint sensor. To enable this, go to Settings > Advanced features > Finger sensor gestures and tap On/Off.

Use the following motions and gestures to navigate your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8:

Tap: Lightly tap an item to select or launch it.

Double-Tap: Lightly tap an item twice to select it, or double-tap an image to zoom in or out.

You can enter text using the QWERTY Samsung Keyboard. To customize it:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

Here you can configure options such as:

– Predictive text: Enable word suggestions that match your text entries. The keyboard can learn your personal writing style to improve accuracy.

You can also touch and hold the Options key on the keyboard to access Voice input, the Clipboard, Emoticons, One-handed keyboard, and Keyboard settings.

To use your face to unlock your device, you must first set a pattern, PIN, or password. Note that face recognition is less secure than these other methods.

To register a face:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Face recognition.

3. Follow the prompts to register your face. Ensure you are in a well-lit area and the camera lens is clean.

To manage Face Recognition options:

Navigate to the same settings menu to access options like:

– Remove face data: Delete existing faces.

– Face unlock: Enable or disable face recognition security.

– Face unlock when screen turns on: Unlock your phone with face recognition as soon as the screen turns on.

To use the fingerprint scanner, you must first set a pattern, PIN, or password. You can register up to three fingerprints.

To register a fingerprint:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Fingerprint scanner.

3. Follow the prompts to register your fingerprint.

To manage Fingerprint Verification options:

In the Fingerprint scanner menu, you can:

– Rename or delete a fingerprint.

– Add another fingerprint.

– Enable Samsung Pass to access online accounts.

– Verify your Samsung account identity.

– Enable or disable Fingerprint unlock.

To use the iris scanner to unlock your device, you must first set a pattern, PIN, or password. For best results, perform the setup process indoors and remove glasses or contact lenses.

To register your irises:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Lock screen and security > Iris scanner.

3. Follow the prompts to register your irises.

To manage Iris Verification options:

In the Iris scanner menu, you can:

– Remove iris data.

– Choose a preview screen mask.

– Enable or disable Iris unlock.

Multi Window allows you to use multiple applications at the same time in a split-screen view. Not all apps support this feature.

3. You can enable ‘Use Recents button’ to open apps in split-screen view from the recent apps list.

To use Multi Window:

2. Tap two apps that support Multi window to open them in split screen view. Recently used apps that support the feature will have a Multi window icon in their title bar.

While in Multi Window view, you can tap the Window controls in the middle of the border to snap windows, switch window locations, open in a pop-up view, or close an app.

Emergency mode conserves your device’s remaining power in an emergency situation by restricting application usage, turning off mobile data when the screen is off, and turning off connectivity features like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

To activate Emergency Mode:

1. Press and hold the Power key to display the Device options window.

2. Tap Emergency mode.

3. Read and agree to the Terms and conditions if it’s your first time, then tap Turn on.

To turn off Emergency Mode:

From the Emergency mode Home screen, tap More options > Turn off Emergency mode.

While in Emergency mode, you have access to features like Flashlight, Emergency alarm, Message my location, Phone, and making an Emergency call.

The Edge screen provides useful tools and shortcuts. To view Edge panels, swipe the Edge panel handle from the edge of the screen to the center.

To configure Edge panels:

1. Open the Edge screen, then tap the Edge panel settings icon.

2. Here you can enable or disable panels, edit them, download more, and reorder them. You can also change the handle settings (position, size, transparency).

Edge Screen Features include:

– Apps Edge: Add up to ten app shortcuts.

– People Edge: Quickly communicate with contacts from your My people list.

– Smart Select: Capture an area of the screen as an image or GIF.

– Edge Lighting: Sets the Edge screen to light up for calls or notifications when the phone is face down.

– Quick Reply: Reject an incoming call with a preset text message by placing your finger on the heart rate sensor.

– Swipe left to add an effects filter.

Record Videos:

1. Open the Camera app.

2. Aim the camera at your subject, then tap the Record button.

3. During recording, you can tap Capture to take a picture, Pause to pause, and Stop to end the recording.

You can capture an image of your screen on the VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 using a couple of methods. The screenshot will be saved in a Screenshots folder in the Gallery app.

Button Method:

From any screen, press and hold the Power and Volume down keys at the same time.

Gesture Method:

You can enable ‘Palm swipe to capture’ in the settings. Once enabled, capture a screenshot by swiping the edge of your hand across the screen, from side to side, keeping in contact with the screen. To enable this, go to Settings > Advanced features > Palm swipe to capture.

You can make a call from your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 in several ways:

Using the Dialer:

1. From a Home screen, tap Phone.

2. Enter a number on the keypad and tap Call.

From Contacts:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps > Contacts.

2. Swipe your finger across a contact to the right to call the contact. (This feature must be enabled in Settings > Advanced features > Swipe to call or send messages).

From Recents:

1. From a Home screen, tap Phone.

2. Tap Recents. A list of recent calls is displayed.

3. Tap a contact, and then tap Call.

When you receive a call on your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8:

To Answer a Call: On the incoming call screen, drag the Answer icon to the right.

To Decline a Call: On the incoming call screen, drag the Decline icon to the left to reject the call and send it to your voicemail.

To Decline with a Message: On the incoming call screen, drag Send message upward and select a message.

If you are using an app when a call comes in, a pop-up screen will be displayed with options to Answer or Decline.

Wi-Fi Calling lets your device make and receive voice and video calls over a Wi-Fi Internet connection. You must activate Advanced Calling first.

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Advanced Calling.

3. Tap Activate Wi-Fi Calling.

4. Enter a valid emergency address. This will be used whenever an emergency call is placed over Wi-Fi. Once the address is saved successfully, Wi-Fi Calling is turned on.

Note: You must be connected to a Wi-Fi network for this feature to work.

You can activate Mobile Hotspot to allow other devices to use your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8’s Internet connection. Note that you must have a tethering plan on your service account.

Turn on Mobile Hotspot:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Mobile hotspot and tethering > Mobile hotspot.

3. Tap the switch to turn Hotspot on.

Connect a Device to Your Hotspot:

1. On the other device, activate Wi-Fi.

2. Scan for Wi-Fi hotspots and select your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8 from the list.

3. Enter your device’s Mobile hotspot password on the target device to connect.

You can change the password and other settings in the Mobile hotspot settings menu.

You can configure various sound and vibration settings on your VERIZON SAMSUNG GALAXY S8.

A factory data reset will erase ALL data from your device and reset it to factory defaults. This action is permanent. Any data on an external SD card is not affected. Before resetting, verify you have backed up all important information.

Note: If Factory Reset Protection (FRP) is active, you will need your Google Account credentials to regain access after the reset.

To reset your device:

1. From a Home screen, swipe up to access Apps.

2. Tap Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset.

3. Tap Reset and follow the prompts to perform the reset.

4. When the device restarts, follow the prompts to set it up again.

Accessibility services are special features that make using the device easier for those with certain physical disabilities. To access them, go to Settings > Accessibility.

Vision:

Features to assist with visual aspects, including Voice Assistant for spoken feedback, screen zoom, high contrast fonts/keyboard, and color adjustment.

Hearing:
