How does the VALUE VP2120 vacuum pump work?

The VALUE VP2120 is a double-stage, direct-coupled, rotary-vane vacuum pump. The rotor is mounted eccentrically in the pump cylinder and has two vanes. As the motor drives the rotor clockwise, the vanes divide the pump chamber into compartments that change in size.

1. Suction: One chamber expands, sucking air in from the system.

2. Transmission: The trapped air is transferred to the next stage.

3. Compression & Exhaust: Another chamber compresses the air and exhausts it. This work cycle repeats continuously to achieve a vacuum.

As a double-stage pump, the gas exhausted from the first stage is drawn into the second (low vacuum) stage, which then compresses and exhausts it to the atmosphere. This allows the pump to achieve a higher ultimate vacuum.

Installation Procedure:

• The pump should be set up on a flat and firm surface. Oblique installation may result in vibration, high noise, or damage.

• When connecting the VALUE VP2120 to a vacuum system, place the pump horizontally on its casters.

How do I add oil to the VALUE VP2120?

1. Open the oil fill plug.

2. Add the recommended high speed vacuum oil according to the technical data (0.9~1.5 L for the VP2120).

3. For the first time, add oil to the recommended oil level, which is visible in the sight glass between the MIN and MAX marks. The ideal level is around 80% of the sight glass height.

4. The pump must be switched off before adding any oil.

Note: Using oil other than the recommended VALUE VPO series oil may cause unstable performance and affect the pump’s lifespan. Excessive or insufficient oil will decrease performance or cause malfunction.

How do I connect the electrical supply to the VALUE VP2120?

Single-Phase Motor:

For the single-phase VALUE VP2120, the power supply cable, switch, and overload protector are all connected. The direction of rotation is fixed. The pump can be directly connected to a single-phase power supply using the provided cable and plug. The motor is protected by a thermal overload protector.

Three-Phase Motor:

1. Open the junction box cover.

2. Connect the pump using an appropriately rated cable and a suitably rated motor protection switch. The current rating must match the motor nameplate.

3. Check if the motor rotation direction matches the arrowhead on the motor. If it is incorrect, immediately cut the power and interchange any two of the three phase connections (e.g., W1, U1, V1) to correct the rotation.

4. Motor Direction Test: Open the inlet and exhaust ports. Place a slip of paper about 50mm above the exhaust port. Briefly switch the motor on and off. If the paper slip is pushed upward, away from the exhaust port, the direction is correct.

What are the requirements for connecting the VALUE VP2120 to a vacuum system?

• The connecting lines between the pump and the vacuum system should be as short as possible, with minimal corners.

• The diameter (DN) of the connecting line should be the same as the pump’s intake port.

• Check the inlet port filter regularly and keep it clean.

• The exhaust line should preferably be installed with a downward slope to prevent condensate from flowing back into the pump and contaminating the oil. If the line has an upward slope, a condensate trap must be installed.

• Periodically drain condensed oil from the exhaust pipe to prevent blockage.

• A vacuum-tight connection is essential. Perform a leak check on the connection between the pipe and flange to ensure the pump can attain its ultimate vacuum.

• Never operate the pump with a blocked or constricted exhaust line.

How do I operate the VALUE VP2120?

Before Operating:

• Ensure the exhaust line is unblocked.

• Check that the oil capacity is suitable.

• Verify the running direction of the motor is correct.

• Ensure the motor is well grounded.

• Check that the power supply matches the pump’s specifications.

Operating with Non-condensable Gases:

When pumping permanent (non-condensable) gases, the gas ballast valve knob should be in the switched-off position (Arrow C). Opening the gas ballast may cause the ultimate pressure to rise (lower vacuum).

Operating with Condensable Gases:

If the system contains a small amount of condensable gas, open the gas ballast valve (Arrow I or II). This allows the pump to handle the condensable gas effectively. Once the system pressure has been reduced to a certain value, close the gas ballast valve for normal operation.

After Operation:

If the pump was operated at a low temperature, condensable gas may dissolve in the oil. To prevent this, do not switch off the pump immediately. Instead, keep the pump running for about 30 minutes with the gas ballast valve open and the intake line sealed. This will help remove dissolved gases from the oil.

How do I switch off the VALUE VP2120 and prepare it for long-term storage?

Normal Switching Off:

Under normal circumstances, the pump can be switched off directly. The inner anti-suckback valve will automatically switch off the air intakes, keeping the vacuum system clean.

Long-Term Storage:

If the VALUE VP2120 will be stopped for a long time, cover the inlet and exhaust ports to prevent dust from contaminating the pump.

How do I maintain the oil in my VALUE VP2120?

Checking Oil Level:

During operation, the oil level must always be visible between the Max and Min marks in the sight glass. Add oil if the level is below Min, and discharge oil if it is above Max. The recommended liquid height is best.

Checking Oil Quality:

Normally, the oil should be clear and transparent. If the oil darkens or becomes cloudy, it should be changed.

When to Change Oil:

• Change the oil if it contains a mass of liquid, organic solvents, or corrosive gases.

• Change the oil if the pump’s ultimate pressure declines over time.

• For the first usage of a new pump, the oil should be changed after the first 100 operating hours.

• It is recommended to change the oil every 2000 operating hours for normal, clean operation.

Oil Change Procedure:

1. Always perform an oil change when the pump is switched off and has cooled down to below 50°C. Wear suitable protective clothing.

2. Remove the oil drain plug and let the used oil drain into a suitable receptacle.

3. When the oil flow stops, screw the drain plug back in. Briefly switch on the pump for a maximum of 10 seconds, then switch it off. This will expel residual oil.

4. Remove the oil drain plug again and drain the remaining oil.

5. Screw the oil drain plug back in. Check the O-ring and replace it if necessary.

6. Remove the oil filling plug and fill with fresh oil to the correct level.
