What are the safety precautions for installing or servicing the TOSHIBA RAS-05BAV-E?

The following safety precautions should be observed:

General Public Use: Power supply cord of the outdoor unit shall be more than 1.5 mm2 (H07RN-F or 60245IEC66) polychloroprene sheathed flexible cord.

Refrigerant: This air conditioner adopts the new HFC refrigerant (R410A) which does not destroy the ozone layer. R410A is affected by impurities such as water, oxidizing membrane, and oils. The working pressure is approx. 1.6 times that of R22. Ensure water, dust, former refrigerant, or refrigeration machine oil does not enter the cycle.

Electrical: To disconnect the appliance from the main power supply, it must be connected to a circuit breaker or a switch with a contact separation of at least 3 mm. Turn off the main power supply switch or breaker before unit maintenance.

Installation: Do not install near concentrations of combustible gas or gas vapors. Place the unit more than 2 meters away from heat sources. When moving the unit, be careful not to mix air or other gases into the refrigeration circuit to prevent high pressure and rupture.

High Voltage: High voltage circuits are incorporated. Be careful to do the check service, as electric shock may be caused in case of touching parts on the P.C. board by hand.

5/8 15.88 1.00

What is the correct tightening torque for flare connections on the TOSHIBA RAS-05BAV-E?

Incorrect tightening torque may cause gas leakage or crack the flare nut. Comply with the following values:

Nominal diameter Outer diameter (mm) Tightening torque N•m (kgf•cm)
1/4 6.35 14 to 18 (140 to 180)
3/8 9.52 33 to 42 (330 to 420)

How do I perform the air purge (evacuation) during installation of the TOSHIBA RAS-05BAV-E?

Evacuate the air in the connecting pipes and in the indoor unit using a vacuum pump. Do not use the refrigerant in the outdoor unit.

1. Connect the charge hose from the manifold valve to the service port of the gas side packed valve.

2. Connect the charge hose to the port of the vacuum pump.

3. Open fully the low pressure side handle of the gauge manifold valve.

4. Operate the vacuum pump to start evacuating. Perform evacuating for about 15 minutes if the piping length is 20 meters (assuming a pump capacity of 27 liters per minute). Confirm that the compound pressure gauge reading is -101 kPa (-76 cmHg).

5. Close the low pressure side valve handle of the gauge manifold.

6. Open fully the valve stem of the packed valves (both side of Gas and Liquid).

7. Remove the charging hose from the service port.

8. Securely tighten the caps on the packed valves.

How do I recharge the refrigerant for the TOSHIBA RAS-05BAV-E?

When it is necessary to recharge refrigerant, charge the specified amount of new refrigerant according to the following steps:

1. Recover the refrigerant and check no refrigerant remains in the equipment.

2. Connect the charge hose to the packed valve service port at the outdoor unit’s gas side.

3. Connect the charge hose to the vacuum pump adapter.

4. Open fully both packed valves at liquid and gas sides.

5. Place the handle of the gauge manifold Low in the fully opened position, and turn on the vacuum pump’s power switch. Evacuate the refrigerant in the cycle.

6. When the compound gauge’s pointer indicates -0.1 Mpa (-76 cmHg), place the handle Low in the fully closed position and turn off the vacuum pump.

7. Keep the status for 1 to 2 minutes to ensure the pointer does not return.

8. Set the refrigerant cylinder to the electronic balance, connect the hose, and charge liquid refrigerant.

Note: Never charge refrigerant exceeding the specified amount. Charge refrigerant bit by bit in COOL mode if the full amount cannot be charged at once. Do not carry out additional charging (topping off) as it changes the composition of R410A.

How does the Auto Restart Function work on the TOSHIBA RAS-05BAV-E?

The Auto Restart Function allows the unit to restart operating with the set operating conditions in the event of a power supply accidental shutdown. The operation will resume without warning three minutes after power is restored. This function is not set when shipped from the factory.

To Set: Press the [RESET] button located in the center of the front panel continuously for three seconds. The unit receives the signal and beeps three times. (If the unit is on standby, the green indicator flashes for 5 seconds. If operating, the green indicator flashes for 5 seconds).

To Cancel: Repeat the setting procedure. Press the [RESET] button for more than three seconds. The unit beeps three times.

How does the Self-Cleaning function work on the TOSHIBA RAS-05BAV-E?

The Self-Cleaning operation minimizes the growth of mold and bacteria by running the fan to dry the inside of the air conditioner.

Operation: When the cooling or dry operation shuts down, the unit automatically starts the Self-Cleaning operation. The louver opens slightly, and the indoor fan operates continuously at 500 rpm.

Duration: If the unit ran for 10 minutes or longer in Cooling/Dry mode, the self-cleaning runs for 30 minutes. If it ran for less than 10 minutes, no self-cleaning is performed.

To Stop: Press the start/stop button on the remote controller twice during the Self-Cleaning operation.

How do I set the Remote Controller A or B selection for the TOSHIBA RAS-05BAV-E?
