When selecting a location for your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E, please adhere to the following safety warnings and cautions:

WARNING

• Install the air conditioner at a strong enough place to withstand the weight of the unit. If the strength is not enough, the unit may fall down, resulting in injury.

• Install the air conditioner at a height of 2.5 m or more from the floor. If you insert your hands or other objects directly into the unit while the air conditioner operates, it is dangerous because you may come into contact with a revolving fan or active electricity.

CAUTION

• Do not install in a location where flammable gas leaks are possible. If gas leaks and accumulates around the unit, it may ignite and cause a fire.

• When an outdoor unit using R32 refrigerant is combined with the indoor unit, pay attention to the floor area of the room to be installed. Indoor units cannot be installed in rooms with a floor area less than the minimum floor area. For details, follow the Installation Manual for the outdoor unit.

To ensure proper performance and longevity of your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E, avoid installing it in the following places:

• A place exposed to air with high salt content (seaside area), or a place exposed to large quantities of sulfide gas (hot spring). Special protective measures are needed if used in these places.

• A restaurant kitchen where a lot of oil is used or a place near machines in a factory. Oil adhering to the heat exchanger and resin parts may reduce performance, generate mist or dew drops, or deform or damage resin parts.

• Places where iron or other metal dust is present. If dust adheres to or collects on the interior of the air conditioner, it may spontaneously combust and start a fire.

• A place where organic solvent is used nearby.

• A place close to a machine generating high frequency.

• A place where noise of the outdoor unit is easily transmitted.

• A place with poor ventilation.

• A place where any high-frequency appliances (including inverter devices, private power generators, medical equipment, and communication equipment) and inverter-type fluorescent light is installed, as it may cause malfunctions.

• A place exposed to direct sunlight if using a wireless remote, as signals may not be received correctly.

• A place near a door or window exposed to humid outside air, as dew dropping may form.

• A place where special spray is used frequently.

Also, do not use the air conditioner for special purposes such as preserving food, precision instruments, or art objects, or where breeding animals or growing plants are kept, as this may degrade the quality of preserved materials.

The installable ceiling height for the TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E varies by model type. For the MMU-UP0051 to UP0121 types, the maximum ceiling height is 2.7 meters. For the MMU-UP0151 to UP0181 types, it is up to 3.5 meters. When the ceiling height exceeds the standard distance, warm air may have difficulty reaching the floor. In such cases, it is necessary to change the high ceiling setting.

The following table lists the possible ceiling heights and the required settings:

When high ceiling (1) or (3) is used with 4-way blowing, a draft may be recognized due to a drop in discharge temperature.

To check that water is drained properly and does not leak from the connecting parts of the pipes on your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E, follow these steps:

1. Before installing the ceiling panel, use a pitcher or hose to pour water (1500 to 2000 cc) into the discharge port. Pour the water gradually to avoid it spreading on the motor of the drain pump.

2. Insert the leading part of the hose between the heat exchanger and the drain pan, then bend it downward to pour the water.

3. After the electrical work is finished, you can pour water during COOL mode operation to test.

4. If electrical work is not yet finished, pull out the float switch connector (CN34: Red) from the electrical control box and check draining by plugging the single-phase 208V to 240V power to the terminal blocks (L) and (N). This will operate the drain pump motor. CAUTION: Never apply 208V to 240V to terminals (Uv(U1)), (Uv(U2)), (A), or (B), as this will cause a P.C. board trouble.

5. Test the water drain while checking the operation sound of the drain pump motor. If the sound changes from continuous to intermittent, the water is normally drained.

6. After the check, reconnect the float switch connector if it was removed.

For the TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E, which uses R32 or R410A refrigerant, the pressure is higher than that of R22 refrigerant. Therefore, you must use a torque wrench to tighten the flare pipe connecting sections to the specified tightening torque. Incorrect connections may cause a gas leak and trouble with the refrigeration cycle. Use two wrenches to connect the indoor unit pipe.

Use the tightening torque levels listed in the following table:

To change the settings on your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E, you must use a wired remote controller. The settings cannot be changed using only a wireless remote controller. Be sure to stop the air conditioner before making settings.

Follow this basic procedure:

1. Push and hold the menu button and [✔] setting button simultaneously for 10 seconds or more. After a while, the display flashes and “ALL” is displayed as the indoor unit number.

2. Each time the [▽] [▲] setting button is pushed, the indoor unit numbers in the group control will change. The fan of the selected indoor unit will run to help you confirm which unit you are setting.

3. Push the OFF timer button to confirm the selected indoor unit.

4. Push the menu button to make the Code No. [**] flash. Change the Code No. using the [▽] [▲] setting buttons.

5. Push the menu button again to make the Set data [****] flash. Change the Set data using the [▽] [▲] setting buttons.

6. Push the OFF timer button to complete the setup for that code.

7. When all settings for the selected unit have been completed, push the ON/OFF button to determine the settings. “SETTING” will flash, then the display content will disappear, and the air conditioner will enter the normal stop mode.

To change settings of another indoor unit, repeat the procedure from step 1.

If your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E is installed on a ceiling higher than the standard height, you need to make the high-ceiling setting for fan speed adjustment. Using the wired remote controller:

1. Follow the basic setting procedure (steps 1-6).

2. For the CODE No. in step 4, specify [5d].

3. For the SET DATA in step 5, select the appropriate data from the “Height list of ceiling possible to be installed” table in the manual.

Alternatively, for a remote controller-less setup, you can change the setting with the DIP switch on the receiver section P.C. board inside the indoor unit:

To restore factory defaults, set both SW501-1 and SW501-2 to OFF, connect a wired remote controller, and set the data of CODE No. [5d] to “0000”.

You can change the lighting time of the filter sign (notification for filter cleaning) on your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E according to the installation condition. Using the wired remote controller:

1. Follow the basic setting procedure (steps 1-6).

2. For the CODE No. in step 4, specify [01].

3. For the SET DATA in step 5, select the desired lighting time from the following table:

If it is difficult to obtain satisfactory heating with your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E due to the installation location or room structure, you can raise the detection temperature for heating. Also, consider using a circulator to circulate heat air near the ceiling. To change the setting using the wired remote controller:

1. Follow the basic setting procedure (steps 1-6).

2. For the CODE No. in step 4, specify [06].

3. For the SET DATA in step 5, select the shift value of detection temperature from the table below:

You can select the swing type of the louver for your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E. Using the wired remote controller:

1. Follow the basic setting procedure (steps 1-7).

2. In step 4, specify [F0] for the CODE No.

3. In step 5, select the desired swing type from the following table:

• Dual swing: Louvers 01 and 03 are directed and swing in one direction, while louvers 02 and 04 are directed and swing in the opposite direction.

• Cycle swing: The four louvers swing independently at respective timings.

CAUTION: Do not set the swing SET DATA to “0000”, as this may cause a failure of the louvers.

You can lock the position of individual louvers (four directions) on your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E. Using the wired remote controller:

1. Follow the basic setting procedure (steps 1-7).

2. For the CODE No. in step 4, specify [F1], [F2], [F3], or [F4] corresponding to the louver you wish to lock.

3. In step 5, select the desired fixed position from the SET DATA options 0001 to 0005.

Note: When position (4) or (5) is selected, dew drop may occur during cooling mode. When the setting has been determined, the louver lock icon lights up.

To cancel the louver lock, follow the same procedure but set the wind direction to “0000” for the corresponding louver. The louver lock icon will go out.

Before starting a test run on your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E, ensure the circuit breaker is ON, check for insulation resistance of 1MΩ or more, and verify that the outdoor unit valve is fully open. A forced test run can be executed even if the operation stops due to the thermostat.

Using a Wired Remote Controller:

1. Stop the air conditioner. Push and hold the OFF timer button and [▲] setting button simultaneously for 10 seconds or more. [TEST] will be displayed.

2. Push the ON/OFF button to start.

3. Push the menu button to select the operation mode. Select [Cool] or [Heat] with the [▽] [▲] setting buttons, then push the menu button again (three times) to determine the operation mode. Do not run in any other mode.

4. After the test run, push the OFF timer button to stop. [TEST] will disappear from the display.

Using a Wireless Remote Controller:

1. Turn on the power to the air conditioner and wait for the remote controller to become available (approx. 5 minutes for first-time power-on, 1 minute for subsequent power-ons).

2. Push the ON/OFF button, select [Cool] or [Heat] with the “MODE” button, and then select [HIGH] with the “FAN” button.

3. For a cooling test, set the temperature to 17°C. For a heating test, set it to 30°C.

4. After confirming the “beep” sound, immediately change the temperature (to 18°C for cooling, 29°C for heating).

5. After another “beep”, immediately change the temperature back (to 17°C for cooling, 30°C for heating).

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5. The “Operation”, “Timer”, and “Ready” indicators on the wireless receiver will flash, and the test run will start.

7. Upon completion, push the ON/OFF button to stop the operation.

To clean the air filter on your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E, follow these steps for daily maintenance:

1. Turn off the air conditioner and set the circuit breaker to OFF.

2. Open the air intake grille:

a. Loosen the fixing screw.

b. Slide the fixing bracket toward the inside.

c. Holding the air intake grille, slide the hook in the direction of the arrow and slowly open the grille.

3. Take out the air filter: Push the extrusion of the air filter away from the grille and remove it.

4. Clean the filter with a vacuum cleaner. If the dirt is heavy, clean the air filter using tepid water with a neutral detergent or just water. After cleaning, dry the air filter sufficiently in a shaded place.

5. Mount the air filter back into the grille.

6. Close the air intake grille: Check that the fall-preventive strap is attached to the panel. In the inverse process of opening, firmly attach the hook, fixing bracket, and fixing screw.

7. Set the circuit breaker to ON.

CAUTION: Do not start the air conditioner while the air filter is removed.

Periodic maintenance (once a year) is recommended for your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E to ensure efficient operation. If the unit is operated for 8 hours or more daily, cleaning should be done at least once every 3 months by a professional. The following table lists the recommended checks:

If a problem occurs with your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E, you can check the troubleshooting history (up to 4 incidents) using the wired remote controller. This can be done during operation or when stopped.

1. Push the OFF timer button for over 10 seconds. The indicators will appear, indicating the troubleshooting history mode has been entered. The temperature indicator will show “[01: Order of troubleshooting history]”. The OFF timer indicator will alternately show the [check code] and the [indoor Unit No.] in which the problem occurred.

2. Each time the setting button is pushed, the recorded troubleshooting history is displayed in sequence from [01] (newest) to [04] (oldest).

3. After you have finished checking, push the ON/OFF button to return to the regular mode.

CAUTION: In the troubleshooting history mode, DO NOT push the Menu button for over 10 seconds, as doing so will delete the entire troubleshooting history of the indoor unit.

A Notice Code is a function on your TOSHIBA MMU-UP0091MHP-E (in TU2C-Link communication) that indicates when the outdoor or indoor unit detects a condition requiring caution or maintenance. A spanner mark (Notice code mark) will appear on the wired remote controller. The air conditioner can still operate normally. To check the Notice Code Number:

1. Stop the operation of the air conditioner and push the Menu button and OFF timer button at the same time for 10 seconds or more.

2. The indoor unit number is displayed at the bottom left. Change it with the [▽] [▲] buttons and push the OFF timer button to confirm.

3. The history number is displayed in the center, and the Notice code No. is displayed in the lower left. You can switch the history (a maximum of 5 notice codes) with the [▽] [▲] setting button.

4. Push the ON / OFF button to return to the operation stop screen.
