If the TETRA WHISPER EX shows any sign of abnormal water leakage, immediately unplug it from the power source.

Carefully examine the TETRA WHISPER EX after installation and unplug it if there is water on parts not intended to get wet.

If the plug or outlet gets wet, do not unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker that supplies power to the TETRA WHISPER EX. Once the power has been disconnected, unplug the cord and examine it for the presence of water in the outlet.

To avoid injury, do not come in contact with moving parts or hot parts of the aquarium system such as heaters, reflectors, or lamp bulbs.

Always unplug the TETRA WHISPER EX from an outlet when it is not in use, before cleaning, and prior to disconnecting or attaching parts.

Never yank the cord to pull the plug from the outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect the TETRA WHISPER EX.

Do not use attachments that are not recommended or sold by the manufacturer as they may cause an unsafe condition for the TETRA WHISPER EX.

Do not install or store the TETRA WHISPER EX where it will be exposed to the weather or to temperatures below freezing.

If an extension cord is necessary, use a cord with a rating that matches or exceeds the rating of the TETRA WHISPER EX. A cord rated for fewer amperes or watts than the appliance rating may overheat. Arrange the cord so that it will not trip anybody and will not be pulled.

The TETRA WHISPER EX may have a polarized plug where one blade is wider than the other. This plug will fit in a polarized outlet only one way. If the plug does not fit fully into the outlet, reverse the plug. If it still does not fit, contact a qualified electrician. Never use with an extension cord unless the plug can be fully inserted. Do not attempt to defeat this safety feature.

If the system stops or does not start after a power interruption, follow these steps:

1. Unplug the system and lift it out of the water.

2. Remove the strainer, extension tubes, impeller cover, and magnetic impeller assembly.

3. Examine all parts for debris that could cause blockages.

4. Remove debris from the strainer, extension tubes, and impeller cover by rinsing under cool water.

5. Remove any material that may have twisted around the impeller shaft with a needle or tweezers.

6. Hold the assembly by the ends of its axis and try to spin the magnet. If the magnet does not spin freely, rinse it under a jet of tap water to unlock it.

7. Hold the magnet and try to spin the impeller blades one turn in either direction. If the impeller does not spin freely, rinse under a jet of tap water to unlock it.

8. If rinsing does not free up the magnet or impeller blades, replace the entire assembly.

9. Reassemble system and place it back in the aquarium.

Attach the strainer and extension tubes if necessary so that the strainer will be no closer than 2 inches to the aquarium gravel once the TETRA WHISPER EX is hanging on the aquarium frame.

Ensure the aquarium water is at or above the minimum water level indicated on the motor assembly of the TETRA WHISPER EX.

1. Open the carbon filter access door of the TETRA WHISPER EX and lift the carbon filter carrier.

2. Hold the carrier above the doorway for a few seconds to drain water. Then invert the carrier to a 45 degree angle and carry it to the waste bin.

3. Squeeze the carrier handle to drop the dirty filter cartridge into the waste bin.

4. Insert the clean filter cartridge into the carrier (the blue-colored floss should face the front). Drop the carrier into the system and close the access door.

1. Remove the hood of the TETRA WHISPER EX and remove the Bio-Scrubber.

2. Gently rinse the Bio-Scrubber under cool water to dislodge clogs. Do not use soap or any other cleaner. Do not remove the beneficial bacteria growing on the Bio-Scrubber.

3. Re-insert the Bio-Scrubber and snap the system hood back into place.

No, do not dispose of the Bio-Scrubber unless it is damaged. It is a permanent part of the filtration system and is not meant to be replaced or disturbed. If it becomes clogged as evidenced by restricted water flow or water flowing over the top of the Bio-Scrubber, follow the cleaning procedure.

Be sure to select the proper cartridge carrier for your TETRA WHISPER EX, as they are color-coded to indicate size.
