Unplug from socket when not in use and before cleaning the surface of the appliance. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the surface of the appliance. The appliance, cord, and plug may never be partially or entirely submerged in water or other liquid. Do not operate the appliance with a damaged cord or plug or if the appliance malfunctions or is damaged in any way. Contact your supplier or importer. If the cord is damaged, it must be replaced with a special cord, which is available from the manufacturer or importer. Never attempt to repair the appliance yourself, repair must be carried out by skilled technicians. Return the appliance to the nearest service facility for examination, repair, or adjustment. Place the appliance on a flat surface in a frost-free room. Do not place the appliance on a hot surface, near gas- or electric cookers or in an oven. Do not run the cord across hot surfaces or let it hang over the edge of a table or counter, where it could be pulled on by children. Do not use the appliance for any purpose other than its intended use. Do not touch the hot parts of the appliance, such as the outlet pipe or hotplate.
What should you do before you use the coffee brewer for the first time?
Before using your new coffee brewer for the first time, or if the machine has not been used for some time, it is recommended to first rinse the water receptacle. Fill the coffee brewer with cold water and operate once or twice without any coffee.
What are some additional important safeguards when using the coffee maker?
Do not remove the brew-basket or carafe while brewing. Do not pour any liquids other than water or recommended cleaning product into the water reservoir. Always place the lids in the correct position as shown in the descriptive image. Scalding may occur if any of these parts are removed during brewing cycles. Never run the appliance without the outlet pipe.
What are some guidelines for using the glass jug?
The glass jug is designed for use with this appliance. Do not set a hot jug on a cold surface. Never place the glass jug over an open flame or hot range cook-top or other heat source. Do not use a cracked glass jug or a jug with a loose handle. Do not clean the jug with abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or similar materials. The glass jug is NOT dishwasher safe.
What are some guidelines for using the thermos?
Do not use the thermos for storing dairy products or baby food, as these will curdle if kept for a longer period of time. Do not use for carbonated beverages. Do not transport the thermos in a horizontal or up-side-down position as it can lead to leakage. Use the special transport lid. Do not drink directly from the thermos. Liquid from the carafe may be very hot. Never place the thermos onto a hot/warm cooking ring, gas cooker, or other heat source. Never place the thermos in an oven or microwave. Do not clean the thermos with abrasive cleaners, steel wool, or similar materials. The thermos is NOT dishwasher safe.
What is the purpose of the short power supply cord?
The short power supply cord is provided to reduce risks resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. If an extension cord is used, the marked electrical rating of the extension cord must be at least as great as the rating of the coffee brewer. The extension cord must be a grounding type 3 cord. The extension cord should be arranged so it doesn’t drape over the counter or table top where it can be pulled over by children or tripped over.
What type of cord and plug does this coffee brewer have?
This coffee brewer is equipped with a special cord and plug, which in case of damage should be replaced by a matching cord and plug. This can be obtained from your Moccamaster service point.
What are the environmental recommendations for disposing of coffee filters and grounds?
Please discard the filter and coffee grounds by disposing of them in an organic waste container or compost heap. If not available, you may dispose of filters and grounds in normal household waste.
What are the environmental recommendations for disposing of the appliance?
For environmental concerns, please recycle responsibly. Do not throw away the appliance with the normal household waste, but hand it in at an official collecting point for recycling. By doing this, you help preserve the environment.
What are the different parts of the Moccamaster?
The Moccamaster has a water reservoir lid, a clear cool water reservoir, a float-activated brew function switch, a durable metal housing, a copper heating element, and brews at 92°-96° Celsius. It also has an on/off switch, a 9-hole outlet arm, a brew-basket lid, a brew-basket with an optional automatic drip-stop, and a destratification tube. The Moccamaster also includes a glass carafe or thermal carafe, a single-hole outlet arm (for some models), an independent energy efficient hotplate element, a manual adjust drip-stop switch, and an orange indicator light.
What are the filter holder settings on the Moccamaster CD(T)-Grand?
The Moccamaster CD(T)-Grand filter holder has two settings: Open and Closed.
What are the filter holder settings on the Moccamaster manual-adjust filter holder?
The Moccamaster manual-adjust filter holder has three settings: Open, 1/2 Open, and Closed. Open: For brewing a full pot of coffee, 6-10 cups. This setting manually allows for normal water flow over coffee grounds. 1/2 Open: For brewing a 1/2 pot of coffee (2-5 cups) or for use with brewing tea. This setting manually slows the drip to allow for longer saturation time. Closed: Stops flow of coffee if you want a quick cup before the brew cycle is complete (NOT recommended). This setting manually stops the flow to allow for a longer saturation time. This option will allow for overflow if not watched closely. This setting also stops coffee drips at the end of the brew cycle for emptying the brew-basket.
How does the automatic drip-stop system work?
The filter holder for models KBG, KBGT, CD, CDGT, GCS is equipped with an automatic drip-stop system. The filter holder will close automatically if the coffee pot is removed. For this reason, it is always important to make sure that the jug and filter holder are in the right position.
How does the auto-shut-off system work?
In all models, the main heating element is switched off when the brewing ends. On models provided with an Auto-off switch, the hotplate will be automatically switched off after 40 minutes.
How does the hot-plate temperature switch work?
Glass jug models: The hot-plate temperature switch is explained with a full circle which maintains a holding temperature of 80-85°C for 6-10 cups and a 3/4 circle which maintains the holding temperature for less than 6 cups. Not all models are provided with this selection switch.
How do you lock the footplate in place for thermo brewers?
Tilt the coffee brewer backwards slightly. Hook the footplate’s vertical rim into the cutaway opening, then lower the brewer. The footplate is now locked in place. Place the thermos on the footplate, so it presses the white button on the inner base. The orange warning light will be on to indicate the correct placement of the thermos.
What is the purpose of the mixing lid and Brew-Thru-Lid?
The glass jug with the mixing lid and the “Brew-Thru-Lid” for the thermos makes stirring of the coffee unnecessary before serving, resulting in a warmer, pre-mixed brew. The Brew-Thru-Lid is scientifically designed for minimum heat loss and maintains perfect temperature while brewing. It also mixes coffee automatically while brewing. You can simply brew and pour, do not remove the lid. The Brew-Thru-Lid is also easy to clean.
What are the directions for use of the Moccamaster?
The power switch should be in the off position. Position the multi-hole outlet pipe as shown in the diagram. Attach smoothly to the gasket at the top of the cold water reservoir. Fill the cold water reservoir to the desired level with fresh cold water. Put the cold water reservoir lid back in place. The reservoir is marked with the number of cups. 1/4 liter of water equals 2 cups. Reservoir Grand models have a mark for 1.8 liters of water (15 cups). Place a standard #4 white paper filter into the filter holder. Place a coffee filter 250/110 into the filter holder (1.8 ltr.). Add the appropriate amount of coffee. The ECBC approved standard for the perfect cup is 60 grams of coffee per liter of water, 75 grams for a full 1.25-liter brew. Place the filter holder on the bracket (if present), position the outlet pipe over the center of the filter holder. Slide the manual drip-stop system into the open (normal amounts of coffee) or half-open (small amounts of coffee) position. The filter holder will overflow in a closed position. For K/H models, place the filter holder onto the glass jug. Put the filter holder lid back in place. Scalding may occur if any of these parts are removed during the brew cycle. Place the glass jug, with lid or filter holder, on the hot plate. Place the thermos, with the “Brew-Thru-Lid” in the brew position beneath the filter bracket. The thermos should be placed to depress the white button. It is recommended to rinse the thermos with hot water to prevent loss of temperature. Switch the power switch to the “on” position. For thermos models, the orange light will illuminate when the thermos is placed properly against the white button. For glass jug models with a hot-plate adjustable switch, turn the switch for the hotplate to the highest setting. Turn the switch to the lower setting if you would like to keep smaller amounts of coffee warm for a brief period. The brew process will quickly begin. Water will be brought to a boil, rising through the brewer across the outlet-pipe and into the filter-holder. The brew process is complete in 4-6 minutes, with a temperature of 92-96°C. Dispose of coffee grounds once the brew cycle is complete. For models with adjustable filter-holders, move the slide to the closed position prior to emptying. The brewer should be switched off after use. For thermos models, the heating element is not receiving power unless the water reservoir is filled with water, engaging the float-switch, and the white button is depressed. The only power consumption is at the power switch itself, resulting in a very energy-efficient brewer. For glass jug models, the brewer should be turned off when hot-plate use is no longer desired. Optional Auto-off models will automatically shut off in 40 minutes.
What are the basic cleaning instructions for the Moccamaster?
Before cleaning, remove the plug from the socket. Clean the brewer regularly on the outside with a moist cloth and wipe dry. After each use, hand wash the jug, thermos, and filter holder with mild detergent. Glass jugs or thermos are not dishwasher safe. Coffee oil stains in the thermos may be removed using the special “Coffee server cleaning tablet”, available at Moccamaster dealers and in their web shop. Do not submerge the brewer in any liquid.
How often does the inside of the brewer need to be cleaned?
The brewer needs to be cleaned regularly. If used daily, it needs to be cleaned every two weeks.
How often does the coffee maker need to be descaled?
Your coffee maker must be descaled regularly to maintain optimal performance. When mineral deposits build up in the heating element of your Technivorm Moccamaster, it can clog the water flow and affect the brew temperature and saturation time. If not descaled regularly, the brewer can stop working. Technivorm Moccamaster recommends descaling your brewer every 100 cycles (easily remembered after every box of 100 count filters) or a minimum of every 3 months.
How do you descale the coffee maker?
Use only dedicated descaling products available at your Moccamaster dealer and in their web shop. Fill the water reservoir with a special descaling agent diluted with water according to the directions on the package or with 50% water and 50% household vinegar. Switch on the machine and wait until the liquid has flowed into the pot. Repeat the process two to three times with clean water in order to clean the machine.
What are the anti-frost protection and extended storage guidelines?
Turn the brewer off and remove the electrical plug from the outlet. Remove the multi-hole outlet pipe. Empty any remaining water within the brewer by holding it upside down over the sink. Replace the multi-hole outlet pipe before using the brewer again.
What should you do if the brewer is not working and the lights are not illuminated?
Check to ensure the brewer is plugged into a socket.
What should you do if the power light is on, but the coffee maker is not working?
Place the thermos snugly against the white button at the base. See descaling instructions in the manual to remove mineral build up in heating element.
What should you do if the filter holder is overflowing?
Move the switch on the filter holder to the open position. The manual drip-stop is in the closed position.
What should you do if the thermos is not keeping coffee hot?
Contact the authorized service center for replacement. There may be possible damage to the carafe vacuum seal.
What should you do if the hot plate stays on after brewing is complete?
Manually turn the power switch off. Your brewer has a manual power off switch. Some models have an optional “auto-off” where the power switch shuts off the hot plate.
What should you do if the coffee tastes weak or bitter?
To brew to ECBC standards, use 60 grams of coffee per liter of water. The incorrect amount of coffee may have been used in brewing. Use standard #filter grind coffee. The incorrect grind of coffee may have been used.
What should you do if the brew cycle is taking more than 6 minutes to complete?
See descaling instructions in the manual. The coffee brewer may need to be descaled.
What should you do if water is dripping out very slowly?
See descaling instructions in the manual. The brewer may be clogged with mineral deposits and needs to be descaled.
What should you do if the glass tube in the water reservoir is cloudy?
See descaling instructions in the manual. The brewer needs to be descaled.
What can cause clogging and backing up of water and/or coffee in the filter holder?
Clogging and backing up of water and/or coffee in the filter holder can occur under any or a combination of any of the following conditions: the use of too finely ground coffee, using two or more paper filters, using the gold mesh filter in conjunction with a paper filter, not properly cleaning oils or grounds from the gold mesh filter, or allowing coffee grounds to spill over the filter.
