How do I set up the tripod?
1. Spread the legs.
2. Press down the brace.
3. Release the leg lock levers.
4. Extend the legs to the desired length.
5. Clamp the leg lock levers to fix the legs.
How do I level the tripod?
Adjust the leg length so that the bubble in the level is inside the red circle. (The level is supplied with VCT-80AV and VCT-60AV only.)
How do I mount the video camera on the tripod?
Set the battery pack, cassette, “Memory Stick” or disc, etc., in the video camera before mounting it on the tripod.
1. While pulling the quick shoe release lever to the right, remove the quick shoe.
2. Attach the quick shoe to your video camera. Securely tighten the camera screw. When you attach your video camera, align the video camera boss with the boss hole (a).
3. While pulling the quick shoe release lever to the right, attach the quick shoe to the tripod, and then return the release lever to the left to secure the quick shoe.
4. Connect the A/V remote connecting plug to the A/V remote jack on your video camera. If the cord is too long, clip it to the cord clamper (b).
How do I adjust the height of the tripod?
1. Loosen the elevator stopper.
2. Turn the crank handle to raise or lower the elevator to the desired height. (The crank handle is supplied with VCT-80AV and VCT-60AV only. For VCT-50AV, hold the camera platform to adjust the height.)
3. Tighten the elevator stopper.
How do I perform panning and tilting with the tripod?
Make sure the elevator stopper is securely tightened, then pan/tilt. If it is not tightened enough, the image may shake.
Panning
You can shoot while turning the video camera 360°.
1. Loosen the pan stopper.
2. Move the pan handle to the desired horizontal position to adjust the video camera position.
3. Tighten the pan stopper.
Caution
The camera screw may become loose if you pan suddenly. Check occasionally that it has not become loose.
Tilting
You can shoot with the video camera tilted up or down.
4. Loosen the tilt stopper.
5. Move the pan handle to the desired vertical position to adjust the video camera position.
6. Tighten the tilt stopper.
How can I change the position of the camera platform for vertical shooting?
You can shoot with the video camera in a vertical position. Loosen the camera platform stopper, raise the camera platform to the right, then tighten the camera platform stopper.
Caution
Depending on the center of gravity of the video camera, the camera may not be fixed in a certain position, or the tripod may become unstable.
How do I use the remote control with my video camera?
Read the operating instructions supplied with your video camera as well.
Turning on the power
1. Turn on the power of your video camera, and set it to the standby mode. The POWER/REC lamp (e) on the remote control lights in green.
2. Set the video camera to the moving image or still image mode.
Note
If the standby mode continues for a while, the power turns off automatically. To return to the standby mode, turn “ON” the power with the POWER ON/OFF switch (b) on the remote control.
To record a moving image
Press the START/STOP button (f). The POWER/REC lamp lights in red and recording starts.
To stop recording, press the START/STOP button again. The POWER/REC lamp lights in green and the camera returns to the standby mode.
To record a still image
Press the PHOTO button (c) lightly to check the image, then press it fully.
The START/STOP button and PHOTO button on the remote control work in the same way as the buttons with the same names on your video camera.
Zooming
Tilt the zoom lever (d).
T side (telephoto): The subject appears larger.
W side (wide-angle): The subject appears smaller.
The zoom speed changes depending on the angle you tilt the zoom lever.
Slow zooming
Set the SLOW ZOOM switch (g) to “ON.”
Zooming is fixed at a slow speed regardless of the angle you tilt the zoom lever.
To cancel slow zooming, set the SLOW ZOOM switch to “OFF.”
Notes
The slow zoom speed varies depending on the video camera.
If the POWER/REC lamp flashes in red, a warning is displayed on the screen. Check the display on your video camera.
To display the guide frame (A)
Press the GUIDE FRAME button (a).
A horizontal and vertical guide frame appears on the video camera screen.
Adjust the tripod legs or tilting according to the guide frame.
To cancel the guide frame display, press the GUIDE FRAME button again.
The photo is an image. The actual screen display differs.
The guide frame function is available on video cameras equipped with an A/V remote jack, and on HDR-HC9.
You can also operate the remote control with the following video cameras that are not equipped with an A/V remote jack. However, the guide frame cannot be used except for HDR-HC9.

Turn “OFF” the power with the POWER ON/OFF switch on the remote control.

Insert the A/V remote connecting plug into the A/V remote connecting plug holder (h).
How do I fold the tripod?
1. Remove the video camera from the tripod.
2. Loosen the pan stopper and tilt stopper and fold the pan handle. Return the crank handle to its original position (VCT-80AV/VCT-60AV).
3. Tighten the pan stopper and tilt stopper.
4. Loosen the leg lock levers on the three legs and fold the legs.
5. Clamp the leg lock levers to fix the legs.
What precautions should be taken when carrying the tripod?
Put it in the carrying case.
Caution
Do not carry the tripod with the video camera attached.
What are the precautions for using the tripod?
Mounting and dismounting the video camera
Securely tighten and fix the tilt stopper. Also, do not attach accessories, etc., after mounting the video camera on the camera platform. The camera platform may tilt, causing damage to the video camera.
Cleaning
• If dirty, wipe with a soft cloth moistened with a mild detergent solution, then wipe with a dry cloth.
• After using near the sea, etc., where it may be exposed to sea breeze, wipe thoroughly with a dry cloth.
