The speaker SRS-XB12, with the cap fastened securely, has a water resistant specification of IPX7*1 as specified in “Degree of protection against water immersion” of the IEC60529 “Ingress Protection Rating (IP Code)”, and a dustproof specification of IP6X*2 as specified in “Degrees of protection against solid foreign objects”.

*1 IPX7 (Degree of protection against water immersion): The speaker has been tested to work when immersed in 1 m (3.3 ft) of water for 30 minutes.

*2 IP6X (Degrees of protection against solid foreign objects): The speaker has been tested to continue to block dust after stirring for 8 hours in a testing device which contains dust particles that are up to 75 μm in diameter.

The accessories and operation of the speaker’s unit are not water resistant and dustproof.

The water resistant and dustproof features of the speaker SRS-XB12 are based on measurements under the conditions described herein. Note that malfunctions as a result of water immersion or dust intrusion caused by misuse are not covered by the warranty.

The following will help maintain the water resistant and dustproof performance of the SONY SRS-XB12:

This speaker SRS-XB12 does not have a design that is resistant to water pressure. Do not use it in a location where high water pressure is applied, such as in the shower.

Do not pour high-temperature water or blow hot air from a hair dryer or any other appliance directly onto the speaker. Also, never use the speaker in high-temperature locations such as in a sauna or near a stove.

Handle the cap with care. The cap plays a very important role in the maintenance of the water resistant and dustproof performance. When using the speaker, make sure that the cap is closed completely. Be sure to avoid foreign objects on the rubber seal of the cap when closing it. If the cap is not closed completely, the water resistant and dustproof performance may be impaired, and it may cause a malfunction of the speaker as a result of water or dust entering the speaker unit.

If the speaker SRS-XB12 gets wet, wipe off the water with a soft, dry cloth. Additionally, dry the speaker in an airy place until no moisture remains. If the unit is used in a cold region, be sure to wipe off any water after use. Leave the speaker in a warm place until no moisture remains. If you put the unit in a cool area with water remaining on it, ice may form and cause a malfunction of the speaker.

On safety

Do not use the speaker SRS-XB12 while driving a car or riding a two-wheeled vehicle.

On operation

The unit’s water resistant and dustproof performance is only effective when the cap is securely fastened.

Do not put the speaker SRS-XB12 in hot water or expose it to a hair dryer or any other appliance with high heat.

Do not use or leave the speaker SRS-XB12 in an extremely cold or hot environment (temperature exceeding 50 °C (122 °F), or below 10 °C (14 °F)).

Do not use the speaker SRS-XB12 in a car with the windows closed, especially when it is hot outside.

The speaker SRS-XB12 should be charged within a temperature range of 5 °C to 35 °C (41 °F to 95 °F).

The speaker SRS-XB12 may become hot during charging. This is not a malfunction.

On static electricity

The static electricity accumulated in the body may cause mild tingling in your hands. To minimize this effect, wear natural material clothing.

On the built-in lithium-ion battery

If the operating time becomes substantially short, the built-in battery is nearing the end of its useful life.

The battery has a memory effect, and if it is fully discharged every time, it will last longer.

The battery may become warm during charging.

If the speaker SRS-XB12 is not going to be used for a long time, charge the battery to about half capacity once every 6 months to prevent over discharge.

While the speaker SRS-XB12 is turned on, press the BATT (battery) button. The voice guidance is output from the speaker and the battery level is announced.

When the BATT (battery) button is pressed, the charge indicator (orange) flashes 3 times if the remaining battery is low (10% or less).

The charge indicator (orange) on the SONY SRS-XB12 indicates the following during charging:

On: Charging in progress

Off: Charging complete

If the charge indicator (orange) on the SONY SRS-XB12 flashes slowly, the battery is low, and the speaker will turn off automatically soon.

The SONY SRS-XB12 may cause fire or electric shock if water or dust enters the unit while the cap is open and it is plugged into an AC outlet.

When using the SONY SRS-XB12, make sure the cap is closed completely. If the cap is not closed completely, the water resistant and dustproof performance may be impaired, and it may cause a malfunction of the speaker as a result of water or dust entering the speaker unit.

When the SONY SRS-XB12 unit is wet, do not charge the battery. Refer to “How to care for the unit when wet”.

Use the USB cable supplied with the SONY SRS-XB12 to connect the speaker to a commercially available USB AC adaptor (0.5 A) or to a starting up PC.

Charging is not possible if the SONY SRS-XB12 is connected to a PC that is not running, is in power-saving mode, or is in standby mode. Resume the PC mode before charging.

If the SONY SRS-XB12 is not used for a long time, the battery may become completely discharged, and it may take some time to recharge the battery.

The charging time may differ depending on the temperature of the environment and the battery level.

If the SONY SRS-XB12 is not used for a long time, the battery life may be reduced. It is recommended to periodically recharge the battery (about once every 6 months).
