How do I perform head cleaning on the SONY SDT-S11000?
To clean the heads, follow these instructions:
1. Insert the head cleaning cartridge (DGD 15CL) into the DDS cartridge receptacle. Cleaning starts automatically.
2. After about 10 seconds, cleaning will stop and the cartridge will eject automatically.
One head cleaning cartridge can be used about 90 times. Do not rewind the cleaning cartridge. When you reach the end of the cartridge, dispose of it and buy a new one.
What are the installation steps for the SONY SDT-S11000?
Please follow these steps to install the drive:
1. Switch off the host computer and peripherals before connecting the SCSI cable.
2. Make sure the SCSI connectors are seated properly.
3. If this unit is the last (or only) device on the SCSI bus, make sure to connect a SCSI terminator to the open connection. If another device will be added to the SCSI chain after the SONY SDT-S11000, put a cable from the SONY SDT-S11000 to the device. The end of the SCSI bus must always be terminated.
4. Set the SCSI ID. Wide SCSI allows SCSI addresses from 0 to 15. Each device requires a unique address. The SCSI address of the SONY SDT-S11000 must be different from any other device on the SCSI bus, including the SCSI address of the host.
5. Connect the power cord.
6. Power on the host computer, load the software and the SONY SDT-S11000 is ready for use!
How do I set the SCSI ID on the SONY SDT-S11000?
Before setting the SCSI address, turn off the power by using the POWER switch on the front panel. The SCSI ID is set by the rotary switch on the rear panel. Press the + or – buttons to move the number up or down, respectively.
How do I use the SONY SDT-S11000 for the first time?
1. Press the POWER button on the front panel. The POWER indicator should light, and the STATUS, BUSY and TAPE indicators should blink as the self-test is performed.
2. When the three indicators stop blinking, you can insert a data cartridge. The TAPE indicator will blink, and if the cartridge is write-protected, the STATUS indicator will light.
3. Computer software controls the reading and writing of tapes. While reading or writing, the BUSY indicator blinks.
How do I remove a cartridge from the SONY SDT-S11000?
To remove cartridges, press the EJECT button. The cartridge ejects automatically.
CAUTION: Do not push the EJECT button while the BUSY indicator is blinking as it may destroy data on the tape.
What does the STATUS indicator mean on the SONY SDT-S11000?
The STATUS indicator provides the following information:
• Repeated long on, short off blinking: Drive needs cleaning.
• Blinking regular interval: End of tape during cleaning.
