When viewing conventional 4:3 aspect ratio TV programs, select Wide Mode settings that fill the image on your screen. This will reduce the possibility of the gray sidebars becoming permanently imprinted.

Carrying the SONY KP-51WS520 requires four or more people. The SONY KP-51WS520 provides casters, so be sure to move your projection TV using these casters. Do not carry the projection TV holding the speaker grill, and hold the projection TV tightly when carrying it.

The STAND BY LED blinks when the SONY KP-51WS520 is turned on, then shuts off when the picture is displayed. If the LED blinks continuously, this may indicate the TV needs service.

When the TIMER LED is lit on the SONY KP-51WS520, it indicates one of the timers is set. When the timer is set, this LED will remain lit even if the TV is turned off.

To access the front video inputs on the SONY KP-51WS520, push up and release the front panel.

The TO CONVERTER jack connects to your cable box input jack. This VHF/UHF output jack lets you set up your SONY KP-51WS520 to switch between scrambled channels (coming through a cable box) and unscrambled cable channels. Step 1. Press POWER to turn on the SONY KP-51WS520. The Initial Setup screen appears.

Step 2. When prompted to start Auto Program, press the CH+ button to start Auto Program.

To optimize conditions, set Mode to Pro or Movie in the Video Menu and lower the Picture level settings.

Step 2. Press the left or right arrows to highlight the Setup icon and press the select button.

Step 3. Highlight Convergence and press select. A pattern of white crosses appears.

Step 4. Move the brackets to surround a cross that you want to adjust and press select. The brackets change to red.

Step 5. Move the arrows until the red or blue image is replaced with a white cross, then press select.

Step 6. Repeat to adjust other crosses. When finished, press MENU to exit the Setup Menu.

Step 1. Remove the battery cover from the remote control.

Step 2. Insert two size AA (R6) batteries by matching the positive and negative terminals on the batteries to the diagram inside the battery compartment.

Step 3. Replace the battery cover.

Step 1. Find the three-digit code number for the manufacturer of your equipment from the provided codes list.

Step 2. While holding down DVD/VCR FUNCTION or SAT/CABLE FUNCTION, press RESET. Then release both buttons.

To operate a VCR with the SONY KP-51WS520 remote control, press the DVD/VCR FUNCTION button to activate the remote for the VCR. Tune the SONY KP-51WS520 to a working channel and press the Twin View button on the remote control. A second picture appears, and the active picture is highlighted in blue.

While using Twin View on the SONY KP-51WS520, you can use the left and right directional arrows on the remote control to activate the left and right pictures respectively.

While using Twin View on the SONY KP-51WS520, use the up directional arrow to enlarge the active picture, or use the down directional arrow to make the active picture smaller. The TV memorizes the change for the next time you use the Twin View function.

Step 1. Press MENU to display the Menu on the SONY KP-51WS520.

Step 2. Highlight the Channel icon and press the select button.

Step 3. Press select on Favorite Channels.

Step 4. Highlight a Favorite Channel number (1-16) and press select.

Step 5. Highlight a channel you want to assign to the Favorite Channel number. A preview appears in the upper right. Press select to assign that channel.

Step 6. Repeat the steps to add more channels, and press MENU to exit.

Press the FAVORITES button on the SONY KP-51WS520 remote control. The Favorite Channels list appears. Press the up or down arrows to highlight the channel you want to watch. A preview appears. Press the select button to select the channel you want to watch.

When the program information you want to capture is displayed on the SONY KP-51WS520, press the FREEZE button on the remote control. The TV switches to Twin View mode and displays the frozen picture on the right, while the current program continues on the left. To cancel and return to normal viewing, press FREEZE again or tune to another channel.

Press MENU to display the Menu on the SONY KP-51WS520. Use the left and right arrows to move through the Menus. Use the up and down arrows to move through the Menu options. Vivid: Select for enhanced picture contrast and sharpness.

Movie: Select to display a film-like picture.

Pro: Select to display a picture with minimum enhancements.

To restore the factory default settings for the Video settings (excluding DRC Mode) of the current Mode setting on the SONY KP-51WS520, press the RESET button on the remote control while you are in the Video Menu.

The CineMotion option on the SONY KP-51WS520 provides an optimized display by automatically detecting film content and applying a reverse 3-2 pulldown process. Moving pictures will appear clearer and more natural-looking.

Step 4. Repeat to add or skip more channels, and press the left arrow or MENU to exit.

Step 1. In the Channel Menu of the SONY KP-51WS520, highlight Channel Label and press the select button.

Step 2. Scroll through the channel numbers using the up and down arrows and select the channel number you want to assign a label to.

Step 3. Highlight Label and press the select button.

Step 4. Scroll through the label characters (A-Z, 0-9, etc.) and press the select button for each character to build the label (up to 5 characters).

Step 5. Repeat to assign labels to more channels, and press MENU to exit.

Highlight the Parent Menu icon on the SONY KP-51WS520 and press the select button. Use the 0-9 buttons on the remote control to enter a four-digit password. If this is the first time you are creating this password, confirm the password by entering it again. You can then navigate and change the parental lock and rating settings.

In the Setup Menu of the SONY KP-51WS520, select Video Label. Press the up or down arrows to highlight the video input (VIDEO 1-7) to which you want to assign a label and press select. Scroll to highlight one of the displayed labels (such as DVD, Satellite, Cable Box, Skip, etc.) and press select to confirm.

Step 1. In the Setup Menu of the SONY KP-51WS520, select Clock/Timers.

Step 2. Select Current Time and use the arrows to set the day, hour, and minute.

Step 3. To set a timer, highlight Timer 1 or Timer 2 and press the right arrow. Choose the Program option.

Step 4. Set the day, hour, minute, duration, and channel using the arrows, pressing the select button to confirm each setting.

Step 5. Press MENU to exit. The TIMER LED on the front panel will light indicating it has been set.

If you are using a cable box to unscramble all channels, you cannot use the Twin View feature on the SONY KP-51WS520. This is because the cable box can unscramble only one channel at a time. If you only need the cable box to unscramble some premium channels, you can use Twin View for unscrambled channels by connecting both a cable directly and a cable box to the TV.

If the remote control for your SONY KP-51WS520 is not operating, try the following remedies:

Replace the batteries as they could be weak, and check their orientation.

Press the TV FUNCTION button, as you may have inadvertently pressed the SAT/CABLE FUNCTION button which changes the remote mode.

Make sure the TV power cord is connected securely to the wall outlet.

Locate the SONY KP-51WS520 at least 3-4 feet away from fluorescent lights.

Use the Auto Program feature in the Channel Menu of the SONY KP-51WS520 to add receivable TV channels that are not presently stored in the TV memory.

If the SONY KP-51WS520 has no picture and no sound, make sure the power cord is plugged in and press the POWER button on the front of the TV. Press the TV/VIDEO button to cycle through connected video sources, and try tuning to another channel. If the TV does not turn on and a red light keeps flashing, your TV may need service.

Adjust the Picture, Brightness, and Color options in the Video Menu of the SONY KP-51WS520. Additionally, check your antenna and cable connections.

In the password screen of the Parent Menu on the SONY KP-51WS520, enter the master password 4357. The master password clears your previous password allowing you to set a new one.

Press the MUTING button on the remote control so that Muting disappears from the screen. Ensure the Speaker option is set to On in the Audio Menu of the SONY KP-51WS520.

If a black box appears on the SONY KP-51WS520 screen, you have likely selected a text option in the Setup Menu and no text is available. To turn off this feature, set the Caption Vision option to Off. If you were trying to select closed captioning, select CC1 instead of Text 1-4.

The audio on the SONY KP-51WS520 might be set to Auto SAP or Mono when it might be better set to Stereo. In the Audio Menu, set the MTS setting to Stereo. If it is already set to Stereo, switch to Mono, which may help reduce background noise during weak stereo broadcasts.
