How do I start the engine with the electric starter?
Place the gear shift lever in neutral, making sure the tractor is on level ground and will not roll away, and apply the parking brake. Place the choke lever in the “ON” position. Set the throttle lever in the mid position and turn the ignition key to “ON”. Press the starter button to start the engine and release. As the engine warms up, return the choke lever to the “OFF” position.
How do I start the engine with the manual start?
Place the gear shift lever in neutral, making sure the tractor is on level ground and will not roll away. Pull the lift lever handle all the way back and raise the seat all the way up. Place the choke lever in the “ON” position. Place the throttle lever in the mid position and turn the ignition key to “ON” Engage the starter rope knot in the groove on the starter pulley and wind the rope around the pulley clockwise. Pull the starter rope upwards rapidly and firmly to start the engine. As the engine warms up, return the choke lever to the “OFF” position.
How do I stop the engine?
With the clutch disengaged, place the gear shift in any gear and turn the ignition key to the “OFF” position. Engage the clutch to hold the tractor in parked position and remove the ignition key for safekeeping. Apply the parking brake.
What safety precautions should I take?
Always stop the engine before leaving the machine. Always stop the engine before servicing or adjusting the machine or equipment. Always keep hands, feet, and clothing away from power-driven parts.
How do I operate the tractor?
To place the gear shift in the desired gear range, depress the combination brake and clutch pedal located on the right-hand side of the tractor. When the pedal is depressed, move the shift lever to the desired position and gradually release the pedal until the clutch is engaged. When shifting from one range to another, pause briefly in neutral before completing the shift. Set the throttle lever to obtain the desired speed.
How do I engage the parking brake?
Hold the brake pedal depressed and slide the parking brake lever all the way to the rear of its slot and turn the lever in a clockwise direction until it is tight.
How do I release the parking brake?
Turn the parking brake lever in a counter-clockwise direction until the brake pedal is released.
What maintenance is required for the battery?
The battery should be kept clean and dry at all times. Keep the battery snugly fastened in place and check battery cables for tight connections. Vent caps should be kept tight, and vent holes in vent caps must be kept open at all times to permit gases formed in battery to escape. Full maintenance instructions are provided on a separate instruction card for the battery. If the tractor is not used for an extended period during winter, remove the battery and store in a fully charged condition in a cool place.
Where are the grease fittings located?
There are three grease fittings: two on the front spindles and one on the rear axle tube.
How do I lubricate the grease fittings?
Use a standard grease gun with general-purpose automotive grease. Before lubricating, wipe each grease fitting with a rag to prevent grit and dirt from being carried into the bearings with new grease.
What maintenance is required for the engine?
Service the air cleaner and crankcase as recommended in the engine service manual. Be sure the air cleaner is maintained in clean condition. Never use oil in the crankcase for more than 25 hours of operation. Clean air and clean engine oil will give long, trouble-free operation.
What is the recommended tire pressure?
For front tires, a pressure of 10 lbs per square inch (12-15 psi for Landlord 3210 models). For rear tires, a pressure of 7 lbs per square inch (12-15 psi for Landlord 3210 models). Maintain tires at these pressures.
What maintenance is required for the transmission?
The transmission has a capacity of 1 1/2 quarts of SAE 90 oil and is filled at the factory. It will not normally require replenishment, but occasionally check the drain plug for tightness and axle tube oil seals for leakage. Maintain the oil level at the lower edge of the filler plug hole. Remove the vent plug from the top of the transmission and allow oil to settle to a normal level before checking.
What maintenance is required for the bevel gear case?
The bevel gear housing has a capacity of 1 pint of SAE 90 oil and is filled at the factory. It will not normally require replenishment, but occasionally check the drain plug for tightness and oil seals for leakage. Keep oil up to the level of the filler plug.
How do I adjust the clutch?
Position the locknuts to leave a space of about 11/16" between them and the end of the rod guide.
How do I adjust the brakes?
Pull the brake band up by hand so that it is tight around the brake drum. Adjust the nut to give a clearance of about 1/16" between the brake band and the nut. Then check to see that the idler pulley releases the belt properly before the brake is applied. If the brake does not hold properly when the pedal is pushed all the way forward, reduce slightly the spacing between the nut and the brake band. Now recheck the clutch rod adjustment for proper idler release.
How does the controlled traction differential work and how do I adjust it?
This is NOT applicable to Landlord 2010 and 2012 models. Tightening the hex head capscrews in the right-hand wheel hub provides pressure against a nylon plug and sleeve around the tractor axle and prevents excessive wheel slippage. The adjusting capscrews are set at the factory to a torque of 25 ft. lbs. As the nylon sets itself through use, it may be necessary to readjust the capscrews a few times to maintain 25 ft. lbs. of torque (25 lbs. weight on wrench 1 ft. long). Do not apply more than 30 ft. lbs to the adjusting capscrews.
How do I install the rear lift group?
- Remove 3 hex cap screws from the left side of the tractor.
- Swing the hitch member outward and install the lift assembly. Return the hitch member to its original position and replace the cap screws.
- Insert the right end of the lift assembly into the hole in the right hitch member and position the lift assembly so that the collar is flush against the right hitch member. Position the collar on the left side of the lift assembly so it is flush against the left hitch member; tighten the socket head set screw with an Allen wrench.
- Connect the lift assembly to the rear lift group. Secure with a cotter pin.
- Adjust the rear lift rod so that there is clearance between the gear case and the lift assembly when the lift lever is in the forward, latched, position. Also, adjust the rod so that the lift assembly will strike the gear case before the lift lever strikes the air cleaner on the engine when the lift lever overtravels forward.
How do I install the power take-off (PTO) assembly?
- Mount the drive pulley to the shaft of the bevel gear assembly and secure it in place with a key and set screw, with the hub of the drive pulley facing inward. Place the drive belt on the drive pulley and mount the belt guard support to the inside surface of the side plate nearest the drive pulley. Attach the belt guard to the guard support, allowing approximately 3/16" clearance between the belt and guard.
- Holding the power take-off assembly in the left hand, position the tube of the drive bracket assembly between the bevel gear housing side plates. Align the holes in the side plates with the hole in the drive bracket assembly tube and insert the pivot pin through the holes in the side plates and the drive bracket assembly tube.
- Push the pivot pin through the holes in the bracket and tube until the position of the cotter pin hole in the pivot pin is as shown. Secure in position with a cotter pin.
- Remove the hex cap screw from the frame of the tractor and mount the bracket in place on the lift lever quadrant. Position the pivot bar assembly flush against the bottom of the lift quadrant and reinstall the hex cap screw and tighten securely. Check the alignment of the drive pulley on the bevel gear shaft, the driven pulley of the power take-off, and the idler pulley, and adjust the driving pulley if necessary.
- Remove the front hex cap screw from the pull bar. Replace with the stud provided. Slip on the handle assembly and tighten with a hex head lock nut to permit free movement of the handle. Mount the V-belt in place on the driven pulley and attach the spring to the hole provided in the bottom of the bracket assembly. Hook the other end of the spring to the handle assembly. Mount the belt stop. When the implement is attached to the tractor with the idler pulley engaged, a 1/8" clearance between the belt stop and back of the V-belt is required. Note: the V-belt runs under the idler pulley.
How do I operate the PTO?
The operation of the power take-off is controlled by the movement of the clutch lever assembly. When the clutch lever is in the forward raised position, the clutch rod releases the tension holding the idler pulley against the drive belt, and power will not be transmitted to the driven pulley of the power take-off assembly. When the clutch lever is in the back, depressed position, the clutch rod applies tension to the idler pulley, and as the idler pulley takes up the slack in the drive belt, power is transmitted from the drive pulley on the bevel gearbox shaft to the driven pulley of the power take-off.
How do I lubricate the PTO?
The power take-off is lubricated by means of one grease fitting located on the bottom front of the drive bracket assembly. Occasionally apply grease using a standard grease gun loaded with automotive-type grease. Be sure to wipe dirt and grit from the grease fitting before applying the grease gun. Lubricate all pivot points and idler pulley bearings with SAE 20 oil every few hours of operation.
How do I adjust the PTO clutch lever?
Check the tightness of the hex nut at points “A” and “B” to be sure that the clutch lever assembly and clutch rod are free to pivot without binding. Place the clutch lever in the “drive” position and observe the clearance between collar “C” and the end of the bracket. When an implement is attached to the tractor, this clearance should normally be approximately 3/4"; at this setting, the idler pulley should be snugly against the drive belt. If additional tension is required, release the clutch lever and loosen the set screw on the collar and slide the collar farther back on the clutch rod. Retighten the set screw in the collar and put the clutch lever in the drive position. Recheck the clearance. The tension of the idler pulley against the drive belt must be sufficient to operate whichever tractor attachment is being used. Any additional tension is unnecessary and will only cause premature failure of belts and idler pulley bearings.
