5. START ORGANIZING:

At any time, you can start using the Organizer by highlighting START ORGANIZING and pressing ENTER. The Calendar application will open with today’s date selected.


How do I turn the SHARP OZ-5600 on and off?

Press ON to turn the power on and OFF to turn the power off. The SHARP OZ-5600 will not operate if the battery replacement switch is in the REPLACE BATTERIES position.

Auto power off: To conserve battery power, the Organizer will turn itself off if it has not been used for about 12 consecutive minutes. This feature is disabled during data transfers. If the power goes off automatically while you are working on an entry, the data will not be lost. When you press ON, the Organizer will return to the same state as before it turned off.


How do I use and adjust the backlight on my SHARP OZ-5600?

The SHARP OZ-5600 has a built-in backlight to help you view the display in low-light conditions.

• Pressing BACKLIGHT once illuminates the display for around 15 seconds. When already on, press BACKLIGHT again to turn it off.

If the unit becomes inoperative, you may need to press the RESET switch. Be aware that a condition that makes the unit inoperative may erase some or all of the data stored in memory.

Standard Reset:

Press the RESET switch at the bottom of the unit using a pen or similar object.

All Reset Operation (if standard reset fails or password is forgotten):

This is a more complicated procedure and should be used with caution.

1. While pressing and holding ON, press and release the RESET switch.

2. A message appears. Release the ON key.

3. Press N. The built-in clock and any set daily alarms are reset. This will not delete your data.

Important: Do not press Y in step 3. Doing so will delete all data in the unit. However, if you have forgotten the password required at start-up, you have no choice but to press Y in order to use the unit, but this will result in losing all your data.


How do I replace the memory backup battery in my SHARP OZ-5600?

The memory backup battery has an expected life of approximately five years. Do not try to replace the memory backup battery if the main operating batteries are weak, as this may result in data loss.

1. Turn off the Organizer.

2. Set the battery replacement switch on the back of the unit to REPLACE BATTERIES (a red dot will be visible).

3. Remove the screw holding the memory backup battery cover in place.

4. Remove the memory backup battery cover.

5. Remove the old battery using a pen or a similar object.

6. Insert a new CR2032 lithium battery with the plus (+) side up.

7. Replace the memory backup battery cover and secure it with the screw.

8. Set the battery replacement switch to NORMAL OPERATION.


What do the various keys and on-screen symbols on my SHARP OZ-5600 mean?

The following tables explain the functions of various keys and display symbols on your SHARP OZ-5600.

Display Symbols:

Symbol Meaning
Indicates the current entry has been marked as Secret.
➞ ↑ ↓ Indicates more information in an entry can be viewed by pressing the corresponding arrow key.
2nd The 2nd key has been pressed.
BATT The operating batteries are weak and need to be replaced.
CAPS Caps lock mode is active.
T The Organizer is locked. Entries marked as secret cannot be accessed.
e The key sound (beep) is on.
(Bell) All alarms are enabled.

Key Functions:

Key / Representation Function
CANCEL / ON Clears an unstored entry. Cancels a selection, menu, or operation.
NEW Opens a new entry in an application.
EDIT Edits the currently selected or displayed entry.
˜ (tilde symbol) Displays a pop-up list for the currently selected field.
PREV / NEXT Steps up/down through entries or screens.
BS Backspace key; deletes the character to the left of the cursor.
2nd + CUT (X) Cuts selected text/entry to the clipboard.
2nd + COPY (C) Copies selected text/entry to the clipboard.
2nd + PASTE (V) Pastes text/picture from the clipboard.
DEL Deletes a character at the cursor position or deletes a selected entry.
ENTER Executes operations, stores entries, opens Edit mode.
GET / SEND Receives/sends data via the infrared port from/to another OZ-5600.
