What should I do after the first connection to line power?

After the first connection to line power, allow for >30 minutes warmup.

What should I do before connecting or disconnecting peripherals?

Pull out the power cord prior to connecting or disconnecting peripherals.

What should I do if I operate my toploader in a hazardous location?

If applicable in your country, notify the technical inspection authorities prior to operating your toploader in a hazardous location.

What should I do if I have trouble with my toploader?

In case of trouble, please notify your nearest Sartorius service station.

What happens if someone other than authorized Sartorius service technicians manipulates the toploader?

Manipulations on this toploader by anyone other than authorized Sartorius service technicians result in immediate loss of the approval for use in hazardous locations, of the manufacturer’s guarantee coverage, and of all product liability.

What should I do after receiving my toploader?

Please complete the guarantee card, indicating the installation date, and return the card to your Sartorius dealer.

How should I set up the toploader?

Tilt the display head up and secure it with the two locking screws (13) on the rear of the toploader. Remove the white masking from the adhesive dots on the dust cover. Press the cover onto the toploader by exerting slight pressure. Install the second dust cover on the display head. Install the platform support (7) and the platform (6) on the toploader. Note the centering pivot (8) and the guide pin (9). Don’t force-turn the platform support (7). This would cause damage to the weighing system.

What should I be careful about when setting up the dust cover and the platform?

Double-check to be sure: the dust cover must not push up against the platform!

How is the voltage selector set at the factory?

The voltage selector of the power supply unit was set to 220 V at the factory or according to your order specifications.

How should I make the power connection?

Power connection must be done in accordance with Elex V and the DIN 57165/VDE 0165 requirements. At the point of use, make the power connection. Secure the connection with the threaded ring.

How should I level the toploader?

Level your toploader with the leveling screws (10) such that the air bubble is centered in the level indicator (15).

What does “BUSY” mean on the weight display?

The processor is still busy processing other information and will not accept other tasks at this time.

What does “STANDBY” mean on the weight display?

The toploader was switched off with the ON/OFF button and is now in the STANDBY mode and ready to operate without warmup.

What does “POWER OFF” mean on the weight display?

The toploader was disconnected from line power (reconnection to line power, power failure).

What does “CAL” mean on the weight display?

The calibration function has been called.

How do I switch the toploader on or off?

Use the ON/OFF button (5). You can also turn on the toploader with the tare bar (1).

What happens when the toploader is in standby mode?

After switching off, only the display is dead. All other circuits remain energized (STANDBY). The toploader is immediately ready to operate without having to wait for warmup next time you switch it on.

What happens after the toploader is powered on?

After power-on, a test of all essential electronic functions is automatically run. Successful completion of the test is indicated by 0.0 g in the weight display.

What should I do if the display doesn’t read 0.0 g?

If you are weighing into a container, or if the display doesn’t read 0.0 g or the equivalent with the weight unit of your choice, you have to tare the toploader.

How do I calibrate the toploader?

Clear the platform and press the CAL button (4) for at least 3 seconds until the calibration weight 5000.0 appears in the display. Center the calibration weight on the platform. Now the weight unit symbol appears in the display and a beeper signals completion of the calibration procedure.

Can the calibration function be disabled?

You can disable the calibration function – see “Balance operating program”. The function is enabled whenever the balance operating program was unlocked with the menu access switch.

What other weight units can this toploader use besides grams?

In addition to grams, this toploader gives you a variety of other international weight unit options to work with.

How do I select a different weight unit?

Select the weight unit you need from the table in the balance operating program, and set the appropriate code as described in section “Balance operating program”.

What is the balance operating program for?

The balance operating program permits adaption of your toploader to various ambient conditions at the point of use and to different weighing requirements, plus selection of various weight units used in your country.

What is the factory setting for the balance operating program?

At the factory, the codes are set for a standard program, which is protected by a locking function to prevent accidental changes.

What is the “code” in the operating program?

The “code” is the information carrier of the operating program. It consists of three digits: one each for the page, the line, and the word.

How do I access the balance operating program?

Press the ON/OFF button while depressing the tare bar at the same time. After completion of the automatic power-on test, the status of the balance operating program appears in the weight display: “L” stands for the list mode.

What is the list mode?

In this mode, you can only verify the code setting, but you cannot program new codes.

How do I change a program code?

If you want to change a program code, you must first unlock the program access. To do so, slide the access switch (12) located on the left side below of the display head in arrow direction. The display will signal “C” representing the change mode, and you can now proceed to make the necessary code changes.

How do I make selections in the balance operating program?

After the balance operating program has been called, the display will show a continuous numerical sequence from 0 to 5 representing the “page” selection, in addition to the status code letter “L” or “C”. When your selected number for the “page” appears, push the tare bar. The “page” code number now stops in the display, and the numerical sequence for the “line” starts. Press the tare bar to stop the code number of your choice in the display, and your desired selection will be entered. Next, the numerical sequence for the “word” appears. The appearance of the o-symbol indicates the actual setting. To make changes (“C” mode), press the tare bar when the appropriate code appears. Brief display of the o-symbol and BUSY confirms your selection, followed by return to the “zero” representing the line. To return to the weighing program: push the tare bar each time a 0 appears in the numerical sequence (word, line, page). If you have made code changes, your code entry is stored as soon as the display returns to the weighing mode. Lock the balance operating program with the access switch (display “L”) and replace the protective cap.

What is the auto-zero function?

This toploader has an automatic zero tracking function. Any change off zero of <0.5 digits per second will be set to zero automatically.

What are the available codes for the balance operating program?

The PDF lists various codes for ambient conditions, program lock, acoustic signal, stability range, weight units, display format, tare parameters, auto-zero, calibration access, and additional parameters for the data output format. Some of the codes include: Very stable, stable, unstable, very unstable ambient conditions; Program lock ON or OFF; Acoustic signal ON or OFF; Stability range from 0.25 digits to 64 digits; Weight units such as grams, kilograms, carats, pounds, ounces, troy ounces, parts/pound, Hong Kong taels, Singapore taels, Taiwan taels, grains, pennyweights, mommes, milligrams, and Austrian carats; Display format with last decimal on or off; Tare parameters with or without stability; Auto-zero ON or OFF; Calibration accessible or blocked.

What accessories are available for the toploader?

Available accessories include dust covers for the display head and toploader, a 5000g calibration weight, a theft prevention lock, a tare foot switch, a data interface, an interface converter, and a printer.
