The hard buttons on your SAMSUNG SM-S921W have the following functions:

Side button:

• When the device is off, press and hold to turn it on.

• Press to turn on or lock the screen.

• Press and hold to start a conversation with Bixby.

• Press twice or press and hold to open the app or feature you set.

Side button + Volume Down button:

• Press simultaneously to capture a screenshot.

• Press and hold simultaneously to turn off the device.

You can select an app or feature to launch by pressing the Side button twice or by pressing and holding it.

To do this, open Settings, tap Advanced features → Side button, and then select the option you want.

When you turn on the screen, soft buttons appear on the navigation bar at the bottom. Their functions are:

You can charge your SAMSUNG SM-S921W using two methods:

Wired Charging:

Connect the USB cable to the USB power adapter and plug the cable into the device’s multipurpose jack. After the battery is fully charged, disconnect the charger from the device.

Wireless Charging:

The device has a built-in wireless charging coil. Place the center of your device’s back on the center of a wireless charger (sold separately). After fully charging, disconnect the device from the wireless charger. For stable wireless charging, it is recommended to remove any cover or accessory from the device.

To ensure your SAMSUNG SM-S921W charges properly and to avoid overheating or damage, follow these precautions for wireless charging:

• Do not place the device on the wireless charger with a credit card or radio-frequency identification (RFID) card (like a transportation or key card) between the back of the device and the device cover.

• Do not place conductive materials, such as metal objects or magnets, between the device and the wireless charger.

• If you use the wireless charger in areas with weak network signals, you may lose network reception.

• Use only Samsung-approved wireless chargers. Other chargers may not charge the battery properly.

You can charge another device using your phone’s battery. It’s recommended to remove any accessories or covers before using this feature.

1. Open the notification panel, swipe downwards, and tap the (Wireless power sharing) icon to turn it on. If you can’t find the icon, tap the Plus icon → Edit and drag the button over to add it.

2. Place the other device on the center of your phone, with their backs facing each other.

3. When charging is finished, disconnect the other device from your phone.

Note:

• The location of the wireless charging coil may differ by device; adjust them so they connect properly.

• Do not use headphones while sharing power.

• Only devices that support wireless charging can be charged with this feature.

Your SAMSUNG SM-S921W provides several options to help conserve battery power:

• Optimize the device using the device care feature.

• When not in use, turn off the screen by pressing the Side button.

• Turn on power saving mode.

• Close unnecessary apps.

• Turn off the Bluetooth feature when not in use.

• Turn off auto-syncing for apps that need to be synced.

• Decrease the backlight time.

• Decrease the screen brightness.

Follow these steps to insert a nano-SIM card:

1. Insert the ejection pin into the hole on the tray to loosen it.

2. Pull the tray gently from the tray slot.

3. Place the SIM or USIM card on the tray with the gold-colored contacts facing upwards and gently press it into the tray to secure it.

4. Insert the tray back into the tray slot.

Important:

• Use only a nano-SIM card.

• Ensure the ejection pin is perpendicular to the hole to avoid damaging the device.

• Make sure the tray is dry before inserting it to prevent damage.

• Fully insert the tray to prevent liquid from entering your device.

To download an eSIM, open Settings and tap Connections → SIM manager → Add eSIM. If a mobile plan is found, follow the on-screen instructions. If you have a QR code, tap Scan QR code and scan it.

To manage your SIMs, go to Settings → Connections → SIM manager. Here you can:

• SIM cards: Activate and customize physical SIM card settings.

• eSIMs: Download or activate an eSIM.

• Primary SIM: Select a primary SIM for features like voice calls when two cards are active.

• Data switching: Allow the device to use another SIM for data if the preferred SIM cannot connect to the network.

• More SIM settings: Customize call or eSIM settings.

Turning the device on:

Press and hold the Side button for a few seconds.

Turning the device off:

1. Press and hold the Side button and the Volume Down button simultaneously. Alternatively, open the notification panel, swipe down, and tap the Power icon.

2. Tap Power off. To restart, tap Restart.

If you want to set the device to turn off by pressing and holding the Side button alone, tap Side button settings and select Power off menu under “Press and hold”.

If your device is frozen and unresponsive, press and hold the Side button and the Volume Down button simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to restart it.

You can use Smart Switch to transfer data via a USB cable. If the Smart Switch app is not on your old device, download it from the Galaxy Store or Play Store.

1. Connect your new phone and the previous device using your new phone’s USB cable. A USB adapter may be needed depending on the previous device.

2. When the app selection pop-up appears on your new phone, tap Smart Switch → Receive data.

3. On the previous device, tap Allow.

4. On your new phone, select the data you want to transfer, tap Next, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Ensure your device is sufficiently charged before starting, as data transfer consumes battery power.

You can transfer data wirelessly using Smart Switch via Wi-Fi Direct.

1. On the previous device, open the Smart Switch app.

2. On your new SAMSUNG SM-S921W, open Settings and tap Accounts and backup → Transfer data for device setup.

3. Place the devices near each other.

4. On the previous device, tap Send data → Wireless.

5. On your new phone, tap Receive data, select your previous device’s operating system, and then tap Wireless.

6. On the previous device, tap Connect.

7. On your new phone, select the content you want to transfer, tap Next, and follow the on-screen instructions.

To get a wider screen for viewing files or using apps, you can hide the navigation bar.

Open Settings and tap Display → Navigation bar → Swipe gestures.

On the Home screen, touch and hold an empty area, or pinch your fingers together to access the editing options. From here you can:

• Add, move, or delete panels: Swipe to the left and tap the plus icon to add a panel. Drag a panel preview to move it. Tap the trash icon on a panel to delete it.

• Wallpapers and Style: Change the wallpaper for the Home and locked screens.

• Themes: Change the device’s theme, affecting colors, icons, and wallpapers.

• Widgets: Add small apps to your Home screen for quick access to information and features.

• Settings: Configure Home screen settings, such as the screen layout.

The Edge panel gives you quick access to your favorite apps and features. To open it, drag the Edge panel handle towards the center of the screen.

If the Edge panel handle is not visible, you can enable it by opening Settings, tapping Display, and then tapping the Edge panels switch to turn it on.

You can capture a screenshot using one of the following methods:

• Button capture: Press the Side button and the Volume Down button simultaneously.

• Swipe capture: With the edge of your hand, swipe your hand to the left or right across the screen. If this feature is not turned on, go to Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures, and turn on the Palm swipe to capture switch.

Captured screenshots can be found in the Gallery app.

You can record your screen while using the device.

1. Open the notification panel, swipe downwards, and then tap (Screen recorder).

2. Select a sound setting and tap Start recording. Recording will begin after a countdown.

• To write or draw on the screen during the recording, tap the pencil icon.

• To record the screen with a video overlay of yourself, tap the person icon.

3. When you are finished, tap the stop icon.

The video will be saved in your Gallery.

You can extract text from images in apps like Gallery or Camera.

1. While checking an image in the Gallery app, tap the text icon. This icon only appears when there is text to extract.

2. Select an area to extract text from.

3. Select an option you want, such as Copy or Share.

Uninstalling or Disabling Apps:

Touch and hold an app and select an option:

• Uninstall: Removes downloaded apps.

• Disable: Disables selected default apps that cannot be uninstalled.

Enabling Apps:

Open Settings, tap Apps → Filter and Sort icon → Disabled → OK, select an app, and then tap Enable.

Air actions allow you to control apps remotely using the S Pen, which is connected to your device via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). For example, you can open the Camera app by pressing and holding the S Pen button. While in the camera, press the button once to take a picture.

To use Air actions, the feature must be enabled:

1. Open Settings and tap Advanced features → S Pen → Air actions.

2. Tap the switch to turn on the feature.

The S Pen must be charged to use Air actions. It charges automatically when inserted into the slot.

Air command is a menu that provides direct access to S Pen features and frequently used apps.

Tap the Air command icon with the S Pen to open the panel and select a function or app. You can access features like:

• Create note: Create notes in a pop-up window.

• Smart select: Select an area on the screen to perform actions like sharing or saving.

• Screen write: Capture screenshots to write or draw on.

• Translate: Hover the S Pen over a word to translate it.

• Magnify: Hover the S Pen over an area to enlarge it.

• Add: Add shortcuts to your favorite apps to the Air command panel.

If the Air command icon does not appear, open Settings → Advanced features → S Pen → Air command, and turn on the Show Air command icon switch.

You can create memos by writing on the screen without turning it on.

When the screen is off, either detach the S Pen or double tap the screen while pressing and holding the S Pen button. You can then write your memo directly on the screen.

When you tap Save or reinsert the S Pen into its slot, the memo will be saved to Samsung Notes.

If this feature is not turned on, open Settings, tap Advanced features → S Pen, and then tap the Screen off memos switch to turn it on.

From the Keypad:

1. Open the Phone app and tap Keypad.

2. Enter a phone number.

3. Tap the green call icon to make a voice call, or the video icon to make a video call.

From Call Logs or Contacts:

Open the Phone app, tap Recents or Contacts, and then swipe to the right on a contact or phone number to make a call. If this feature is off, you can enable it in Phone app → More options (three dots) → Settings → Other call settings → Swipe to call or text.

You can block calls from specific numbers added to your block list.

Open the Phone app, tap the more options icon (three vertical dots), then tap Settings → Block numbers. From here, you can select contacts or enter phone numbers to add to the list.

When blocked numbers try to contact you, you will not receive notifications, but the calls will be logged in the call log.

You can also block calls from people who do not show their caller ID by tapping the Block calls from unknown numbers switch to turn the feature on.

Call assist provides real-time communication aids during your calls. It includes:

• Text call: Communicate with the other party through text. When you make or receive a call, tap Call assist → Text call. What the other party says is displayed as text on your screen, and what you type is transmitted as a voice to the other party.

• Live translate: Get real-time translation during voice calls. To use this feature, you must first enable it in the Phone app settings under Live translate. During a call, tap Call assist → Live translate and select the languages.

If your contacts list includes duplicate contacts, you can merge them into one to streamline your list.

1. Open the Contacts app and tap the menu icon (three horizontal lines).

2. Tap Manage contacts → Merge contacts.

3. Tick the contacts you want to merge and tap Merge.

1. Open the Camera app. You can also open it by pressing the Side button twice or dragging the camera icon on the locked screen.

2. Tap the image on the preview screen where you want the camera to focus.

3. Tap the shutter button to take a picture.

To change the shooting mode, drag the shooting modes list to the left or right.

You can record high-resolution videos with a maximum resolution of 8K.

1. Open the Camera app and switch to VIDEO mode.

2. In the shooting options at the top of the screen, tap the resolution icon (e.g., FHD) to change the resolution to the one you want (e.g., 8K).

3. Tap the record button to start recording.

When you finish recording and play the video in the Gallery, you can tap the capture icon on a frame you like to save it as a picture.

Pro mode allows you to capture pictures or videos while manually adjusting various shooting options.

On the shooting modes list, tap MORE → PRO or PRO VIDEO. You can then customize settings such as:

• ISO: Controls the camera’s light sensitivity.

• SPEED: Adjusts the shutter speed to control how much light is let in.

• EV: Changes the exposure value.

• FOCUS: Manually adjust the focus.

• WB: Select an appropriate white balance for a true-to-life color range.

• MIC (Pro video mode): Select the direction of sound to record at a higher level.

• ZOOM (Pro video mode): Adjust the zoom speed.

Generative edit allows you to edit images by moving, removing, or resizing people or objects in them, and then it generates a new background to fill in any missing pieces.

1. Open the Gallery app and select an image.

2. Tap the edit icon → Generative edit icon (sparkles).

3. Tap or draw around anything you want to delete or move.

4. Touch and hold the selected area and drag it to a new location or tap the trash icon to delete it.

5. Tap Generate.

6. Tap Done to save the image.

AR Zone provides features to create and use augmented reality emojis.

Creating an AR Emoji:

1. Launch AR Zone (from the Camera app’s MORE menu or the AR Zone app icon) and tap AR Emoji Studio.

2. You can pick a pre-made emoji, or to make your own, take a selfie or select an image.

3. Follow the on-screen instructions to customize and create your emoji.

Using AR Emojis:

• AR Emoji Camera: Create fun pictures or videos with your emoji in different modes (SCENE, MASK, MIRROR, PLAY).

• AR Emoji Stickers: When you create an emoji, stickers are automatically generated. You can use these in messages and on social networks.

• Contact Profile: Use an emoji as your profile picture for your Samsung account and in the Contacts app.

Multi window allows you to run two apps in a split-screen view or multiple apps in a pop-up view. You can launch it in a few ways:

By swiping the screen:

• For split-screen view, swipe with two fingers from the bottom of the screen towards the middle.

• For pop-up view, swipe from a top corner towards the middle of the screen.

To enable this, go to Settings → Advanced features → Multi window and turn on the switches for Swipe for split screen or Swipe for pop-up view.

Using the Recents button:

1. Tap the Recents button to see your recently used apps.

2. Tap an app’s icon, and then select Open in split screen view or Open in pop-up view.

After registering your cards in the Wallet app, you can make payments.

1. Drag a card image from the bottom of the screen upwards. Alternatively, open the Wallet app. Then, on the cards list, swipe left or right to select a card.

2. Scan your fingerprint or enter the payment PIN you set.

3. Touch the back of your device to the card reader. The payment will be processed when the card reader recognizes the information.

Music Share allows you to share a Bluetooth speaker or listen to music together using two pairs of Galaxy Buds.

Sharing a Bluetooth Speaker:

1. Ensure your phone is connected to your Bluetooth speaker.

2. On your phone, open Settings → Connected devices, and tap the Music Share switch to turn it on.

3. On your friend’s phone, select your speaker from their list of Bluetooth devices.

4. On your phone, accept the connection request. Your speaker is now shared.

Listening with Galaxy Buds:

1. Ensure each phone is connected to its respective pair of Galaxy Buds.

2. On your friend’s phone, enable Music Share as described above.

3. On your phone, open the notification panel and tap Media output.

4. Tap Music Share and select your friend’s Buds from the detected devices list.

5. On your friend’s phone, accept the connection request.

You can access your mobile device’s data, like apps and pictures, on a Windows computer.

Connecting to a computer:

1. On your mobile device, open Settings and tap Connected devices → Link to Windows.

2. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the connection.

Accessing data on the computer:

Once connected, open the Phone Link app on your computer and select a category you want to access, such as Photos, Messages, Apps, or Calls.

You can connect your device to an external display like a TV or monitor to use Samsung DeX, which provides a computer-like interface.

Wired Connection:

1. Connect an HDMI adapter (USB Type-C to HDMI) to your mobile device.

2. Connect an HDMI cable from the adapter to a TV or monitor’s HDMI port.

3. On your mobile device’s screen, tap Start. The Samsung DeX screen will appear on the connected display.

Wireless Connection:

1. On your mobile device, open the notification panel and tap (DeX).

2. Select a TV from the detected devices list and tap Start now.

3. If a connection request appears on the TV, accept it.

4. Follow the on-screen instructions. The Samsung DeX screen will then appear on the TV.

If your device prompts you to enter a code, it could be one of the following:

• Password: If the device lock feature is on, you must enter the password you set.

• PIN: When using the device for the first time or if the PIN requirement is on, you must enter the PIN supplied with your SIM card.

• PUK: If your SIM card is blocked from entering an incorrect PIN multiple times, you must enter the PUK supplied by your carrier.

• PIN2: If you access a menu requiring PIN2, you must enter the PIN2 supplied with your SIM card. Contact your carrier for more information.

If the battery is completely discharged, your device will not turn on. Fully charge the battery using a Samsung-approved charger before trying to turn on the device again.

If you experience issues with touch recognition, try the following:

• Remove any screen protectors or optional accessories from the screen.

• Ensure your hands are clean and dry when touching the screen. Do not use sharp objects or your fingertips.

• Restart your device to clear any temporary software problems.

• Ensure your device software is updated to the latest version.

• If the screen is physically scratched or damaged, visit an authorized service center.

If your device freezes, hangs, or is unresponsive, try these solutions:

• Restarting the device: Close any open apps and restart the device normally.

• Forcing restart: If the device is completely frozen, press and hold the Side button and the Volume Down button simultaneously for more than 7 seconds to force a restart.

• Resetting the device: If the problem persists, perform a factory data reset. Open Settings and tap General management → Reset → Factory data reset → Reset → Delete all. Before doing this, ensure you have backed up all important data stored on the device.

If calls are not connecting, check the following:

• Ensure that you have accessed the right cellular network.

• Ensure that you have not set call barring for the phone number you are dialing.

• Ensure that you have not set call barring for incoming phone numbers.

If you are using a Samsung-approved charger and the battery is not charging correctly:

• Ensure that the charger is connected properly to both the device and the power source.

• If the problem continues, visit a Samsung Service Centre or an authorized service centre to have the battery checked and possibly replaced.

To free up storage space, you should delete unnecessary data. You can use the device care feature to clear cache, or manually delete unused apps or files.
