How do I connect a mains plug for my Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI in the UK?

The appliance cord is terminated with a UK-approved mains plug fitted with a 3A fuse. If the fuse needs to be replaced, an ASTA or BSI approved BS1362 fuse rated at 3A must be used.

The wires in the mains lead are coloured in accordance with the code: Blue for NEUTRAL and Brown for LIVE. To connect the plug:

The BLUE wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter N or coloured BLUE or BLACK.

The BROWN wire must be connected to the terminal marked with the letter L or coloured BROWN or RED.

How should I unpack my Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI speakers?

Unpack the speakers fully. Lift the speakers from the cartons by holding the cabinets. Do not use the protective bags to lift them. When maneuvering loudspeakers, do not drag them across the floor as this may cause damage; lift them before moving them.

In the carton you will find the loudspeaker(s) and the product manual. Check the product carefully. If any items are damaged or missing, report this to your dealer as soon as possible.

Retain the packing for future transport. If you dispose of the packing, please do so following all recycling regulations in your area.

How do I use the foam bung with my Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI?

The Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI speakers are rear-ported and designed to work best with some space behind them (e.g., 200mm or so away from a wall). If you position your speakers close to a wall or corner, the foam bungs should be inserted into the rear ports to prevent too much bass.

Ensure the bungs are fitted snugly into the port without inserting them too far. You will find the level of bass is reduced, but definition and bass extension are increased. Experiment to see what you prefer and try making small changes to the position of the speaker to optimise the final result.

How should I position the Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI centre channel speaker?

The Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI is designed to be operated close to a TV screen and central to it. It should be placed immediately above or below the screen.

If you are using a regular TV set, make sure that the TV is capable of adequately supporting the speaker and has a level top. If not, consider placing the TV on a cabinet with the Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI on a secure shelf immediately below the TV.

If you have a Plasma or LCD monitor, you can mount the Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI to the wall or another suitable surface immediately above or below the screen using the Q-Acoustics Wall Bracket.

What is the recommended positioning for surround speakers in a Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI system?

Based on recommendations from Dolby labs for 5.1 effects speakers, surround speakers should be mounted on either side of the listener, slightly behind the listening position. The speakers should be sited facing inward, either mounted on the side walls of the room or, if the room is large, on high stands with their centres above ear level to a seated listener.

How do I prepare and connect loudspeaker cables to my Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI?

Preparing Cables:

1. Split the cable to a depth of about 40 mm.

2. Bare the wire to a depth of 10mm and twist the ends to gather any stray wires.

3. Crop the cable leaving 7mm of bare wire exposed.

Connecting a Terminal:

1. Unscrew the terminal anticlockwise to expose the mounting hole in the base of the terminal column.

2. Insert the bare end of the cable into the hole.

3. Re-tighten the terminal fully hand tight. Make sure there are no stray wires which could touch adjacent terminals.

How do I make a standard stereo connection for the Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI?

To make a standard connection:

1. Connect the RED (+) terminal of the RIGHT loudspeaker to the RED, Positive (+) terminal on the RIGHT channel of the amplifier.

2. Connect the BLACK (–) terminal of the loudspeaker to the matching BLACK, Negative (–) terminal of the amplifier.

3. Repeat this procedure for the LEFT channel.

After your speakers are connected, switch on the system and play some music at a moderate level. You can then fine-tune the speaker placement to suit your preference.

How do I operate the 2070Si Subwoofer included in the Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI series?

Auto Power On: This feature allows you to switch the main system on and off without needing to manually switch the subwoofer. If there is no signal input, the subwoofer will automatically power down into Standby mode after a few minutes, indicated by the POWER light turning red. As soon as it senses an input, it will switch into operational mode, and the light will turn green again.

If the subwoofer does not automatically switch out of standby, you can adjust the auto-on sensitivity to HIGH. If this causes the subwoofer to stay on all the time due to system noise, a setting of MED is recommended.

Heat Protection: The 2070Si Subwoofer has a fail-safe heat protection system. If the amplifier overheats, it will shut down momentarily and then resume operation. If this occurs, check that the ventilation holes are not covered and the subwoofer is not too close to a heat source.

Using Multiple Subwoofers: The 2070Si includes a “Chain out” Line output connection. This allows the signal to be daisy-chained to one or more subwoofers, as an alternative to using a “Y-Adaptor” at the amplifier output. All subwoofers must be set up independently using their own controls.

How do I set up the 2070Si subwoofer for a multi-channel AV system with my Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI?

Connections: Connect the SUBWOOFER OUTPUT on the AV amplifier to the L/Mono Line input on the subwoofer, pushing the plugs firmly home.

Setting Up:

1. Check that all system connections are properly and securely made and that the subwoofer is switched off.

2. Set the controls to the following default settings:

Level: Approximately half

Crossover: Fully clockwise (AV setting)

Phase: Fully anti-clockwise (0° setting)

Sound Mode: AV

Phase invert: 0°

Auto on sensitivity: Med

Speaker type: No effect when crossover is set to AV

3. Plug the power cord into the subwoofer and the AC supply socket. Switch on the power at the supply socket, then switch the power switch on the subwoofer to ‘ON’.

4. Check your AV amplifier settings to ensure the sub-woofer is set to ‘ON’ or YES, and the sub-woofer level is at its default position or 0dB.

5. Set the distance (or delay) setting on your amplifier that is correct for the sub-woofer position you have chosen.

6. Play some stereo music and experiment with the Phase invert setting and level control until you hear a seamless blend. If the subwoofer stands out, it’s too loud.

How do I use the included Setup CD to fine-tune the 2070Si subwoofer in my Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI system?

The included Setup CD is designed to assist in setting up the AV amplifier’s distance/time delay settings. The disc contains six tracks, each playing pink noise (20 Hz to 1000Hz) through a combination of one speaker and the subwoofer.

1. Choose whichever front speaker is closest to the subwoofer and play the corresponding track. For instance, if it is the front right speaker, play track three.

2. Adjust the amplifier’s distance/time delay settings for the subwoofer by the smallest amount possible (e.g., if set to 4m, change to 4.1m or 3.9m).

3. Listen to see if the pink noise becomes warmer and fuller, or thinner in tone.

4. If the sound became fuller, continue adjusting in that direction (e.g., to 4.2m) until it starts to become thinner again. If it became thinner, adjust in the opposite direction (e.g., to 3.9m).

5. In this way, you can find the optimum (warmest) setting.

Do not adjust to more than +/-0.5m from the original measured distance. Once you are happy with the setting, play track six to check the overall result. The sound should be full, warm, and integrated, with no individual speaker being dominant.

What are the key topics to consider for a Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI home theatre setup?

Placement: The Front and Centre speakers should be in line. If this is not possible, consult your processor manual for guidance on adjusting relative centre/front delay times.

Bass Management: AV processors offer a choice of ‘Large’ or ‘Small’ for speakers. We recommend you choose ’Small’ for the Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI, which sends the bass to the Subwoofer. The subwoofer option should be enabled (set to ‘ON’ or ‘YES’).

Levels: Use your processor’s ‘setup’ routine to set each individual speaker so that the level is the same at the listening position. If you can adjust delay times, follow the instructions closely. You may need to adjust the subwoofer level at both the processor and the subwoofer. Once set, do not re-adjust these levels.

LFE: The LFE channel sends bass sound effects to the subwoofer. If speakers are set to ‘Small’, system bass from those channels is also sent to the subwoofer. If you play the system at extreme levels and/or have the subwoofer level set too high, you may overdrive the subwoofer. If this occurs, reduce the level immediately.

Phase: If your speakers are incorrectly wired, the bass will be blurred and thin. Check the wiring carefully. If your speaker wire has a tracer along one core, consistently use the striped core to connect all the positive (RED) terminals to ensure the system is in phase.

How do I care for my Q ACOUSTICS 2000CI speakers?

Cabinet Care:

Clean cabinets with a barely damp cloth. Do not use solvent-based cleaning materials. If the cabinets become stained, remove the stain with a cloth lightly moistened with water, white spirit, or isopropyl alcohol depending on the stain. Then lightly buff with a cloth to remove any residue. Never use abrasives of any kind.

Grilles:

Lightly brush out grilles with a soft brush. Do not remove the speaker grilles unless absolutely necessary.

Drive Units:

Drive units are best left untouched as they are easily damaged when exposed.
