To ensure proper operation of your PRIMERA LX610 printer, follow these guidelines for choosing a location:

• Place the printer on a flat surface in a location with adequate air circulation to prevent internal heat buildup.

• Do not place the printer near heat sources such as radiators or air ducts, or in a place subject to direct sunlight, excessive dust, mechanical vibration, or shock.

• Allow for adequate clearance in front of the printer to accommodate the printed label stock as it is leaving the printer to avoid the possibility of binding or jamming.

• Allow for 6 inches of clearance behind the printer to accommodate loop creation during cutting operations. The area directly behind the printer must also not be obstructed by USB or power cables.

• Allow for adequate overhead clearance for opening the top cover. The printer will require 7 inches (17.78 cm) of additional space on the top side to completely open the cover, for a total of 16.5 inches (41.91 cm).

The following items are included with your PRIMERA LX610 printer:

1. Power Adapter and Cord

2. 6’ USB Cable (If another USB cable is used, it must be 6’ (2 M) or less)

3. Color Dye Ink Cartridge Part Number 53496 (Pigment is also available – Part Number: 53491)

4. Die Cutting Knife Holder with knife preinstalled

5. Label roll holders (Assembly required)

6. Large Roll Hub

7. Small Roll Hub

8. T8 Allen Key and two screws

9. Printed documentation

Some light assembly is required to install the roll holders on your PRIMERA LX610. Follow these steps:

1. Set the printer on its front so the bottom is facing you.

2. Install the movable label roll holder by attaching the hooked end on the rail. The bottom of the holder will fit in the notch on the printer.

3. Slide the Roll Holder to the far right.

4. Install the roll guide by attaching the hooked end on the rail. The bottom of the holder will fit in the notch on the printer.

5. Slide the Guide to the stop.

6. Locate the remaining roll holder with the protruding wire. Connect the wire to the port on the printer. Tuck the wire inside the cavity.

7. Snap the holder in place so the two screw holes line up with the holes on the printer.

8. Install the T8 screws using the included Allen key or a Torx T8 screwdriver.

9. Rotate the printer back on its feet.

The control panel on your PRIMERA LX610 has the following functions:

• Power LED: Indicates that the printer is on and ready to receive print jobs.

• Ink LED: Illuminates when a cartridge has 10% or less of its ink remaining.

• Pause Button: Pressed to pause a job to allow for loading of label stock and ink cartridges. The printer pauses after the printing of the current label has finished.

• Feed Button: Pressed to load label stock if the printer does not automatically detect it. When stock is loaded, each press of the button will cause one label or a few inches to be fed through the printer.

• Unload Button: Pressed to unload label stock after you receive an “End of Roll” message in PrintHub. The printer will reverse the label stock through the feed area.

Follow these steps to install Digital Die-Cutting Label Stock:

1. Move the roll holder to the preset position for on-demand digital die-cutting (3rd mark from the left – 1.25”).

2. The Digital Die Cutting Media comes with a black hub with a green chip. Install the Blue Hub on the open side of the digital die-cutting media. The green hub is not needed for digital die-cutting and can be stored in the notch on the movable holder.

3. Set the roll in place so that the blue pin on the Blue Hub sits in the notch on the roll holder.

4. Make sure the green chip holder on the media fits in the corresponding green slot on the fixed roll holder.

5. Before feeding the stock, plug in the power cable and switch on the printer.

6. Guide the leading edge of the roll into the feed area. Move the blue guide on the throat to the far side of the stock.

7. Push the stock until the printer detects it, grabs it, and pulls it through the printer.

To install Pre Die-Cut Label Stock on your PRIMERA LX610, follow these instructions:

1. Move the movable roll holder to the approximate position that matches the width of the stock you are installing. You can fine-tune this later.

2. Install the Green Hub on the right side of the pre die-cut media.

3. Install the Blue Hub on the left side of the media.

4. Set the roll in place so that the blue pin on the Blue Hub sits in the notch on the roll holder.

5. Make sure the green blank chip holder on the Green Hub fits in the corresponding green slot on the fixed roll holder.

6. Before feeding the stock, plug in the power cable and switch on the printer.

7. Guide the leading edge of the roll into the feed area. Move the blue guide on the throat so that it touches the label stock. Note the position of the label sensor; slide the sensor position indicator so that it intersects with the gaps between your labels.

8. Push the stock until the printer detects it, grabs it, and pulls it through the printer.

To replace the knife holder on your PRIMERA LX610, follow these steps:

1. Open the printer cover.

2. Pull out on the blue handle to loosen the knife collar.

3. Install the new knife holder into the die cutting carriage.

4. Push on the knife holder so it goes all the way down before pushing the collar in.

5. Push the collar in to tighten the knife holder and allow it to cut.

You should replace the cutting knife when it becomes dull, which will result in ragged cuts or cuts that do not go all the way through the label material. You may also need to replace the knife if the tip is broken, which can happen if it cuts through the liner and contacts the wear strip.

To replace the knife, follow this procedure:

1. Remove the knife holder from the carrier.

2. Rotate the cap of the knife holder counter-clockwise.

3. Remove the old knife from the holder. You can tap the holder on a hard surface to free the knife.

4. Locate a new knife. Remove the molded plastic cover from the knife. Be careful as both ends are sharp. The cutting end has an angled carbide tip, and the top end comes to a point.

5. Insert the cutting end into the knife holder.

6. Using the knife holder cap, center the back end (the pointed end) of the knife in the holder. You may need to screw down the cap and reverse it several times until the knife has been centered. Do not force the cap, as the carbide tip will break. A very light amount of force is necessary to secure the knife holder cap.

You can replace cartridges at any time or wait for the Low Ink Warning. To change a cartridge in your PRIMERA LX610, follow this procedure:

1. Open the front cover. The cartridge carriage will automatically move to the right side if it is not already there.

2. Press or pinch the tab on the front of the cartridge holder.

3. Remove the old cartridge.

4. Locate a new cartridge and remove it from its packaging. Remove the foil outer package and the tape covering the nozzles.

5. Place the new cartridge into the empty carriage. When installing, tilt the cartridge at a slight backward angle of approximately 30 degrees.

6. Make sure the cartridge is pushed back far enough so the ridge on the cartridge is behind the spring-loaded pusher on the lid. Push down on the cartridge. Close the lid on the cartridge by lightly pressing down from the top until you hear a click.

If you are using label stock other than standard square or rectangular die-cut labels (such as circular labels or through-hole stock), you must adjust the position of the label stock gap sensor. The sensor can be adjusted using the slide bar on the back of the printer. You must adjust the sensor before loading the label stock.

Below the slide bar is a measurement representing the distance from the edge of the label stock to the sensor. Measure the distance from the edge of your label stock to the correct sensing position on the stock. Set the sensor so the side of the slide bar lines up with this measurement.

For circular labels, you must adjust the stock sensor to correspond with the very top of the label where the circles are closest together. If the sensor is too far to the right or left, the printer might still sense the label, but the image may be offset downward.

The sensor can only be moved a maximum of 2 inches from the left side of the printable area. This means the maximum diameter circular label that can be printed is 4 inches. For circular labels larger than 4 inches, you must have a black mark printed on the back of the label stock and change the Stock Sensor Mode to Reflective.

Knife pressure affects how deep the knife cuts into the media. Ideally, you want to cut through the label layer but not through the backing paper. To adjust knife pressure on your PRIMERA LX610:

1. Open the Primera PrintHub application.

2. Go to the “Printer Settings” tab for the LX610.

3. Click the “Advanced Settings” button.

4. Under “XY Cutter Settings”, you will find “Knife Pressure”. Adjust this value as needed. Each roll of media will have a recommended value to add or subtract from the default baseline value of zero.

To determine if the cut pressure needs to be changed:

1. Print and Cut one copy and try to peel the label from the liner.

2. If the label tears when you remove it, you need to increase the cut pressure. Increase it in small increments.

3. Check the liner. If the liner has been cut through, you need to decrease the pressure.

4. Continue adjusting the pressure until the label no longer tears when removed and the liner is not cut through.

Note: As the knife blade wears over time, you may need to add more cut pressure to achieve the same cutting depth as when it was new.

You can use the Primera PrintHub application to estimate the cost per label. The cost estimator is found under the queue section on the first tab of PrintHub. The last five job costs are stored in the list. Each job will show the cost per label based on the cost per cartridge you enter below the list. Simply enter the actual cost you paid for the cartridge to see the accurate cost per label for past jobs.

The stock sensor mode determines how the PRIMERA LX610 detects the starting position for each label. To adjust this setting, open the PrintHub application and go to the “Label Feed” tab. There are three sensor modes:

• Die-Cut (Default): Use this setting for standard die-cut labels, regardless of size. This setting is also used for through-hole label material where a hole is punched through each label or a notch is cut in the side.

• Reflective: Use this setting for label material that has a black pre-printed line (black mark) on the back of the stock to indicate the break between labels. Black marks are required for clear label stock, labels where the waste matrix is left on the liner, irregular shaped labels, or circles larger than 4 inches.

• Continuous (Sensor off): Use this setting if you have continuous stock with no die-cut, reflective mark, or holes. This turns off the stock sensor. The printer starts printing the first label and each subsequent label immediately after the previous one. The printer will automatically switch to this setting when Digital Die Cutting Label Stock is installed.

You can adjust how the PRIMERA LX610 presents or cuts labels using the Present/Cut Mode in the PrintHub program. Open PrintHub and go to the “Label Feed” Tab. The options change depending on whether the cutter is enabled or disabled.

Cutter Options (when Cutter is enabled):

• Cut after button press: This setting will cut after you press the Load/Feed button on the printer. This can be used after one label or an entire job.

• Cut after label count: This option will cut after the number of labels specified in the toggle box that appears.

• Cut after no activity: This setting will cut at the end of a print job if the printer does not receive another print job within one second.

• Cut every label: This setting will cut after every label.

Present Options (when Cutter is disabled):

• Do not present: The label stock does not move after the last label is printed. This should be used only if you have a label rewinder attached.

• Present after no activity: This setting will feed all printed labels past the front opening at the end of a print job if the printer does not receive another job within one second.

You can fine-tune the print alignment for your PRIMERA LX610 using the PrintHub application. Go to the “Print Alignment” tab (the second tab). You can click “Test Alignment” to print a test pattern. The following settings can be adjusted:

1. Left Margin Offset: This value moves the printed label left or right. Add to the current value to move the printed label to the right. Subtract from the current value to move the printed label to the left.

2. Top of Form (TOF): This value moves the print start position up or down on the label. Add to the current value to move the printed label down (toward the printer). Subtract from the current value to move the printed label up (away from the printer).

3. Tear off/Cut Position: This value adjusts the position of the last label printed after it has been presented (only applies if the output mode is set to “Present the label”). Add to the current value to move the tear point closer to the printer. Subtract to move it away.

To use the PTCreate software with your PRIMERA LX610, you will need to activate it. The activation code for the Standard Version can be found on a card with your printed material or on a label on the bottom of your printer.

To activate, either follow the activation prompt that appears when you open the software or go to the Help Menu and select Activate. An activation window will appear. Enter your 30-digit activation code with the dashes included and click OK. Activation requires an internet connection.

Follow these steps to set up a print and cut project in PTCreate Standard:

1. Choose a Label Size: When you open the software, choose “New Project”. Set your page size. Since all die cutting media is 4.25” wide, the width is set. Set the height to be slightly larger than your intended label to allow for a bleed.

2. Import an Image: Go to the File Menu and choose “Import”. Browse to your image file (JPG, BMP, PNG, TIF, GIF) and open it. Use the Position and Size window to resize the image and center it on the page.

3. Add a Cut Line: Right-click on the rectangle tool and choose “Rounded Rectangle”. Set your desired corner radius before drawing. Draw a rectangle over your design. Then, use the Position and Size window to set the exact dimensions for your final label. A typical size is 1/16” smaller than the print image to ensure the cut is within the printed area. Center the cut line on the page.

4. Print: Go to the File Menu and choose “Print”. In the print dialog, ensure “Print+Cut” is selected. You can click the “Properties” button to access printer driver settings like print quality.

To create a label that completely fills the space with no white margins on pre-die-cut stock, you need to adjust several settings in the printer driver and status monitor (PrintHub). This process is often called “over bleeding”.

1. Page Size: Increase the page size width and height by .03 inches (1mm) more than the actual label size. This can be done in your printing application’s Page Setup or in the printer driver preferences.

2. Left Margin Offset: You must decrease the left margin offset to center the over bleed on the label. If you over bleed by .03 inches, you will need to decrease the Left Margin Offset in PrintHub by 0.4mm. This centers the page size increase so there is an over bleed on both the left and right sides.

3. TOF (Top of Form): In PrintHub, increase the Top of Form value by 0.4mm. This will cause the printer to start printing slightly before the label, ensuring a fully printed top edge.

Note: It is best to over bleed as little as possible to avoid excess ink on the label backing. Over bleeding too much can cause the printer to skip labels because it may stop printing too late to sense the next label gap.

You can access the PRIMERA LX610 printer driver settings through your application’s print menu or via the Windows “Printers & scanners” settings. The main options are:

• Paper Size: Set this to the dimensions of your label. Dimensions are always relative to the width and height of the actual label in the printer.

• Orientation: Choose between Portrait and Landscape. If your design prints left to right as shown on screen, select Portrait. To rotate the print 90 degrees, select Landscape.

• Print Quality: There are 4 levels. Quality 1 is the fastest, and Quality 4 is the best quality. Quality 2 is the default and offers a good balance of speed and quality.

• Color Matching:

– Vivid Graphics: Best for graphical images where accurate color is less essential. Images will look more vibrant.

– Vivid Photos: Best for photographic images where accurate color reproduction is essential. Skin tones will look more natural.

– ICC Options (Gloss Paper, Gloss Polyester, Matte Bopp): ICC calibrated options for specific Primera media types.

– -NONE-: Will use no color matching.

• Ink Saturation: Controls the amount of ink used. The default is 100%. Decrease this if the ink is not drying fast enough or is “bleeding”.

• Rotate 180 Degrees: Set to “Yes” to print with the labels right side up as they exit the printer.

• Enable Bi-di: Set to “Yes” for the fastest print speed. Set to “No” for better quality print in some cases.

A vertical offset on your PRIMERA LX610 can be caused by several issues related to how the printer detects the start of a label. Check the following:

1. TOF Offset: TOF (Top of Form) can be adjusted in the PrintHub. Increase the setting to move the image down; decrease it to move the image up.

2. Nonstandard Backing Material: The label sensor needs to see a difference in light passing through the label versus the backing. If your backing is not translucent enough, the sensor may fail. Try using a label stock with a black mark on the back and set the Sensor Type to Reflective.

3. Improper Label Gap Distance: If the gap between labels is too small, it may not be detected properly. Refer to the label specifications.

4. Page Size is Bigger than Label Stock Size: If the page size in the driver is larger than the actual label, ink will be printed on the gaps, and the sensor will start looking for the next gap too late. This can cause skipping or inconsistent starting points.

5. Portrait / Landscape Setting: If this setting does not correspond to the label stock orientation, the printer may print over the gap.

6. Sensor Position: For circular or nonstandard label shapes, the label sensor requires precise adjustment. Ensure it is positioned correctly over a part of the label that allows it to sense the gap properly.

If you see white space on the left or right side of your printed label, the issue is a horizontal offset. This can be caused by two settings:

• Left Margin Offset: This adjustment is found in the PrintHub application under the Print Alignment tab. If you see white space on the right side of the label, increase the number. If you see white space on the left side, decrease the number (negative numbers are allowed).

• Page Size: Often, the page size set in the printer driver is not large enough for the label. If you see white space on the right side of the label and no image overlap on the left, it indicates the page size needs to be increased. Increase the page size in the printer preferences to cover the entire label.

The wear strip is the surface directly underneath the cutting blade and wears down over time due to knife pressure. To replace it:

1. Remove any media from the cutter mechanism.

2. Power off the printer.

3. Push the knife carrier gently to the left.

4. Grab one end of the old wear strip and pull it off the cutter. A utility knife may be needed to get under the strip to start.

5. The wear strip is held by adhesive. Clean off any adhesive residue with isopropyl alcohol.

6. Remove the liner from the new wear strip.

7. Press the new strip into place, ensuring it is fully seated in the recessed pocket.

To keep your PRIMERA LX610 in good condition, perform the following maintenance:

• Label Cut Dust: Label cut dust can accumulate along the cut path. Paper media creates more dust than synthetic material. Periodically vacuum the cutter area and rollers to prevent buildup that could eventually cause problems with moving parts.

• Cleaning the Printer Case: The case of the printer can be cleaned with an ammonia-based window cleaner and a lint-free cloth.

• Ink Overspray: Over time, ink overspray may gather at the base of the printer. The printer uses a vacuum system to gather most of this ink on a series of saturation pads. Eventually, these pads may need to be replaced. Contact technical support to determine if pad replacement is necessary.

If you notice reduced print quality, or if the cartridge has been out of the printer for more than 30 minutes, the nozzles may be dried or clogged. Follow these steps:

1. Ensure the ink level of the cartridge is more than 10%. If it’s lower, replace the cartridge.

2. Try cleaning the cartridge using the “Clean” function in the PrintHub application.

3. Print your image. If it still has missing colors or voids, remove the cartridge and proceed to the next step.

4. Prepare two paper towels folded four times each and a glass of water.

5. Soak one paper towel in water for 5 seconds.

6. Place the wet paper towel on the cartridge nozzles. Gently press the paper towel with your finger and leave it on the nozzles for 30-40 seconds.

7. Wipe the nozzles. To do this:

a. Place the second, dry paper towel on a flat, hard surface.

b. Press the nozzles into the paper towel.

c. Firmly tap the top of the cartridge three times to force the ink out.

d. Wipe/Drag the cartridge in one direction on the paper towel.

e. Repeat until all three colors (cyan, magenta, yellow) are seen on the paper towel. If all three colors are not present after several attempts, replace the cartridge.

8. Dry any excess water from the cartridge. Ensure the cartridge contacts are completely dry before reinserting it into the printer to avoid damage.

9. Verify that the cartridge is functioning properly by printing your label again.
