Only multi-voltage models of the PIONEER TX-V70 are provided with this switch, which is found on the rear panel. U.S., Canadian, European, U.K., and Australian models are not provided with this switch. Before plugging in the power cord, check that the switch is set properly for your area’s voltage requirements. If you need to adjust it, follow these steps:

1. Before adjusting, disconnect the power cord.

2. Use a medium-size screwdriver.

3. Insert the screwdriver into the arrow on the switch and turn it until it points to the voltage value of your area (110V, 120V, 220V, or 240V).

The serial number for your PIONEER TX-V70 is located on the rear panel. Please write this serial number on your enclosed warranty card and keep it in a secure area for your security.

To prevent electric shock, do not use the polarized plug on your PIONEER TX-V70 with an extension cord, receptacle, or other outlet unless the blades can be fully inserted to prevent blade exposure.

To connect the included FM T-type antenna and AM Loop antenna:

1. For both antennas, locate the wire ends.

2. Wrap the end of the wire in a clockwise direction around the base of the corresponding terminals on the back of the PIONEER TX-V70.

3. Tighten the terminals to secure the wires.

FM T-type Antenna:

Stretch both ends of the T-type antenna taut and affix them to a wall or other surface.

AM Loop Antenna:

1. Unfold all four legs of the AM loop antenna toward the outside.

2. Insert the stopper inside the legs into the hole in the AM loop antenna to fix it in position.

3. Set the antenna on a level surface and point it in the direction that gives optimum reception.

4. Do not install the antenna in locations where it touches the cover of the tuner or other metal objects, or near a CD player, personal computer, or television set.

Although grounding is not necessary for reception, it is recommended for protection against damage from lightning if an outdoor FM antenna is used. Grounding is also recommended to help reduce noise and hum.

NOTE: Never make the ground connection to a gas pipe as sparks could cause the gas to ignite.

This switch has been preset before shipping. If the switch is set incorrectly, the reception frequency display will not stop, and reception may sound unnatural. Before using the unit, check that the switch is set properly for your area:

(100/10 kHz)/75 µs: For North America and Continental South America

(50/9 kHz)/50 µs: For Other areas

When there is noise or poor reception of an FM stereo broadcast because the station is far away or for other reasons, press the HIGH BLEND switch for greater clarity of reception.

NOTE:

The HIGH BLEND switch functions only when you are receiving an FM stereo broadcast.

The ON or OFF status of the HIGH BLEND switch will be memorized when you preset a station. This allows you to always tune in to that FM broadcast under the same conditions.

This method automatically searches for your desired station.

1. Turn on the POWER of the PIONEER TX-V70 and the stereo amplifier.

2. Select your desired broadcasting band (FM or AM) using the FUNCTION switches.

3. Press the MANUAL/AUTO selector so that the AUTO indicator lights.

4. Press the FREQUENCY/CHANNEL selector so that the CHANNEL indicator goes out.

5. Press the “+” or “-” TUNING switch. The tuner will automatically search for a station and tune in to it. By pressing “+”, the frequency will move upwards; by pressing “-“, the frequency will move downwards. Each time the switch is pressed, the next higher (or lower) frequency station will be tuned in.

Caution with Auto-Search: Since this is a highly sensitive mechanism, the search operation may stop on weak broadcasts, particularly at night, or due to frequency noise in large cities. For very weak stations, use the manual tuning mode.

1. Turn on the POWER of the PIONEER TX-V70 and the stereo amplifier.

2. Select your desired broadcasting band (FM or AM) using the FUNCTION switches.

3. Press the MANUAL/AUTO selector so that the AUTO indicator goes out.

4. Press the FREQUENCY/CHANNEL selector so that the CHANNEL indicator goes out.

5. Use the TUNING switches “-” or “+” to locate the frequency of your desired station. For step-by-step searching, press the switch once and release it. For continuous rapid scanning, keep the switch pressed. The TUNED indicator will light up when the desired station is tuned in best.

You can preset a total of up to 16 stations (e.g., 8 FM and 8 AM stations).

1. Turn on power to the PIONEER TX-V70 and the stereo amplifier.

2. Select the broadcasting band (FM or AM) to be memorized using the FUNCTION switch.

3. Tune in the desired station using either Auto-Search or Manual tuning.

4. For FM stereo broadcasts, set the HIGH BLEND switch to the position that provides optimum listening conditions. This setting will also be saved.

5. Press the station mode SELECT switch to select Mode 1 (stations 1-8) or Mode 2 (stations 9-16).

6. Press the MEMORY switch. The MEMORY indicator will light.

7. While the MEMORY indicator is lit, press the STATION CALL switch (1 through 16) where you wish to preset the station.

8. Repeat steps 2 to 7 to preset other stations.

Note: If a preset switch is already in use, presetting a new station will automatically erase the old data.

1. Press the FREQUENCY/CHANNEL and MANUAL/AUTO selectors so that both indicators light up.

2. Press the “+” or “-” TUNING switch.

The PIONEER TX-V70 will search for the frequency of each preset station. Each station will be tuned in successively, and its channel number and frequency (MHz or kHz) will be displayed for about 5 seconds. You can observe this display to check if the desired stations have been tuned in.

Simply press the STATION CALL switch corresponding to the previously preset station you wish to hear. If you are recalling a station from 9 to 16, make sure to press the station mode SELECT switch to select Mode 2 first.

This feature allows you to scan through your preset stations and listen to each broadcast.

1. Turn on power to the PIONEER TX-V70 and the stereo amplifier.

2. Press the FREQUENCY/CHANNEL and MANUAL/AUTO selectors so that both indicators light up.

3. Press the “+” or “-” TUNING switch. The PIONEER TX-V70 will tune to each preset station in sequence.

4. As each preset station is tuned in, press the corresponding STATION CALL switch to stop scanning and listen to the broadcast.

This feature allows you to manually tune through each preset station in sequence.

1. Turn on power to the PIONEER TX-V70 and to the stereo amplifier.

2. Press the MANUAL/AUTO selector so that the AUTO indicator goes out.

3. Press the FREQUENCY/CHANNEL selector so that the CHANNEL indicator lights.

4. Press the “+” or “-” TUNING switch to move to the next or previous preset station in the sequence.

When you press the POWER switch to turn the PIONEER TX-V70 on, the last station you were listening to before the power was turned off will be received again. Similarly, if the power is ON and you press a FUNCTION switch, the last station received on that band will be received again.

NOTE:

Preset stations will be retained in memory when the POWER is switched to STAND-BY as long as the power cord is not disconnected. The electrical circuit controlling the MEMORY function is powered by a back-up condenser that will retain preset stations for a few weeks if the unit is unplugged. If a preset station has been erased, you must reset it.

To use the preset station call function via remote control, you need to connect the PIONEER TX-V70 with the Pioneer SA-V70 Audio/Video Master Control Amplifier.

1. Connect the REMOTE CONTROL OUT jack of the SA-V70 to the CONTROL IN jack of the TX-V70, using the cord supplied.

2. Connect the CONTROL OUT jack of the TX-V70 to the CONTROL IN jack of other Pioneer components equipped with this facility. The IN and OUT CONTROL jacks can be connected in any order, but components having only a CONTROL IN jack should be connected last.

To control the PIONEER TX-V70 + SA-V70 combination:

1. Use the appropriate source selection button on the remote to select FM or AM reception. The “FM-AM” indicator will light.

2. Press the remote’s power button to turn ON the system.

3. Select “FM/AM”. This switches the input on the SA-V70 side.

4. Use the number keys (1-8) on the remote to select a preset FM/AM radio station. The display panel on the remote shows numbers 1-8, but for stations 9-16, pressing a key (e.g., key ‘1’) will select the corresponding higher station (e.g., station ‘9’). Whether station 1-8 or 9-16 is selected is indicated on the PIONEER TX-V70’s display.

Indoor vs. Outdoor Antennas: If FM reception is poor with the accessory T-type antenna, you may not be in a good reception area. Setting up a good outdoor FM antenna will likely solve this problem.

FM Antenna Connections: A 75-ohm coaxial cable is recommended over a 300-ohm twin-lead feeder because it is more immune to noise and interference from external sources.

Grounding: Grounding is recommended if FM program reception is impaired by noise. Connect a thick polyvinyl insulated wire to the GND terminal and attach the other end to a metal water pipe or grounding bar. Never connect a ground wire to a gas pipe.

Outdoor AM Antennas: The accessory AM loop antenna is sufficient in strong-signal areas. However, an outdoor AM antenna should be erected if surrounding objects interfere with reception or if stations are distant and their signals are weak. Do not detach the AM loop antenna when using an outdoor AM antenna.

Check if the power cord has been disconnected. If so, reconnect the power cord securely.

Please check the following:

Output Cords: Have any of the output cords been disconnected or incorrectly connected? Connect them properly to the TUNER terminals on the amplifier.

Antenna Connection: Has the antenna been disconnected or is the connection loose? Connect the antenna properly.

Station Memory: Has the power switch been left off for several days, causing the station memory to be lost? If so, reprogram the station memory.

If you hear static, check if the station is properly tuned in to the correct frequency. If not, tune in the station correctly.

Sound distortion on the FM band can be caused by several issues:

Antenna Position: Is the FM T-type antenna still folded up, not extended, or facing the wrong direction? Extend the two ends of the antenna and/or change its direction until the best reception is obtained.

Weak Signals: Are the signals weak and reception poor? Substitute an FM outdoor antenna for the FM T-type antenna.

Interference (Multipath): Static from other appliances (like automobiles) or multipath reflection (radio waves bouncing off mountains/buildings) can cause distortion. Try varying the height and direction of the antenna or use an outdoor FM antenna with a 75-ohm coaxial cable, fixing it as far away as possible from the street.

If you experience sound distortion on the AM band, check the following:

AM Loop Antenna Position: Is the AM loop antenna positioned poorly? Change the direction of the antenna until the best reception is obtained. Also, ensure the accessory AM loop antenna is not in contact with the tuner; separate it as far as possible.

Weak Signals: Are the signals weak and reception poor? Fix an AM outdoor antenna or ground the antenna.

Electrical Interference: Is there static from other electrical appliances (fluorescent lights, motors)? Switch off other appliances or keep them as far away as possible from the tuner when in use.

If you are not receiving stereo broadcasts in stereo, please check these points:

Signal Strength: Are the signals weak, with insufficient input? You may need to change to an outdoor FM antenna.

Tuning: Is the frequency tuned in properly? Tune to the station accurately.
