12. Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.

13. Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

14. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Servicing is required when the apparatus has been damaged in any way, such as power-supply cord or plug is damaged, liquid has been spilled or objects have fallen into the apparatus, the apparatus has been exposed to rain or moisture, does not operate normally, or has been dropped.

15. Battery usage CAUTION – To prevent battery leakage which may result in bodily injury, property damage, or damage to the unit: Install all batteries correctly, + and – as marked on the unit. Do not mix batteries (old and new or carbon and alkaline, etc.). Remove batteries when the unit is not used for a long time.

16. Batteries (battery pack or batteries installed) shall not be exposed to excessive heat such as sunshine, fire or the like.

17. Apparatus shall not be exposed to dripping or splashing.

18. Do not place any sources of danger on the apparatus (e.g. liquid filled objects, lighted candles).

Using headphones at a high volume can impair your hearing. This product can produce sounds in decibel ranges that may cause hearing loss for a normal person, even for exposure less than a minute. The higher decibel ranges are offered for those that may have already experienced some hearing loss. Sound can be deceiving. Over time your hearing ‘comfort level’ adapts to higher volumes of sound. So after prolonged listening, what sounds ‘normal’ can actually be loud and harmful to your hearing. To guard against this, set your volume to a safe level before your hearing adapts and leave it there.

To establish a safe volume level:

Set your volume control at a low setting.

Slowly increase the sound until you can hear it comfortably and clearly, without distortion.

Listen for reasonable periods of time:

Prolonged exposure to sound, even at normally ‘safe’ levels, can also cause hearing loss.

Be sure to use your equipment reasonably and take appropriate breaks.

Be sure to observe the following guidelines when using your headphones:

Caution:

Display panel: The screen for viewing video.

SETUP: Accesses or exits the setup menu.

STOP: Stops disc play.

SUBTITLE: Selects DVD subtitle language.

OPTIONS: Accesses options relating to the current activity or selection.

DC IN: Power supply socket.

Headphone jack (symbolized by headphones): Connection for headphones.

AV OUT: Audio/video output jack.

VOLUME …: Increases or decreases volume.

POWER ON/OFF (CHR): Turns on/off DVD player.

CHR/Power Indicator (symbolized by a lightning bolt): Charging indicator/Power indicator.

Directional buttons (Up, Down, Left, Right): Navigates menus. During playback, the left and right buttons search backward/forward at different speeds.

►II/OK: Confirms an entry or selection. Starts, pauses or resumes disc play.

Previous/Next buttons (symbolized by |◄ and ►|): Skips to the previous or next title, chapter, or track.

DISC MENU: For DVD, accesses or exits disc menu. For VCD, turns on or off PBC (Playback Control) mode. For VCD version 2.0 or SVCD with PBC turned on, returns to the menu.

AUDIO: For DVD, select an audio language. For VCD, select an audio mode.

OPEN ►: Opens the disc compartment.

To use the player in a car, attach the main unit to the back of the front seat headrest.

1. Pull the strap through the loops on the back of the main unit.

2. Hold the buckle with the marked arrow facing you, then attach the buckle to the strap.

3. Position the main unit at the back of the headrest, then fasten the buckle.

4. Pull the strap to secure the main unit to the headrest.

Note: You can only charge the player when it is in power-off mode. Use only the supplied AC adaptor to charge the battery.

1. Slide the POWER ON/OFF (CHR) switch to the OFF (CHR) position.

2. Connect the supplied AC adaptor to the player and to the AC outlet.

The charge indicator turns on. It takes about 4.5 hours to fully charge the battery. When the battery is fully charged, the charge indicator turns off.

You can connect the PHILIPS PD703 to a TV or an amplifier to enjoy DVDs or Karaoke. Turn off your player before connecting any additional equipment. The AV cables needed to connect to a TV are not supplied.

Match the color of the AV cables with the jacks:

The yellow cable is for the yellow video jack.

The red/white cable is for the red/white audio jacks.

Connect the AV cable from the AV OUT jack on the player to the corresponding AUDIO IN and VIDEO IN jacks on your TV or amplifier.

Slide the POWER ON/OFF (CHR) switch to the ON position. The power indicator will turn on.

You can choose a different language for the on-screen display text.

1. Press SETUP. The setup menu appears.

2. Select [General] > [Language].

3. Press the directional buttons to select an option.

4. Press ►II/OK to confirm.

5. Press SETUP to exit.

1. Slide OPEN ► on the player.

2. Insert the disc with the label side facing up.

3. Push down to close the disc compartment.

Play starts automatically. If not, press ►II/OK.

If a menu appears, select an item, then press ►II/OK to start play.

To pause, press ►II/OK. Press again to resume play.

To stop, press STOP twice.

To select the previous/next item, press |◄ or ►|.

To start search within video/audio, press ◄ or ► once or more.

1. During play, press OPTIONS to select some play options.

2. Follow the on-screen instructions.

To maximize your play experience, use SETUP to fine-tune your settings.

1. Press SETUP. The setup menu is displayed.

2. Use navigation keys to select an option and press OK to confirm.

4. Press SETUP to exit.

If you encounter no power on your device, check the following points:

Ensure that both plugs of the mains cord are properly connected.

Ensure that there is power at the AC outlet.

Check if the built-in battery is drained.

If there is no sound, ensure that the AV cable is connected correctly.

If the picture is distorted, try the following steps:

Clean the disc. With a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the disc outwards from the center.

Make sure that the video output format of the disc is compatible with the TV.

Change the video output format to match your TV or program.

Note: The LCD is manufactured using high precision technology. You may, however, see tiny black points and/or bright points (red, blue, green) that continuously appear on the LCD. This is a normal result of the manufacturing process and does not indicate a malfunction.

If the player cannot play a disc, try these solutions:

Ensure the disc label is upwards.

Clean the disc. With a clean, soft, lint-free cloth, wipe the disc outwards from the center.

Check if the disc is defective by trying another disc.

When the player is in use for a long period of time, its surface will be heated. This is normal.
