Power Requirements:

• The PHILIPS M550 requires an electrical supply of 100-240 volts AC. In case of a power failure, communication can be lost.

• The voltage on the network is classified as TNV-3 (Telecommunication Network Voltages), as defined in the standard EN 60950.

• The Electrical network is classified as hazardous. The only way to power down the charger is to unplug the power supply from the electrical outlet. Ensure that the electrical outlet is always easily accessible.

To Avoid Damage or Malfunction:

• Use only the power supply listed in the user instructions.

• Use only the batteries listed in the user instructions.

• There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Dispose of used batteries according to the instructions.

• Do not dispose of batteries in fire.

• Always use the cables provided with the product.

• Do not allow the charging contacts or the battery to come into contact with metal objects.

• Do not let small metal objects come into contact with the product as this can deteriorate audio quality and damage the product.

• Do not use the product in places where there are explosive hazards.

• Do not open the handset, base station, or charger as you could be exposed to high voltages.

• For pluggable equipment, the socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.

• Handsfree activation could suddenly increase the volume in the earpiece to a very high level: make sure the handset is not too close to your ear.

• This equipment is not designed to make emergency calls when the power fails.

• Do not allow the product to come into contact with liquids.

• Do not use any cleaning agents containing alcohol, ammonia, benzene, or abrasives as these may harm the set.

• Do not expose the phone to excessive heat caused by heating equipment or direct sunlight.

• Do not drop your phone or allow objects to fall on your phone.

• Operate the PHILIPS M550 in a place where the temperature is always between 0°C to +40°C (up to 90% relative humidity).

• Store the PHILIPS M550 in a place where the temperature is always between -20°C and +45°C (up to 95% relative humidity).

• Battery life may be shorter in low-temperature conditions.

• Earpiece: Allows you to hear the caller.

• REDIAL/C: Delete text or digits, cancel an operation, or access the redial list.

• End call key: Ends a call, exits the menu/operation, or press and hold to switch the handset on or off.

• Down/Call log key: Scroll down in the menu, decrease earpiece/speaker volume, or access the call log in standby mode.

• # a/A key: Press and hold to enter a pause. Switch between upper/lower case during editing.

• Mute key: Mute or unmute the microphone.

• Microphone: Captures your voice.

• Battery door opening: Slot to open the battery compartment.

• Speakerphone key: Turn the speakerphone on/off. Make and receive calls through the speaker.

• * INT key: Press and hold to make an intercom call (for multi-handset versions). Set the dial mode (pulse or temporary tone).

• 0 key: Press to enter a space during text editing. Press and hold to lock/unlock the keypad in standby mode.

• Talk/Recall key: Make and receive calls. Acts as a Recall key.

• MENU/OK: Access the main menu, confirm a selection, enter the options menu, or select the function displayed on the screen directly above the key.

• Up/Phonebook key: Scroll up in the menu, increase the earpiece/speaker volume, or access the phonebook in standby mode.

• Loudspeaker: For handsfree calls.

• LED indicator:

– Off: no new event.

– On: for two seconds when putting the handset on the base station.

– Flashing: new missed calls/new messages on answering machine, new voicemails, new text messages (if applicable).

– Flashing quickly: new incoming call.

• Handset back cover: Covers the battery compartment.

The base station of the PHILIPS M550 has one main button with two functions:

• Find handsets: Press the button to page all registered handsets.

• Registration mode: Press and hold the button to enter registration mode for adding new handsets.

Before connecting, ensure you have read the safety instructions.

1. Connect one end of the power adapter to the DC input jack at the bottom of the base station and the other end to a power socket on the wall.

2. Connect one end of the line cord to the telephone socket at the bottom of the base station and the other end to the telephone socket on the wall.

3. For multi-handset versions, connect the power adapter for the extra charger to the DC input jack at the bottom of the charger and the other end to a power socket on the wall.

Note: If you have DSL high-speed internet, ensure you install a DSL filter between the telephone line cord and the power socket to prevent noise and caller ID problems.

Install Handset and Batteries

The batteries come pre-installed. Pull the battery tape off from the battery door before charging. The batteries should be charged for 8 hours before first use.

Configure Your Phone

1. When using your phone for the first time, you will see a welcome message.

2. Press MENU/OK.

3. Set Country/Language: Select your country/language, then press MENU/OK to confirm. The setting is saved.

4. Set Date and Time:

– Press MENU/OK.

– Select [Phone setup] > [Date & time], then press MENU/OK.

– Press the numeric buttons to enter the date, then press MENU/OK.

– Press the numeric buttons to enter the time. If it’s a 12-hour format, use the up/down keys to select [am] or [pm].

– Press MENU/OK to confirm.

The default remote access PIN code is 0000. It is important to change it to ensure security.

1. Press MENU/OK.

2. Select [Answ. Machine] > [Remote access] > [Change PIN], then press MENU/OK to confirm.

3. Enter the old PIN/passcode, then press MENU/OK to confirm.

4. Enter the new PIN/passcode, then press MENU/OK to confirm.

5. Enter the new PIN/passcode again, then press MENU/OK to confirm. The setting is saved.

Check the Battery Level

The battery icon on the display shows the current battery level.

• Full to Low Bars: When the handset is off the base station, the bars indicate the battery level (full, medium, and low).

• Flashing Empty Icon: The battery is low and needs recharging.

If you are on a call, you will hear warning tones when the batteries are almost empty. The handset will turn off when the batteries are completely empty.

Check the Signal Strength

The signal strength icon on the display indicates the connection status between the handset and the base station. The more bars shown, the better the connection. Ensure the handset is connected to the base before making calls. If you hear warning tones during a call, the handset may be out of range; move closer to the base station. Note that when ECO+ mode is on, the signal strength is not displayed.

Make a Call

• Normal Call: Press the talk key or speakerphone key, then dial the phone number.

• Predial Call: Dial the phone number first. You can press REDIAL/C to erase a digit or press and hold it to erase all digits. Press and hold #a/A to enter a pause. Then, press the talk key or speakerphone key to dial.

You can also make calls from the redial list, phonebook, or call log.

Answer a Call

When the phone rings, press the talk key or speakerphone key to answer. To silence the ringer for the current call, press REDIAL/C.

End a Call

You can end a call in one of two ways:

• Press the end call key.

• Place the handset back on the base station or charging cradle.

Mute the Microphone

1. During a call, press the mute key. The handset will display [Mute on]. The caller cannot hear you, but you can hear them.

2. Press the mute key again to unmute.

Adjust Earpiece/Speaker Volume

During a call, press the up or down keys to adjust the volume.

Make a Second Call

1. During a call, press the talk key. The first call is put on hold.

2. Dial the second number. The number is dialed out.

Answer a Second Call

When you hear a beep for an incoming call while you are on another call:

• Press the talk key and 2ABC to answer the new call. The first call is put on hold.

• Press the talk key and 1 to end the current call and answer the first call that was on hold.

Switch Between Two Calls

Press the talk key and 2ABC to switch between the two calls. The current call will be put on hold, and you will be connected to the other call.

Make a Conference Call with External Callers

When you are connected to two separate calls, press the talk key, then press 3DEF. The two calls are combined, and a conference call is established.

Make an Intercom Call to Another Handset

1. Press and hold *INT. The available handsets for intercom will be displayed.

2. Select a handset number, then press MENU/OK to confirm. The selected handset will ring.

3. Press the talk key on the called handset. The intercom is established.

4. To end the call, press REDIAL/C or the end call key.

Transfer an External Call

1. During an external call, press and hold *INT. The external call is put on hold.

2. Select a handset number and press MENU/OK.

3. When the other person answers, press the end call key on your handset to transfer the call.

Make a 3-Way Conference Call

1. During an external call, press and hold *INT to initiate an internal call. The external caller is put on hold.

2. Select a handset number and press MENU/OK. Wait for the other handset user to answer.

3. Press the talk key on the other handset to establish the intercom.

4. On your original handset, press MENU/OK to establish the 3-way conference call.

5. Press the end call key to end the conference call.

Enter Text and Numbers

1. Press an alphanumeric key once or several times to enter the desired character.

2. Press REDIAL/C to delete a character, or press and hold it to delete all characters. Use the up and down keys to move the cursor.

3. Press 0 to add a space.

4. To switch between uppercase and lowercase, press and hold #a/A.

View the Phonebook

Press the down key or go to MENU/OK > [Phonebook] > [View] to access the phonebook list.

Search a Record

• Scroll the contact list using the up/down keys.

• Press the alphanumerical key that matches the first character of the contact’s name.

Add a Record

1. Press MENU/OK.

2. Select [Phonebook] > [Add new].

3. Enter the name, then press MENU/OK.

4. Enter the number, then press MENU/OK to save.

Edit a Record

1. Press MENU/OK.

2. Select [Phonebook] > [Edit].

3. Select a contact and press MENU/OK.

4. Edit the name and press MENU/OK.

5. Edit the number and press MENU/OK to save.

Delete a Record

1. Press MENU/OK.

2. Select [Phonebook] > [Delete].

3. Select a contact and press MENU/OK.

4. Press MENU/OK again to confirm the deletion.

Delete All Records

1. Press MENU/OK.

2. Select [Phonebook] > [Delete all].

3. Press MENU/OK to confirm. All records (except direct access memory records) are deleted.

Call Log (Received and Missed Calls)

The call log stores up to 50 records. This feature requires a caller ID service subscription.

• View Call Records: Press the down key. The incoming call log is displayed. Select a record and press MENU/OK, then select [View] for more details.

• Return a Call: In the call log, select a record and press the talk key.

• Save a Record to Phonebook: Select a record, press MENU/OK, select [Save number], and follow the prompts to enter a name and save.

• Delete a Record: Select a record, press MENU/OK, select [Delete], and press MENU/OK to confirm.

• Delete All Records: In the call log, press MENU/OK, select [Delete all], and press MENU/OK to confirm.

Redial List (Dialed Calls)

The redial list stores up to 20 of the last dialed numbers.

• View Records and Redial: Press REDIAL/C. The list of dialed calls is displayed. Select a record and press the talk key to redial.

• Save a Record to Phonebook: In the redial list, select a record, press MENU/OK, press MENU/OK again, select [Save number], and follow the prompts.

• Delete a Record: Select a record, press MENU/OK, press MENU/OK again, select [Delete], and press MENU/OK to confirm.

• Delete All Records: In the redial list, press MENU/OK, press MENU/OK again, select [Delete all], and press MENU/OK to confirm.

Sound Settings

• Ringtone Volume: Go to MENU/OK > [Phone setup] > [Sounds] > [Ring volume]. Select a level (or [Off]) and press MENU/OK.

• Ringtone Melody: Go to MENU/OK > [Phone setup] > [Sounds] > [Ring tones]. Select a ringtone and press MENU/OK.

• Key Tone: Go to MENU/OK > [Phone setup] > [Sounds] > [Key tone]. Select [On] or [Off] and press MENU/OK.

• Docking Tone: Go to MENU/OK > [Phone setup] > [Sounds] > [Docking tone]. Select [On] or [Off] and press MENU/OK.

ECO+ Mode

This mode eliminates radiation from the handset and base station in standby mode. Go to MENU/OK > [Phone setup] > [ECO+ mode]. Select [On] or [Off] and press MENU/OK.

Name the Handset

1. Go to MENU/OK > [Phone setup] > [Phone name].

2. Enter or edit the name (up to 14 characters).

3. Press MENU/OK to save.

Set Display Language

1. Go to MENU/OK > [Phone setup] > [Language].

2. Select a language and press MENU/OK.

Turn Answering Machine On/Off

Go to MENU/OK > [Answ. Machine] > [Voice answer]. Select [Answer only], [Record also], or [Off], then press MENU/OK.

Record an Announcement

1. Go to MENU/OK > [Answ. Machine] > [Announcement].

2. Select [Record also] or [Answer only] and press MENU/OK.

3. Select [Record] and press MENU/OK.

4. Start recording close to the microphone after the beep. Recording stops after 3 minutes or when you press MENU/OK.

Listen to Incoming Messages

1. Go to MENU/OK > [Answ. Machine] > [Play], then press MENU/OK.

2. New messages start playing. During playback:

– Press REDIAL/C to stop.

– Press MENU/OK to enter options (like delete).

– Press up/down keys to adjust volume.

Delete Messages

• Single Message: While listening to a message, press MENU/OK, select [Delete], and press MENU/OK to confirm.

• All Old Messages: Go to MENU/OK > [Answ. Machine] > [Delete all], and press MENU/OK to confirm.

Set the Ring Delay

Go to MENU/OK > [Answ. Machine] > [Ring delay]. Select the number of rings and press MENU/OK.

First, ensure remote access is activated. Go to MENU/OK > [Answ. Machine] > [Remote access] and select [Activate].

To Access Remotely:

1. Make a call to your home number from a touch-tone phone.

2. When you hear the announcement, enter #.

3. Enter your 4-digit remote access PIN code (default is 0000).

4. You now have access to your answering machine. Press a key to carry out a function.

Remote Access Commands:

Register Additional Handsets

The base station can register up to 3 handsets.

1. On the handset, press MENU/OK.

2. Select [Services] > [Register].

3. Press and hold the find handset key on the base station for 5 seconds, then press MENU/OK on the handset to confirm.

4. Enter the system PIN/passcode (default is 0000) and press MENU/OK to confirm.

Unregister a Handset

1. Press MENU/OK.

2. Select [Services] > [Unregister], then press MENU/OK.

3. Enter the system PIN/passcode (0000).

4. Select the handset number you want to unregister.

5. Press MENU/OK to confirm.

Restore Default Settings

This will reset all settings except the phonebook.

1. Press MENU/OK.

2. Select [Services] > [Reset], then press MENU/OK.

3. A confirmation request is displayed. Press MENU/OK to confirm.

• The handset is out of range. Move it closer to the base station.

• If the handset displays [Register your Handset], you need to register your handset to the base station.

• Make sure that the base station has a power supply.

• Register the handset to the base station.

• Move the handset closer to the base station.

• Make sure the batteries are inserted correctly.

• Ensure the handset is placed properly on the charger. The LED at the back of the handset should flash once when charging begins.

• Make sure the docking tone setting is turned on. When placed correctly, you should hear a docking tone.

• The charging contacts might be dirty. Disconnect the power supply first and clean the contacts with a damp cloth.

• The batteries may be defective. Purchase new ones with the same specifications.

• The handset is nearly out of range. Move it closer to the base station.

• The phone is receiving interference from nearby electrical appliances. Move the base station away from them.

• The phone is in a location with thick walls. Move the base away from them.

If these solutions do not help, disconnect the power supply from both the handset and base station. Try again after 1 minute.

• The caller ID service is not activated. Check with your service provider.

• The caller’s information is withheld or unavailable.
