– Do not steam garments while they are being worn.
– Use the provided glove to protect your hand when holding a garment for steaming.
– Steam garments when they are hanging, or supported by the integrated board.
– Do not touch the hot steamer head or allow it to come into direct contact with skin.
– Avoid directing steam towards your face or body.
– When using an ironing board (if applicable, though this model has an integrated board), ensure steam is directed away from your body.
– Do not direct steam onto the board itself without a garment in between, especially if the board material is not designed for direct steam contact.
How do I assemble the garment steamer?
To assemble the garment steamer, follow these general steps based on typical assembly for such devices:
1. Insert the pole(s) into the base unit. Secure them by closing any pole lock clips.
2. Attach the FlexHead holder to the top of the pole(s).
3. Attach the Hang&lock feature to the pole or FlexHead holder as designed.
4. Extend the telescopic pole(s) to the desired height and secure them using the pole lock clips.
5. If your model includes a board, attach it to the pole assembly according to the instructions.
6. Place the FlexHead (steamer head) onto its holder.
What is the purpose of the board and how should I care for the board cover?
The board provides backing support to enhance the steaming performance.
Note: Do not wash the board cover as it may damage the foam material.
What type of water is recommended for the garment steamer?
Your appliance has been designed to be used with tap water. In case you live in an area with hard water, fast scale build-up may occur. Therefore, it is recommended to use water without minerals such as distilled or purified water to prolong the lifetime of your appliance.
Are there any substances I should avoid adding to the water tank?
Yes. Do not add perfume, vinegar, mineral water, starch, descaling agents, ironing aids, chemically descaled water or other chemicals into the water tank as they may cause water spitting, brown staining, or damage to your appliance.
How do I fill the water tank?
1. Ensure the appliance is unplugged.
2. Remove the water tank from the base of the steamer.
3. Open the filling cap on the water tank.
4. Fill the tank with the recommended type of water (tap water, or distilled/purified water in hard water areas) up to the maximum fill line.
5. Close the filling cap securely.
6. Insert the water tank back into the base until it clicks into place.
What are the benefits of the FlexHead and how should it be handled?
FlexHead allows you to have contact with your garment from top to bottom to avoid steam escape and for less kneeling and bending.
Note: Do not shake the steamer head vigorously.
How do the multi steam settings work and what should I note about the steam supply hose?
Multi steam settings are provided to save water and energy. You can increase the steam setting for more steam power at any point of time. This appliance is safe to use on all fabrics at any setting. The GC553 and GC554 models have specific settings for different fabrics (e.g., silk, wool, cotton, linen), while the GC556 model has a single rotary knob for increasing steam levels.
Note: The steam supply hose becomes warm during steaming. This is normal. The appliance typically heats up in approximately 45 seconds.
How does the Auto shut-off feature work on the GC556 model?
For the GC556 model, the ring on the steam knob flashes after the water tank has been empty for 10 minutes.
To resume, refill the water tank and insert it back. You can resume steaming after turning the steam knob. The ring should stop flashing.
If the water tank is not refilled within the next 10 minutes after the ring starts flashing, the appliance starts to cool down and will shut off completely.
When is it recommended to use the board with the steamer?
For garments which require a formal look and crisp result, such as shirts, jackets and pants, it is recommended to use the board. The Hang&lock feature can be used to secure the garment hanger.
How can I achieve crisp pleats or a natural look using the board?
To make crisp pleats (e.g., on pants), start steaming from the bottom half of the pants and move onto the top half. This helps prevent accidental wrinkles on parts which have already been steamed.
For a more natural look and quick touch-up on garments such as dresses, pleated skirts and T-shirts, it is recommended to use the board.
How should the protective glove be used?
Put the glove on the hand you are using to hold a garment. The glove protects your hand against the steam from the steamer head.
What is the purpose of the brush attachment and how should it be used?
The brush improves steam penetration into thick and heavy fabrics for faster results. Brush slowly with the bristles touching the garment.
Caution: Do not attach or detach the brush while the steam is on or the steamer head is hot.
Why is the de-calc process important and how often should it be done?
To maintain optimal steam performance and prolong the lifetime of the appliance, it is important to remove scale and impurities inside the appliance regularly. Therefore, it is recommended to perform the de-calc process at least once a month.
Before you start the de-calc process, make sure there is some water in the water tank.
What are the steps for the de-calc process?
1. Turn the steam knob to the ‘OFF’ position (or the lowest setting that indicates off) and unplug the appliance.
2. Allow the appliance to cool down for at least 1 hour.
3. Remove the water tank from the base.
4. Hold the appliance over a sink. Turn the de-calc knob (usually located on the base) counter-clockwise and carefully remove it.
5. Tilt the base of the appliance to pour out the water and any scale build-up into the sink.
6. Reinsert the de-calc knob and turn it clockwise to fasten it securely.
How should I clean the appliance and steamer head after use?
Clean the appliance and wipe any deposits off the steamer head with a damp cloth and non-abrasive liquid cleaning agent.
What is important regarding the water tank after using the steamer?
Always empty the water tank after usage, to prevent calc build-up and maintain good steam performance.
What should I do if I encounter common problems with the garment steamer?
| Problem | Possible cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| The appliance produces no steam or irregular steam. | The steamer has not heated up sufficiently. | Let the appliance heat up for approximately 45 seconds. Ensure pole lock clips are secure and the hose is properly connected. |
| Steam has condensed in the hose. | Lift the steamer head to straighten the hose vertically. This allows any condensation to flow back. | |
| Water droplets drip from the steamer head or the appliance produces a croaking sound. | Low water level in the tank or the tank is not inserted properly. | Refill the water tank and insert it properly. |
| Too much scale has built up in the appliance. | Perform de-calc process. Refer to the de-calc process instructions. | |
| You have left the steamer head and/or the steam supply hose in horizontal position for a long time. | Lift the steamer head to straighten the hose vertically. This allows any condensation to flow back. | |
| When the hose forms a U-shape, condensation in the hose cannot flow back into the water tank. | Lift the steamer head to straighten the hose vertically. This allows any condensation to flow back. | |
| An excessive amount of water drips out of the steamer head when the appliance is heating up. | The water in the appliance is dirty or has been left inside the appliance for a long time. | Perform de-calc process. Refer to the de-calc process instructions. |
| Water leaks out from the steamer base. | You have not closed the water tank cap or de-calc knob securely. | Close the water tank cap or de-calc knob securely. |
| The water tank is not inserted properly. | Insert the tank properly. |
