What should I do before attempting to connect or operate this product?

Before attempting to connect or operate this product, please read these instructions carefully and save this manual for future use.


Where can I find the product serial number and what should I do with it?

The product serial number is found on the surface of the product. Note it down in the space provided in the manual and keep the manual for future reference.


What precautions should be taken for installation?

Refer all work related to the installation to qualified service personnel. Installation work shall be done in accordance with the local electrical code.

Do not install this product in a location where the network camera can be easily damaged by a person with malicious intent. Injury may occur if the network camera is broken or damaged.

To prevent injury, this product must be securely mounted to a wall or ceiling in accordance with the Installation Guide. Select an installation area that can support the total weight. Injury may occur if this product drops due to insufficient installation strength or is installed in an inappropriate place.

Install this product in a location high enough to avoid people and objects from bumping the product. Injury may occur if people or objects bump the product and the product falls.

Do not install this product in locations subject to vibration. Loosening of mounting screws or bolts may cause this product to fall, resulting in injury or accidents.

Do not strike or give a strong shock to this product. Failure to observe this may cause fire or injury.

Correctly perform all wiring. Short-circuits or incorrect wiring may cause fire or electrical shock.

Securely install this product on a flat place. If the installation surface is not flat, this product may fall down, resulting in injury.

Be sure to remove this product if it is no longer in use. Failure to observe this may cause this product to fall, resulting in injury.

To keep microSD memory card access (read/write) stable, avoid touching the microSD memory card while the camera is turned on.

What precautions should be taken for use?

Do not insert any foreign objects. Fire or electrical shock may be caused if water or any foreign objects, such as metal objects, enter inside the unit. Turn off the power immediately and contact qualified service personnel for service.

Do not use this product in an inflammable atmosphere. Failure to observe this may cause an explosion resulting in injury.

Do not place objects on this product. (such as vases, cups, cosmetics, medicines, small metal objects, etc.) Failure to observe this may cause injury if such objects fall. It may also cause fire or electrical shock if water or other liquids spill into this product.

Do not hang down from this product or use this product as a pedestal. Failure to observe this may cause this product to fall or drop, resulting in injury or accidents.

Do not install this product on a place that is greatly influenced by wind. Installation in a location where the wind speed is 60 m/s {approx. 134 mph} or more may cause this product to fall, resulting in injury or accidents.

Do not expose this product to direct sunlight for extended periods of time under the blazing sun or a place near a heater. Failure to observe this may cause high temperatures in the camera, resulting in burns.

When an abnormality is found, immediately stop operating. When smoke goes up from this product, the smell of smoke comes from this product, or the exterior of this product has deteriorated, continued use may cause a fire or fall of this product resulting in injury, or damage to this product. In this case, turn the power off immediately and contact qualified service personnel for service.

Periodically, images may appear distorted, depending on the installation environment and the subject. (This phenomenon may be noticeable when the entire screen is dark, or a part of the screen, such as a wall, is dark. To reduce this phenomenon, it is recommended to make the entire screen bright, such as by facing the camera to a bright place or installing lighting.)

When using a microSD memory card, refer to the Operating Instructions for precautions regarding microSD memory cards.

When installing this product in a location where it is exposed to electronic/magnetic noise, be aware of potential noise on images or audio.

Do not use the product in locations where corrosive gas is generated. Otherwise, the mounting parts may deteriorate and the product may fall due to corrosion resulting in injury or accidents. Also, failure to do so may cause damage to the product.

Do not install this product at locations where it is subject to damage from salt. Failure to observe this may cause this product to fall, resulting in injury or accidents. Also, failure to do so may cause damage to the product.

Do not block the ventilation slots/holes. Failure to observe this may cause fire.

Do not make connections when the power is on. Failure to observe this may cause electrical shock.

Do not use this product in locations where it is subject to strong magnetic fields, or radio waves, or where it receives strong light (including light from spotlights or the sun). Otherwise, the product may be affected by this light and the image quality may deteriorate.

The product has no power switch. When turning off the power, disconnect the power supply from the PoE device. If the PoE device has no power switch, disconnect the power cord from the AC outlet.

The camera uses infrared light. Therefore, the display may change color when it is used with certain types of fluorescent lamps. When using the product, install it so that light other than light from the camera (sunlight, fluorescent light, etc.) is not incident on the lens. (Otherwise, the color tone will change.)

If the camera is installed in an area that is directly exposed to exhaust gas from vehicles, the oil content in the exhaust gas may cause the front cover to become cloudy and make it difficult to clean. If the camera is installed under such conditions, we recommend cleaning the front cover periodically.

Do not wipe the camera with benzine, thinner, alcohol, or any other type of solvent or detergent. Otherwise, discoloration may occur. When using a chemical cloth for cleaning, read the caution provided with the chemical cloth product.

When cleaning the product body, use a soft, dry cloth. When dirt is heavy, use a neutral detergent and wipe gently, then wipe with a soft, dry cloth.

The dome cover of this product is made of polycarbonate resin. Do not expose the cover to organic solvents (thinner, benzine etc.), strong alkaline detergents or strong acid detergents. In case such solvent or detergent adheres to the cover, the cover may become cloudy or discolored by chemical reaction. Use care when selecting screw fixing agents, lubricants, etc.

Do not place the battery in a location where it is exposed to direct sunlight, or where the temperature is high. This may cause the battery to leak, overheat or ignite.

The battery is inside the camera. Do not leave the battery in an environment of excessive heat or cold.


How should old equipment and batteries be disposed of?

Only for European Union and countries with recycling systems

What do the LED indicators on the camera signify?

LINK indicator: Lights orange when the camera is able to communicate with the connected device.

ACT indicator: Blinks green (accessing) when data is being sent via the network camera.

Note: Lighting/blinking LED can be turned off with the software settings at any time. (The initial state is lighting or blinking.) Refer to the Operating instructions, and set the LED to be solid off if necessary.


How do I initialize the network camera using the INITIAL SET button?

Follow the steps below to initialize the network camera. Retry if the camera does not start up normally.

1. Turn off the power of the camera.

2. Turn on the power of the camera while pressing the INITIAL SET button.

3. Wait around 15 seconds to release the button.

4. Wait around 2 minutes. The camera will start up and the settings including the network settings will be initialized.

Caution: Do not turn off the power of the camera during the process of initialization. Otherwise, it may fail to initialize and may cause malfunction.


How do I use the TELE and WIDE buttons?

TELE button: Click the TELE button to adjust the zoom ratio to the “Tele” side.

WIDE button: Click the WIDE button to adjust the zoom ratio to the “Wide” side.


What should I do when not using the WV-QJB500-W adapter box for installation?

Remove the screw for temporary fixing.


How do I prepare the installation surface for direct mounting?

Drill a hole in the installation surface. (4 screw holes / 1 cable access hole).

When mounting on a wall:

– Cable access hole: ø30 mm (ø1-3/16 inches)

– Screw holes: 46 mm (1-13/16 inches) apart horizontally, 40 mm (1-21/32 inches) apart vertically.

When mounting on a ceiling:

– Cable access hole: ø30 mm (ø1-3/16 inches)

– Screw holes: 46 mm (1-13/16 inches) apart horizontally, 40 mm (1-21/32 inches) apart vertically.

The “up” direction of the camera should align with the direction the camera is pointed.

Notes:

– Determine the mounting height of the camera so that the lowest part of the camera or the camera mount bracket after the installation is 2 m 80 cm (110 inches) or higher from the floor.

– When running the cable using the side cable access hole of the camera, the cable access hole indicated in the upper figure is not required.

– To install this product outdoors, be sure to waterproof screw holes and cable access hole.


How do I prepare for installation using a gangbox/junction box?

Mount the gangbox/junction box on the installation surface.

Note:

– When gangbox/junction box or the like are used, it is recommended that 2 pieces be used side by side. (Cable connection will become easy by fixing the camera on one side and wiring on the other side.)

– Determine the mounting height of the camera so that the lowest part of the camera or the camera mount bracket after the installation is 2 m 80 cm (110 inches) or higher from the floor.


How do I prepare for installation using an adapter box (WV-QJB500-W)?

1. Install the adapter box on the installation surface by following the operating instructions of WV-QJB500-W (option).

2. Hang the camera by hooking the installed auxiliary wire (from the adapter box) on the hook on the rear of the camera mount bracket.

Note:

– Determine the mounting height of the camera so that the lowest part of the camera or the camera mount bracket after the installation is 2 m 80 cm (110 inches) or higher from the floor.


What are the important points for making connections?

IMPORTANT:

– Devices to which power can be supplied to this product are PoE hub and PoE power supplying equipment.

– Turn off each system’s power supply before making a connection.

– Use an Ethernet cable (category 5e or better, straight, 4 pairs (8 pins)) with an external dimension of ø5 mm (ø3/16 inches) – ø6.5 mm (ø1/4 inches), less than 100 m (328 feet) in length.

– Wire and caulk appropriately.

– When connecting the RJ45 waterproof connector: Insert the RJ45 plug. Align “▶” on the RJ45 waterproof connector cover with “◀” on the RJ45 waterproof connector cap and then rotate until “●” aligns with “◀”. Tighten until no gap is present.

– Do not install the camera where the RJ45 waterproof connector is exposed to constant rain or moisture.

– When removing the RJ45 waterproof connector, be sure to remove it with the reverse procedure of connection.

– When the Ethernet cable is disconnected once, reconnect the cable after around 2 seconds. When the cable is quickly reconnected, the power may not be supplied from the PoE device.


How do I mount the camera directly?

Secure the camera with fixing screws (4 pcs.) (M4:locally procured). Minimum pull-out strength: 724 N {163 lbf} (per 1 pc.).


How do I mount the camera to a gangbox/junction box?

Secure the camera with fixing screws (4 pcs.) (M4:locally procured). Minimum pull-out strength: 724 N {163 lbf} (per 1 pc.). The screw holes are 46 mm (1-13/16 inches) apart horizontally and 83.5 mm (3-9/32 inches) apart vertically (center to center of gangbox/junction box).


How do I mount the camera using an adapter box (WV-QJB500-W)?

Using a 3 mm {1/8 inches} hex wrench (locally procured), secure the camera with hexagon screws (4 pcs.) (M4:accessory of WV-QJB500-W). Recommended tightening torque: 1.37 N·m {1.01 lbf·ft}.


How do I adjust the camera after mounting?

[1] Turn on the camera.

[2] Connect to the network by following information described on our support website .

[3] Adjust the camera direction.

① Using a 5 mm {3/16 inches} hex wrench (locally procured), loosen TILT lock screw, PAN lock screw and YAW lock screw.

② Adjust the horizontal (PAN) angle (±180°), vertical (TILT) angle (0° to 100°), and azimuth (YAW) angle (-190° to +100°) while watching the screen of the PC on the network.

IMPORTANT: Do not adjust the Horizontal (PAN) angle more than ±180°. This may cause cables to be wrenched.

③ After adjusting the direction, fix the camera by tightening the TILT lock screw, PAN lock screw and YAW lock screw.

Recommended tightening torque:

– PAN lock screw: 2.15 N·m {1.59 lbf·ft}

– TILT lock screw: 2.15 N·m {1.59 lbf·ft}

– YAW lock screw: 2.15 N·m {1.59 lbf·ft}

[4] Remove the front cover from the camera.

① Rotate the front cover while pressing the spring plate with a thin tool (approx. 25° rotation).

② Pull the front cover forward.

[5] If necessary, insert a microSD memory card by referring to “Insert / remove a microSD memory card”.

[6] Adjust the zoom ratio of the camera.

Adjust the zoom ratio using the TELE button and the WIDE button while watching the screen.

Note:

– After approx. 3 seconds from releasing the TELE button or the WIDE button, the auto focus function will automatically be executed. Do not touch the camera during execution of the auto focus function.

– Attaching the front cover may cause slight defocusing. In this case, execute the auto focus function from the setup menu after attaching the front cover and removing the protection film.

– When the resolution is set to higher than 640×360, image quality may deteriorate depending on the zoom ratio. Refer to our support website for further information.

[7] Mount the front cover to the camera.

① Insert the front cover. Align “OPEN” with “◀”.

② Rotate the front cover (approx. 25° rotation) until “●” aligns with “◀”.

[8] After complete installation, remove the protection film from the front panel.

After removal, be sure not to touch the clear part of the front panel.


How do I insert a microSD memory card?

① Remove the front cover from the camera.

② Insert the microSD memory card into the end of the microSD slot and confirm that a clicking sound is made.

Note: Back end of the microSD memory card does not protrude over the surface of the microSD slot (the same surface as the symbol of the microSD).

③ Attach the front cover to the camera again.


How do I remove a microSD memory card?

When removing a microSD memory card, reverse the insertion procedure.

① Remove the front cover from the camera.

② Remove the microSD memory card by pushing it down until a click sound is heard while holding the card with a finger to prevent it from popping out.

③ Attach the front cover to the camera again.

IMPORTANT:

• When removing a microSD memory card, make sure to set “SD memory card” to “Not use” on the [SD memory card] tab of the setup menu before removing the microSD memory card. After removing the memory card, set back the “SD memory card” to “Use”. For information about the setup menu, refer to the Operating Instructions.

Note:

• When using a microSD memory card, format it using this product. Refer to the Operating Instructions for how to format a microSD memory card.

• Use the compatible microSD memory cards. Refer to our support website for latest information about the compatible microSD memory cards.


What precautions should be taken regarding the Open Source Software used in this product?

This product contains open source software licensed under GPL (GNU General Public License), LGPL (GNU Lesser General Public License), etc.

Customers can duplicate, distribute and modify the source code of the software under the license of GPL and/or LGPL.

Refer to the “readme.txt” file on the provided CD-ROM for details on licensing of open source software and the source code. The source code will be disclosed on condition of request.
