To Turn On:

Slide the power switch. The Power Indicator will light up.

To Turn Off:

Turning off the power properly is important to avoid losing unsaved data.

Step 1. Click Start.

Step 2. Click Shut Down.

Step 3. Select “Shut down” and click OK.

If you cannot turn off the computer using the above procedure, slide and hold the power switch for at least four seconds. If this does not work, you can turn off the computer by disconnecting the AC adaptor and removing the battery pack, but you will lose any unsaved data.

Follow these steps to connect the AC adaptor:

Step 1. Open the DC-IN jack cover.

Step 2. Plug the DC plug of the AC adaptor into the DC-IN jack on the computer.

Step 3. Connect the AC power cord to the AC adaptor.

Step 4. Plug the AC power cord into an AC outlet.

Always connect the AC adaptor in this order. When disconnecting, reverse the procedure.

Inserting the Battery Pack:

Step 1. With the computer’s power off and the display closed, turn the computer upside down.

Step 2. Make sure the battery lock is in the “UNLOCK” position.

Step 3. Insert the battery pack into the battery compartment. Be sure to align the tab on the computer with the groove on the battery pack.

Step 4. Slide the battery lock to the “LOCK” position.

Removing the Battery Pack:

Step 1. With the computer’s power off and the display closed, turn the computer upside down.

Step 2. Slide the battery lock to the “UNLOCK” position.

Step 3. Pull the battery pack out of the battery compartment.

Charging the Battery Pack:

The battery pack can be charged while it is installed in the computer. With the computer’s power on or off, connect the AC adaptor to the computer, and the battery will begin to charge automatically. The Battery Indicator will be lit while charging. When charging is complete, the indicator will go out.

Charging times are as follows (may vary depending on usage conditions):

Power On: Approx. 5 hours

Power Off: Approx. 3 hours

Opening and Closing the Display:

To open the display, slide the display latch and lift the display. To close, lower the display until it locks into place.

Adjusting Brightness:

You can adjust the brightness of the display by pressing the following keys:

Fn + F1: To decrease brightness.

Fn + F2: To increase brightness.

Cleaning the Display:

To clean the display, use a soft cloth moistened with water or a neutral detergent. Do not use solvents such as benzine or paint thinner.

The built-in touchpad is a pointing device that allows you to move the pointer and select items on the screen. The left and right buttons on the touchpad function like the left and right buttons on a mouse.

To use the touchpad:

Step 1. Move your finger on the touchpad to move the pointer.

Step 2. To select an item, move the pointer over the item and press the left button. This is called “clicking”.

Step 3. To execute an item (e.g., start a program), move the pointer over the item and press the left button twice quickly. This is called “double-clicking”.

Step 4. To drag an item, move the pointer over it, press and hold down the left button, move the pointer to the desired location, and then release the button.

The touchpad is sensitive to pressure and position. Keep it clean and dry. Touching the pad with a dirty finger or wearing gloves may cause it to malfunction.

Inserting a floppy disk:

Step 1. Open the floppy disk drive door.

Step 2. With the disk’s label facing up, insert the disk into the drive until you hear a click.

Removing a floppy disk:

Step 1. Check that the floppy disk drive indicator is not lit.

Step 2. Press the eject button. The disk will be ejected from the drive.

Step 3. Close the floppy disk drive door.

Do not remove a disk while the indicator is lit, as this may damage the disk or the drive.

Removing the hard disk drive pack:

Step 1. Turn off the computer. Close the display and turn the computer upside down.

Step 2. Remove the battery pack.

Step 3. Loosen the two screws holding the hard disk drive pack cover and remove the cover.

Step 4. Gently pull the hard disk drive pack out of its compartment by grasping the attached strap.

Inserting the hard disk drive pack:

Step 1. With the computer off and upside down, slide the hard disk drive pack into the compartment.

Step 2. Replace the hard disk drive pack cover and tighten the two screws.

Step 3. Re-insert the battery pack.

The hard disk drive is a delicate device. Avoid subjecting it to shock and vibration. Use the computer on a flat, stable surface.

Inserting a CD:

Step 1. Open the CD-ROM drive cover.

Step 2. Press the eject button to open the CD-ROM drive tray.

Step 3. Place the CD on the tray with the label side up.

Step 4. Gently push the tray in until it clicks into place.

Step 5. Close the CD-ROM drive cover.

Removing a CD:

Step 1. Open the CD-ROM drive cover.

Step 2. Check that the CD-ROM drive indicator is not lit.

Step 3. Press the eject button to open the CD-ROM drive tray.

Step 4. Remove the CD from the tray.

Step 5. Gently push the tray in and close the CD-ROM drive cover.

If the tray does not open when the eject button is pressed, you can open it manually by inserting a thin rod (like a straightened paper clip) into the emergency eject hole.

The Setup Utility is a program that lets you configure the hardware of your PANASONIC TOUGHBOOK CF-27EB6GDCM. To start the Setup Utility:

Step 1. Turn on the computer.

Step 2. Press the F2 key while the message “Press <F2> to enter SETUP” is displayed at the bottom of the screen.

After a few moments, the Setup Utility main menu will appear.

Step 3. Type the new password and press Enter.

Step 4. Re-type the new password to confirm and press Enter.

To disable a password:

Step 1. Select the password you want to disable and press Enter.

Step 2. Type the current password and press Enter.

Step 3. Press Enter without typing any characters at the “Enter New Password” prompt.

You can change the boot priority of devices in the ‘Boot’ menu of the Setup Utility. The computer will attempt to boot from the devices in the specified order.

Step 1. Start the Setup Utility and select the ‘Boot’ menu.

Step 2. Use the Up and Down arrow keys to highlight a boot device (e.g., Removable Devices, IDE Hard Drive, ATAPI CD-ROM, Network Boot).

Step 3. Use the + and – keys to move the highlighted device up or down in the list.

Step 4. Once the desired order is set, go to the ‘Exit’ menu and select “Exit Saving Changes”.

To exit the Setup Utility, navigate to the ‘Exit’ menu using the arrow keys. You have the following options:

Exit Saving Changes: Saves any changes you have made and restarts the computer.

Exit Discarding Changes: Exits the Setup Utility without saving any changes and restarts the computer.

Load Setup Defaults: Restores the Setup Utility settings to their factory defaults.

Discard Changes: Reverts any changes made during the current session to their previous values.

Save Changes: Saves the changes made during the current session.

Select your desired option and press Enter. A confirmation window will appear; select [Yes] to proceed.

The PANASONIC TOUGHBOOK CF-27EB6GDCM features a Suspend/Resume function to save power. There are two suspend modes:

Standby: This mode turns off the display and hard disk drive but maintains the contents of the computer’s memory. To enter Standby mode, click Start → Shut Down → Stand by.

Green: The remaining battery power is between 40% and 100%.

Orange: The remaining battery power is between 10% and 39%.

Red: The remaining battery power is less than 10%.

When the battery power is low, the Battery Indicator will begin flashing red, and the computer will beep. At this point, you should save your data and connect the AC adaptor to charge the battery or shut down the computer and install a fully charged battery pack.

To get the most out of your battery pack, follow these guidelines:

1. If you will not be using the computer for a long time (a month or more), remove the battery pack and store it in a cool, dry place. A charged battery will discharge over time.

2. If you frequently use AC power, you should occasionally discharge the battery pack completely to maintain its performance.

3. Do not expose the battery pack to high temperatures, such as in a hot car or in direct sunlight. High temperatures can damage the battery.

4. Keep the battery pack clean. Wipe it with a soft, dry cloth.

You can connect an external display to your PANASONIC TOUGHBOOK CF-27EB6GDCM and switch the display output. Pressing Fn + F3 repeatedly will cycle through the following display modes:

1. LCD only: The image is displayed only on the computer’s built-in LCD screen.

2. CRT only: The image is displayed only on the external monitor (CRT).

1. Make sure the external monitor is turned on and its power cord is plugged in.

2. Ensure the display cable is securely connected to the external display port on the computer and to the monitor.

3. Press Fn + F3 to switch the display output to the external monitor.

If a connected peripheral device is not working correctly, try these troubleshooting steps:

1. Turn off both the computer and the peripheral device. Turn the peripheral on first, then turn on the computer.

2. Make sure the correct driver for the peripheral device is installed.

3. Check that the interface cable is securely connected.
