To completely disconnect this apparatus from the AC Mains, disconnect the power supply cord plug from AC receptacle.

The socket outlet shall be installed near the equipment and easily accessible.

The mains plug of the power supply cord shall remain readily operable.

Should the fuse need to be replaced please ensure that the replacement fuse has a rating of 5-ampere and that it is approved by ASTA or BSI to BS1362.

Check for the ASTA mark or the BSI mark on the body of the fuse.

If the plug contains a removable fuse cover you must ensure that it is refitted when the fuse is replaced.

If you lose the fuse cover the plug must not be used until a replacement cover is obtained. A replacement fuse cover can be purchased from your local dealer.

IF THE FITTED MOULDED PLUG IS UNSUITABLE FOR THE SOCKET OUTLET IN YOUR HOME THEN THE FUSE SHOULD BE REMOVED AND THE PLUG CUT OFF AND DISPOSED OF SAFELY. THERE IS A DANGER OF SEVERE ELECTRICAL SHOCK IF THE CUT OFF PLUG IS INSERTED INTO ANY 13-AMPERE SOCKET.

The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code:

Blue: Neutral, Brown: Live.

As these colours may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows:

The wire which is coloured Blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured Black or Blue.

The wire which is coloured Brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured Brown or Red.

WARNING: DO NOT CONNECT EITHER WIRE TO THE EARTH TERMINAL WHICH IS MARKED WITH THE LETTER E, BY THE EARTH SYMBOL OR COLOURED GREEN OR GREEN/YELLOW.

Remove the connector cover.

The location of the fuse differ according to the type of AC mains plug (figures A and B). Confirm the AC mains plug fitted and follow the instructions below. Illustrations may differ from actual AC mains plug.

1. Open the fuse cover with a screwdriver.

2. Replace the fuse (5 ampere) and close or attach the fuse cover.

Set the unit up on an even surface away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, high humidity, and excessive vibration. These conditions can damage the cabinet and other components, thereby shortening the unit’s service life.

Do not place heavy items on the unit.

Do not use high voltage power sources. This can overload the unit and cause a fire.

Do not use a DC power source. Check the source carefully when setting the unit up on a ship or other places where DC is used.

Ensure the AC mains lead is connected correctly and not damaged. Poor connection and lead damage can cause fire or electric shock. Do not pull, bend, or place heavy items on the lead.

Grasp the plug firmly when unplugging the lead. Pulling the AC mains lead can cause electric shock.

Do not handle the plug with wet hands. This can cause electric shock.

Do not let metal objects fall inside the unit. This can cause electric shock or malfunction.

Do not let liquids get into the unit. This can cause electric shock or malfunction. If this occurs, immediately disconnect the unit from the power supply and contact your dealer.

Do not spray insecticides onto or into the unit. They contain flammable gases which can ignite if sprayed into the unit.

Do not attempt to repair this unit by yourself. If sound is interrupted, indicators fail to light, smoke appears, or any other problem that is not covered in these instructions occurs, disconnect the AC mains lead and contact your dealer or an authorized service center. Electric shock or damage to the unit can occur if the unit is repaired, disassembled or reconstructed by unqualified persons.

Extend operating life by disconnecting the unit from the power source if it is not to be used for a long time.

• AC mains lead (For use with this unit only. Do not use it with other equipment. Also, do not use cords for other equipment with this unit. Variations exist for Australia and N.Z., Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, Thailand, Others.)

• 2 speaker cables

The Unit on/off button is located on the top of the main unit. It is used to turn the unit on or off.

The WIRELESS LINK indicator is located on the top of the main unit.

The rear of the main unit features:

• Speaker terminals

• Surround selector

• I/D SET button

• AC IN

• Place the main unit in a horizontal position with the top panel facing upward.

• To allow for proper ventilation and to maintain good airflow around the main unit, position it with at least 5 cm of space on all sides.

Clean this unit with a soft, dry cloth.

• Never use alcohol, paint thinner or benzine to clean this unit.

• Before using chemically treated cloth, carefully read the instructions that came with the cloth.

• Turn off all equipment before connection and read the appropriate operating instructions.

• Connect the AC mains lead after all other connections are complete.

• Do not use the wireless system and digital transmitter inside a metal cabinet or bookshelf.

• Do not attempt to connect any extra surround speakers to the home theater unit.

• Place the wireless system within approximately 10 m from the home theater unit.

To avoid interference, maintain the following distances between the wireless system and other electronic devices that use the same radio frequency (2.4 GHz band):

• Wireless LAN: approx. 2 m

• Cordless phone and other electronic devices: approx. 2 m

The wireless system will automatically seek a clear channel if any of these other devices interfere with its communication.

When this happens, the wireless link indicator (“W” or an indicator) flashes on the home theater unit, and there will be a brief audio interruption coming from the surround speakers.

This is the normal operation of the product working to assure the best possible performance of your home theater unit.

If the interference persists, try moving the other devices to another location outside the range of the wireless system, or move the wireless system nearer to your home theater unit.

• Place on the side of or slightly behind the seating position.

Surround speaker cables are included. Surround speakers are not included.

By using two units of the wireless system (SH-FX71). Your home theater unit must be capable of 7.1-channel playback.

This placement offers 7.1-channel playback. Your home theater unit must be capable of 7.1-channel playback.

LS: Surround (left), RS: Surround (right)

• Place on the side of the seating position.

LB: Surround back (left), RB: Surround back (right) (or SBL/SBR)

• Place behind the seating position, about 1 m higher than ear level.

Surround speaker cables are included. Surround speakers and surround back speakers are not included.

Refer also to the operating instructions for your home theater unit.

Do not insert or remove while the home theater unit is on.

Insert the digital transmitter (included) fully into the slot on the rear of the home theater unit until you hear a click.

If the surround speaker cables (with a blue connector and a grey connector) have already been connected, disconnect the surround speaker cables from your home theater unit.

Connect the speaker cables to terminals of the same colour on the wireless system. Insert fully.

Impedance: 3 Ω to 6 Ω

Speaker input power: 100 W (min)

For 5.1ch connection:

• SURROUND (LS): Connect to Blue terminal.

• SURROUND (RS): Connect to Grey terminal.

Set the Surround selector on the wireless system to SURR for the left and right speakers.

For 7.1ch connection (using two wireless systems):

First wireless system (for surround speakers):

• SURROUND (LS): Connect to Blue terminal.

• SURROUND (RS): Connect to Grey terminal.

Set the Surround selector on this wireless system according to your home theater unit’s 7.1ch configuration for surround L/R. Often this is similar to the 5.1ch setup (SURR), or may involve L SIDE / R SIDE depending on the primary unit’s configuration.

Second wireless system (for surround back speakers):

• SURROUND BACK (LB): Connect to Grey terminal.

• SURROUND BACK (RB): Connect to Blue terminal.

Set the Surround selector on this wireless system: L SIDE for the left surround back speaker, and R SIDE for the right surround back speaker connections.

The labels on the wireless unit for 7.1ch are: SURROUND (LS) Blue, SURROUND BACK (LB) Grey (selector to L SIDE). SURROUND (RS) Grey, SURROUND BACK (RB) Blue (selector to R SIDE).

Connect the AC mains lead (included) to the AC IN socket on the wireless system and the other end to a household mains socket.

• Do not use any other AC mains lead except the supplied one.

• Refer also to the operating instructions for your home theater unit.

• When you enjoy 7.1-channel playback, refer also to “Using the surround back speakers”.

1. Turn on the wireless system. Use the Unit on/off button [I, O] on the wireless system. (I: The unit is on. O: The unit is off.)

2. Turn on your home theater unit. The wireless link indicator on your home theater unit will be turned on. The type of the indicator varies according to the home theater unit (e.g., “W” on the display).

3. Start play on the home theater unit.

• Red: The unit is on and the wireless link is deactivated.

• Green: The unit is on and the wireless link is activated.

If the indicator is flashing, refer to the Troubleshooting guide.

The wireless system consumes a small amount of power, even when it is off (approx. 0.3 W). To save power when the unit is not to be used for a long time, unplug it from the household mains socket.

Use only a digital transmitter supplied with the SH-FX71. The wireless system is originally paired to work with the digital transmitter that comes along with it.

If you are using 2 sets of SH-FX71 for 7.1-channel playback (making surround speakers and surround back speakers wireless), pairing is necessary for the digital transmitter to work with the additional wireless system.

• Make sure to connect the AC mains lead of the additional wireless system.

• Turn on the home theater unit and reduce the volume.

1. Turn on the additional wireless system.

2. While pressing the stop button (e.g. [■]) on the home theater unit, press the numbered button [2] on the remote control until “P” lights in the home theater unit’s display.

3. While “P” is displayed, press [I/D SET] on the rear of the additional wireless system using a pointed object. The indicator on the additional wireless system turns green. If “P” goes off before you press [I/D SET], repeat step 2 and then continue the procedure.

4. While pressing the stop button on the home theater unit, press the numbered button [2] on the remote control.

5. Turn off and on the additional wireless system. Make sure the indicator on the additional wireless system lights up green.

If you should change the digital transmitter card, repeat the pairing steps using the new digital transmitter.

No, SH-FX71 cannot be used with SH-FX65, SH-FX67 or SH-FX70.

Keep the digital transmitter of the additional wireless system for later use.

Ensure the AC mains lead is connected properly.

Turn the wireless system off and then back on.

• Refer to page 8 of the operating instructions for the surround selector setting details and ensure that the selector is set at the correct position. Then, turn the wireless system off and then back on.

• Verify the surround sound setting on the home theater unit.

There is a power supply problem. Consult the dealer.

There is no link between the home theater unit and the wireless system. Turn the wireless system off and then back on. Alternatively, turn the wireless system off, disconnect the AC mains lead, and then reconnect it.

• Check that the home theater unit is turned on, and the wireless system is turned on.

• Ensure that the digital transmitter is fully inserted into the slot of the home theater unit.
