You can expand your phone system by registering optional handsets (a maximum of 6) to a single base unit. The recommended optional handset is model KX-TGA651E. Please note that optional handsets may be a different colour from that of the supplied handsets.

To prevent severe injury and loss of life/property, please observe the following safety warnings.

Power connection:

• Use only the power source marked on the product.

• Do not overload power outlets and extension cords.

• Completely insert the AC adaptor/power plug into the power outlet.

• Regularly remove any dust from the AC adaptor/power plug.

• Unplug the product if it emits smoke, an abnormal smell, or makes an unusual noise.

• Never touch the plug with wet hands.

Installation:

• Do not expose the product to rain or moisture.

• Do not place this product near automatically controlled devices like automatic doors or fire alarms.

• Do not allow the AC adaptor or telephone line cord to be excessively pulled, bent, or placed under heavy objects.

Operating safeguards:

• Unplug the product from power outlets before cleaning. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners.

• Do not disassemble the product.

• Do not spill liquids onto the telephone line cord plug.

Medical:

• Consult the manufacturer of any personal medical devices, such as pacemakers or hearing aids, to determine if they are adequately shielded from external RF energy.

• Do not use the product in health care facilities if regulations instruct you not to do so.

Base unit location/avoiding noise:

• For maximum coverage and noise-free communications, place your base unit at a convenient, high, and central location with no obstructions between the handset and base unit in an indoor environment.

• Place it away from electronic appliances such as TVs, radios, personal computers, or other phones.

• Position it facing away from radio frequency transmitters, such as external antennas of mobile phone cell stations.

• If reception is not satisfactory, move the base unit to another location for better reception.

Environment:

• Keep the product away from electrical noise generating devices, such as fluorescent lamps and motors.

• The product should be kept free from excessive smoke, dust, high temperature, and vibration.

• Do not expose the product to direct sunlight.

• When you leave the product unused for a long period of time, unplug it from the power outlet.

• The product should be kept away from heat sources and not placed in rooms where the temperature is less than 0 °C or greater than 40 °C. Damp basements should also be avoided.

Connections (Base Unit):

1. Use only the supplied Panasonic AC adaptor PQLV219E.

2. Press the AC adaptor plug firmly into the base unit until it clicks.

3. Connect the telephone line cord to the base unit and the telephone line jack.

4. Connect the AC adaptor to the power outlet. If you have a DSL/ADSL service, a filter (not supplied) is required.

Battery Installation (Handset):

1. Use ONLY Ni-MH batteries AAA (R03) size. Do NOT use Alkaline/Manganese/Ni-Cd batteries.

2. Confirm correct polarities (⊕, ⊖) when inserting the batteries.

3. Close the handset cover.

Battery Charge:

1. Place the handset on the base unit or charger.

2. Charge for about 7 hours. “Charging” will be displayed.

3. When the batteries are fully charged, the charge indicator goes off and “Fully charged” is displayed.

• Microphone: Speak into this during calls.

• Soft keys: Three keys below the display that perform the function shown directly above them on the screen.

• Navigator key (▲, ▼, ◀, ►): Used to scroll through lists and items. It also adjusts volume (▲/▼), views the caller list (◀), and views the redial list (▶).

Power on: Press and hold 【(Off/Power)】 for about 1 second.

Power off: Press and hold 【(Off/Power)】 for about 2 seconds.

Set Display Language:

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【1】【1】【0】.

2. Press 【▼】/【▲】 to select your desired language.

3. Press 【OK】 → 【(Off/Power)】.

Set Date and Time:

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【1】【0】【1】.

2. Enter the current date, month, and year (e.g., 150710 for 15 July, 2010). Press 【OK】.

3. Enter the current hour and minute (e.g., 0930 for 9:30). You can press the 【12/24】 soft key to select 12-hour or 24-hour format.

4. Press 【OK】 → 【(Off/Power)】.

One touch eco mode allows your PANASONIC KX-TG6522E to reduce the base unit transmission power by up to 90% in standby mode, which helps conserve energy. You can turn this mode on or off by pressing the 【ECO/R】 button on the handset.

• When on: “Low” is temporarily displayed and the ECO icon is shown on the handset display.

• When off: “Normal” is temporarily displayed and the ECO icon disappears.

Please note that activating this mode reduces the range of the base unit in standby mode and is cancelled if you turn on the repeater mode.

Making Calls:

1. Lift the handset and dial the phone number.

2. Press 【C】 or the right soft key.

3. When you finish talking, press 【(Off/Power)】 or place the handset on the base unit or charger.

Using the Speakerphone:

1. Dial the phone number and press 【(Speakerphone)】.

2. When you finish talking, press 【(Off/Power)】.

Answering Calls:

1. Lift the handset and press 【C】 or 【(Speakerphone)】 when the unit rings.

2. When you finish talking, press 【(Off/Power)】 or place the handset on the base unit or charger.

You can also turn on the “Auto talk” feature to answer calls simply by lifting the handset from the base or charger without pressing a button.

• Hold: Press 【MENU】 during a call, select “Hold” with 【▼】/【▲】, and press 【OK】. To release the hold, press 【C】.

• Mute: Press the mute soft key during a conversation to mute your microphone. Press it again to unmute.

• Recall/Flash: The 【ECO/R】 button allows you to use special features of your host PBX or access optional telephone services like call waiting.

• Call Share: You can join an existing outside call by pressing 【C】 on another registered handset.

The handset can be locked so that no calls or settings can be made, though incoming calls can still be answered.

• To turn key lock on: Press the menu soft key for about 3 seconds. The key lock icon will be displayed.

• To turn key lock off: Press the corresponding soft key for about 3 seconds.

Note that calls to emergency numbers cannot be made until the key lock is turned off.

You can add up to 100 names and phone numbers to the handset phonebook.

Adding Entries:

1. Press the phonebook soft key → menu soft key → 【▼】/【▲】: “Add New Entry” → 【OK】.

2. Enter the party’s name (max. 16 characters). Press 【OK】.

3. Enter the party’s phone number (max. 24 digits). Press 【OK】 twice.

4. Press 【(Off/Power)】.

Finding and Calling an Entry:

1. Press the phonebook soft key.

2. Scroll through the entries using 【▼】/【▲】 or search by the first character by pressing the corresponding dial key.

3. Press 【C】 to call.

Editing Entries:

1. Find the desired entry.

2. Press the menu soft key → 【▼】/【▲】: “Edit” → 【OK】.

3. Edit the name and press 【OK】.

4. Edit the phone number and press 【OK】 twice, then press 【(Off/Power)】.

Erasing an Entry:

1. Find the desired entry.

2. Press the menu soft key → 【▼】/【▲】: “Erase” → 【OK】 → 【▼】/【▲】: “Yes” → 【OK】 → 【(Off/Power)】.

You can copy phonebook entries between two Panasonic compatible handsets.

Copying a single entry:

1. Find the desired entry in the phonebook.

2. Press the menu soft key → 【▼】/【▲】: “Copy” → 【OK】.

3. Select the handset you want to send the entry to with 【▼】/【▲】. Press 【OK】.

4. Press 【(Off/Power)】 to exit.

Copying all entries:

1. Press the phonebook soft key → menu soft key.

2. Press 【▼】/【▲】: “Copy All” → 【OK】.

3. Select the handset you want to send the entries to with 【▼】/【▲】. Press 【OK】.

4. Press 【(Off/Power)】 to exit.

You can quickly program features by entering direct command codes.

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】.

2. Enter the desired code from the table below.

3. Select the desired setting, then press 【OK】.

Setting the Alarm:

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【7】【2】【0】.

2. Select the alarm option (“Off”, “Once”, or “Daily”) and press 【OK】.

3. If you selected “Once”, enter the date and month. Press 【OK】.

4. Set the desired time. Press 【OK】.

5. Select the desired alarm tone. Press 【OK】.

6. Press 【OK】 then 【(Off/Power)】.

Changing the Handset Name:

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【1】【0】【4】.

2. Enter the desired name (max. 10 characters). Press 【OK】.

3. Select if you want the name displayed in standby mode (“On” or “Off”). Press 【OK】 twice.

4. Press 【(Off/Power)】.

Incoming Call Barring (Caller ID subscribers only):

This feature allows the unit to reject calls from specified phone numbers.

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【2】【1】【7】 → “Add New Entry” soft key.

2. Enter the phone number you want to bar (max. 24 digits). Press 【OK】.

3. Press 【(Off/Power)】.

You can also bar a number directly from the caller list.

Registering a Handset:

1. Handset: Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【1】【3】【0】.

2. Base unit: Press and hold 【)))】 (Locator) for about 5 seconds, until the registration tone sounds.

3. Handset: Wait until “Base PIN” is displayed. Enter the base unit PIN (default: “0000”). Press 【OK】.

When the handset is registered successfully, the Y icon is displayed.

Deregistering a Handset:

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【1】【3】【1】.

2. All registered handsets are displayed. Select the handset you want to cancel using 【▼】/【▲】. Press 【OK】.

3. Select “Yes” and press 【OK】.

4. Press 【(Off/Power)】.

Turning the Answering System On/Off:

• Base unit: Press the 【(Answer on)】 button to turn the system on or off. The indicator lights up when on.

• Handset: To turn on, press 【MENU】→【#】【3】【2】【7】→【(Off/Power)】. To turn off, press 【MENU】→【#】【3】【2】【8】→【(Off/Power)】.

Listening to Messages:

• Base unit: Press 【►】 (Play). The unit will play new messages, or all messages if there are no new ones.

• Handset: To listen to new messages, press 【MENU】→【#】【3】【2】【3】. To listen to all messages, press 【MENU】→【#】【3】【2】【4】.

Erasing Messages:

• All messages (Base unit): Press 【X】 (Erase) twice while the unit is not in use.

• Currently playing message (Base unit): Press 【X】 during playback.

• All messages (Handset): Press 【MENU】→【#】【3】【2】【5】→【▼】/【▲】:”Yes”→【OK】.

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【3】【0】【2】.

2. Select “Yes” and press 【OK】.

3. After a beep sounds, hold the handset about 20 cm away and speak clearly into the microphone (max. 2 minutes and 30 seconds).

4. Press the “Stop” soft key to stop recording.

5. Press 【(Off/Power)】.

First, you must set a 3-digit remote access code.

Setting the Remote Access Code:

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【3】【0】【6】.

2. Enter the desired 3-digit remote access code.

3. Press 【OK】 → 【(Off/Power)】.

Using Remote Access:

1. Dial your phone number from a touch-tone phone.

2. After the greeting message starts, enter your remote access code.

3. The unit announces the number of new messages. You can now use remote commands.

4. When finished, hang up.

Making an Intercom Call:

1. Press the intercom soft key.

2. Select the desired handset and press 【OK】.

3. When you finish talking, press 【(Off/Power)】.

Handset Locator:

• Press 【)))】 on the base unit. All registered handsets will beep for 1 minute. Press the button again or 【(Off/Power)】 on any handset to stop.

Transferring Calls / Conference Calls:

1. During an outside call, press the menu soft key to put the call on hold.

2. Select the desired handset and press 【OK】 to page them.

3. Wait for the paged party to answer.

4. To complete the transfer: Press 【(Off/Power)】. The outside call is routed to the other handset.

5. To establish a conference call: Press the conference soft key. To leave the conference, press 【(Off/Power)】.

Base no power or No link. Reconnect AC adaptor.	The handset has lost communication with the base unit. Move closer to the base. Unplug the base unit’s AC adaptor to reset it, then reconnect. The handset may need to be re-registered.
Use rechargeable battery.	A wrong type of battery (e.g., Alkaline) was inserted. Use only the specified rechargeable Ni-MH batteries.
You must first subscribe to Caller ID.	You must subscribe to a Caller ID service to use this feature. This message will disappear once you receive caller information.

If the handset does not turn on even after installing charged batteries, place the handset on the base unit or charger to turn it on automatically.

• Make sure the batteries are installed correctly and fully charged.

• Check all connections (AC adaptor, telephone line cord).

• Unplug the base unit’s AC adaptor to reset the unit. Reconnect the adaptor and try again.

• The handset may not be registered to the base unit. Register the handset.

• Ensure you are using the supplied telephone line cord, as an old cord may have different wiring.

You need to change the display language. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【1】【1】【0】. Use the 【▼】/【▲】 keys to scroll through the available languages until you find the correct one, then press 【OK】.

• The maximum number of handsets (6) is already registered to the base unit. You must cancel unused handset registrations from the base unit before adding a new one.

• You may have entered the wrong PIN. The default PIN is “0000”. If you have forgotten your PIN, you will need to reset it.

You can change the PIN using the following method:

1. Press 【MENU】 → 【#】【1】【3】【2】.

2. Enter the master PIN: 【*】【7】【0】【0】【0】.

3. Enter the new 4-digit base unit PIN.

4. Press 【OK】 → 【(Off/Power)】.

If the handset beeps or the battery icon flashes even after a full charge, it may be time to replace the batteries. Before replacing them, try cleaning the battery ends (⊕, ⊖) and the charge contacts on the handset and base with a dry cloth, then charge again. If the problem persists, replace the batteries with new rechargeable Ni-MH batteries.

This indicates that the handset is too far from the base unit or is experiencing interference.

• Move closer to the base unit.

• Ensure the base unit’s AC adaptor is properly connected.

• The handset may have lost its registration to the base unit. Try re-registering it.

• If you are using one touch eco mode, it reduces the range of the base unit. Turn eco mode off if you need greater range.

• Reposition the base unit away from sources of high electrical interference.

The ringer volume may be turned off.

• For the handset: Press 【MENU】→【#】【1】【6】【0】, select a ringer level from 1 to 6, and press 【OK】.

• For the base unit: Press 【MENU】→【*】【1】【6】【0】, select a ringer level from 1 to 6, and press 【OK】.

• The handset may be too far from the base unit. Move closer and try again.

• Another unit on the same line may be in use. Wait and try again later.

• The answering system might be in use. Wait and try again later.

• The key lock feature might be turned on. Turn it off.

• You must subscribe to a Caller ID service from your telephone company.

• If your unit is connected to any additional telephone equipment (like a splitter or fax machine), try disconnecting it and plugging the phone directly into the wall jack.

• If you use a DSL/ADSL service, a DSL/ADSL filter is recommended between the base unit and the telephone line jack.

• Other telephone equipment may be causing interference. Disconnect the other equipment and try again.

• The answering system is turned off. Turn it on.

• The message memory is full. Erase unnecessary messages.

• The recording time is set to “Greeting Only”. Change this setting to allow for messages to be recorded.

• If you subscribe to a separate voice mail service from your phone company, that service may be answering calls before your phone’s system does. Change your phone’s “Number of Rings” setting to be fewer than the voice mail service’s setting.

1. Disconnect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord from the base unit.

2. Remove the batteries from the handset.

3. Leave all parts to dry for at least 3 days.

4. After the unit is completely dry, reconnect the AC adaptor and telephone line cord. Insert the batteries and charge fully before use.

If the unit does not work properly after these steps, contact an authorised service centre.

Caution: To avoid permanent damage, do not use a microwave oven to speed up the drying process.
