Yes, according to Part 68 of FCC Rules, the use of this telephone is prohibited in the following locations:

1. Places where a person with impaired hearing might be isolated in an emergency, such as elevators, automobiles, railroad or subway tunnels and highways.

2. Places where telephones are specifically installed to alert emergency authorities such as police or fire departments or medical assistance personnel.

Three AA size batteries are required to retain stored telephone numbers in memory.

To install the batteries:

1. Open the battery compartment cover on the underside of the unit by pulling the tab in the direction of the arrow while simultaneously pushing it.

2. Insert the three AA size batteries in the designated numerical order, observing the correct polarity (plus and minus).

To remove the batteries:

Press down on the negative (-) side of battery #3. It will then be easy to remove it and the others after it.

Notes:

• Battery life is about 10 months.

• If the ON/OFF Indicator flashes four times when the ON/OFF Button is pushed or when the handset is lifted, this indicates a lack of power. Replace all of the batteries early.

• Replace the batteries within 10 minutes of removing the old ones to prevent the loss of all stored telephone numbers. Be sure to set the Memory Switch to the “SET” position before replacing batteries.

• Disconnect the telephone cord from the unit when you replace the batteries.

Precautions:

• Use batteries of the same type; do not mix different types of batteries (e.g., carbon-zinc with alkaline or nickel-cadmium).

• Do not charge, short-circuit, disassemble, heat, or dispose of the batteries in fire.

• Remove dead batteries from the set immediately.

This unit can receive its operating power from either the telephone line or from the optional AC adaptor (KX-A01-W).

To receive power from the telephone line:

Set the Power Selector to the “TEL LINE” position.

Notes:

• If the memory retention batteries must be replaced more often than twice a year, power this unit with the optional AC Adaptor.

• If the incoming and outgoing voice levels are low or the ON/OFF Indicator does not light when you use the unit as a speakerphone, use the optional AC Adaptor.

To receive power from the optional AC Adaptor (KX-A01-W):

Set the Power Selector to the “AC ADAPTOR” position.

• Secure the AC adaptor cord to the holder to prevent the AC Adaptor plug from accidentally disconnecting.

• Telephone numbers can be dialed manually with the handset off-hook by switching from “AC ADAPTOR” to “TEL LINE” position when a power failure takes place, or at any time.

This unit is designed to connect directly to a standard modular jack (RJ11C). Connect the telephone cord from the base unit to the telephone line jack. Connect the handset cord from the handset to the base unit. Do not use any handset other than the one provided for model KX-T2130.

• When another telephone is in operation, pushing the ON/OFF Button may not activate this unit. At that time, the conversation can be heard and you can speak if you lift the handset.

• When this unit is in operation as a speakerphone, operating another telephone will cause the incoming voice not to be heard from the speaker of this unit. If you lift the handset at this time, you can hear and talk with the other party.

• By using an optional AC Adaptor (KX-A01-W), pushing the ON/OFF Button will activate the unit and the conversation can be heard through the speaker. Moreover, the incoming voice (when this unit is in operation as a speakerphone) will not be interrupted by another telephone.

• When using three telephone sets or more, it is recommended to use the optional AC Adaptor.

To prevent the handset from falling off the cradle when the phone is wall-mounted, set the handset guide to the wall-mount position by pulling it up and rotating it.

If you wish to temporarily place the handset down during a conversation, you can hook the handset onto the top of the main unit.

1. Connect the short telephone cord furnished with the unit to the telephone line cord jack at the rear of the main unit and lay the cord in the groove at the bottom of the unit.

2. Fold the folding stand and fasten it with the retaining clip on each side.

3. Connect the cord to the modular jack of the wall phone plate.

4. Mount the unit to the wall phone plate so that the studs on the plate insert into the slots on the underside of the unit. The unit will be seated securely by the upper and lower studs hooking respectively into the upper and lower slots.

This unit can be mounted on a wooden wall with two screws and washers (included). Note: Make certain the installed screws and wall can support a weight of about 44 pounds.

1. Stick the leaflet (included) on the wall.

2. Pass a screw through a washer and install the screw into the wooden wall as shown on the leaflet. The screws should be 3 and 15/16 inches apart.

3. Peel off the tape which adheres to the cushion rubber, and paste the cushion rubber on the underside of the unit.

4. Mount the unit on the wall so that the screw heads insert into the slots on the underside of the unit. The unit will be seated securely by the upper and lower screws hooking respectively into the upper and lower slots.

• Upper/Lower Station Selectors: Used to select the upper or lower memory station when storing or automatically dialing numbers.

• Memory Station Buttons: Used to access the memory locations to store or automatically dial numbers.

• Dialing Buttons: Used for manual dialing and entering telephone numbers into memory.

• ON/OFF Indicator: Lights when the hands-free telephone is turned on.

• ON/OFF Button: Push to turn the unit on or off for hands-free operation.

• Memory/Mute Indicator: When the Memory Switch is in the “PROGRAM” position, it lights or goes out during programming. It lights during mute operation when the Memory Switch is in the “SET” position.

• Flash Button: To use for call waiting and call transfer, push the Flash Button. The flash time is 0.6 seconds when pushed lightly. It can be stored into memory.

• Pause Button: Push when an interruption is needed in the dialing sequence, for the purpose of redialing.

• Redial Button: Push to redial the most recently dialed telephone number.

• Mute Button: Push to mute or cancel the mute during a conversation.

• Memory Switch: In the “PROGRAM” position, numbers can be stored into memory. In the “SET” position, numbers can be dialed automatically or manually, with the handset on-hook or off-hook.

• Tone/Pulse Selector: To enable dialing with tones or rotary type pulses.

• Speaker Volume Control: Adjusts the volume of the speakerphone.

• Tone Ringer Volume Selector: To select the sound level (OFF/LOW/HIGH) of the tone ringer.

• Power Selector: Selects the operating power source (TEL LINE or AC ADAPTOR).

Up to 30 digits can be stored in each memory station. Make sure the telephone handset is resting in the cradle.

1. Be sure the Memory Switch is in the “PROGRAM” position. The Memory Indicator will be lit.

2. Set the Tone/Pulse Selector.

3. Push the Upper or Lower Station Selector and the desired Memory Station Button (1-12).

4. Enter the phone number using the dialing buttons and push the Memory Button (memory station button 14).

Each time a button is pushed, a confirmation tone will sound. When a telephone number needs a “flash,” it can be stored in the same manner by pressing the Flash Button as part of the number sequence.

To store a line access number (e.g., 9) and a telephone number (e.g., 123-4567) into the lower memory location number 1:

1. Set the Memory Switch to “PROGRAM”.

2. Press the Lower Station Selector [L].

3. Press Memory Station Button [1].

4. Press the dialing button [9].

5. Press the [PAUSE] button.

6. Press the dialing buttons [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7].

7. Press the [MEMORY] button (memory station button 14) to complete storage.

You can store the local access number, pauses, authorization number, and long-distance number in one memory location. For example, to store the sequence for a service like MCI or SPRINT into the upper memory location number 3:

1. Set the Memory Switch to “PROGRAM”.

2. Press the Upper Station Selector [U].

3. Press Memory Station Button [3].

4. Enter the local access telephone number (e.g., 7654321).

5. Press the [PAUSE] button once or twice as needed to wait for the tone.

6. Enter your authorization number (e.g., 0123456).

7. Enter the long-distance number (e.g., 5432109876).

8. Press the [MEMORY] button (memory station button 14).

To store a “flash” and a telephone number (e.g., 12345) to which a call is transferred into the upper memory location number 5:

1. Set the Memory Switch to “PROGRAM”.

2. Press the Upper Station Selector [U].

3. Press Memory Station Button [5].

4. Press the [FLASH] button.

5. Enter the telephone number by pressing the dialing buttons [1], [2], [3], [4], [5].

6. Press the [MEMORY] button (memory station button 14) to save.

If there is an incoming call while you are storing a number with the Memory Switch set to “PROGRAM,” you may receive the call by simply pushing the ON/OFF Button or by lifting the handset. In this case, the incomplete storage that was in progress is canceled. You will need to re-store the telephone number from the beginning.

Make sure the Memory Switch is in the “SET” position.

To use as a speakerphone:

1. Push the ON/OFF Button. The ON/OFF Indicator will light up.

2. Push the Upper or Lower Station Selector and the Memory Station Button for the number you wish to call.

3. When the other party answers, adjust the sound level using the Speaker Volume Control and speak into the microphone. If the called number is busy, the unit will automatically shut off.

4. Push the ON/OFF Button when the conversation is completed.

To use as a normal telephone:

1. Lift the handset.

2. Push the Upper or Lower Station Selector and the Memory Station Button.

3. When the called party answers, start to talk.

4. Upon completion of the call, hang up the handset.

Set the Tone/Pulse Selector to the desired dialing position.

To use as a speakerphone:

1. Push the ON/OFF Button.

2. Push the Dialing Buttons in the same manner as a typical telephone.

3. When the other party answers, speak into the microphone.

4. Push the ON/OFF Button when the conversation is completed.

To use as a normal telephone:

Lift the handset and use in the same manner as a typical telephone.

When the called number is busy, you may simply push the Redial Button without releasing and reseizing the line.

1. Push the Redial Button.

• As long as the dialed number is busy, the unit will automatically redial, with a maximum of 15 attempts, spanning 10 minutes.

• Between redialing sequences, the ON/OFF indicator will blink once every two seconds.

• If there is an incoming call or if you lift the handset, the automatic redial operation will be canceled.

2. When the called party is reached, speak into the microphone, adjusting the sound level with the Speaker Volume Control.

A. On-hook dialing

1. Push the ON/OFF Button to shut off the redial operation. The ON/OFF Indicator will stop blinking.

2. Push the ON/OFF Button again to seize the line. The ON/OFF Indicator will light up.

3. Dial the new telephone number manually or automatically.

B. Off-hook dialing

1. Lift the handset to shut off the redial operation and to seize the line.

2. Dial the new telephone number manually or automatically.

To use as a speakerphone (hands-free):

1. Push the ON/OFF Button until the ON/OFF Indicator is lit and speak into the microphone.

2. Push the ON/OFF Button again to terminate the call.

To use as a normal telephone (with handset off-hook):

1. Lift the handset and speak.

2. Hang up the handset to terminate the call.

To switch from normal telephone to speakerphone:

Simply push the ON/OFF Button and then you can speak into the microphone after placing the handset on the cradle. The ON/OFF Indicator will light up.

To switch from speakerphone to normal telephone:

Simply lift the handset and you can talk through the handset. The ON/OFF Indicator will go out. If you push the ON/OFF Button instead of lifting the handset, the unit will shut off.

• Canceling the mute: If the Mute Indicator is lit before speaking into the microphone, push the Mute Button in order to be heard by the other party.

• Echo Effect: Rooms with bare hard surface walls and floors generally reflect sounds more readily. The solution is to reduce overall sound levels and place sound-absorbing furnishings in the room.

• Loss of All or Part of An Incoming Call: When this unit is used in a noisy room, all or part of the incoming call may not be heard. To eliminate this problem, lower the noise level in the room.

• When Talking Simultaneously: If both parties are talking at the same time, this unit will give precedence to the higher volume sound, and cause some parts of the conversation to be lost. To eliminate this problem, wait until the other party pauses or stops talking.

The Flash Button is used for call transfer and special telephone line features like call waiting.

• For call transfer:

In automatic dialing, push the Memory Station Button containing the stored flash and telephone number.

In manual dialing, push the Flash Button and then dial the telephone number.

• For call waiting:

Push the Flash Button and then start to talk.

The flash time is 0.6 seconds when pushed quickly. The telephone line is released during the flash time.

To confirm a stored number, repeat the procedure of storing the number.

• When the Memory Indicator flashes twice: The entry is the same as what was previously stored.

• When the Memory Indicator flashes once: The entry is different than the one that was previously stored. In this case, it is suggested that you repeat the procedure of storing the number until the Memory Indicator flashes twice.

Pushing the Clear Button (memory station button 13) instead of the Memory Button will cause the newly stored number to be cleared during the storing procedure.

1. Push the Clear Button until the Memory Indicator is lit to correct an error.

The error number (the one you were in the process of entering) is cleared. The previously stored number in that location is not cleared by the Clear Button.

For automatic dialing, a pause is needed in the dialing sequence to wait for the sound of a dial tone or a computer tone (e.g., when dialing through a PBX or using a long-distance service). The Mute Indicator will be lit during the pause time to indicate the mute mode.

• Pushing the Pause Button once will enter a dial tone detection pause.

• Pushing the Pause Button twice will enter a computer tone detection pause.

When a dial tone or a computer tone is “heard” from the telephone line, the dialing sequence is resumed.

To change a stored telephone number:

1. Be sure the handset is resting on-hook.

2. Be sure the Memory Switch is in the “PROGRAM” position.

3. Set the Tone/Pulse Selector.

4. Push the Upper or Lower Station Selector.

5. Push the Memory Station Button that corresponds to the memory station to be changed.

6. Enter the new number and push the Memory Button (memory station button 14).

7. Set the Memory Switch to the “SET” position.

To erase a stored telephone number from a memory station:

1. Be sure the handset is resting on-hook.

2. Be sure the Memory Switch is in the “PROGRAM” position.

3. Push the Upper or Lower Station Selector.

4. Push the Memory Station Button that corresponds to the memory station to be erased.

5. Push the Memory Button (memory station button 14).

6. Set the Memory Switch to the “SET” position.
