WARNINGS:

• Use this unit only in the manner intended by the manufacturer.

• Before servicing or cleaning the unit, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent power from being switched on accidentally.

• Installation work and electrical wiring must be done by a qualified person(s) in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including fire-rated construction.

• Ensure sufficient air for proper combustion and exhausting of gases through the flue (chimney) of fuel-burning equipment to prevent back-drafting.

• When cutting or drilling into a wall or ceiling, do not damage electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.

• Ducted fans must always be vented to the outdoors.

• If this unit is installed over a tub or shower, it must be marked as appropriate for the application and be connected to a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protected branch circuit.

• Do not disassemble the unit for reconstruction, as it may cause fire or electric shock.

• When the product is no longer to be used, it must be removed to prevent it from possibly falling.

• The ceiling joist must be subjected to a static load more than five times the weight of the product.

• Do not install with a method which is not approved in the instructions.

• This product must be properly grounded.

• For Canada only: Not to be installed in a ceiling thermally insulated to a value greater than R40.

CAUTIONS:

• Do not install this ventilating fan where the interior room temperature may exceed 104°F (40°C).

• Make sure that the electric service supply voltage is AC 120V, 60Hz.

• Follow all local electrical and safety codes, as well as the National Electrical Code (NEC) and the Occupation Safety and Health Act (OSHA).

• Always disconnect the power source before working on or near the fan, motor, light fixture, or junction box.

• Protect the supply wiring from sharp edges, oil, grease, hot surfaces, chemicals, or other objects.

• Do not kink the supply wiring.

• Provide make-up air for proper ventilation.

• For general ventilating use only. Do not use to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials and vapors.

• Do not install the unit where ducts are configured in a prohibited manner (e.g., with sharp bends right at the unit).

• This unit is not for use in a cooking area.

• Use special-purpose or dedicated parts, such as mounting fixtures, if they are provided.

The following accessories are included with your PANASONIC FV-15VQL6 ventilating fan. Please verify all parts are present before installation.

The main components of the PANASONIC FV-15VQL6 are identified as follows:

To wire the PANASONIC FV-15VQL6, connect the house power supply (AC120V 60Hz) to the fan’s junction box wires as follows, using UL approved wire nuts:

• For the Ventilating Fan (VENT.): Connect the house power’s Black (Live) wire to the fan’s Black wire. Connect the house power’s White (Neutral) wire to the fan’s White wire.

• For the Main Light (LIGHT): Connect the corresponding switch’s Black (Live) wire to the fan’s Black wire designated for the light.

• For the Night Light (N.LIGHT): Connect the corresponding switch’s Black (Live) wire to the fan’s Black wire designated for the night light.

• For Grounding: Connect the house power’s Green (Earth ground) wire to the fan’s Green ground wire.

All neutral connections for the fan, main light, and night light share the same White (Neutral) wire from the power supply.

There are two methods for installation with joist spacing between 16 inches (406 mm) and 24 inches (609 mm).

Installation Method I (Joist Mounting):

1. Preparation: Remove the tape from the damper and adaptor before installation.

2. Attach Brackets to Fan: Insert suspension bracket I and suspension bracket II into the fan body. Connect them using screw I (ST4.2X6), selecting the connection holes appropriate for your joist spacing (16 1/2″ – 18 3/4″ or 21 1/4″ – 23 1/2″).

3. Mount to Joists: Position the fan assembly between the joists. Secure the suspension brackets and the flange of the frame to the joists using four long screws (ST4.2X20). Secure the brackets to the fan body using screw II (ST4.2X14).

4. Continue with ducting, wiring, and finishing steps.

Installation Method II (Suspension Brackets Mounting):

1. Attach Brackets: Insert suspension bracket I and II into the fan body. Insert suspension bracket III (for 16″ or 19″ joists) or IV (for 24″ joists) into the adaptor.

2. Mount to Joists: Position the fan assembly between the joists. Install the suspension brackets to the joists using six long screws (ST4.2X20). Secure the brackets to the fan body using screw II (ST4.2X14).

3. Continue with ducting, wiring, and finishing steps.

For joist spacing between 10 1/2 inches (266 mm) and 11 1/2 inches (292 mm), follow these steps:

1. Position the fan body between the joists.

2. Secure the fan by driving four long screws (ST 4.2X20) through the holes in the flange of the fan frame directly into the joists.

3. Proceed with the standard steps for ducting, wiring, and finishing the installation.

After mounting the fan body between the joists, complete the installation as follows:

1. Install Duct: Install a 4 or 6-inch circular duct to the fan’s adaptor. Secure it with clamps or wire ties and seal the connection with mastic or approved duct tape.

2. Wiring: Remove the junction box cover. Secure the electrical conduit or stress relief to the junction box knock-out hole. Following all local electrical codes and the wiring diagram, use UL approved wire nuts to connect the house power wires to the fan wires.

3. Secure Junction Box Cover: Mount the junction box cover carefully, ensuring that lead wires are not pinched.

4. Finish Ceiling: Complete the ceiling work. The ceiling hole should be aligned with the inside edge of the fan’s flange. Fill any gap between the flange and the ceiling with caulk or another sealant to prevent air leakage. Important: Remove the tapes from the louver and springs before final installation.

5. Install Lamps: Remove the light cover screw (M4X8) and the light cover. Install the 4W night lamp and the two 13W fluorescent lamps.

6. Install Light Cover: Re-install the light cover and secure it with the screw (M4X8).

7. Install Grille: Insert one of the grille’s mounting springs into its slot. Plug the lighting unit connector into its housing, ensuring the claw on the connector latches completely onto the rib. Insert the other mounting spring into its slot and carefully push the grille up to mount it to the fan body. Ensure the lighting unit’s lead wire is not pinched.

Routine maintenance should be performed every year. Before you begin, disconnect the power source.

CAUTION:

• Never use gasoline, benzene, thinner, or any other such chemicals for cleaning.

• Do not immerse the motor in water when cleaning.

• Do not soak resin parts in water over 140°F (60°C).

Cleaning Steps:

1. Clean Grille: Remove the grille. Clean it using a non-abrasive kitchen detergent and water. Do not put it in hot water. Wipe it dry with a clean cloth.

2. Dry Grille: Ensure the grille is completely dry before reinstalling.

3. Clean Fan Body: Remove dust and dirt from the fan body using a vacuum cleaner.

4. Wipe Fan Body: Use a cloth dampened with kitchen detergent to remove any remaining dirt from the fan body. Wipe dry with a clean cloth.

5. Replace Grille: Reinstall the clean, dry grille.

WARNING: Disconnect the power source before working on the unit. Make sure the temperature of the lens and lighting unit has cooled down before maintenance.

1. Remove Grille: Carefully pull down one mounting spring to release one side of the grille. Remove the plug connector for the light, then pull down the other mounting spring to completely remove the grille.

2. Remove Light Cover: Remove the screw (M4X8) securing the light cover, then remove the light cover itself to access the lamps.

3. Replace Fluorescent Lamps: The two 13W fluorescent lamps (Maxlite MLS13GU35) have a pin-type base. The lamp’s glass is fragile; to remove, pull them straight out carefully.

4. Replace Night Lamp: The 4W night lamp has a threaded base. Remove it by turning it counterclockwise.

5. Install New Lamps: Install the new 4W night lamp by turning it clockwise. Install the new 13W fluorescent lamps by pushing them straight into their sockets.

6. Reinstall Light Cover: Place the light cover back on and secure it with the screw (M4X8).

7. Reinstall Grille: Reconnect the plug connector and reinstall the grille by inserting the mounting springs into their slots.

Note on Mercury Content: This product has a fluorescent lamp that contains mercury. Dispose of or recycle in accordance with applicable laws.

The PANASONIC FV-15VQL6 contains two self-ballast fluorescent lamps and complies with Part 18 of the FCC Rules. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the product on and off, you are encouraged to try to correct the interference by one of the following measures:

• Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.

• Increase the separation between the equipment and the receiver.

• Connect the equipment to an outlet on a circuit different from that to which the receiver is connected.

• Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.

For optimal performance of your PANASONIC FV-15VQL6, follow these installation guidelines:

• Insulation: Properly insulate the area around the fan housing to minimize building heat loss and gain. Loose fill or batt insulation can be placed directly over the fan housing in the attic.

• Ducting: The ducting from the fan to the outside of the building has a strong effect on air flow, noise, and energy use. Use the shortest, straightest duct routing possible for best performance.

• Duct Size: Avoid installing the fan with ducts smaller than recommended. Fans installed with existing ducts may not achieve their rated air flow.

• Duct Sealing: Use a short piece of flexible duct to help with alignment and absorb sound. Mechanically connect all ducting and seal all joints with mastic or approved foil-faced tape to prevent leaks.

• Duct Insulation: Insulating the ductwork can reduce energy loss and inhibit mold growth.
