What is propane gas like?
Propane gas is invisible, odorless, and flammable. An odorant is normally added to help detect leaks and can be described as a “rotten egg” smell. However, the odorant can fade over time, so leaking gas is not always detectable by smell alone. Propane gas is heavier than air and leaking propane will sink to the lowest level possible. It can ignite by ignition sources many feet away from the original leak. Only propane gas set up for vapor withdrawal should be used. Propane gas should be stored or used in compliance with local ordinances and codes or with ANSI/NFPA 58. Propane should be turned off when not in use.

What types of fuel/gas can this appliance use?
This appliance can use two types of fuel/gas: LPG-Propane OR Natural Gas.
What is the suitable LP gas tank size for this appliance?
The suitable LP gas tank size for this appliance is 20 lb (9.1 kg). Do not fill the LP gas tank with more than 80% liquid gas.
What is the inlet gas supply pressure for adjustment?
The inlet gas supply pressure for input adjustment pressure is: LPG-Propane 28 cm (11 in) w.c. (2.74kPa) and Natural Gas 18 cm (7 in) w.c. (1.74kPa).
What must be done during pressure testing of the gas supply piping system?
The appliance must be isolated from the gas supply piping system by closing its individual manual shut-off valve during any pressure testing of the gas supply piping system at test pressures equal to or less than 1/2 psi (3.5kPa). The appliance and its individual shut-off valve must be disconnected from the gas supply piping system during any pressure testing on that system at test pressures in excess of 1/2 psi (3.5kPa).
What are the requirements for the LP-gas supply cylinder?
The LP-gas supply cylinder to be used must be constructed and marked in accordance with the U.S. Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) Specifications for LP-Gas Cylinders; provided with a listed overfilling prevention device; and provided with a cylinder connection device compatible with the connection for the appliance.
How do I connect an LP gas tank?
Ensure the LP gas tank valve is closed by turning it clockwise. Before connecting, be sure that there is no debris caught in the head of the LP gas tank, head of the regulator valve, or in the head of the burner and burner ports. Connect the regulator/hose assembly to the tank by turning the knob clockwise.
How do I disconnect an LP gas tank?
Before disconnecting, make sure the LP gas tank valve is “CLOSED.” Disconnect the regulator/hose assembly from the LP gas tank by turning the knob counterclockwise until it is loose. Note that the LP gas tank must be properly disconnected and removed prior to moving this pit.
How is a natural gas connection made?
A professionally-installed shut-off valve between the supply piping and the socket is recommended but not required by the National Fuel Gas Code. The socket connection must be made outdoors. Coat the gas supply pipe nipple with gas-resistant pipe dope or approved Teflon tape. Screw the socket onto the gas supply pipe (house gas source) and wrench-tighten. Pull back the sleeve on the quick disconnect socket and insert the unattached end of the gas hose into the socket. Release the sleeve and continue pushing the hose into the socket until the sleeve snaps into the locked position. When the quick disconnect socket and the gas hose are connected, a valve in the socket opens automatically to permit full gas flow. When the gas hose is disconnected, the valve in the socket instantly and positively shuts off the flow of gas. The grill can be disconnected from the gas source by disconnecting the gas hose from the quick disconnect socket. The socket should be left attached to the gas source (hose piping). With proper assembly, the gas hose cannot be removed without pushing the quick disconnect sleeve back. To disconnect, push the sleeve back and pull the plug out of the sleeve (this automatically shuts off gas).
When should I perform a leak test?
You should never use your fire pit without leak testing all gas connections, hoses, and the propane tank. Perform a leak test after assembling your fire pit and before lighting it for the first time, even if purchased fully-assembled; every time the LP gas cylinder is refilled or exchanged, or if any of the gas components are disconnected or replaced; any time your fire pit has been moved; and at least once per year or if your fire pit has not been used for more than 60 days.
How do I perform a leak test?
To perform a leak test, first ensure you are outdoors in a well-ventilated area protected from the wind, and that there are no ignition sources nearby. Never use a match or open flame to test for leaks, and never perform a leak test while the fire pit is in use or still hot. Create a mixture of 50% water and 50% liquid dishwashing soap. Ensure all control knobs are set to the OFF position. Turn on the gas at the cylinder valve by turning the knob counter-clockwise until fully opened. If you hear a rushing sound or smell gas, turn the gas off and tighten any leaking connections. If the leak is detected at the connection nut and tightening does not stop it, re-inspect the propane tank rubber seal. Apply the soapy water mixture to all supply tank (cylinder) welds, the connection nut to the tank valve, the back side of the connection nut to the brass nipple, the brass nipple connection into the regulator, regulator connections to gas supply hoses, the hose connection to the gas manifold, the full length of the gas supply hose, and the tank valve to the cylinder. Check each place for growing bubbles, which indicate a leak. Large leaks may not be detected by bubbles but should produce a rushing sound or gas smell. Turn off the gas supply at the cylinder valve, then turn on the control knobs to release gas pressure in the hose, and then turn the control knobs back to the OFF position. Tighten any leaking connections and repeat the soapy water test until no leaks are detected. Finally, turn off the gas supply at the cylinder valve until you are ready to use your fire pit and wash off any soapy residue with cold water and towel dry. Remember, the leak test must be performed in an area with adequate lighting and without wind or excessive noise. Natural gas leak testing is similar to LP gas leak testing.
What should I keep away from the outdoor gas cooking appliance area?
Keep the outdoor gas cooking appliance area clear and free from combustible materials, gasoline, and other flammable vapors and liquids.
What should I check and clean on the burner/venturi tubes?
Check and clean burner/venturi tubes for insects and insect nests, as a clogged tube can lead to a fire beneath the grill.
What should I not obstruct?
Do not obstruct the flow of combustion and ventilation air. Keep the ventilation opening of the LP gas tank area free and clear from debris.
What caution should I take when lighting the burner?
Attempting to light the burner with the lid closed may cause an explosion.
How do I light the fire pit?
- Read instructions before lighting.
- Ensure the control knob is in the OFF position.
- Connect the propane cylinder or open the gas supply line.
- Push and turn the control knob counter-clockwise to LOW. Hold the knob until just before the flames go out.
- Press the IGNITION button and hold for up to 5 seconds to light the burner.
