Fig. 1: Communication Options with the Pocket PC/Hydras 3 Pocket. Introduction Hydras 3 Pocket expands the application spectrum of the Hydras 3 product family to include use on PDA's (Personal Digital Assistant), and especially Pocket PCs. With the Hydras 3 Pocket, you can easily and comfortably configure, download data and display instantaneous values through the Observer function on site for sensors with an integrated datalogger or for the LogoSens station manager (for details, see below). The communication link is set up through an internal infrared interface (IrDA) in the Pocket PC, or via an RS-232 line connection. Read in mea surements can be displayed in graphical form or as a table. The further processing of measured data is done on a standard PC after transferring to Hydras 3 Basic, Hydras 3 or Hydras 3 Pro. Hydras 3 Pocket also offers the option of saving the measured values that have been downloaded in OTT raw data format or text format in separate files. for example Orphimedes

If other hardware or software is used, slight modifications may need to be made. For information on how to do so, consult the Readme file on the Hydras 3 Pocket Installation CD-ROM and the handbook of the Pocket PC you are using. Overview Installation of the delivered product HP iPAQ Pocket PC 3715* including Hydras 3 Pocket * or similar model of another manufacturer/ next generation model If you purchase a Pocket PC by OTT, you will receive Hydras 3 Pocket already preinstalled. No further installation is required in this case. If you wish to copy data from the PocketPC to a conventional PC, you must have already installed the ActiveSync synchronisation software from Microsoft onto the PC. ActiveSync is part of the scope of supply of the Pocket PC. Alternatively, ActiveSync can be downloaded at no charge from the Internet page microsoft.com. Hydras 3 Pocket (without Pocket PC) Preconditions for installation: – Pocket PC with infrared and RS-232 interface (optional); ARM compatible processor (for example, Intel® XScale™, Samsung S3C 2440); clock frequency 300 MHz; working memory 64 MB; operating system: Windows Mobile 2003 (Pocket PC 2003) or later – Current standard PC (desktop or tower model or notebook) with operating system Microsoft Windows® 98 or later – Synchronisation software Microsoft ActiveSync® as from version 3.7 or later – Installation file Hydras3Pocket_PPC.ARMV4.CAB – Pocket PC/standard PC line connection or link via infrared interface (optional) or Blue Tooth (optional). Installing the Hydras 3 Pocket: Start ActiveSync on the standard PC. Set up a new partnership (guest partnership) between the PocketPC and the standard PC (e.g. via a USB or infrared connection). Copy the file "Hydras3Pocket_PPC.ARMV4.CAB" to the Pocket PC in the Temp directory (not in the program directory!). Start file "Hydras3Pocket_PPC.ARMV4.CAB“ on the Pocket PC. The Pocket PC will now install Hydras 3 Pocket in the program directory. If necessary, create a link to the start menu (Start > Settings > Personal > tab Menus > activate Hydras3Pocket check box.) When first starting Hydras 3 Pocket, input the license key. The license key is located on the CD-ROM box (adhesive label). Notes: If you do not input a license key (pressing Cancel when asked for the license key), Hydras 3 Pocket runs in demo mode with greatly limited functionality. Hydras 3 Pocket automatically sets the language of the user interface upon installation to the language of the Pocket PC’s operating system. Available languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Italian, traditional Chinese, simplified Chinese. For all other operating system languages Hydras 3 Pocket uses English. Caution! When using Windows Mobile 2003 operating system: Recharge the batteries to your Pocket PC regularly! A completely dead main and reserve battery will completely erase the Hydras 3 Pocket software and all mea surements read in (this behaviour has been fixed for Windows Mobile 2005). 6 Making necessary basic adjustments Three basic settings must be made on the PocketPC to ensure that the Hydras 3 Pocket works properly. Deactivate automatic acceptance of incoming infrared transmissions: Click Start > Settings > Connections tab > Transmit. Deactivate checkbox Receive all incoming beams. Confirm the setting: press ok. This setting prevents the built-in infrared interface from being continuously in use by being in a state of permanent readiness to receive any incoming trans missions. Deactivate the automatic device shut-off: Click on Start > Settings > System tab > Power > Advanced tab. On battery power: Deactivate the Turn off device if not used for check box. Confirm the setting: press ok. This setting prevents the PocketPC from switching off by itself during active communication (the Download data and Configure device functions). Caution: Turn the PocketPC off each time after use, using the on/off switch! Setting the communications channels (IrDA/RS232): Start Hydras 3 Pocket. Click on the Settings > Communication tab. For the Thalimedes*, Orphimedes, Pluvio NADP*, LogoSens* and Orpheus Mini dataloggers, activate the Utilize IrDA checkbox.
