For the MOULTRIE M-888I, please follow these battery guidelines:

– Only use Alkaline or Lithium batteries. The use of Energizer batteries is recommended.

Follow these steps to quickly set up your MOULTRIE M-888I with factory default settings:

Step 1: Open the camera cover and press the battery chamber release button. Install eight (8) AA size alkaline or lithium batteries, noting the polarities indicated on the Battery Tray. Re-install the Battery Tray and insert your SD card. It is recommended to erase the SD card (ERASE IMAGES) inside the camera before first use to format it.

Step 2: Insert the SD Memory Card until you hear an audible click. Slide the power switch to Quick Start. Press the Left button to set the time and date.

Step 3: Mount the camera in the desired location using a mounting strap. The camera must be attached to a stable object for proper motion detection to avoid false triggers.

Step 4: Switch the camera to Aim. Walk in front of the camera at the desired distance to determine the target area. The camera’s LED will flash, showing the covered area. Once aimed, switch the camera to Quick Start.

Step 5: Close the cover. The camera will now operate using the default settings.

QUICK START / CUSTOM START / AIM / OFF Switch:

– Aim: When Aim is ON and the motion sensor detects motion, the red LED Status Indicator on the front of the camera will turn on and stay lit as long as motion is detected. This helps in positioning the camera.

1. Motion Detect: Captures a photo or video when motion or heat is detected.

2. Time Lapse: Captures photos at periodic intervals based on the Time Lapse program setting.

3. Motion + Time Lapse: Uses a combination of Time Lapse and Motion Detect modes at different times of the day. The camera operates in Time Lapse mode during programmed intervals and Motion Detect mode for the remainder of the day.

Press the Right button to move to start capture after selecting a mode. Options for Motion and Time Lapse can be set in their respective option menus.

Detection Delay: Determines the time between pictures when an animal is detected. Press OK, then use Up/Down buttons to choose between 0 sec, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, 5 min, 10 min, or 30 min. Press OK to confirm.

PIR Sensitivity: Controls the trigger distance and sensitivity. Press OK, then use Up/Down buttons to choose between HIGH (for open areas, more distance, but more susceptible to false triggers) or LOW (for close range and wooded areas). Press OK to confirm.

Multi-Shot: Choose how many pictures are captured per trigger event. Press OK, then use Up/Down buttons to choose an option:

– 1 (OFF): Single photo per event.

– 3 BURST: Three photos captured rapidly within one second. Burst mode is limited to 4MP captures.

– 3 TRIGGERED: Up to three photos per event with a one-second delay between each. This allows for multiple captures if the subject remains in the field of view.

Photo or Video: Press OK, then use Up/Down buttons to choose between capturing a Photo, Video, or Both.

Reset Options: Allows you to reset Motion Detect settings to a predefined configuration.

Interval Time Setting: Press the OK button. Use the Up/Down buttons to choose between 10 or 30 seconds; 1, 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes; or 1, 2, 3, 6, 12 hours or 1 day. Press the Left button to go to the next option.

Setting Program Wake up (Start Time): Press OK. Use the Up/Down buttons to choose any hour from MIDNIGHT to 11 PM for the camera to start its time lapse program. Setting to ALWAYS ON will make the camera operate in time lapse 24 hours/day. Press Left to continue.

Setting Program Sleep (Stop Time): After setting the wake-up time, the camera moves to the Sleep option. Set the time for the camera to stop time lapse photography. Press OK to confirm. Press Left to continue.

You can repeat these steps for Program #2. WARNING: If Program #1 is set to Always On, settings for Program #2 will be disabled.

Reset Options: Press OK and use the Up/Down buttons to choose to reset your Timelapse options.

Setting Photo Quality: Press the OK button. Use the Up/Down buttons to choose between 4 image resolution settings:

– Max Zoom: 4992 x 2808

– High: 3840 x 2160

– Medium: 2688 x 1512

– Low: 1920 x 1080

Press OK to confirm.

Setting Motion Freeze: This feature maximizes image clarity during night photos by adjusting exposure time to reduce motion blur. When OFF, the camera uses a maximum exposure time to increase flash range and brightness. Press OK to turn ON or OFF.

Setting Video Quality: Press OK. Use the Up/Down buttons to choose between 2 image quality settings:

– HD: 1280 x 720

– VGA: 640 x 480

Press OK to confirm.

Setting Video Length: Press OK. Use the Up/Down buttons to choose between 5, 10, 30, 60, or 90 seconds. Press OK to confirm. NOTE: Night videos are limited to a maximum of 30 seconds.

Infostrip Active: This determines if an information bar is imprinted on the bottom of images/videos. Use the Up/Down buttons to choose YES (imprint camera name, time, etc.) or NO. Press OK to confirm.

Temperature: Choose the temperature unit to be imprinted on photos. Use the Up/Down buttons to select Fahrenheit or Celsius. Press OK to confirm.

Date & Time: Press OK. Use the Left/Right buttons to move between values (month, day, year, etc.) and the Up/Down buttons to adjust each value. Press OK to lock in selections. After setting, press the Right button to move to the next option.

Camera Name: Press OK. Use the Up/Down and Left/Right buttons to select characters for your camera’s identity (e.g., a name or location). Press OK to confirm the name.

Managed Memory: Press OK. Choose between:

– OVERWRITE OLDEST: The oldest files will be overwritten with new captures when the SD card is full.

– DO NOT OVERWRITE: The camera will stop capturing images once the SD card is full.

Erase All Images: Press OK. Choose YES to erase all images and format the SD card for use in the camera, or NO to keep stored images. Press OK to confirm.

AC Connected: When the camera is connected to an AC power supply, selecting YES will keep the camera on instead of going into a sleep state, which improves camera speed. If no external supply is detected, it will default to NO. Press OK to confirm.

Program Security Code: Press OK. Use the Up/Down and Left/Right buttons to select a 5-digit security code. Press OK to confirm. If you do not want a security code, leave the setting as “00000”.

Factory Reset: Press OK. Choose YES to restore all settings to factory default, or NO to keep custom settings. Press OK to confirm.

Upgrade Firmware: This option displays the current firmware version. You can choose YES to upgrade firmware or NO to keep the current version. This operation should only be performed when prompted by a technician.

Removing the SD Card: Make sure the camera is in the OFF position. Open the camera cover and gently push on the SD card; it will pop out slightly, allowing you to remove it. You can then insert the SD card into a card reader to view images on another device.

In the Field: You can download pictures and videos with the aid of external devices. Use an external player or card reader that is supported by 12V DC or a Mini USB Jack.

At Home (Connecting to a PC):

1. Turn the camera ON and press the MENU button once to change to SETUP Mode.

2. Connect a USB cord (not included) between the camera’s USB port and your PC computer.

3. The computer will recognize the camera as a removable drive.

4. Copy the images and videos from the camera onto your PC. The unit works with Windows XP/Vista/7 or Mac OS X 10.1 or higher.

5. When the USB cable is disconnected, the camera will return to SETUP mode.

The MOULTRIE M-888I has an external power port and is compatible with the following accessories:

Moultrie AC Adapter: Allows you to run the camera with constant power from a standard 110-240VAC electrical outlet. It is recommended to leave internal batteries in the camera as a backup in case of power loss.

Moultrie Camera Power Panel: A solar panel that extends the life of your camera in the field. Place it near the camera with good exposure to the sun. It needs about 4 hours of sunlight to fully power the camera. Internal batteries should be left in the camera during use.

Moultrie Battery Box: A long-lasting, rechargeable external power source to extend the field life of your camera.

NOTE: The use of any other power source will void your warranty and possibly harm your camera.
