For your MOULTRIE M-888, please follow these battery guidelines:

– Only use Alkaline or Lithium batteries. Energizer batteries are recommended.

– Do not mix old and new batteries. Always replace ALL the batteries at the same time.

– When the camera is not in use, please remove the batteries.

The MOULTRIE M-888 camera features several components and controls for operation:

FRONT VIEW:

– Motion Sensor: Detects movement to trigger the camera.

– Infrared LED Flash: Provides illumination for night photos and videos.

– Camera Lens: Captures the image.

– LCD Display: Shows camera status and menu options.

– SD Card Slot: For inserting an SD memory card (up to 32GB, Class 4 or higher).

– Status Indicator: A red LED that lights up when motion is detected in AIM mode.

– Menu Button: Enters the Camera Setup or Main Screen, and wakes the camera from sleep mode.

– OK/Select Button: Confirms selections and can be used to manually take a picture.

– Navigation Buttons (UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT): Used to navigate menus and change settings.

– QUICK START / CUSTOM START / AIM / OFF Switch: Selects the camera’s main operational mode.

– Push Button Release: Ejects the battery compartment tray.

BOTTOM VIEW:

– External Power Port: For connecting external power sources like the Moultrie PowerPanel or AC Adapter.

– USB Port: For connecting the camera to a computer to download pictures and videos.

– Battery Tray: Holds eight (8) AA batteries.

– 1/4″ 20 Mount: For mounting the camera on a tripod or other compatible mount.

Use the following steps to quickly set up your MOULTRIE M-888 using factory default settings:

Step 1: Open the camera cover and press the battery chamber release button. Install eight (8) AA alkaline or lithium batteries, noting the polarities on the Battery Tray. Re-install the tray and insert your SD card. It is recommended to erase the SD card (ERASE IMAGES) in the camera before first use.

Step 2: Insert the SD Memory Card until you hear an audible click. The camera will not operate without an SD Card. Slide the power switch to Quick Start. Press the Left button to set the time and date.

Step 3: Mount the camera in the desired location using a mounting strap. The camera must be attached to a stable object for proper motion detection.

Step 4: Switch the camera to Aim mode to determine the target area. Walk in front of the camera at the desired distance; the camera’s LED will flash to show the covered area. Once aimed, switch the camera back to Quick Start.

Step 5: Close the cover. The camera will now operate using the default settings.

When you select Quick Start mode on your MOULTRIE M-888, the only settings you can change are the Date and Time. The other settings are fixed as follows for rapid setup:

The MOULTRIE M-888 has 3 operating modes, which can be selected using the Up/Down buttons:

1. Motion Detect: Captures a photo or video when motion or heat is detected.

2. Time Lapse: Captures photos at periodic intervals based on the Time Lapse program setting.

3. Motion + Time Lapse: Uses a combination of Time Lapse and Motion Detect modes at different times of the day. The camera operates in Time Lapse mode during programmed intervals and in Motion Detect mode for the remainder of the day.

To customize the Motion Detect mode on your MOULTRIE M-888, access the options menu. The following settings can be configured:

– Detection Delay: Determines the time between pictures when an animal is detected. Options are 0 sec, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, 5 min, 10 min, or 30 min.

– PIR Sensitivity: Controls the trigger distance and sensitivity. HIGH is for more distance and open areas. LOW is for shorter distances and wooded areas to reduce false triggers.

– Multi-Shot: Choose how many pictures are captured per trigger event (1 or 3).

– Photo or Video: Choose to capture a Photo, Video, or Both.

– Reset Options: Allows you to select a predefined configuration for motion detect mode to quickly set up the camera for certain performance levels.

The MOULTRIE M-888 offers the following Multi-Shot settings:

– 1 (OFF): A single photo is taken per trigger event.

– 3 BURST: Three photos are rapidly captured per event, all within one second. Note that Burst mode is only capable of up to 4MP captures, regardless of your resolution setting.

– 3 TRIGGERED: Up to three photos are captured per event with an approximate one-second delay between each capture. Each photo after the first requires an individual trigger, which allows for multiple image captures of the same event while reducing empty images if the subject moves away.

To set up Timelapse mode on your MOULTRIE M-888, you can adjust the following settings:

– Timelapse Interval: Set the time between each photo. Options are 10 or 30 seconds; 1, 5, 10, 15, or 30 minutes; 1, 2, 3, 6, 12 hours or 1 day.

– T.L. Program Start (Wake up): Set the time for the camera to wake up and begin its timelapse program. You can choose any hour from Midnight to 11 PM, or select ALWAYS ON to have the camera operate in timelapse 24 hours/day.

– T.L. Program Stop (Sleep): Set the time for the camera to stop taking timelapse photos. This option appears after the wake-up time is set.

You can set up two different programs (Program #1 and Program #2). Note: If Program #1 is set to ALWAYS ON, the settings for Program #2 will be disabled.

You can customize the information bar (Infostrip) that is imprinted at the bottom of your images and videos. The following options are available:

– Infostrip Active: Choose YES to have information imprinted on the image/video, or NO for no information bar.

– Temperature: Choose to display the temperature in degrees Fahrenheit or Celsius.

– Date & Time: Set the current date and time. Use the Left/Right buttons to move between values and Up/Down buttons to adjust them.

– Camera Name: Assign an identity to your camera, such as a name or location. Use the Up/Down and Left/Right buttons to select characters.

You can adjust the following photo and video settings on your MOULTRIE M-888:

– Setting Photo Quality: Choose between 4 image resolution settings:

– Max Zoom: 4992 x 2808

– High: 3840 x 2160

– Medium: 2688 x 1512

– Low: 1920 x 1080

– Setting Motion Freeze: When ON, the camera adjusts exposure time to reduce motion blur in night photos. When OFF, it uses a maximum exposure time to increase flash range and brightness, which may result in more blur.

– Setting Video Quality: Choose between 2 video quality settings:

– HD: 1280 x 720

– VGA: 640 x 480

– Setting Video Length: Choose from 5 video length settings: 5, 10, 30, 60, or 90 seconds. Note that night videos are limited to a maximum of 30 seconds.

The MOULTRIE M-888 provides the following memory management options:

– Managed Memory: This setting determines what happens when the SD card is full.

– OVERWRITE OLDEST: The oldest files will be overwritten with new captures.

– DO NOT OVERWRITE: The camera will stop capturing new images.

– Erase All Images: This option allows you to delete all images from the SD card. Selecting YES will erase all images and also format the SD card for use in the camera. Selecting NO will not change stored images.

The following System Options can be configured on your MOULTRIE M-888:

– AC Connected: When connected to an AC power supply, selecting this option keeps the camera “on” instead of entering a sleep state, which improves camera speed and performance. If selected without an external supply detected, it will default to NO.

– Program Security Code: Allows you to set a 5-digit security code to protect your camera. Use the Up/Down and Left/Right buttons to select a code. If no code is desired, leave the setting as “00000”.

– Confirm Security Code: After entering a code, the camera prompts you to verify it to prevent accidental setting.

– Factory Reset: You can choose YES to restore all settings to their factory defaults or NO to keep your custom settings.

– Upgrade Firmware: Displays the current firmware version. This option should only be used when prompted by a technician.

There are several ways to view images and videos from your MOULTRIE M-888:

Removing the SD Card:

1. Make sure the camera is in the OFF position.

2. Open the camera cover and gently push on the SD card. It will pop out slightly.

3. Remove the card and insert it into a computer, SD card reader, or external viewer to see the files.

Connecting the Camera to a PC:

1. Turn the camera ON and press the MENU button once to enter SETUP Mode.

2. Connect a USB cable from the camera’s USB port to a PC computer.

3. The computer will recognize the camera as a removable drive, allowing you to copy images and videos to your PC. The unit works with Windows XP/Vista/7 or Mac OS X 10.1 or higher.

In the Field:

You can use an external player or card reader that is supported by 12V DC or a Mini USB Jack to download and view files directly in the field.
