Adjust the driver’s seat only when the vehicle is stopped. Follow these steps to achieve the recommended driving position:

Seat Slide (Forward/Backward):

1. Raise the lever under the front of the seat.

2. Slide the seat to the desired position and release the lever.

3. Attempt to push the seat forward and backward to ensure it is locked in place.

Height Adjustment (Front Edge of Seat Bottom):

Rotate the dial on the side of the seat bottom to adjust the height for the front edge of the seat.

Seat Recline (Seatback Angle):

1. Lean forward slightly while raising the lever on the side of the seat.

2. Lean back to the desired position and release the lever.

3. Attempt to push the seatback forward and backward to ensure it is locked.

After making adjustments, ensure all components are securely locked by attempting to move them.

The seats in your MAZDA MX-5 2021 are electrically heated. To operate the seat warmer, the ignition must be switched ON.

1. Press the seat warmer switch to turn it on. The indicator lights will illuminate to show it is operating.

2. Each press of the switch changes the mode as follows: High → Mid → Low → OFF.

NOTE:

• Use the seat warmer only when the engine is running to avoid depleting the battery.

• If the ignition is switched off while the seat warmer is on, it will automatically resume at the same temperature setting when the ignition is switched ON again.

• The temperature is controlled by a thermostat and cannot be adjusted beyond the High, Mid, and Low settings.

Fastening the Seat Belt:

1. Ensure the seat belt passes through the seat belt guide correctly and is not twisted.

2. Position the lap belt as low as possible over your hips, not on your abdominal area.

3. Insert the seat belt tongue into the buckle until you hear a click.

4. Adjust the shoulder belt so that it fits snugly against your body and take up any slack.

Unfastening the Seat Belt:

1. Depress the button on the seat belt buckle.

2. The belt will retract automatically. If it does not retract fully, pull it out and check for kinks or twists, then ensure it remains untwisted as it retracts.

To install a child-restraint system in the passenger seat of your MAZDA MX-5 2021, follow these steps:

1. Make sure the ignition is switched off.

2. Slide the passenger seat as far back as possible.

3. Place the child-restraint system on the seat without putting your weight on it.

4. Secure the child-restraint system with the lap portion of the lap/shoulder belt, following the manufacturer’s instructions for belt routing.

5. To engage the automatic locking mode, pull the shoulder portion of the seat belt until the entire length is out of the retractor.

8. Switch the ignition ON and make sure the passenger air bag deactivation indicator light illuminates. If it does not, the passenger air bag system may not be deactivated. In this case, remove the child-restraint system, switch the ignition OFF, and then re-install it.

NOTE: Before each use, inspect this function. You should not be able to pull the shoulder belt out of the retractor when it’s in automatic locking mode.

Removing the auxiliary key:

1. Press the knob on the back of the key fob in the direction of the arrow.

2. While holding the knob, remove the lower cover.

3. Pull out the auxiliary key.

Installing the auxiliary key:

1. Insert the auxiliary key back into its slot in the key fob.

2. Insert the tabs of the lower cover into the slots of the transmitter and press the cover back into place until it clicks.

The keyless entry system on your MAZDA MX-5 2021 uses buttons on the key to remotely control the locks.

Lock Button:

• Press the lock button to lock both doors and the fuel-filler lid. The hazard warning lights will flash once.

• With the advanced keyless function, a beep sound will be heard once.

• To confirm the doors are locked, press the lock button again within 5 seconds. If they are locked, the horn will sound.

Unlock Button:

• Press the unlock button once to unlock the driver’s door and the fuel-filler lid. The hazard warning lights will flash twice.

• To unlock both doors, press the unlock button again within 3 seconds. Two more beep sounds will be heard (with advanced keyless function).

Auto Re-lock Function:

If you unlock the doors with the key but do not open a door within about 60 seconds, the doors and fuel-filler lid will automatically re-lock.

Trunk Button:

To open the trunk lid, press and hold the trunk button on the key until the trunk lid opens.

Panic Button:

If you witness someone attempting to break into or damage your vehicle, you can activate the alarm.

• Turning on the alarm: Press and hold the panic button for 1 second or more. The horn will sound intermittently and the hazard warning lights will flash for about 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

• Turning off the alarm: The alarm can be stopped by pressing any button on the key.

With the advanced keyless function, you can lock and unlock the doors of your MAZDA MX-5 2021 by pressing the request switch on the door handles while carrying the key.

To Lock:

Press the request switch on either door handle. Both doors and the fuel-filler lid will lock. A beep will sound once, and the hazard warning lights will flash once.

To Unlock:

• Driver’s door request switch: Press the switch once to unlock the driver’s door and fuel-filler lid. A beep will sound twice, and the hazard lights will flash twice. To unlock the passenger door as well, press the switch again within 3 seconds.

• Front passenger door request switch: Press the switch to unlock both doors and the fuel-filler lid. A beep will sound twice, and the hazard lights will flash twice.

This system can be customized to unlock all doors with a single press of the driver’s request switch.

You can open the trunk lid of your MAZDA MX-5 2021 using several methods:

Using the remote release button inside the vehicle:

Push the release button located on the dashboard to the left of the steering wheel.

Using the electric trunk lid opener (with advanced keyless function):

While carrying the key, press the electric trunk lid opener button located on the trunk lid itself. Raise the trunk lid when the latch releases.

Using the key fob:

Press and hold the trunk button on the key until the trunk lid opens.

Closing the trunk lid:

Use both hands to push the trunk lid down until the lock snaps shut. Do not slam it. Pull up on the lid to ensure it is securely closed.

Always operate the convertible top while the MAZDA MX-5 2021 is parked in a safe place on a level surface.

Lowering the Convertible Top:

1. Ensure the parking brake is applied and the engine is off.

2. Clear any objects from the convertible top storage area.

4. Ensure the striker engages with the anchor, then move the top latch slowly and push it upward until a latch sound is heard and the red indicator on the lock release button is no longer visible.

The retractable hardtop on your MAZDA MX-5 2021 operates electrically. The following conditions must be met for operation:

• The ignition is switched ON.

• The vehicle speed is 10 km/h (6.2 mph) or less.

• The trunk lid is closed.

Opening the Roof:

1. Park the vehicle on level ground and apply the parking brake.

2. Make sure the trunk is closed and start the engine to prevent battery drain.

3. Press and hold the retractable hardtop switch (located on the center console) in the open direction.

4. Continue pressing the switch until the roof opening operation is complete. A beep will sound, and the operation indicator light will turn off.

Closing the Roof:

2. Make sure the trunk is closed and start the engine.

3. Press and hold the retractable hardtop switch in the close direction.

4. Continue pressing the switch until the roof closing operation is complete. A beep will sound, and the operation indicator light will turn off.

5. Close the windows using the power window switches.

1. Ensure you are carrying the key inside the vehicle.

2. Fasten your seat belt.

3. Make sure the parking brake is on.

4. For Manual Transmission: Continue to press the clutch pedal firmly until the engine has completely started.

5. For Automatic Transmission: Ensure the selector lever is in Park (P) or Neutral (N). Continue to press the brake pedal firmly until the engine has completely started.

6. Verify that the KEY indicator light (green) in the instrument cluster illuminates.

7. Press the push button start. The engine will start.

8. After starting, let the engine idle for about ten seconds before driving.

If the key battery for your MAZDA MX-5 2021 is dead, you can start the engine using the following emergency procedure:

1. For Automatic Transmission: Continue to depress the brake pedal firmly.

2. For Manual Transmission: Continue to depress the clutch pedal firmly.

3. Make sure that the push button start indication light (green) is flashing.

4. While the indicator light is flashing, touch the center of the emblem on the key fob to the center of the push button start.

Downshifting:

When you need to slow down in heavy traffic or on a steep upgrade, downshift before the engine starts to overwork. On a steep downgrade, downshifting helps maintain a safe speed and prolongs brake life.

The manual shift mode on your MAZDA MX-5 2021 allows you to shift gears manually.

1. To enter manual shift mode: Shift the selector lever from D (Drive) to M (Manual).

2. To shift up: Tap the selector lever back (+) once. You can also pull the UP switch (+/OFF) on the steering wheel toward you.

3. To shift down: Tap the selector lever forward (−) once. You can also pull the DOWN switch (−) on the steering wheel toward you.

4. To return to automatic shift mode: Shift the selector lever from M back to D.

• OFF: All lights are off.

• AUTO (if equipped): The light sensor automatically turns the headlights and other exterior lights on or off based on surrounding brightness.

• Parking Lights: Turns on the taillights, parking lights, license plate lights, and side-marker lights.

• Headlights On: Turns on the headlights and all lights listed under Parking Lights.

High and Low Beams:

• With the headlights on, push the lever forward for high beams.

• Pull the lever backward for low beams.

Flashing the Headlights:

Pull the lever fully towards you. The high beams will flash and the high-beam indicator light will illuminate. The lever will return to the normal position when released.

The windshield wiper and washer lever is located on the right side of the steering column. The ignition must be switched ON.

Wiper Operation:

Move the lever up or down to select the desired speed:

• MIST: Single wipe. Lever returns to OFF when released.

• OFF: Wipers are off.

• AUTO (if equipped): The rain sensor automatically controls wiper operation based on the amount of rainfall.

• INT (if not equipped with AUTO): Intermittent wipe. You can adjust the interval timing by rotating the ring on the lever.

• LO: Low speed continuous wipe.

• HI: High speed continuous wipe.

Washer Operation:

Pull the lever toward you and hold it to spray washer fluid on the windshield. The wipers will operate a few times.

You can set the cruise control in your MAZDA MX-5 2021 for speeds of more than about 25 km/h (16 mph).

1. Press the ON switch on the steering wheel to activate the system. The cruise main indication (white) will appear in the instrument cluster.

2. Accelerate to your desired cruising speed.

3. Press the SET/- switch. The cruise control will be set at that moment. The cruise set indication (green) will turn on.

4. Release the accelerator pedal.

To Adjust Speed:

• To Increase Speed: Press and hold the RESUME/+ switch. Release at the desired speed.

• To Decrease Speed: Press and hold the SET/- switch. Release at the desired speed.

To Temporarily Cancel:

Do one of the following:

• Slightly depress the brake pedal.

• (Manual transmission) Depress the clutch pedal.

• Press the OFF/CANCEL switch.

To Resume:

If the vehicle speed is 25 km/h (16 mph) or higher, press the RESUME/+ switch. The vehicle will return to the last set speed.

To Deactivate:

Press the OFF/CANCEL switch. The cruise main indication will turn off.

If you have a flat tire in your MAZDA MX-5 2021, use the emergency repair kit for a temporary fix. This kit includes a sealant bottle and an air compressor.

1. Park in a safe, level location away from traffic and apply the parking brake.

2. Remove the emergency flat tire repair kit from the trunk.

3. Shake the sealant bottle to mix the contents.

4. Connect the air compressor hose to the injection valve on the sealant bottle.

5. Remove the valve cap from the flat tire and screw the bottle’s injection hose onto the tire valve.

6. Install the sealant bottle onto the air compressor until the tabs engage.

7. Plug the air compressor into the vehicle’s accessory socket and switch the ignition to ACC.

8. Turn on the air compressor. The sealant will be injected into the tire, followed by air.

9. Inflate the tire to the pressure specified on the driver’s door frame label. Do not operate the compressor for more than 10 minutes continuously.

10. Once the correct pressure is reached, turn off the compressor, disconnect the hoses, and replace the valve cap.

11. Immediately drive the vehicle for about 10 minutes or 5 km (3 miles) at 80 km/h (50 mph) or less to spread the sealant inside the tire.

12. Stop and recheck the tire pressure. If it has dropped below 130 kPa (18.9 psi), the tire is too damaged to repair. If the pressure is stable, adjust it to the correct specification and drive carefully to the nearest authorized dealer for a permanent repair or replacement.

To safely jump-start your MAZDA MX-5 2021, you will need a booster vehicle with a 12V battery and a set of jumper cables.

1. Position the booster vehicle close to your vehicle so the cables can reach, but do not let the vehicles touch.

2. Turn off the engines of both vehicles and all electrical accessories.

3. Remove the battery cover from your vehicle’s battery.

4. Connect the jumper cables in the following specific order:

1st lead: Connect one end of the first jumper cable (usually red) to the positive (+) terminal of your discharged battery.

1st lead: Connect the other end of the red cable to the positive (+) terminal of the booster battery.

2nd lead: Connect one end of the second jumper cable (usually black) to the negative (-) terminal of the booster battery.

2nd lead: Connect the other end of the black cable to a solid, unpainted metal ground point on your vehicle’s engine, away from the battery and fuel system.

5. Start the engine of the booster vehicle and let it run for a few minutes.

6. Start the engine of your vehicle.

7. Once your engine is running, disconnect the jumper cables in the exact reverse order of connection.

8. Reinstall the battery cover.

Have your vehicle inspected by an Authorized Mazda Dealer as soon as possible.

If the temperature gauge indicates overheating, the high engine coolant temperature warning light turns on, or you notice a loss of power or hear loud knocking, your engine may be overheating. Follow these steps:

1. Safely pull over to the side of the road and park.

2. Put the vehicle in Park (P) or Neutral and apply the parking brake.

3. Turn off the air conditioner.

4. Check if steam or coolant is escaping from the engine compartment.

• If steam is coming from the engine compartment: Do not go near the front of the vehicle. Stop the engine immediately. Wait until the steam dissipates before opening the hood.

• If there is no steam or coolant escaping: Leave the engine running at idle and open the hood to allow it to cool down. Make sure the cooling fan is operating.

5. Once the engine temperature has decreased, turn off the engine.

6. When the engine is completely cool, check the coolant level in the reservoir. If it is low, look for leaks from the radiator and hoses.

7. If there are no obvious leaks, add coolant as required. If leaks are found or if the engine continues to overheat, stop the engine and have your vehicle towed to an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

Manually closing the roof is an emergency measure and requires two adults. After performing this procedure, have the system restored by an Authorized Mazda Dealer.

Tool Preparation:

Take out the five tools stored in the seat side box: Wire, Gear (tool kit), Rope, L-shaped hexagonal wrench (Small), and L-shaped hexagonal wrench (Large).

Opening the Rear Roof:

1. Move seats forward and fold seatbacks.

2. Insert the short end of the large hexagonal wrench into the motor bracket bolt behind the driver’s seat.

3. Turn the wrench counterclockwise to slightly loosen the bolt.

4. Switch to the long end of the wrench and turn it counterclockwise 13 or more times while pressing against the bolt to release the lock mechanism.

5. Hook the provided wire to the link pin and pull until the rear roof unlocks. Repeat on the other side.

6. With one person on each side, lift the rear roof until it stops.

Closing the Front Roof:

1. From both sides, pull the front roof upward and then forward, stopping just before it fully closes.

2. Remove the link covers and the headliner fasteners to remove the headliner.

3. Lightly press the front edge of the roof to close it completely.

4. Use the small hexagonal wrench and gear tool to manually engage the top lock motor gear, locking the front roof.

5. Re-install the headliner and link covers.

Closing the Rear Roof:

1. Hook the rope to the link pin on each side.

2. With one person on each side, slowly and uniformly close the rear roof.

3. While one person pushes the roof down, the other pulls the rope straight back until it clicks and locks.

4. Tie the ropes to the trunk hinges to secure the roof.

Drive at 40 km/h (24 mph) or lower and have the vehicle inspected as soon as possible.
