Before installing the LYTX SURFSIGHT AI-14 dashcam, please take the following steps:

1. Turn on the vehicle and confirm no Check Engine lights, error codes, or warnings are present on any displays. Cycle through messages if needed.

2. Inspect the windshield for cracks or chips. Get client/end-user confirmation before proceeding if damage exists.

3. Check the vehicle’s exterior for damage and report any findings before starting.

4. Inspect the vehicle’s interior for damage and hygiene issues. Report issues before starting work.

5. If any warnings appear, identify and resolve the issue before installation.

6. For OBD-II connections, ensure no other third-party devices are connected to the OBD-II port before proceeding.

7. Report any faults or damage to the site contact and/or partner/manager before continuing.

You will find the following items in the LYTX SURFSIGHT AI-14 Dashcam box:

• The AI-14 dashcam, with the pre-installed SIM and Micro-SD cards

• The mounting bracket

• A QR code to access the installation instructions

• A T6 Torx Wrench

• Alcohol wipes

• The notification window sticker

Additional Items Not Included in the Kit:

The following items are necessary for the installation and operation of your AI-14 dashcam but are ordered separately:

• AI-14 Standard Power Cable (Hardwire): A standard power cable for hardwiring the dashcam to your vehicle’s power source.

• OBD II, Power Only Y-cable, AI-14: Used for connecting the dashcam to your vehicle’s On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) port while keeping the port accessible.

• IOX, AI-14 IOX: Cable used to connect from a Geotab Go device USB port to the AI-14 Molex connector.

Your LYTX SURFSIGHT AI-14 Dashcam kit includes either a Standard Mounting Bracket or a Universal Mounting Bracket. To determine your bracket type, examine the mounting bracket included in your box:

• Standard Mounting Bracket: The dashcam slides into this mounting bracket from the right side and locks into place with two locating tabs.

• Universal Mounting Bracket: The dashcam slides into this mounting bracket vertically and uses two Torx T6 screws to secure it in place.

To install your LYTX SURFSIGHT AI-14 Dashcam with the standard mounting bracket, slide the unit into the standard mounting bracket from the right side and until it locks into place with two locating tabs.

Select and Prepare the Standard Mounting Bracket Location:

1. Choose a windshield location that does not obstruct your view, vehicle controls, or the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).

2. Temporarily position the dashcam to confirm clear views, then mark the spot.

3. Clean the marked area thoroughly with the alcohol wipe and let it dry completely.

Attach the Standard Mount:

1. Peel off the adhesive cover.

2. Carefully align the mounting bracket with your marked spot and apply even pressure, rolling it onto the windshield from top to bottom.

3. Smooth out any large air bubbles by applying more pressure. If necessary, use a small pin to release trapped air.

4. Allow the mounting bracket to cure for at least 10 minutes before attaching the dashcam.

Secure and Verify the Dashcam:

1. Power off the dashcam.

2. Slide the AI-14 Dashcam body into the mounting bracket from the right until it clicks into place.

3. Power on the dashcam, access “Live View,” and verify clear in-cabin and road lens views.

4. Secure the Torx T6 where the mounting bracket meets the dashcam body to lock the views. Do not overtighten. The T6 has a torque specification of 0.8 Nm.

To install your LYTX SURFSIGHT AI-14 Dashcam with the universal mounting bracket, insert the unit vertically and secure it via two locating tabs and two Torx T6 screws.

Prepare and Attach the Universal Mounting Bracket:

1. Release the AI-14 Universal Windshield mounting as follows:

2. Unscrew the two T6 mount screws to free the windshield mount

3. Press in the two locking tabs.

4. Slide the AI-14 body and mounting foot down from the windshield mount.

5. Choose a windshield location that avoids obstructing your view, vehicle controls, or the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS).

6. Clean the marked area thoroughly with an alcohol wipe and let it dry.

7. Remove the adhesive cover. Align the mounting bracket and apply pressure with a plastic trim tool, rolling it onto the windshield. Smooth out any air bubbles.

8. Allow the mounting bracket to cure for at least 10 minutes before proceeding.

Secure and Verify the Dashcam:

1. Power off your AI-14 Dashcam.

2. Slide the dashcam body upwards into the universal mounting bracket until the locating tabs click.

3. Tighten both the left and right Torx T6 screws (0.8 Nm torque specification) to secure the dashcam.

4. Power on the AI-14, access “Live View,” and confirm clear in-cabin and road lens views.

5. Secure the Torx T6 where the mounting bracket meets the dashcam body to lock the views. Do not overtighten.

Connect the dashcam to the following:

• Constant 12V or 24V minimum 2A power source

• Vehicle ignition-switched power source providing at least 1A

• Vehicle ground/earth point

Use a red wire (VBATT & Fused) to connect to constant power via a 2 Amp fuse, and a brown wire (IGNITION & Fused) to connect to ignition power via a 1 Amp fuse.

To hardwire the dashcam:

1. Locate the vehicle fuse box. Always refer to the vehicle manufacturer’s service manual for proper installation.

2. Use a multimeter to test which fuse is constant. To identify a constant power fuse, test it with the vehicle doors in various states: open, closed, and locked.

3. Use a multimeter to test which fuse is Ignition power. This type of fuse stays powered from the moment the ignition is turned on, through cranking, and while the engine runs.

4. Locate a vehicle ground point and connect the ground wire to it. Ensure the metal contact areas are clean for a good connection. Terminate the ground wire with a self-sealing crimp ring terminal (not included). A loose ground wire can result in power issues.

5. Make sure the Molex plug is positioned so you can access it after the installation is complete for easy servicing.

6. Keep wiring cables away from sharp edges and moving parts. Avoid routing them where they could get pinched in door jambs.

7. Use cable ties at least every foot (approximately 30 centimeters) to secure cables. Ensure cables traverse BEHIND any airbags, not over them.

8. Carefully route the power cable to avoid any SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) components.

9. Start your vehicle to test the dashcam.

To enable all features of the LYTX SURFSIGHT AI-14 dashcam, including Standby mode, it requires a constant 12V or 24V power supply with at least 2A. Connecting to the vehicle’s OBDII port is one way to achieve this.

1. Locate the on board diagnostic port. The port is usually found in the driver area, at or below knee level.

2. Align the connector end of the OBDII cable with the engine diagnostic port. Connectors can vary by vehicle. If a different one is needed, contact your authorized reseller.

3. Push the connector into the port. Verify the OBDII cable is securely connected.

4. Connect the OBDII cable to the dashcam.

5. Start your vehicle to test the dashcam.

6. After testing, run the power cable along the headliner of the vehicle, starting from the A-pillar and going towards the power source. Ensure the Molex plug is positioned for easy access after installation.

Adjust the viewing angles for both the front and interior views together. Separate lens adjustments are not supported.

1. Ensure your vehicle is parked, with the parking brake on, the ignition on, and the door closed.

2. Use the Torx wrench to loosen the Torx T6 screw where the mounting bracket meets the dashcam body.

3. Press the touchscreen of the dashcam to view the PIN screen.

4. Enter the default PIN 3333 to unlock the dashcam for the first time, or your own PIN subsequently.

5. Press Live View. Use the arrow keys to toggle between the road-facing and in-cab views.

6. Position the dashcam and bracket on the windshield to check the view, without peeling off the mounting tape. Place it as high as possible. The dashcam must be installed at least 1.6 meters (63 inches) above the ground for road-facing ADAS.

7. Ensure that:

• There is a clear view of the driver’s upper body.

• There is a clear view of the road.

• The dashcam doesn’t obstruct the driver’s field of vision.

• The dashcam is in the vehicle’s wiper path so the road-facing lens is not obstructed by rain or snow.

• Nothing in the cab blocks the in-cab lens, such as sun visors, blinds, or mirrors.

8. Tighten the screw where the mounting bracket meets the dashcam when finished. Once the screw is tightened, the two lenses are locked into place.

9. Mark the edges of the bracket on the windshield with non-permanent marker.

1. When choosing a dashcam location, make sure you can easily reach and operate all nearby vehicle controls and equipment. Leave 12.5 cm (4.9 in) to the right of the dashcam to allow room to insert it into the mounting bracket.

2. Power on the dashcam and confirm you can access live views.

3. Position the dashcam and then inspect the view for any obstructions. Make sure you can take it off the mount.

4. Mark the windshield for mount placement.

5. Wipe the area of the windshield where you plan to place the dashcam with an alcohol wipe and allow it to air dry.

6. Remove the adhesive cover from the mount. The adhesive is very sticky, creating a strong initial bond that makes removal difficult.

7. Hold the mount by its edges in the exact position and orientation you want it to stick to the windshield.

8. Apply even pressure as you roll the mount onto the windshield, starting from the top edge and moving downwards.

9. Visually inspect the adhesive area from the outside for any trapped air bubbles. If large air bubbles remain, carefully apply additional pressure to the bracket to remove them. If they persist, gently use a small pin to create a tiny escape path for the air.

10. Secure the mount to the windshield and adhere to the designated curing time of ten (10) minutes.

11. Power off the dashcam.

12. After safely disconnecting the power cable, carefully route the dashcam’s power cable towards its connection point with the vehicle’s power system.

13. Connect the dashcam’s Molex connector to the power cable’s Molex connector and confirm that they are securely linked.

14. Attach the dashcam to the bracket. Allow 10 minutes before applying any weight or sliding the AI-14 onto the mounted bracket.

15. Detach the dashcam from the mounting bracket. Recheck the live view, and then tighten all the required screws.

16. Make sure the dashcam is securely positioned on the windshield mount.

To enable road-facing Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), you need a few measurements recorded in centimeters or inches:

• The dashcam height from the ground.

• The width of the front axle from the outer edges of each tire.

• The dashcam offset from the center of the windshield, measured from inside the cabin (road-facing view):

– When the dashcam is to the right of the center of the windshield – enter a negative measurement.

– When the dashcam is to the left of the center of the windshield – enter a positive measurement.

To enter measurements on the touchscreen:

1. Enter the default PIN 3333 to unlock the dashcam.

2. Select Settings.

3. Scroll down the settings menu and validate settings like speed units (km/h or mph) and Driver Position (Left or right).

4. Scroll back up to ADAS- Not calibrated and tap ‘Start Configuration’.

5. (Step 1 of 5) A message will appear explaining that measurements are needed. Tap Next.

6. (Step 2 of 5) Enter the measurement of the camera height from the ground. Tap Next.

7. (Step 3 of 5) Enter the rear axle width from the outer edges of each tire. Tap Next.

8. (Step 4 of 5) Enter the camera offset from the center of the windshield using the arrow keys. The left arrow is for negative units, and the right arrow is for positive units. Tap Next.

9. (Step 5 of 5) Review your input. Tap Save.

Your settings will be saved, and the camera will begin auto-calibration as it operates normally while driving.

Once the dashcam is installed and mounted, take the following steps:

Final Checks and Functionality:

1. Secure all cabling and reinstall any removed panels correctly.

2. With the vehicle on, verify the dashcam’s live view to ensure it’s operational.

3. Test the functionality of lights, power windows, radio, and climate control (A/C and heat).

4. Confirm that the unit has both a cellular connection and GPS by checking the “more info” screen in the settings menu.

5. Check other critical vehicle functions.

Take Photographs of the following:

1. Dashcam mounted position on the windshield (with sun visor open and closed).

2. Live view on the dashcam touchscreen for both road-facing and in-cab lenses.

3. Constant power connection point and fusing used.

4. Ground connection point.

5. Overall installation and cable routing

Vehicle and Device Information:

1. Record the IMEI, Vehicle Registration, VIN, and ADAS measurements.

2. Check the inside and outside of the car for any existing damage or lack of cleanliness and report it before starting the installation.

OBD-II Connection (If Applicable):

Ensure the OBD-II port is clear and no other devices are connected.

Final Steps:

1. Turn on the car before concluding to confirm no warning lights appear.

2. Investigate and resolve any warning lights and inform the client and supplier of any issues.

3. Return the keys.

Take the following steps to uninstall the LYTX SURFSIGHT AI-14:

1. Carry out best practice pre-vehicle checks.

2. Check the unit is operational and wakes up.

3. Connects to GSM and GPS.

4. Enter the PIN.

5. Scroll to the More information Screen and select.

6. Take an image.

7. Return to the settings menu.

8. Scroll to power off, select power off and disconnect the power from the AI-14.

9. ENSURE that AI-14 STAYS POWERED OFF to keep the internal BBU from discharging.

10. Remove cabling or make safe (partner dependent.)

11. Remove the mounting bracket.

12. Box up unit and wiring, mark box with Vehicle information.

13. Carry out best practice post-vehicle checks.

14. Hand the deinstalled equipment and vehicle keys to client/site contact.
