Your LOREX N862A64B security recorder package includes the following components:

• 4K Ultra HD Security NVR

• Power Adapter

• Ethernet Cable

• USB Mouse

• HDMI Cable

Note: Hard drive size, number of channels, and camera configuration may vary by model. Please refer to your specific package details.

The front panel of your LOREX N862A64B has several indicators and buttons:

1. LED Indicators:

• HDD: Glows to indicate the hard drive is operating properly. It turns off if there is a hard drive error.

• NET: Glows to indicate the recorder is connected to the Internet for remote access and automatic firmware updates. It turns off when there is no Internet access.

• REC: Glows to indicate that the system is currently recording.

• PWR: Glows to indicate the system is on.

2. Info / Panic Button:

• From live view, press once to open the System Information screen.

• Press and hold for 3 seconds to activate the warning lights and sirens on all connected deterrence cameras.

3. USB Port: Connect a USB mouse (included) to control the system, or a USB flash drive (not included) for data backup or manual firmware updates.

4. Power Button: Press and hold to turn the system on or shut down. The power switch on the back of the unit must be turned on to use the front panel power button.

The back panel of your LOREX N862A64B features the following ports:

1. Power Input: Connect the included AC power cable.

2. Power Switch: Press to power the system on / off.

3. PoE Video Inputs: Connect Lorex IP cameras to the system.

• Connect an external microphone to the AUDIO IN port for single-channel audio recording.

8. LAN: Connect the included RJ45 Ethernet cable from the recorder to your router for remote connectivity and automatic firmware updates.

9. USB Port: Connect a USB mouse (included) to control the system, or a USB flash drive (not included) for data backup or manual firmware updates.

10. HDMI: Connect to an HDMI monitor or TV (not included) using the included HDMI cable to view the system interface.

Follow these steps for the basic setup of your LOREX N862A64B:

STEP 1: Connect cameras

Test your cameras before permanent installation by temporarily connecting them to the recorder using the provided RJ45 Ethernet extension cables. You can connect them directly to the NVR or to your local network via a PoE switch.

STEP 2: Connect router

Connect the recorder to your router using the included Ethernet cable. A high-speed internet connection is required for automatic firmware updates and remote viewing.

STEP 3: Connect mouse

Connect the included mouse to a USB port on the recorder.

STEP 4: Connect monitor

Connect the recorder to a monitor using the included HDMI cable (supports up to 4K resolution) or a VGA cable (not included, supports up to 1080p).

STEP 5: Connect power

Use the included power adapter to connect the recorder to a nearby outlet.

STEP 6: Upgrade Firmware to Latest Version (If Available)

If a firmware upgrade is available upon startup, a notification will appear. Click OK to upgrade. Enter the system user name (default: admin) and your secure password, then click OK. The system will restart once the upgrade is complete. Do not power off the system during the firmware installation.

To quickly open a window that displays important system information like model number, serial number, and device ID on your LOREX N862A64B, you can do one of the following:

• From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Info.

OR

• Press the front panel button on the recorder. Do not press and hold the button, as this activates the panic button feature.

For flexible installations, you can connect IP cameras to the same Local Area Network (LAN) as your LOREX N862A64B instead of directly to it. You will need an external PoE switch or a power adapter for each camera.

Connecting using a PoE switch:

1. Connect an Ethernet cable from the LAN port on an external PoE switch to your router. Connect the power cable to the PoE switch.

2. Connect the IP cameras to the PoE switch using Ethernet extension cables. The PoE switch will provide power and video transmission.

Connecting using power adapters:

1. Connect each camera to a compatible power adapter.

2. Connect the camera to your router using a CAT5e or higher Ethernet cable.

Adding the cameras to your NVR:

1. Right-click and select Device Search.

2. Click Device Search. The system will search the network for compatible cameras.

3. Check the camera(s) you would like to add.

4. Click Add. The Status indicator will turn green to show the camera is successfully connected.

Before permanently mounting cameras for your LOREX N862A64B, consider these tips:

• Test cameras before permanent installation and plan your wiring routes.

• Point the camera where there are the least obstructions (e.g., tree branches).

• Mount the camera where the lens is away from direct and intense sunlight.

• Secure cabling so that it is not exposed or easily cut.

• Mount the camera in an area that is visible but out of reach.

• Avoid pointing the camera at a glass window to see outside, as this may cause reflection from night vision LEDs.

• Adjust the camera angle to cover an area with high traffic.

• In “high-risk” locations, use multiple cameras pointing at the same area for redundancy.

• For outdoor-rated cameras, installation in a sheltered location is recommended to keep the lens clear of precipitation.

The mouse is the primary control device for your LOREX N862A64B. Connect it to a USB port on the front or rear panel. The functions are as follows:

• Left-button:

– In live view split-screen mode, click an individual channel to view it in full-screen. Click again to return to split-screen.

– While navigating menus, click to open a menu option.

• Right-button:

– During live view, right-click anywhere on the screen to open the Quick Menu.

– Within system menus, right-click to exit menus.

• Scroll wheel: In live view, use the scroll wheel to zoom in/out.

To set the date and time on your LOREX N862A64B:

1. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Main Menu.

2. Click SYSTEM. Click the General tab on the side panel, then click Date & Time on the top panel.

3. Under System Time, enter the current time and select your time zone. Then, click OK.

4. Check the DST check box to enable auto Daylight Savings Time updates if needed. You can adjust the start and end times if the defaults don’t match your region.

5. (Optional) Check the NTP check box to sync your system with an Internet time server. Click Manual Update to instantly update the time. Your system must be connected to the Internet for this feature.

6. Click Apply to save changes.

Right-clicking anywhere on the Live View screen opens the Quick Menu on your LOREX N862A64B, which provides access to the following functions:

• Main Menu: Select for full access to the Main Menu.

• Playback: Opens the Playback Menu to search for video recordings.

• Pan/Tilt/Zoom: Control and configure settings for PTZ cameras.

• Viewing Modes: Select how many channels are shown on screen (View 1, 4, 8, 9, 16).

To adjust the image settings for your cameras on the LOREX N862A64B:

1. Right-click on the channel you would like to configure and select Camera Setting.

2. Configure the following settings as needed (availability depends on the camera model):

• Config File: Select from image setting presets.

• Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, Sharpness, Gamma: Adjust the respective image levels.

3. Click OK to save changes. It is recommended to adjust one setting at a time to see the results of each change.

To configure a custom recording schedule on your LOREX N862A64B:

1. From the Live View, right-click and select Main Menu.

2. Click STORAGE, then click the Schedule tab.

3. Under Channel, select the channel you wish to configure, or select All.

4. Configure the schedule as needed:

• Click-and-drag on each day’s grid to customize the recording schedule. Each block represents one hour.

• Click the icon beside 2 or more days to link schedules for quick editing.

• Click the gear icon for fine adjustments to set exact start and end times.

• Click the trashcan icon to disable all recording of a selected type on a selected day.

5. Click Apply.

By default, the LOREX N862A64B will overwrite the oldest recordings when the hard drive is full. To change this setting:

1. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Main Menu.

2. Click STORAGE, then click the Basic tab on the side panel.

3. Ensure HDD Full is set to Overwrite to overwrite the oldest recordings. Alternatively, select Stop Record for the system to stop recording when the hard drive is full.

4. Click Apply.

To play back recorded video from the hard drive on your LOREX N862A64B:

1. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Playback.

2. Use the calendar on the right to select the day to playback.

3. Check the channels you want to play back. Click the ‘M’ (Main Stream) or ‘S’ (Sub Stream) icons to the right of each channel name to choose the video quality.

4. Click inside the video bar at the bottom to select the playback time. Playback will begin automatically.

You can use the playback controls at the bottom of the screen to play, pause, stop, change speed, and use other features like digital zoom and area search.

It is recommended to format your USB flash drive before using it with the system. Formatting will permanently erase all data.

1. Connect a USB flash drive to a free USB port on the LOREX N862A64B.

2. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Main Menu.

3. Click BACKUP.

4. Click Browse to locate the USB drive you want to format.

5. Select the correct drive, then click Format.

6. Select a format mode:

• FAT32: Recommended for greatest compatibility with other devices.

• NTFS: Advanced users only, for drives larger than 32GB where file sizes will exceed 4GB.

7. Click OK.

To set preferences for motion detection on your LOREX N862A64B:

1. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Main Menu.

2. Click EVENTS, then click Event Settings. In the drop-down, click Motion.

3. Select a channel to configure.

4. Check to enable Enable MD (Motion Detection).

5. Click Set next to Region to configure which areas of the image will be enabled for motion detection. A grid will appear. Click or click-and-drag to add/remove boxes from the active area. Right-click when finished.

6. Click Set next to Schedule to choose which days and times to enable motion detection.

7. Choose how the system will react when motion is detected (e.g., Show Message, Send Email, Record Channel, Buzzer).

8. Click Apply.

Your LOREX N862A64B has multiple options for manually activating deterrence features on compatible cameras.

To activate features on a single camera:

• Hover the mouse pointer near the top of the camera image in Live View to reveal the Camera Toolbar. Click the light bulb icon to activate the warning light, or the siren icon to activate the siren.

• Activate deterrence features using the Lorex Home app.

To activate deterrence features on all connected cameras:

• Push and hold the front panel panic button on the recorder for 3 seconds.

• From the Live View display, click the siren icon on the Navigation Bar.

To use Smart Search to filter recorded video for person or vehicle detection events on your LOREX N862A64B:

1. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Main Menu.

2. Click EVENTS. Click the Smart Search tab, then in the drop-down click Smart Motion.

3. Select a channel to search, or select All.

4. Enter a start and end time for your search.

5. Next to Event Type, select Person, Vehicle, or All.

6. Click Search.

Events that match your criteria will be displayed. You can click a thumbnail to preview the event.

To change the password for the admin or user accounts on your LOREX N862A64B:

1. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Main Menu.

2. Click ACCOUNT, then click the User tab on the side panel.

3. Click the pencil icon next to the account you want to change the password for.

4. Configure the following:

• Modify Password: Check to modify password.

• Old Password: Enter the current password.

• New Password: Enter the new password. Passwords must be a minimum of 8 characters and include at least 2 of the following types: lowercase, uppercase, numeric, and special characters.

• Confirm Password: Re-enter the new password.

5. Click OK.

Formatting the hard drive erases all data and cannot be undone. You must format a new hard drive before you can record to it.

1. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Main Menu.

2. Click STORAGE, then click the HDD Manager tab on the side panel.

3. Select the hard drive you would like to format.

4. Click Format, then click Yes to confirm.

To enable audio recording for compatible Lorex HD audio cameras or an external microphone connected to your LOREX N862A64B:

1. From the Live View display, right-click to open the Quick Menu, then click Main Menu.

2. Click CAMERA, then click the Recording tab on the side panel.

3. Select the channel where the audio camera is connected.

4. Select the type of recording to enable audio for (Continuous and/or MD (Motion Detection)).

5. Click on More Setting under either Main Stream or Sub Stream to configure the following:

• Audio Encode: Check the box to enable.

• Audio Format: Select an audio codec (G711a or AAC recommended). AAC is required for voice commands.

• Audio Source: Remains as NORMAL setting.

• Audio Sampling: Select an audio sampling rate (8000 recommended).

6. Click OK, then click Apply.

To remove the hard drive from your LOREX N862A64B, first ensure the system is OFF and the power adapter is disconnected.

1. Power off the system and unplug all cabling.

2. Turn the recorder over and remove the 6 bottom panel screws.

3. Carefully turn the recorder over again and remove the top panel. Be cautious of the wiring to the front panel button and USB port that runs along the top panel. Rest the top panel beside the bottom panel.

4. Remove the power and SATA cables from the hard drive.

5. Carefully pick up the hard drive to lift the bottom panel. Remove the 4 hard drive screws from the bottom panel while holding the hard drive in place.

6. If not installing a new drive immediately, replace the top panel and the 6 bottom panel screws.

To install a new hard drive in your LOREX N862A64B, ensure the system is OFF and the power adapter is disconnected.

1. Insert the 2 hard drive screws closest to the SATA and power ports on the new hard drive and tighten them halfway.

2. If the recorder is assembled, power it off, unplug it, and remove the 6 bottom panel screws.

3. Carefully remove the top panel, being mindful of the wiring connected to it.

4. Line the 2 half-inserted hard drive screws with the 2 corresponding holes in the bottom panel.

5. Slide the hard drive into the locked position, then tighten the screws completely. Insert and tighten the 2 remaining hard drive screws.

6. Connect the power and SATA cables to the new hard drive.

7. Replace the top panel and secure it with the 6 bottom panel screws.

After installation, you must format the new hard drive before it can be used for recording.
