To minimize power consumption with your LG APNH48GTLA0 air conditioner, you can follow these tips:

• Do not cool excessively indoors. This may be harmful to your health and may consume more electricity.

• Block sunlight with blinds or curtains while you are operating the air conditioner.

• Keep doors or windows closed tightly while you are operating the air conditioner.

• Adjust the direction of the air flow vertically or horizontally to circulate indoor air.

• Speed up the fan to cool or warm indoor air quickly, in a short period of time.

• Open windows regularly for ventilation as the indoor air quality may deteriorate if the air conditioner is used for many hours.

• Clean the air filter once every 2 weeks. Dust and impurities collected in the air filter may block the air flow or weaken the cooling / dehumidifying functions.

Always comply with the following precautions to avoid dangerous situations. Ignoring these warnings can result in serious injury or death.

General Safety

• Installation or repairs made by unqualified persons can result in hazards to you and others.

• The information contained in the manual is intended for use by a qualified service technician familiar with safety procedures and equipped with the proper tools and test instruments.

• Failure to carefully read and follow all instructions in this manual can result in equipment malfunction, property damage, personal injury and/or death.

Installation

• Do not use a defective or underrated circuit breaker. Use this appliance on a dedicated circuit to avoid risk of fire or electric shock.

• For electrical work, contact the dealer, seller, a qualified electrician, or an Authorized Service Center. Do not disassemble or repair the product yourself.

• Always ground the product.

• Install the panel and the cover of the control box securely.

• Always install a dedicated circuit and breaker.

• Use the correctly rated breaker or fuse.

• Do not modify or extend the power cable.

• Do not install, remove, or re-install the unit by yourself (customer).

• Be cautious when unpacking and installing the product. Sharp edges could cause injury.

• Always contact the dealer or an Authorized Service Center for installation.

• Do not install the product on a defective installation stand.

• Be sure the installation area does not deteriorate with age. If the base collapses, the air conditioner could fall with it.

Operation

• Do not let the air conditioner run for a long time when the humidity is very high and a door or a window is left open.

• Take care to ensure that the power cable could not be pulled out or damaged during operation.

• Do not place anything on the power cable.

• Do not plug or unplug the power supply plug during operation.

• Do not touch or operate the product with wet hands.

• Do not place a heater or other appliances near the power cable.

• Do not allow water to run into electric parts.

• Do not store or use flammable gas or combustibles near the product.

• Do not use the product in a tightly closed space for a long time, as oxygen deficiency could occur.

• When flammable gas leaks, turn off the gas and open a window for ventilation before turning the product on. Do not use the telephone or turn switches on or off.

• If you notice strange sounds, smell, or smoke, turn the breaker off or disconnect the power supply cable.

• Stop operation and close the window in a storm or hurricane.

• Do not open the inlet grill of the product during operation.

• If the product is soaked (flooded or submerged), contact an Authorized Service Center.

• Ventilate the product from time to time when operating it together with a stove, etc.

• Turn the main power off when cleaning or maintaining the product.

• When the product is not to be used for a long time, disconnect the power supply plug or turn off the breaker.

• Take care to ensure that nobody should step on or fall onto the outdoor unit.

Ignoring these cautions can result in minor injury or product damage. Please adhere to the following guidelines.

Installation

• Always check for gas (refrigerant) leakage after installation or repair. Low refrigerant levels may cause product failure.

• Install the drain hose properly to ensure water is drained away correctly.

• Keep the product level even when installing it to avoid vibration or water leakage.

• Do not install the product where noise or hot air from the outdoor unit could damage the neighborhoods.

• Use two or more people to lift and transport the product to avoid personal injury.

• Do not install the product where it will be exposed to sea wind (salt spray) directly, as this may cause corrosion.

Operation

• Do not expose your skin directly to cool air for long periods. (Don’t sit in the draft.)

• Do not use the product for special purposes, such as preserving foods, works of art, etc. It is a consumer air conditioner, not a precision refrigeration system.

• Do not block the inlet or outlet of air flow, as it may cause product failure.

• Use a soft cloth to clean. Do not use harsh detergents, solvents, etc.

• Do not touch the metal parts of the product when removing the air filter, as they are very sharp.

• Do not step on or put anything on the outdoor units.

• Always insert the filter securely. Clean the filter every two weeks or more often if necessary.

• Do not insert hands or other objects through the air inlet or outlet while the product is in operation.

• Do not drink the water drained from the product as it is not sanitary.

• Use a firm stool or ladder when cleaning or maintaining the product.

• Replace all batteries in the remote control with new ones of the same type. Do not mix old and new batteries.

• Do not recharge or disassemble batteries. Do not dispose of batteries in a fire.

• If liquid from the batteries gets on your skin or clothes, wash it well with clean water. Do not use the remote if the batteries have leaked.

• If you ingest liquid from the batteries, brush your teeth and see a doctor.

Preparing for operation

• Contact an installation specialist for installation.

• Use a dedicated circuit.

Usage Guidelines

• Being exposed to direct airflow for an extended period of time could be hazardous to your health. Do not expose occupants, pets, or plants to direct airflow for an extended period of time.

• Due to the possibility of oxygen deficiency, ventilate the room when used together with stoves or other heating devices.

• Do not use this air conditioner for non-specified special purposes (e.g. preserving precision devices, food, pets, plants, and art objects). Such usage could damage the items.

Cleaning and Maintenance

• Do not touch the metal parts of the unit when removing the filter. Injuries can occur when handling sharp metal edges.

• Do not use water to clean inside the air conditioner. Exposure to water can destroy the insulation, leading to possible electric shock.

• When cleaning the unit, first make sure that the power and breaker are turned off. The fan rotates at a very high speed during operation. There is a possibility of injury if the unit’s power is accidentally triggered on while cleaning inner parts of the unit.

How to mount onto a wall

1. Use the screws to secure the holder to the wall or attach the holder side of the indoor unit.

2. Insert the remote control into the holder.

How to insert batteries

1. Remove the cover from the back of the remote controller by sliding it in the direction of the arrow.

2. Insert two AAA batteries. Be sure that the (+) and (-) directions are correct and that both batteries are new.

3. Re-attach the cover by sliding it back into position.

Battery Information

• Do not use rechargeable batteries; they differ from standard dry cells in shape, dimensions, and performance.

• Change the batteries with new ones if the remote control does not work properly after an extended period of use.

• When not using the remote controller for a long time, remove all dry cells to prevent liquid leakage.

• When replacing dry cells (AAA), replace both with new ones. If the remote controller still doesn’t operate properly, request service.

• Do not disassemble, recharge, or dispose of used dry cells in a fire or near heat, as this could cause an explosion.

*Depending on the model, the functions applied may vary.

1. Turn on the air conditioner by pressing the Power button on the remote control.

2. Select the desired operation mode by pressing the Mode button repeatedly. The mode changes in the order of cooling, auto, dehumidification, heating, and air blowing. (Note: In Cooling Only models, the heating function does not work.)

Note on 3 minutes delay function: When you turn the unit on after a cooling cycle, cold wind will not come out immediately. This is a function to protect the compressor. Cold wind will start after about 3 minutes when the compressor operates.

Auto Dry Function

This function automatically dries the evaporator in the indoor unit to prevent moisture buildup.

• To Set: With the indoor unit, press the Start/Stop button and MODE button simultaneously for 3 seconds. The indoor unit will beep once and display “SC”. For a Cooling Only model remote, press the relevant button.

• To Release: Press the same button combination again. The unit will beep twice, and the function will be removed.

• When the function is active and you turn off the unit, it will count from 00 to 99 on its display panel as it dries, then turn off automatically.

Airflow Setting

• Up/Down Airflow: Press the Power button to turn the unit on. Press the Up/Down Swing button; the louvers will swing up and down. Press it again to set the horizontal louver at the desired direction.

• Left/Right Airflow: Press the Power button to turn the unit on. Press the Left/Right Swing button; the louvers will swing left and right. Press it again to set the vertical louver at the desired direction.

Power cooling, power heating operation

This provides rapid cooling or heating.

1. With the unit in cooling or heating mode, press the Power Mode button. The respective power operation will activate.

2. Press the Power Mode button again to turn the function off.

Adjusting the air speed

1. Turn on the air conditioner.

2. Press the FAN SPD button repeatedly to select the fan speed in four steps: low, mid, high, super high.

Timer Functions (Type 1 remote)

• Setting the Current Time: Press the Time On button for 3 seconds. Use the up/down arrow buttons to set the current time, then press SET/CLEAR.

• Setting the On Timer: Press the ON button to turn the timer on/off. Use the up/down arrow buttons to set the desired time, then press SET/CLEAR.

• Setting the Off Timer: Press the OFF button to turn the timer on/off. Use the up/down arrow buttons to set the desired time, then press SET/CLEAR.

• Canceling All Timers: Press the CANCEL button.

Defrost Mode

During heating operation, if the outside temperature is low and humidity is high, frost can form on the outdoor unit, reducing heating capability. The defrost operation will remove this frost.

• During defrost operation, a specific icon will be indicated on the indoor unit’s display.

• Indoor and outdoor unit fans will stop. After defrost is complete, the unit will automatically start preheating for the heating cycle.

• Vapor may be generated at the outdoor side during this operation; this is normal.

Child Lock Operation Function

This function locks the display panel on the indoor unit.

1. Press the fan speed button and the high temperature setting button on the indoor unit simultaneously for seconds to activate.

2. When active, the display will show “CL” if any button on the display panel is pressed. All buttons on the indoor unit display panel will not work. Buttons on the remote controller will still operate.

3. To deactivate, press the same button combination again for 3 seconds. The unit will beep, and the child lock will be removed.

Auto Re-Operation Function

If power is interrupted, this function allows the unit to restart with its previous settings once power is restored.

• To Release: Press the on/off, fan speed, high temp, and low temp buttons (4 buttons) on the indoor unit simultaneously for 3 seconds. The unit will beep, and the function will be removed.

• To Set: After releasing, press the same four buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. The unit will beep, and the function will be set.

This function is set as standard in the initial state.

Cooling Mode

1. Press the Power button to turn on the indoor unit.

2. Press the Cooling button (snowflake icon) to select Cooling operation mode.

3. Adjust the temperature using the Up/Down arrow buttons. The setting range is 18°C to 30°C. For cooling to work, the set temperature must be lower than the room temperature.

Heating Mode

1. Press the Power button to turn on the indoor unit.

2. Press the Heating button (sun icon) to select Heating operation mode.

3. Adjust the temperature using the Up/Down arrow buttons. The setting range is 16°C to 30°C. For heating to work, the set temperature must be higher than the room temperature.

Dehumidification Mode

1. Press the Power button to turn on the indoor unit.

2. Press the Dehumidification button (water drop icon).

3. Adjust the desired temperature level with the Up/Down arrows. When room temperature is higher than desired, cooling will operate; when lower, heating will operate.

Fan Mode

1. Press the Power button to turn on the indoor unit.

2. Press the Fan Mode button to circulate indoor air. The outdoor fan and compressor will not operate.

Auto Operation Mode

1. Press the Power button to turn on the indoor unit.

2. Press the Auto Operation button (AI icon). The unit will automatically perform cooling or heating based on the set temperature and room temperature.

Power Cooling/Heating Mode

1. Press the Power button to turn on the indoor unit.

2. Press the Power Cooling/Heating Mode button. In power cooling, the temperature is set to 18°C. In power heating, it’s set to 30°C.

Simple Reservation (Timer)

• Turning ON reservation: When the unit is off, press the ON timer button to set a turn-on time up to 24 hours in advance.

• Turning OFF reservation: When the unit is on, press the OFF timer button to set a turn-off time up to 7 hours in advance.

Grille, Case and Remote Control

• Turn the system off before cleaning. Supply power must be disconnected.

• To clean, wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use bleach or abrasives.

Air Filters

Clean the air filters behind the front grille once every 2 weeks, or more often if necessary.

1. Remove the Air filters: Take hold of the tab and pull slightly forward to remove the filter. CAUTION: When the air filter is to be removed, do not touch the metal parts of the indoor unit. It may cause an injury.

2. Clean the filter: Clean dirt from the air filter using a vacuum cleaner or by washing with water.

• If dirt is conspicuous, wash with a neutral detergent in lukewarm water.

• Never use water hotter than 40 °C, as it could cause deformation or discoloration.

• Do not use volatile substances like benzene, as they could damage the surfaces of the air conditioner.

• If hot water (50 °C or more) is used, it may be deformed.

3. Dry the filter: After washing with water, dry well in the shade. Do not expose the air filter to direct sunlight or heat from a fire when drying it.

4. Install the air filter: Re-install the filter.

When the air conditioner is not going to be used for a long time:

1. Operate the air conditioner in Fan operation mode for 2 to 3 hours. This will dry out the internal mechanisms.

2. Turn off the breaker. CAUTION: Dirt may collect and may cause a fire if the breaker is left on.

When the air conditioner is to be used again:

1. Clean the air filter and install it in the indoor unit.

2. Check that the air inlet and outlet of the indoor/outdoor unit are not blocked.

3. Check that the ground wire is connected correctly. It may be connected to the indoor unit side.

First, check the following:

• Have you made a mistake in the timer operation?

• Has the fuse blown or has the circuit breaker been tripped?

Check that this is not a damp smell exuded by the walls, carpet, furniture or cloth items in the room.

Condensation occurs when the airflow from the air conditioner cools the warm room air. This is normal.

This is due to the protector of the mechanism. Wait about three minutes and operation will begin.

• Is the air filter dirty? See air filter cleaning instructions.

• The room may have been very hot when the air conditioner was first turned on. Allow time for it to cool down.

• Has the temperature been set incorrectly?

• Are the indoor unit’s air inlet or outlet vents obstructed?

• For a noise that sounds like water flowing: This is the sound of freon flowing inside the air conditioner unit.

• For a noise that sounds like compressed air releasing into atmosphere: This is the sound of the dehumidifying water being processed inside the air conditioning unit.

This sound is generated by the expansion/constriction of the front panel, etc. due to changes of temperature.

• Are the batteries depleted?

• Are the batteries inserted in the opposite (+) and (-) directions?

This product has been applied with an over-current protection circuit. An error can occur after lightning, but this is normal behavior. After a few minutes, it will operate normally.

Call for service immediately in the following situations:

1. Anything abnormal such as a burning smell, loud noise, etc. happens. Stop the unit and turn the breaker off. Never try to repair it yourself or restart the system in such cases.

2. The main power cord is too hot or damaged.

3. An error code is generated by self-diagnosis.

4. Water leaks from the indoor unit even if the humidity is low.

5. Any switch, breaker (safety, earth) or fuse fails to work properly.
