Which network wiring standard should I use, T568A or T568B?
There are two network wiring standards used for CAT 6 in the UK and Ireland: T568A and T568B.
If you are adding your patch panel to an existing network, before wiring it, please check how the pins are wired to work out the wiring standard used and wire to the same standard.
If you are wiring a new network, it is recommended you use T568B, which is most commonly used.
What tools are required to wire the patch panel?
To prepare cables and make secure connections you will need the following tools:
• Cable Cutter
• Cable Stripper
• Punch Down Tool (Krone or 110 type)
How do I prepare the network cables for termination?
1. Strip about 38mm of the outer cable jacket, trim back any plastic insulation and rip cord, and separate the 4 twisted pairs.
2. Untwist each wire pair by about 12mm, keeping the remaining twists as tight as possible.
What is the wiring guide for the T568A and T568B standards on this patch panel?
The patch panel terminals are color-coded for both standards. Match the wire pairs to the corresponding pins as follows:
T568A Wiring
• PAIR 4 (Green/White-Green) to Pins 3 & 6
• PAIR 2 (Blue/White-Blue) to Pins 4 & 5
• PAIR 1 (Orange/White-Orange) to Pins 1 & 2
• PAIR 3 (Brown/White-Brown) to Pins 7 & 8
T568B Wiring
• PAIR 1 (Orange/White-Orange) to Pins 1 & 2
• PAIR 2 (Blue/White-Blue) to Pins 4 & 5
• PAIR 4 (Green/White-Green) to Pins 3 & 6
• PAIR 3 (Brown/White-Brown) to Pins 7 & 8
How do I terminate the wires onto the patch panel?
1. Slot the cable pairs into the IDC terminals according to the color code for the standard you are using (T568A or T568B).
2. Use a Krone or 110 punch down tool to terminate the wires and trim them. Make sure the CUT side of the tool is positioned facing the outside of the patch panel module.
3. Wire all the other 23 or 47 cables to the remaining terminals.
How should this product be disposed of?
Waste electrical and electronic products should not be disposed of with household waste. Please recycle where facilities exist. Check with your local authority for recycling advice.
