The KENWOOD RXD-355 comes with the following accessories:

• FM Antenna (1)

• AM Loop Antenna (1)

• Remote Control (1)

• “AA” size battery (UM/SUM-3, R6, HP-7 or similar) (2)

• AC Plug Adaptor (1) – Used to adapt the power cord plug to the shape of the wall outlet (Accessory only for regions where use is necessary).

Follow these notes when disassembling and reassembling the KENWOOD RXD-355 to keep it safe and ensure excellent performance:

1. Take the cassette tape and compact disc out of the unit.

2. Be sure to remove the power supply plug from the wall outlet before starting to disassemble the unit.

3. Take off nylon bands or wire holders where they need to be removed when disassembling the unit. After servicing the unit, be sure to rearrange the leads where they were before disassembling.

4. Take sufficient care regarding static electricity of integrated circuits and other circuits when servicing.

Note 1: How to open the changer manually.

1. In this state, turn fully the lock lever in the arrow direction through the hole on the loading chassis bottom.

2. While holding the lock lever, rotate the cam gear anticlockwise until the cam gear rib engages with the clamp lever.

3. After that, push forward the CD slide holder.

Note 2:

1. After removing the connector for the optical pickup from the connector, wrap the conductive aluminium foil around the front end of the connector so as to protect the optical pickup from electrostatic damage.

Note 3:

1. Be careful not to break the claw of the CD mechanism.

2. When fixing back the cam gear assembly, let it lock by front movement.

To remove the record/playback and erase heads for TAPE 2, first perform steps 1 to 7 and 9 of the main disassembly method to remove the tape mechanism. Then, follow this step:

1. When you remove the screw (A1) x 2 pcs., the recording/playback head and three-dimensional head of the erasing head can be removed.

To remove the playback head for TAPE 1, first perform steps 1 to 7 and 9 of the main disassembly method to remove the tape mechanism. Then, follow this step:

1. When you remove the screw (B1) x 2 pcs., the playback head can be removed.

To remove the pinch roller for TAPE 1 or TAPE 2, first remove the tape mechanism. Then, follow this step:

1. Carefully push the inside claw to remove it. The pinch roller pawl in the direction of the arrow <A>, and remove the pinch roller (C1) upwards.

Note: When installing the pinch roller, pay attention to the spring mounting position.

To remove the belt (TAPE 1):

1. Remove the main belt (D1) x 1 pc., from the motor side.

2. Remove the FF/REW belt (D2) x 1 pc.

To remove the belt (TAPE 2):

1. Remove the main belt (E1) x 1 pc., from the motor side.

2. Remove the FF/REW belt (E2) x 1 pc.

To remove the tape deck motor, remove the screws (F1) x 2 pcs.

To remove the loading motor, first perform steps 1, 2, 3, 11, and 14 of the disassembly method to remove the CD mechanism. Then, bend the hooks (A1) x 5 pcs., to remove the loading motor.

To remove the optical pickup, first remove the CD mechanism. Then, follow these steps:

1. Remove the stop washer (B1) x 1 pc., to remove the gear (B2).

2. Remove the screws (B3) x 2 pcs., to remove the shaft (B4).

3. Remove the pickup.

Note: After removing the connector for the optical pickup from the connector wrap the conductive aluminium foil around the front end of connector so as to protect the optical pickup from electrostatic damage.

During POWER OFF mode, push the following key combinations and then the [POWER] key to enter each TEST MODE.

To cancel the Test Mode, turn the power off.

After entering the CD Test Mode, you can perform the following operations:

• The OPEN/CLOSE operation is manual.

• The << I<<, >>I >>, <<, >> buttons allow you to slide the pickup.

• Pressing the << PLAY >> key: The unit will perform a TOC IL (Table of Contents Initial Load) and then normal play. You can use the remote controller’s <<DISC 1>> (Track 4), <<DISC 2>> (Track 9), and <<DISC 3>> (Track 15) keys to directly appoint a track number.

• Pressing the << MEMORY >> key sequence:

1. Press << MEMORY >>: Laser turns ON.

2. Press << MEMORY >> again: Tracking OFF play begins at that specific point.

3. Press << MEMORY >> again: Tracking ON play begins from that specific point.

4. Press << MEMORY >> again: The adjustment result will automatically display for 2 seconds each: “FOFF_XX”, “TOFF_XX”, “TBAL_XX”, “TGAN_XX”, “FGAN_XX”, “RFLS_XX” (where XX is a Hex value).

• Pressing the << STOP >> key: This stops the current operation. Note that sliding the pickup with the arrow keys must only be done in STOP mode.

To perform a software reset (ALL CLEAR), enter the corresponding test mode. The system will perform the following actions:

• All function conditions will be initialized.

• The unit will jump to A operation in case of power ON.

• After displaying “CLEAR_AL”, the power will turn off.

• Forwarding condition is set for the CD changer.

• Forwarding condition is set for the TAPE mecha.

To initialize the CD changer (PRODUCTION INITIALIZE), enter the corresponding test mode. The SET will be set to “shipping” condition, which performs the following:

• All function conditions are initialized.

• CLEAR ALL TUNER PRESET MEMORY.

• CLOCK INITIAL.

• CLEAR CD MEMORY.

• Initialize the CD changer mecha and compact cassette mecha.

• For CD changer mecha, set the CD mecha in upward condition.

When initializing, the display will show “WAIT” and will not accept any changes in input. After the “shipping condition” setting is ended, “FINISHED” is displayed and any key input will be prohibited. If there are any troubles and “shipping condition” cannot be set, “ERR” will be displayed.

Use a signal generator (400HZ, 30%, AM modulated) to perform the following adjustments.

* 1. Input Antenna: Output TP302

* 2. Input Antenna: Output TP301

Notes:

1. Description of the “FM IF Adjustment” is not carried on this manual. It is because the IF coil in the FM front end section has been best adjusted in the factory so that its further adjustment is not needed at the field. When replacing the FM front end assembly, no adjustment is needed either.

2. The parts in the FM front end section are prepared in a complete unit, so you can’t obtain each part individually.
